I was desperately looking for a place to eat near Jefferson Davis County on a Sunday evening and found Atami. This place was pretty darn good! I ordered the tempura shrimp and crab sushi rolls. They were both really delicious and shocked me full! For my entree I had the large chicken hibachi which comes with veggies. I was surprised at how tasty all of the food was! We stopped in at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon. We were the only customers at the time. Our order was taken by a quiet young man, but he was polite. We ordered the Asian Combo hibachi plate and the Scallops hibachi plate. Both came with fried rice, veggies and a side salad with ginger dressing. The scallops were just a little overcooked, but had a fantastic flavor. The shrimp, chicken and steak on the combo plate were equally as tasty. The veggies (zucchini, cabbage, carrots and onion) were great. The fried rice was different than I had ever had. At first I had my doubts as there were no veggies in it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It had a delicate flavor and perfect texture that really complemented the meals. In fact, we ordered extra rice to take home to add some veggies and shrimp to make our own version. It was THAT GOOD! The ginger salad dressing is house made and did not disappoint. Don't pass this place up. Again, it is different than most hibachi restaurants, but different in a good way. We will be back when we are in the Magee area. read more

Service was much to be desired, very rude staff. The food was mediocre. The dining area needs to be updated and cleaned.

Establishment has good parking.. No steamed rice.... only fried. Goyza was ok... I ordered Coconut Shrimp and although there was plenty battered shrimp, there was no coconut on the shrimp or in the sauce. Not a bad option if you are flying down US49. Not the best sushi I've ever had but certainly not the worst. This is a very fast food experience as it is counter service with no frills. They were short staffed so it took a bit of time to get my order but not so long I wouldn't go back. If you are looking for something outside of the run-of-the-mill fast food chains then give this one a try. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when my car broke down in Magee, Mississippi and found Atami Japanese Express. It looked just like a Japanese fast food in Osaka, Japan. I got there 10 minutes before closing. I ordered Orange chicken, California rolls, cheese Wontons, and Sushi combo #7. Everything was fresh and delicious. The sushi was really good. Fantastic food you would not expect at first glance of restaurant. The restaurant is tucked away and almost missed. Once you taste the fried rice with various meat combination plates you're hooked. Absolutely delicious. I can't believe this place exists in Magee, Mississippi. If you are headed north toward Jackson on 49, it is on your left hand side in an orange building after the Walmart. The HWY 49 speciality roll was so flavorful. We also got the Philly roll and vegetable roll, and they were very good as well. The spicy mayo and yum yum sauce were very tasty for dipping. Good food for the price. Sushi was very good. Hibachi food had a sweeter taste, not necessarily my preference, but it wasn't bad.

I love the shrimp and scallop hibachi. The chicken and steak(tender)is good as well. The only thing I didn't like was that they don't give a lot of veggies. That's it. Great food. read more

Good food fast. We tried the edamame appetizer (excellent), crispy shrimp sushi (very good), along with the beef yakisoba and veggie habachi (both good). We even got a couple free eggrolls! I do wish they served on regular plates instead of styrofoam take out containers for dining in, but otherwise a thumbs up. Good choice if you are passing through. read more

Service was quick, but just shy of rude. Egg drop soup was gelatinous and lacking flavor. Steamed gyoza Were just ok. Rainbow roll was fairly good. Should have known when I saw Express over the door, but it still surprised me when all my food came out at once in to-do containers on a tray. read more

As small as this place is, they don't cut corners on their food or service. If you order takeout, it WILL be done in five minutes, so make sure to order on your way there. What really surprised me was the variety and quality of their sushi menu. Any of their sushi, from the small California roll to the large and beautifully sculpted Dancing Eel roll is worth getting. They offer raw sushi rolls (I recommend the Pacific and Rainbow rolls) as well as cooked meat (the Dancing Eel and Crunchy Shrimp are some of my favorites). Their Hibachi plates are excellent for takeout, consisting of steak, chicken, salmon, scallops, or shrimp (or a combination of two of these) as well as hibachi cooked vegetables and rice. If you have to be thrifty, you can get their Yakimeshi plates which are like the Hibachi, but with less meat and no vegetables for about 6 - 8 dollars. The also offer standard Asian staples such as egg drop and miso soup. Interestingly enough, they also offer what they call "Japanese Sprite", a variety of several flavors of imported Japanese soft drinks. What they do right: Pretty much everything. Prices are fair. Quick service, great variety of sushi and meats. Everything tastes great and the service is friendly. What they could change/do better: They really need to add to their beverage selection (they have water, Dr. Pepper, Hi-C, Mello Yellow, Sprite, Diet Coke, and Coca Cola), but that is only really an issue if you are dining in. Summary: I've been to quite a few Asian restaurants, but this one really catches my attention as paying close attention to quality. I highly recommend Atami. read more
