!!! BE AWARE !!! Please be VERY CAREFUL in using this company's service as Frank Aragon has left our property in worse shape than when the project began. This is a review based on our experience with Frank and his company earlier this year. At first, Frank came across like he seem to know the 'lingo' of asphalt contracting. After vetting through other companies, we decided to go with Asphalt Paving Services but just as others mentioned here, Frank was very difficult to get in contact over the phone. It was after couple of voicemails and email exchanges later that we finally agreed on a contract and work began in late January. Unfortunately, we discovered (too late) that his promises were just words. Frank was incapable of fulfilling the project as contracted. Pictures speak louder than words and as you can see the poor work on the property sustained during this construction. The project was slated for 2 days with 1 day extra for 'drying' time. But the first day started with just Frank and another worker, then soon after Frank disappeared for hours, leaving one guy to do most of the work. We have a 50+ unit and scheduling all the resident parking to require many parts to coordinate - from LADOT, LAPD, and local council office - not to mention all the residents who had to park on the street. At the end of the 5th day, when it was clear that the parking lot was never going to be finished, Frank was asked to leave the property at around 10PM. On most nights, he kept working extremely late into the evening, even up until almost 11PM, even after we had asked him to stop working. We've asked numerous times for Frank to communicate with us about the timing of the project because we were scrambling to contact the LADOT, LAPD and the council's office for the extra days where we would have needed permit for the residents to park overnight. In short, this project became a nightmare for our management. Everything they did for this project of 20,000+ sq foot was done MANUALLY. There were no rollers on-site, his striper machine exploded and was not working, half the day trying to fix it. (SEE PHOTOS) When Frank over-purchased a mass quantity of asphalt on the second day, he failed to use it within the time when it was heated. It had hardened to the point where it was blocking the front part of our parking lot and Frank had two of the workers attempt to remove the mount manually for TWO DAYS! (SEE PHOTOS) After Frank's failed to complete our project and breach of contract in, we had to hire a different asphalt contractor on an URGENT Sunday call, to have the huge mound of the asphalt removed properly. To make matters worse, we found that he videotaped our property - without permission - to use as part of his advertising on Google. It seems Frank spent more time videotaping and talking about what to do rather than actually doing the work on-site. You have not - and were not be given - any permission to post our property for the use of your advertisement. It is illegal to post any images or videos of private properties online.] -----------------------------­--------------------­­­­-------- LOCATION: Asphalt Services is located in Van Nuys and covers other areas in Los Angeles. SERVICE: NOT RECOMMENDED. Difficult communication, multiple times his voicemail would max out, calls would not go through. Frank would leave the site and disappear for multiple hours at a time, leaving just one or two workers to cover a 20,000+ sq. ft parking lot. Frank would give us numerous excuses for why the project schedule is off, promises to pull through but failed to complete. PROS: Frank can sell ice to an Eskimo! CONS: Unfortunately the entire review describes that. PRICE: Price was reasonable and a factor in our decision to use his services. read more

I had used their services for a basic parking lot recoating and striping job and it worked out well. This time around I was contacting them to get an estimate for a regrading and striping job. After a missed appointment and a number of calls with them telling me they'd get back to me, they never did. Either they have too much work for their staff to handle or the work I'm asking to have done is beyond the scope of their abilities or qualifications? It doesn't matter. Do not use this company. Frank made lots of promises that were never fulfilled. They took weeks longer than he said they would. Did a poor job. Left a mess. Then, after numerous attempts to get things done and done right, he simply stopped showing up. Left me to spend more money fixing his mess. read more

Working with Frank was a fantastic experience! He was very responsive from quote to completion. When the job he was working on prior to arriving at my company's property ran long, he was quick with updates about when he would arrive. He even filled an extra pot hole for us for the delay. :) He supplied me with photos of the completed project and was professional throughout. Asphalt Paving Services was the third company I had called for repairs and the only company that followed up with the requested quote. I can't rate his quality of work, because just like several other reviews stated, he is extremely hard to get a hold of. Two missed appointments where he just didn't show up. It would take several attempts to get him to respond on Yelp. And then the company phone number goes to a voicemail and we never once got a call back. Very disappointed. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY !! Frank was hired to install speed humps and paint the speed humps, He was scheduled to start the job 8:00 am. I had to arrange my schedule to make sure I was there to meet him apon arrival. HE NEVER SHOWED UP ! he didn't call to let me know he wasn't going to make it or if he was running late neither did he pick up any of my calls and txt messages. He finally started the work a week later and he still arrived late. He only did work 1 day and did not let me know if he was going to come back and finish. I kept trying to reach him and it was clear that he had abandoned the job. He is extremely hard to reach. He makes promises that he is not going to fulfill. Finally a real pro! After months getting estimates from unreliable pavers, Frank showed up at the agreed upon time, made us a good estimate for our entire driveway (which extends into the backyard) and a couple weeks later we had a beautiful freshly repaved driveway instead of the cracked mess it had been for years. This company is unprofessional. We contacted them in February and spoke to Frank. Frank was supposed to provide us with an estimate. We sent him a work order and provided him personal information about our company. We tried to follow up with him via email and by telephone, but never received a response. The service was outstanding and prompt. I called Frank on Monday afternoon and came the same day to give us an estimate. He explained me to detail the scope of the job and answer all my questions. He was really honest and left no doubts in my mind on what to expect with this kind of project even if I ultimately decided to go with someone else. Frank is in high demand so make sure you are patient with him. He will get the job done and is very busy. But he will make sure he gets you the job done and he will do it for a very affordable price. He came to my house three times to fix my driveway and used his own car to make sure it wouldn't drag underneath the car anymore before he left. Working with Frank was a pleasure. He came to our home several times before starting the job. This was to study the flow of the water in front of our house, which basically created a huge pond where our driveway meets the street. As we are in an area where the city does not maintain the streets and there are no gutters, water actually flows uphill! Frank laid out the asphalt in a way to solve this years long problem. Our neighbors stopped by to get his business card as they saw the quality of his work and wanted to hire him on the spot. Frank's pricing beat all other quotes significantly, He sincerely cares about customer service and from reading other reviews prior to hiring him, you have to give a little extra effort to connect with him as he is busy. I wish i can leave no stars. First off, communication with this company is horrible. Originally we got in touch with Frank. He scheduled a job with us and they never showed up, never answered emails or calls, 2 hours later still nothing. We are subs on this project and lets just say they made us look horrible. I would 100% NOT recommend this company to anyone. They are unreliable. Frank has very poor communication and flaked on a huge project with is a serious problem as we have deadlines. Super flaky! I called to make an appointment to get my driveway fixed and frank said he was sending his guys over and they would work with in my budget. Guys never showed up! Said they got stuck at another job ok stuff happens. So I rebooked for a couple days later where he said his guys would definitely be there 8 am, again never showed! Then the guys says he will call me to explain and rebook and never does! And after that he simply stopped responding to my texts, what kind of company operates like this and treats there customers like this and stays in business?! We and our neighbor live on a "flag lot" which means there is a long driveway leading back to our two houses. The driveway suffered from deferred maintenance plus a lot of work was done on the neighbor's house before and right after she bought it so there was cracking, potholes, etc. Asphalt Paving Services provided a reasonably-priced bid and the owner, Frank Aragon, seemed experienced and knowledgeable about important topics such as drainage. We called some references, both commercial and residential, who said they were happy with the work and it seemed to be holding up well. We went ahead and set a date (a Monday). On the Sunday evening before our driveway was to be re-asphalted Frank called to say he could not get hot asphalt from "the plant" and we would have to reschedule. We did in fact have the work done the following day (Tuesday) and everything looked good. We were told not to drive on it for two days and we followed instructions but the weather was really hot so even a couple of weeks later we were still getting tire tracks and even a heel mark or two in it. We had been told we would need to slurry coat the driveway after one month. We scheduled a day (another Monday) but, again, the evening before the work was to be done Frank said he could not get the materials he needed. He evidently has a relationship with a single supplier and does not like to go elsewhere; also he doesn't seem to stockpile any materials. Eventually we did find a time when Frank's team could do the work, nearly two months after the asphalt. Frank provided a power-washing team to remove some messy, sticky tree pods before completing the slurry coat and the work looks really great a few weeks later. We do still have some of the tire and heel marks but they are not noticeable. My very picky husband is quite happy about the driveway and we will definitely call Asphalt Paving Services when it's time to have any maintenance done. To summarize, Asphalt Paving does very good work at an attractive price. Frank is a pleasure to work with. However, you may have to be flexible about timing; he and his team are busy seven days a week and are always juggling tasks they have promised to do. I would also suggest not scheduling anything for a Monday; this could be just a series of coincidences, but supply issues seem to happen more often over the weekend. read more

Frank and his team have been Great! They finished repaving my 85 feet driveway within just a day. The after-sales service is also excellent where they promptly came back another day to help me patched and smoothed out rough areas which they have missed the 1st time. They also went the extra mile to help me wield and secure the track of my back metal gate to the ground so that the new asphalt can sit nicely on it (all free of charge)! I have compared multiple quotes and theirs was one of the most reasonable. These guys are great. I called them on Friday afternoon and spoke with Frank. I needed to cover up a large area in which we cut the asphalt to install an electrical pipe (I am an electrical contractor) at a customer's location. Frank gave me a very reasonable price and said that he will come out on Monday at noon. (Very next business day) When my guy came out to meet with his crew, the job was already done. They did a great job and they even got it done early! They cleaned up after themselves and left the place nice and clean. We will definitely use these guys services for future asphalt projects. Contacted them via Yelp to get an estimate on repaving my building's rear parking lot. Spoke with Frank (owner) on the phone to arrange a time to meet on site to go over the job. I waited for an hour and a half and he didn't show - no call or anything. So, I give him a call to remind him of our appointment and first he forgets who I am and then tells me his guy is 5mins away and he's following 20-30mins behind and assures me he'll call me to go over the job scope once he's on site (I told him in our initial phone conversation that I had to leave for the westside latest by 11:15 and even so I waited until 11:30). An hour goes by with no call so, I call him to see what's going on. He lets the call go to voicemail where *surprise* the mailbox is full. Tried again a half an hour later, same thing. He measured and left. I called to ask where he was. He sent someone back to measure more areas i wanted done. Never heard back with the estimate. Phoned and left a message twice. Strange.
