Far far far from what Japanese food should be. Miso soup doesn't even taste like miso soup. It is wonton soup with bit of tofu and seaweed. Also they offer sushi and sashimi with very basic fish. I picked up Sushi here last night for a girls night in. I had heard great things about Asuka from friends so I was pretty excited! I ordered a philly roll which is stuffed with avocado, smoked salmon, and cream cheese (Beginner sushi, if you will!) That was tasty - no complaints! I also ordered a signature dragon roll which is raw eel and cucumber topped with avocado, and roe. That was also delicious! Unfortunately I found a fish bone in the roll! No choking occurred, but imagine the unpleasant crunch I experienced! Obviously when eating a raw fish filet bones are bound to happen, but I would hope an experienced sushi chef would be extra wary of this - after all fish is their specialty! I will try Asuka again for Chinese (Especially to try their extensive gluten free menu!) but not sure I would try the sushi again! We frequently get the sushi from Asuka, and have always been pleased, however we got a variety of more Chinese take-out items today (Pan Fried Dumplings, Short Ribs, House Lo Mein, Shrimp Fried Rice, Chicken and Broccoli) and had to throw it all out it was so bad. The shrimp was soft and mealy, the vegetables were overcooked to the point that they were mush. The shrimp was so bad that we were concerned for other customers health so we did call Asuka to tell them, to their credit they did say that they would check the shrimp and gave us a $20 credit. read more

Tried this place out for the very first time with my husband tonight. Our waiter was friendly. I had the sweet coconut Maki roll and shrimp tempura Maki roll which I was able to get with brown rice. My experience at Asuka was pleasant. The setting was calm and relaxing. Service was attentive and sharp. The best part was the food which was appetizing to all of the senses I took my parents here for dinner and it was their first time in a Japanese restaurant. They noted that the interior was cozy, peaceful and romantic. Despite my parents not knowing much about Japanese cuisine, the serving staff was patient and explained the different menu items which was nice of them. Service was quick and the staff paid close attention to our table. There were times my water was refilled and I did not even notice! The food was surprising both aesthetically and taste wise. I have never seen food arranged so well. Dishes were garnished with detail and there were flavor combinations and textures that amazed me. Beauty and the Beast Roll: This has now become my favorite roll. It was a perfect balance of texture between the crispiness of the tempera shrimp inside the roll and eel and tuna laying on top of the roll. The flavor each each component represented the roll well and it did not require any extra soy sauce on the side. Asuka Roll: This roll is describes the restaurant well. It is new and delightfully unexpected. I ordered this roll simply because it had the restaurant's name on it. When it first came out, I was confused because it was wrapped in rice paper and instead of seaweed, there was lettuce. This was something that I had never experienced before. The ingredients actually played well with each other and the lettuce, rice paper, cucumber and avocado made this roll very refreshing. It was like eating a very delicious salad in a roll. Mango Chicken: This dish was something my parents ordered. The chicken was moist and flavorful from the sauce which was sweet and tangy from the mango. Many large chunks of mango were included in the sauce as well which was nice. There must have been at least half of a mango cut into the dish which I liked. Phoenix and Dragon: The above name is the fancy name for a combination of General Tso's Chicken and Fried Shrimp. I still cannot figure out which one is which with absolute certainty. The chicken was amazing. Many places make General Tso's Chicken with too much batter cooked incorrectly, leading to a soggy and heavy dish instead of crispy. Here, it was made to a perfect crispiness. It was crispy, light and flavorful but it was not soggy whatsoever. I actually took some home and several hours later, it was still somewhat crispy. The fried shrimp was good, but not as good as the chicken. The shrimp was peeled and I will assume deep fried in corn starch. It did not remain crispy long, but the flavor was good. My parents and I enjoyed this restaurant and we would definitely return here for food and the welcoming atmosphere. read more

Gluten-Free classic Chinese food at last! I have Celiac disease and absolutely love chinese food. Unfortunately, in most scenarios this means being stuck with P.F. Changs or other major-chains that only offer a few pricey gluten-free options and still end up getting sick half the time. Asuka has been a fantastic solution to this problem! I've eaten there roughly a dozen times in the past year and have never once gotten sick, despite trying just about every thing on their dedicated gluten-free menu. I personally love their pork fried rice, chicken-lettuce appetizers and their beef and broccoli. I've lived all over the country and tried just about every location I could for gluten-free chinese and Asuka is the absolute only one that has never made me sick. Additionally, I've taken many 'standard-dining' friends there with me and they loved both their sushi and traditional non-GF Chinese dishes. Additionally, the staff are all very knowledgeable and extremely friendly and responsive to all questions! If you have been looking for gluten-free Chinese, you know it's practically non-existent, but search no longer! Asuka is definitely the place to go. read more

Honest review, I'd have to give Asuka a 3 1/2 stars. Ordered the sashimi sampler and was not really impressed it looked fresh but I got a weird after taste. Although the sushi wasn't a hit for me the Chinese menu was great! Highly recommend the general tso chicken dinner combo, you won't be disappointed! A while ago we ordered--mine gluten free and another of the same "regular"--and the meals were unmarked. Asuka staff handled it really well and gave us a free meal to make up for the mix-up. Really happy to be a regular here, they have great service as well as food. read more

Ordered takeout for the first time here. I was excited to try another sushi place in West Chester. They have a pretty diverse menu. In summary, this place was just OK. While I am not "an expert" on sushi, I have been eating it for a long time and have made several trips to Japan, including dining at the retail shops along the outer the edge of the famous Tsuikji Fish Market in Tokyo. At Asuka, I ordered the Sushi combo, with 4 types of sushi, 2pc each. Quality of the sushi was just OK. The amount of fish used for each piece of sushi was a little disappointing. Also, the fish on some pieces the sushi was not fully dressed. The sushi pieces had inconsistent amounts of wasabi. For example the Yellowtail, One piece had no noticeable wasabi on it, while second was loaded. I had also upgraded to a Yellowtail roll. Again, disappointed by the amount of fish included in the roll. The Miso soup was good and had lots of greens and tofu. This was the best part of the meal. They also offer Chinese Food items on the menu. I will likely give it another try or two before I make my final determination. Probably will limit it to a lunch when the pricing is a little more friendly. To be clear, I am not trying to measure this place against those in Japan. I am comparing it the one of better local joints I know and frequent. I typically get sushi from a Restaurant right next to the Acme on Paoli Pike. They use more fish in the sushi and fish quality is always pretty top notch. read more

My husband throws the best parties and my surprise birthday party last weekend was no exception! All the food was from Asuka and everyone loved it all. He had all the guests tell him ahead what they wanted from the online menu, and most chose Japanese appetizers like sushi and sashimi and Chinese dishes for entrees. He sent Asuka the final list, grouped by couple. Asuka packed it all up in separate bags, identified for each couple by their names and what they ordered. They made it so easy for everyone to get exactly what they wanted. And at the end of the night we let everyone take home their own left-overs which was a bonus for the guests. We usually dine in at Asuka and enjoy their great food and friendly and efficient service and bringing our own drinks, but ordering out from there is always easy too. We totally agree with what other reviewers have said, the food is excellent, esp for people who are experienced and picky and appreciate that everything is authentic and so fresh. When we moved to this area 2 years ago we thought we'd miss our old Chinese take-out, but no worries, Asuka is so much better! Definitely our favorite! read more

This is the first day of reopening since being closed completely for a month out of caution about Covid-19. They were mobbed with orders, which speaks of how popular this restaurant is. I think, just like with grocery stores, curbside is a learning curve that may take a few days to figure out. They don't deserve a bad review for it. Before Covid-19, the restaurant may be small, but they somehow seat everyone. I always missed that it was there in the plaza, but the buzz about the place and the sushi had me curious. You can't beat the price of the food for the quality that you get. I love that my family can get all types of Asian dishes here, whether Japanese sushi or Chinese favorites. All the workers are friendly, and if there is a problem, they fix it without questions. Great customer service! The owners get to know regulars by name. read more
