Offering the best asian food available in my area and during normal times offers a cozy atmosphere and is byob.

I'm a very picky sushi-ologist and eat sushi frequently. Been just about everywhere in the philly area and feel I know my craft. I know my own way around a yanagiba. That said...my review: Good fish. Nice and fresh and properly cut. The tuna was a little cold for my taste and the temp and texture makes me wonder if it was 100% fresh or iced. The rest of the fish was warm and tasted fresher. Salad dressing for the standard house salad was a nice surprise in that it had some texture and more interesting flavor than the standard dressing at just about every other Japanese place. This was my first time here and all I had was the sushi/sashimi lunch special so I'm a little limited in what I can review but it was good enough that I'll be back to try other menu items. Only complaint if I were to make one would be that while properly seasoned the rice was slightly undercooked. A little too al dente. Very well priced though and I'll be back. read more

Sushi was on point especially for a Chinese Japanese hybrid, has your basic dishes like salmon, tuna, white tuna...nothing out of the blue. Construction of the rolls were great, finely put. Got the combination of sashimi and sushi. Located in a strip mall, insides not big but looks clean. I'd come back again if I were in the area. read more

We get sushi and Chinese food here all the time and it's always delicious. Check out their dinner specials for takeout only, great deals, and you're getting a lot of food. The sushi is some of the best in the area. Service is very friendly and welcoming, even if you're just getting take out (which is what we normally do). We've seen the staff on a first name basis with a lot of customers coming in and out which is always a good sign. Next time you're in the mood for Chinese or sushi, get it from here! Wow, what a nice surprise. We were going to the movies at Edgemont and looked up a nearby Chinese restaurant. Asuka came to the top of the list and after reading reviews I made a reservation for Saturday night. We were late in arrival for our reservation and perhaps that's why we got seated in front of the swinging kitchen doors. This was our first time here and we didn't know what to expect. Well everything was delicious. And came out super promptly. The family style wonton soup was filled with wonton, shrimp, pork slices, brocolli, etc. The ingredients were all super fresh, though I wish there was a tiny bit more seasoning in the soup stock. This is the best scallion pancake I've ever had. Truly. It was light and crunchy. The Asuka special came with a half lobster tail, shrimp, beef, pork, etc, etc and it really was a hefty serving of meat. We were surprised. The moo shu pork was equally delicious and came with pork strips scattered over the vegetables. I'm looking forward to going back. But will specify next time a table in the front. read more

Mind blown! Really. The service and the food here were top notch. I have never experienced a more polite staff anywhere. As other reviewers stated, they know their customers by name. I saw several customers come in for take out as I was dining and they knew them all! They really make you feel so comfortable while dining there. I felt like I belonged. Like I was family. I had 2 different rolls. both were delicious but the Asuka roll was amazing! I am someone who spends lots of money looking for quality sushi. This place is now officially on the top of my list. I had the Tempura Banana for desert. Oh my! Gently fried banana with honey, cocoa powder and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The banana melted in my mouth. So good! You would never really think that going to a sushi place in a strip mall would be something memorable. This is my new favorite. We made it out to Asuka in West Chester FINALLY. We'd been meaning to go for the past few months since it opened. It's located in a strip mall/shopping center so it's not much to behold from the outside, but inside, it's quite cute! We actually went in to order take out and left after paying, intending to pick it up in a bit and then decided to go back in and make a night out of it and eat there. Not a bad choice actually. The service was pretty good; our waiter was really nice and seemed eager to please. The food we ordered was actually wonderful. I will admit, I wholeheartedly judge a place based upon their General Tso's chicken, so I was happy to find that theirs was crispy and tender and flavored perfectly. I got the pineapple chicken which came with peppers and snap peas and lots of pineapples in a sweet red sauce. It was just what I wanted, and I probably ate a bit too much of it (all of it?)... We also got a plate of beef fried rice to share, which was well done also. My qualms were only the tea, which I ordered for myself and came out in a giant pot of water with only one tea bag and also got lukewarm after just a few minutes. The pot was also hard to pour. Also, we ordered the banana tempura which was, first of all, AWESOME, but it came with ice cream, which we were all going to share, and come to find out, under all those banana pieces, there was only one scoop of ice cream! Only a severe lack of ice cream could cause me to write a sentence with all those clauses and commas. All in all, though, we had a great time at Asuka, and will definitely go back when we visit my boyfriend's mom in West Chester. If you're looking for great sushi and great service, it doesn't get much better than this.This place was phenomenal. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday last night (one of his favorite places and my first time). I called to make a reservation for 6pm and I'm glad I did because it was very busy, even for a Tuesday. On the call making the reservation I asked them if they did anything for birthdays. We didn't want singing or anything but just a dessert with a candle perhaps. They said they did do things for birthdays and asked what his name was. Arriving there I was unsure as to if I was going to get sushi or Chinese food. We decided on "Five Samurai Special" which is 5 of Asuka's specialty rolls with two miso soups or two ginger salads. I asked if we could get a wonton soup and a seaweed salad instead and they could up-charge me for it (which they never did). The soup and seaweed salad were both delicious and perfect starters for the monster boat of sushi which was about to take over our table. For the five rolls we ordered: Evergreen, Salmon Breeze, Geisha, Crouching Tiger and the Volcano. Our least favorite was the Geisha roll (had way too much cucumber in it) but the rest were AMAZING. Best sushi I've ever eaten! All of it was so fresh and the presentation was beautiful. Our favorite rolls were the Salmon Breeze and the Volcano. My personal favorite was the Crouching Tiger which had lemon slices on top of the roll. I thought this would taste weird but adding lemon was so tasty! After dinner was over our waiter took the (empty) boat and asked us how everything was. He came back a few minutes later with a dessert and candle for the birthday boy! I loved that I didn't need to ask them for a dessert menu or remind them that it was his birthday - they remembered on their own. After we finished this we received our bill, which had no up-charge for the soup and salad and no charge for the birthday dessert. I was shocked! On our way out a couple of the people eating wished my boyfriend a happy birthday and so did the woman at the front counter. We felt so welcomed from the second we walked in to the second we walked out. Thank you Asuka for making this birthday such a special night! Came here for lunch while in town visiting my family. I grew up in the Philly suburbs, and to be honest, finding a good Chinese or Japanese place in the area is usually difficult. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Asuka. Everything we had here was delicious. The Philly roll was fresh, the Hot and Sour soup was perfect and our lunch specials (Sweet & Sour Chicken and Garlic Chicken) were both fantastic and flavorful. (And more than enough to take home.) Oh and the staff was super friendly, too! Definitely give this place a chance if you are in the area. read more

Been going to Asuka ever since I moved in right down the street. Best Chinese I've ever had. The sushi is pretty awesome as well with tons of different styles of rolls. The staff is unbelievably courteous as well, always striking up a little conversation, asking how I've been, asking about my GF. It's no wonder they know us by name. The one fella, Gary, makes it a point to come over and shake our hands every time we drop by. While we've never dined in, the atmosphere is very nice when picking up takeout, and the desserts look amazing. One of these days we'll dine in. The only thing Asuka would need to destroy all competition is delivery. No other Chinese place in the area can hold a candle to Asuka. read more

The food here is outstanding. Top-notch sushi, and the Chinese menu is also very good. Delicious scallion pancakes. The downside is in the service. We waited for quite a long time, and our food was effectively thrown at us. The place was not particularly busy at the time. Our server was not happy that I asked for a knife. No greetings or pleasantries whatsoever, almost as if we were an inconvenience. But the food....we would say this would be the best for takeout. Don't bother with dine-in. read more

Modern interior? Check. Comfortable seating? Check. Cute Asian waitresses? Check. Awesome coconut shrimp? You bet. This place certainly took me by surprise. When my friend and I were looking for a place to eat on New Years day, we knew not many places would be open. There is one thing you can always depend on though, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. I'm used to the dated 70's carpets and pink fluorescent seating of most Chinese restaurants. It was nice to see an establishment like this have such a clean and updated feel. Atmosphere and music was great and our waitress was super nice and attentive. I started off with the coconut shrimp appetizer, a dish I can never seem to turn down once I see that it's offered. Delicious! As for the entree I played it safe and went with the sweet and sour chicken. Chicken was good, I just wish they cooked it well done like I asked for. There was also some pineapple chunks mixed in with the sauce which I wasn't too excited about, but everything seemed to compliment each other. This place was recommended to us by a friend who lives in the neighborhood my girlfriend just moved to. We decided to do takeout as we were tired from moving and wanted to chill out in the new place. The wonton soup was ok. Broth was very nice, noodles were ok. Egg Roll was tasty as was the spring roll. They gave us one container of homemade hot mustard which was great. Gave us packets when I asked for more which are ok. Pork fried rice was not bad - the portion was huge. The Hunan Triple Delight - chicken,shrimp and beef sautéed with mixed vegetables in a Hunan black bean sauce - was very good. Huge shrimp. White meat chicken. Typical beef. Not as spicy as we like so next time we'll increase the heat. The restaurant does a bang up business. As we waited for our order, people kept streaming in to get their takeouts. The menu is huge as they offer sushi, Japanese and Chinese food. It's not the best we have ever had but it's very good. I visited Asuka due to another Yelper's request, and was very glad I did! Tucked into a typical shopping center, Asuka surprised me with its ambiance. It's very cozy, but still retains a nice Japanese sushi-bar sort of feel. I like it. The booth back The sushi was decent. One of my favorites, the salmon skin hand roll, was absolutely huge...I'm not complaining! The only thing that slightly irked me was that their 2 for $8 "regular" rolls were not even on the dinner menu at all...not there. I thought they misprinted the menus at first, as the take home menu shows them. Just keep that in mind when considering eating dinner at Asuka! The waitstaff were friendly and thanked me for my business, which is appreciated. They also applied their Grand Opening discount (15% until Oct. 30) automatically, without me having to be awkward and throw a coupon at them. All in all, Asuka is a very good sushi place in the West Chester area. I will be returning, but would like to see them expand their dinner menu to include more regular rolls (even if they aren't 2 for $8). read more

I've been meaning to try Asuka for their sushi for some time now. I was highly impressed with their Chinese for takeout, and had heard good things about the sushi. My sisters and I took my Mom here for dinner on Friday, and we were very impressed! It's also BYO, so it's quite convenient there is wine and spirits location right in the same shopping center. Be sure to grab a bottle, or some sake! We started with the miso soup, which I've had before and is great, and then ordered about 2 rolls each, most of them being the signature rolls. My mom ordered the raging dragon roll. I was a bit skeptical, as it had apple in it, but honestly it was absolutely amazing! The flavors really complemented one another. My favorite was the Amazing Tuna roll. It was perfection! All of the rolls were wonderful, and the presentation was just great. I mentioned it was my mothers birthday and they even brought out a dessert which I believe was rice krispy treats rolled around ice cream, and drizzled with chocolate and whipped cream. It was so good! We did have the window seat, which was a bit drafty, and we did wait a bit for our sushi; but were in no rush, and really enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere of the place. It was very clean cut, but relaxing. It was certainly top notch, and next time I'm out for sushi will def be going here. read more

Asuka is a small Asian fusion BYOB nestled in a shopping center. The waitresses are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. As for the food, I can only speak for the sushi, which is good. The Volcano Roll and the Foxy Lady are my and my boyfriend's favorites. If you go, they offer two specialty rolls of your choice for $25. There is also a wine and spirits store a couple doors down. read more
