Aspen Dental was great when I was paying cash money (over $10k this year), but as soon as I introduced my new dental insurance policy they all acted like they've never worked with my insurance company before. I've been waiting since early September for a refund of something that should have been covered by my insurance policy (I unexpectedly paid cash since they "couldn't figure out my insurance.") I have called several times since then, working with Megan, Jeff and Marche and no one ever has an answer for me. There doesn't seem to be a corporate number to call anywhere because the company keeps their contact information on lock and refers you to your local office, who I am having issues with. I last spoke with Jeff on November 13th when he promised me to figure it out and he would call me back. No one has ever called me back about this. I will not be continuing treatment here unless Dr. Misung Son calls me personally to explain why his staff cannot figure out my insurance policy. Dr. Son, you are a great dentist and you do great work and I really appreciate all of the major work you have done for me this year, but I am not returning because of the incompetence of the staff figuring out insurance policies and following up. I have also left a voicemail for Kelly in the Patient Satisfaction Team at (315) 454-6000 ext. 201526 with no response, and the main Patient Satisfaction Team phone number suggested here on other google reviews doesn't lead you to a human being. I'm tired of working on this and will consider it a loss at this point. I am sharing my experience at Aspen Dental on Newberry Road and Dr. Souren Hajjar so others can make an informed decision before seeking care there. Due to my insurance, my options for wisdom tooth removal were limited, but had I known what this experience would be like, I would have chosen differently. I arrived on 03/31 for the removal of four fully erupted wisdom teeth. Before the procedure, I clearly informed both the assistant and the dentist that I had previously experienced heightened anxiety after receiving a high dose of nitrous oxide during a non-dental procedure. I explained that I was unsure whether I would have a similar reaction but wanted them to be aware. While I was understandably a bit apprehensive about my first tooth extraction, I have never had dental anxiety and did not report it at any point during this visit. I have undergone multiple dental procedures, including root canals with local anesthesia, without complications or anxiety-related issues. However, I later discovered that the dental assistant documented in my procedure notes that I reported "severe dental anxiety," which is completely false and appears to have been added after the fact. I was told I would receive a "low dose" of nitrous oxide (50%). Within about a minute, several local anesthetic injections were administered in rapid succession, and extractions began almost immediately, with minimal communication. I was instructed to alert them only if I felt "sharp" pain; any other discomfort was considered normal. Despite significant pain, but not the "sharp" pain described, I tried to endure it. The procedure was performed at an extremely fast pace. I was not adequately numb for much of it and felt pain during multiple extractions. When I began to panic due to the speed and intensity, the dentist stopped briefly for less than 30 seconds and, almost annoyed, mentioned that if I was going to react this way, I could return another day for full sedation. This was after one tooth had already been extracted and while I was still under nitrous oxide. I did not want to prolong my recovery or pain, leaving me with little practical choice but to continue. Dr. Hajjar did not use this pause to make any adjustments or increase pain management. This was the only time during the whole procedure I was asked if I wanted to stop, although later in the medical record and through verbal communication, they falsely stated they asked me multiple times during the procedure. The entire procedure was completed in approximately 10 minutes and 34 seconds. I know this specifically, because the dental assistant immediately commented proudly on the speed, referencing a timer they had set, as if completing the procedure as quickly as possible was the priority. Dr. Hajjar left barely saying a few words. When I questioned the assistant about the rushed pace, I was told the doctor had other patients to attend to. After standing up, I noticed the clinical environment appeared disorganized and unclean, with tools, paperwork, and visible grime on surfaces. From the time that I walked in at my appointment time to the time I was shown to the front door to leave still in an obvious state of distress, I was in the office for less than 45 minutes. Shocked at how rapidly I was discharged and my emotional state, a family member spoke with the team on my behalf immediately after, as I was still shaken to advocate for myself. The front desk was unaware I had even been discharged when my family member went inside. The receptionist had told them they expected me to be finished in 1-2 hours. When concerns were raised directly with Dr. Hajjar, they were dismissed with comments such as, "not everyone handles procedures well." No acknowledgment of the issues or indication of concern was offered. Later, when I followed up personally, I received a similar response. After reviewing my records, I also identified multiple discrepancies in the documentation of my visit. At no point during this experience was I asked if I was okay or shown any empathy. I understood there would likely be discomfort, but at minimum, I expected communication, appropriate pain management, basic bedside manner, and to be treated with a standard level of care and respect. Instead, I felt treated as a task to be completed rather than as a human being. This experience has had a lasting impact, and I strongly encourage others to carefully consider their options before seeking care with this provider. read more

The price was pretty affordable for the filling considering I don't have dental insurance, and the doctors, assistants and office staff were super nice and took great care of me! The doctor also told about me getting a crowning for my tooth once I get dental insurance and I appreciated the honesty! I needed two crowns. My insurance could not cover the crowns and I explained this to them. They quoted me a price of $2200 for both crowns and recommended that I apply for their financing which I did. They completed the first crown with no problem. On my second visit I was informed that I would need to pay an additional $1700 because my insurance would not cover the "Discount". Whatttt? Discount? I told you I didn't have any insurance left to use and you quoted me a price of $2200 with financing for both molers. Fees used up all my financing is what they told me. My experience with dentist and hygienist were fantastic: Madison (hygienist) and Dr. Knepper (dentist) answered my questions thoroughly and were great. Hope Aspen holds onto them. That said, my experience with billing has been god awful. Do not pay upfront, as I've never seen a vendor so slow refund you after dental insurance processing. I have called half a dozen times over the last two months about the fact they owe me a refund. Even when he corporate office agrees that they owe you a refund, they won't refund you, and just issue you a virtual credit on your account for any future work, and you have to wait additional months of processing in the billing department before you have the option to call them again to issue a refund. They will slow walk you as long as possible to hold onto your money as long as possible--it's almost as if they are actually in the business of holding onto your money and making interest off of it. Crazy good service, right? Additionally, be warned, I realized only after I paid that Aspen has excessive mark ups (expect to pay double market price or more depending on the item such as Rx mouthwash, Rx toothpaste, Arestin antibiotic treatment, etc). Definitely compare prices and do NOT just assume just because they are an in-network provider with your dental insurance, they are billing you competitive prices in any way shape or form. I would strongly recommend avoiding big corporate Aspen as even when they owe you a refund after processing your dental insurance, they will slow walk it for months despite repeated directives to return the money. If you overpay, you will have to call corporate many times and months later. The over-market billing on charges and the questionable corporate practices on issue credits instead of proactively refunding are incredibly problematic for building customer trust and acts as a huge disincentive to return, despite the good dental staff. read more

At 8:45 the morning of my 11 am appointment I got a call telling me there was no oxygen for the sedation but if I wanted to do local anesthetic I could come in. no way after the horrid extraction session I already had w them. Sharon told me i would get a call from the office manager, Brittany. I have had many conversations w Brittany when we were working out the finances. They are bad. The service is one of the worst. My previous dentist was moved to a different location, so I visited Aspen only for cleaning. They said they checked my insurance and the cost would be less than $319. When I asked them for the invoice and the medical treatment history, she said it would be sent home based on the system. So, I got a service and received the bill after two months with the extra $560. The insurance company said that Aspen used too many antibiotics to accept it. When I requested the medical treatment history, they never sent it. They are fraud!!! read more

Despite the horrible reviews, I went here around 2018 because I needed an emergency root canal and they were the only place that could get me in. They charged me almost $1k , but also said I needed a $2k+ cleaning because I had signs of periodontal disease and would need an intense deep cleaning (1,000% not true per my actual dentist). They scared me pretty good, but I only paid for the service I actually needed in full. Almost a year later I'm getting calls from a debt collector saying I owe Aspen Dental $600. I send them the paperwork saying I paid in full and they said Aspen billed the insurance for more than originally agreed on. I said that's their problem. Worst part is -- I had to have the same root canal redone recently because they didn't clear all the infection from the root. read more

I wish I had read the reviews sooner. Appt scheduled and confirmed for 11:00 am, but reception called at 1030 to see if I was still going. I arrive 15 min early and wait until nearly 1130 to be seen. I get X-rays and follow dental assistant (DA) to the chair where I believe I will be having a cleaning. DA explains a numerical system the hygienist will use to rate my level of gum health. The hygienist comes in like a fast talking, grandiose, sales woman and starts to measure my gum pockets. She VERY quickly gives each tooth 3 numbers then diagnoses me with Stage I Periodontal disease and tells me I need a very deep cleaning that will require local anesthesia but the dentist will be able to inject more if necessary. I see the dentist for maybe 3-5 min. Says my teeth are in great condition with the exception of evidence of teeth grinding. He recommends a custom made mouthguard for sleep. I'm pretty sure I'm not grinding my teeth. My partner denies ever having seen me do so in my sleep. No cleaning is done but I am instead told to schedule another appt for the recommended services. Someone from billing tells me she wears a mouthguard at night and that many others in the office do so as well. Total for deep cleaning and mouthguard exceed $1500 and will not be covered by insurance. I tell them that I will schedule my appts at a later time. I'm a resident physician in the area and felt there was something deceptive going on here. I did a lot of googling and reading through literature and am convinced that I don't have gum disease. While I haven't had dental care for a few years, I have been taking pretty good care of my teeth by brushing and rinsing twice daily with nightly flossing. Also, there was never any mention of even gingivitis in the past! I rarely ever bleed and I don't see any visible signs of gum swelling. Long story short, this place is a scam. I will be following up at a local mom and pop dentistry for my second opinion. read more

ANOTHER UPDATE: So after all the above drama, I decide my old dentist is not to far after all. I made an appointment to have the discolored filling (that Aspen wanted to fix with a crown) removed and replaced. I am talking to hygienist as I walk into the office and told her I went to Aspen. She says (and I quote) "don't tell me let me guess. They told you that you have a bad case of periodontal disease.. ya, they tell everyone that!" We laugh and the dentist comes in. He has power tools in my mouth for about 10 minutes and tells me to rinse and hands me a mirror. "What do u think?" He says. I say "I think that was really fast." And look in the mirror. My tooth was no longer the wrong color but perfect! He says "it just needed a deep cleaning" Apparently, it accumulated stains from coffee/tea and such and just needed to be cleaned. Best part of the story is as I am leaving, I stop at the front desk to settle my bill and she says "do u have the same insurance?" Of course I say yes. She says " then your all set. We will see you next time." Moral of the story.. STAY AWAY from Aspen Dental!! read more

From start to finish I am so grateful for my experience with them. The virtual scheduler was super helpful. Brianna in financial counseling went above and beyond to create a financial plan that worked for me. She also helped after the procedure and is truly such an integral part of their team. The doctors listened to me during both visits and were extremely knowledgeable and thorough. The surgeon was also very kind and did a perfect job with the procedure and listening to my history. The assistant who helped him also helped me not to freak out during and after the process (lol). I do wish I'd had more time to recover after the procedure before walking but given that they squeezed me into their schedule due to my impacted wisdom teeth I am grateful to even be seen. The staff seems to really have a passion for what they do and to care for each other. They checked on me frequently and made me feel safe. I was there 3 hours for a "free cleaning" as covered by my insurance. They did the x-rays, then started a sales pitch to sell me $5000 of services (25 teeth supposedly needed $80 of antibiotic EACH...) before telling me they did not have time for my cleaning. After the $5000 push "consult", I asked what I owed and was told "nothing". I then walked away with my cleaning not done. A week later I got a bill for $50 with no justification. Signed treatment plan with original appointment, they recommended 4 teeth to get pulled, 2 being wisdom teeth. Due to price after INS I sign treatment plan to only get one. $326. I call d back to inquire if I were to add one other tooth what would price be. 532 dollars. So I said ok I'll wait on that and add it at extraction appointment if I decide to get the extra tooth pulled. Arrived at appointment today and went to restroom and had husband pay they went ahead and charged me for two teeth and my husband didn't know so he paid it. I find out how much I was charged and when I went to address it with front desk girl her demeanor instantly changed. She didn't acknowledge me and walked off. So I spoke to someone else when they called me back for the procedure. They changed it and said I would get refunded which is fine. Still waiting for funds to come back. I realize it could be a few days. Went to back the dentist didn't say two words. Staff was not friendly at all after that. Procedure was done within 15to 20 mins. Extremely rushed and it was super rough. I'm in extreme pain right now. Then when it was finished they gave me a bag and without saying anything they escorted me out. Get a phone call from Walgreens a few hours later saying I had 3 prescriptions waiting and ready. If Walgreens wouldn't have called I wouldn't have even known I had medications. The dentist or assistant didn't say a word about that. I feel like I was assaulted with how rough and rushed it was. I've had alot of tooth pain including infection and broken tooth but the pain I'm feeling now is unbearable. Initially, I thought this was a good practice. However, I soon discovered that they are deceptive, they discriminate against seniors. They discourage insurance and have a 25% off scam they run. They take too many x-rays, request money up front prior to beginning work. Their invoices are vague and they invent past due amounts. They don't respect privacy and discuss patient accounts, treatment and fees in front of full waiting room. I made a first appointment as I wanted either a crown or implant. I got there early, filled out their electronic paperwork, provided my ss# and all my personal medical history. They then took me in and said "we need to get xrays since you're a new patient". I told them I had a full range of xrays just done with my prior dentist and that they can transfer them. THEN they said they don't accept xray transfers from other dentists. I told them I would not do that, but that they could take a couple xrays of the particular tooth involved. To me; that would be perfectly reasonable, but they turned that down. So I got up, went to the front desk and registered a complaint and left. --- They are the first dentist I ever went to who would not accept xray transfers. THEY ASBOLUTELY 100% SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THIS WHEN I WAS MAKING THE APPOINTMENT. I had about 30 to 40 xrays just done by my prior dentist, some 9 to 12 months ago. So, what does that mean to you? This is what it means to me... 1. They were unprofessional by not revealing that they are the only dentist on the planet who don't accept xray transfers. 2. I'm not getting irradiated again for no reason; healthwise and money-wise. If my xrays were old, that would have been another matter. If they think the radiation is so safe, then they take off the lead suite. 3. Aspen Dential is selfish and opportunistic by hoping I'd say to myself "darn, I don't want to have to find another dentist and make another appointment and capitulate to their snare. 4. Since they would not agree to just taking the couple of xrays of the tooth in question and working with my existing "very new" xrays from my prior dentist, then I can only assume that they want to make xray machine money on every single patient without any regard to our genetic health or any inconvenience it may cause us once we find out they will not accept xray transfers. THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. Are they your friend? Do they live by "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?" Apparently not. read more

When you get to that new branch they switched you to without asking, they tell you "we don't take this insurance at this branch." GO LOCAL. I Called the Aspen Dental In Gainesville Florida about two months prior to make an appointment for me and my daughter. They called the day prior to confirm that I was still coming, which I did. When I went there, the wait time was very, very, very long. When we went to the counter to get checked in they told me that I was not confirmed, I was very upset because I confirmed my appointment the day before. They were able to squeeze only my daughter in after waiting for over an hour. They apologized and assured me that they will call me to schedule another appointment so I could be seen the next day being that they are the ones that messed up. After waiting for almost two hours, my daughter was seen. It took another hour or more before we were checked out. I was then given a huge price for the treatment plan and given the option to do a payment plan. I agreed to try and was asked for my social security number, however, I was not informed that they would be pulling my credit. I visited the Newberry Rd in Gainesville FL, On my first appointment everything went great, i went in knowing everything i needed and wanted done, my appointment was scheduled for June 15, 2020, i went to my appointment they first took X-rays and then brought me to a dental chair, i told the dentist all i wanted was for my top denture to be replaced, and my teeth cracked on the bottom so i needed 8 roots extracted, they told me the oral surgeon will be in on the 20th, so they made my next appointment for then, after my appointment was done on the 20th i had to go over the bill the total was $7200.00 my insurance paid their portion and i was responsible for the rest, my god $7200.00 i didn't get gold teeth! lol, Well anyway i went to my appointment on the 20th for my extractions it took less then 20 minutes to take out all the roots, The oral surgeon put my new dentures in both top & bottom, and i left, well two days later my mouth is real sore i can't keep the dentures in they are way too big and biting into my gums bad, i had the top denture done he put the stuff in my mouth to get hard 'yuk' to make the mold for my new teeth, same thing for the bottom, i paid over $4000.00 for these teeth they shouldn't be this big, i called the office to go in to have them be relined (same office on Newberry Rd, Gainesville, FL) and she said they don't have any openings until July, i told her i can't wear these i will have blisters in my mouth and she told me there is nothing else available, so that's what this place does is make my teeth and pretty much doesn't care after... I had a top denture already and when i had that made anytime i had a problem they took me right in so i didn't get blisters...I paid a lot of money for these they need to fix them asap so i can wear them and eat if need be and not get blisters, What kind of dental office is this? Had made an appointment to get a basic cleaning as I was told my insurance was covered at this office. Apparently that wasn't the case? After getting there I had X-rays taken which was beyond unbearable as it seemed the assistant wasn't super familiar with them. After about 45 minutes and a lot of pain, I was able to get into the chair. Doctor comes in and looks at my teeth and then they proceed to tell me I can't get a cleaning as they're short staffed and will need to make another appointment. What? I've never experienced this type of situation at a dentist office before. Why would I make two separate appointments? Furthermore, I leave and when they eventually call me back they say they accepted my insurance a year ago..? Huh? I've called and spoke to the office multiple times and they're just now telling me my insurance isn't covered? How does this make any sense at all? I am one angry and frustrated customer. I went for a dental exam in May 2018 (which took two visits... WHY?) and paid my bill in full. Since then I have received a collection notice from CCI, inc continuously. I called numerous times to Aspen and CCI asking them to mark my account as paid per my receipt and bank statement. The first thing they want to do when you visit them as a new patient other than taking all types of mouth X-rays and panoramic X-ray is to measure your "gum" pockets. The conclusion is always the same which they tell you you have major gum disease and bone lost and you need deep gum cleaning which requires numbing your gums and cleaning your gums in four different sessions. Also your insurance doesn't cover that and you have to pay anywhere from $1200-$2200 out of pocket!!! Not to mention cutting your gums and putting you through much pain just for money. They lie to you. A second opinion with another dentist will prove their lies. It is wrong for people who paid their hard earned cash to these guys and went under major pain unnecessarily. I guess the malpractice laws don't apply to dentists as it does to health providing physicians and this gives them the freedom to cheat good people who trust them. read more

I have been to Lake City, Fl and Gainesville FL Aspen dental clinics, as these were my insurance options. I am adding my 2 cents to the complaints/reviews. Both places tried to rip me off. Aspen, Lake City said I had a cracked tooth and needed a crown. Gut feeling had me drive 75 miles for 2nd opinion, to my "old" trusted dentist before moving farther South. I was prepared to have the work done there, which was $800 cheaper too! No cracked tooth found. He said "don't go back to them, PLEASE". I then changed to Aspen Gainesville. They also tried ripping me off!! Said I had periodontal disease and needed deep scaling and antibiotics. Over $1500. Hmmmm. After reading todays reviews, I see I'm not the only one they try to rip off!! I will NEVER go to any Aspen again. Nothing Aspen told me was correct! I got in with my previous dentist (before moving). What an eye opener. Got my teeth cleaned and good report. I will drive the extra miles, even though they are out of Network with my insurance. I went to this place for a complete check up a month ago. I lost my insurance card (the card itself, I do have insurance) so I didn't have my account # with me. I did get the check up done that day. The people (a gentleman) at Aspen told me oh it's okay we'll verify your info with the insurance company today and I'll call you so let's go ahead and book you for cleaning. Two weeks later when I went in to get the cleaning done they said they forgot to verify my info so I either have to pay for it or I can come in later. A lady apologized to me very nicely, said she would DEFINITELY verify my info within an hour and she will DEFINITELY call me this time to confirm with me. No, didn't happen. AGAIN. I didn't hear from any of them. I guess they are pretty popular in Gainesville because there isn't that much of competition. I am moving out of FL soon. So, whatever. I just hope that when they say they'll call you, better make that call. Don't make promises that you don't even intend to keep. read more

Is it January yet?! I cannot wait to switch dentists! My first appointment: I was there for 5 hours before I was seen and I was there for a total of 6.5 hrs (just for an evaluation). They said that one hygienist and a couple nurses (dental assistants, whatever) were out so they were swamped. I have scheduled 3 appointments with them and have been rescheduled maybe 6 times? I had an appointment today (3rd appt I mentions above) that they had to cancel because the hygienist is out....again. They said they can see me next year. No thank you! January 1 I am locking in another dentist! Just to add another example...the Saturday after thanksgiving I had an appt booked. My day went horrible and one mishap after the other I was driving home from Orlando specifically for this appointment. It was complete stop & go the entire way. Half way through as I'm already agitated with traffic they call to cancel. Again. Then I had to drive the second half home pissed bc I could have stayed in Orlando. Good news is they look pretty clean. read more

Two of the girls who work there are very rude. Today they had an irate patient so they came next door to my job and harassed me to make themselves feel better. Even my store manager laughed at them as they walked out the door after demanding a refund. They don't like it when people stand up for themselves and don't take their crap. They both gossip about rude patients so if you go there expect to be talked about. read more
