I have moved overseas and had changed my account over to a pre-paid. Little did I know, that if inactive for more than 1 year, At&T just cancels your account--and the charged, pre-paid money just disappears! *POOF* So having lost my number that I had for the last 15 years, I went in to this AT&T store out of desperation. I was in the States for a 3 week long trip. The staff seemed super friendly and I thought the service was great.
As I was in the works of creating my new pre-paid account (telling myself I would follow up with it every 6 months or so), the staff told me that if I was in the States for 3 weeks or so, it probably would make more sense to go with the unlimited plan. And that after my trip was over, I would be able to EASILY change my plan to a pre-paid plan or even switch to a 6 months suspension. All online. Easy-peasy.
So here I am, 4 weeks later, trying to log on and to change my account to a pre-paid. Uh.... no. NOT EASY AT ALL. I searched high and low. All I see is the option to change to a $70 or $60 plan.
As I am writing this, I have been 'chatting' online with reps from two separate departments for over an hour to switch over to a pre-paid account (chat. because I did not want to spend $$ on being on an international call for who knows how long).
Seriously, I feel like I've been scammed into signing up for unlimited so they could up their sales or something. But then, I guess after AT&T took my money from the pre-paid account, I should have known better, and have gone with a different carrier. So if you're going into this store for just daily routine stuff, I guess you'll get a friendly service. But just make sure you either know your stuff, and don't take their word for it. Do your research yourself.
PS: Another hour later. I am still on chat AND phone. Trying to figure this situation out. In order to get a pre-paid online account activated, you need to get a text on your phone. My phone, since being overseas, is not receiving any texts from the States. So now I am on the phone waiting for the pre-paid department rep to pick up. All could have been avoided had I not listened to the employee at the store and had just went with the pre-paid plan as I had initially planned. read more
