We found another dentist and are happy. 2 months later, on a Sunday, we got a nasty note saying we were over due for health care, when I spoke with someone in the office today, she advised me there was no record of the text. When asked again, she suggested it was part of their automated system. My spouse is a retired dental hygiene instructor and I am retired corporate management. Extremely poor management and average care.

So, for example, I've never had the same dentist twice. Either the dentist is no longer there, isn't working that day, or whatever the excuse of the day is. Every single appointment has been with a different dentist. Front office is flat out rude; but that type of rude that's done with a smile. Huge "bless your heart" vibes. They also like to play games about insurance, saying that they accept your insurance but then, miraculously, when paying they no longer accept it. Different people get charged different amounts for the same procedures. For example 3 adults in my family all had x-rays, fluoride, and cleaning. Charges ranged from 200 - 450. All of us had the same amount of time, and the itemized receipts (other than the costs) were the same. That was the final straw for us. Even if you were happy with your work, when you leave you're left with the impression of the office being greedy, game players (with your money), and of course... bless your heart.

"Would tomorrow at 10:30 be too soon," the cheerful lady on the phone asked. I arrived for my appointment to discover the person checking me in needed $331. Odd, given that my insurance plan - which this place ostensibly accepts - covers exams and cleanings at 100%. The office manager assured me it was just an oversight at the front window, and then proceeded to tell me they couldn't give me an exam or clean my teeth without first doing a full set of x-rays. I agreed to get the full x-rays (even though I had had them within the last year) and proceeded with my "evaluation." The evaluation revealed a need for "deep cleaning," that would cost about $500 and require two visits. No, I was told, you can't just get your teeth cleaned. (Remember, I've seen the dentist twice a year since Jesus was a baby and suddenly I have periodontal disease requiring scaling and planing?). Oh, and you have two cavities. Really? How could my former dentist have missed my periodontal disease, cavities and - wait for it - need for root canal? Yes, root canal. The dentist said I'd probably need a root canal and gave me a referral to a specific endodontistry practice. This was my first and last visit to this practice that wanted me to buy the 19" chrome wheels, sport package and extended warranty.

They fit me in the same day and my teeth now look better than ever! Honestly better than they did before my bonding fell off. I had my teeth cleaned a few weeks later and the hygienist is equally wonderful. She has a sweet nature and a deep understanding of dental hygiene. Dr. Cruz also did a thorough exam which included the mouth, teeth, jaw, gums, tissues, lymphnods, x-rays and what have you and I felt very confident I was being well cared for. My teeth haven't felt so clean in a very long time and I am never going to another practice.

I had some horribly painful new fillings from another dentist in town (*cough* hack job), and they were causing jaw discomfort. They were not smooth at all, and the fillings were too high, causing issues with my bite. I'd been back three times to have assorted messed-up fillings fixed, to no avail. Dr. Van Dyke's team was super sympathetic and found a small window of time for me the next morning. I came in with my nerves totally shot and feeling a little gaslit, like maybe I didn't actually have problems with my teeth, but I was imagining them at this point. Dr. Van Dyke sat me down, took a look and completely agreed with me. He took what little time he had and fixed my bite, and smoothed out another filling that was bothering me because it was left rough. He noted that the high filling he fixed had left one of my molars loose (!!!!!!!!!) and asked me to come back for a follow up a month later to see if it would "tighten up". All told, he made me feel better that I wasn't crazy AND he fixed the problem for me. I left feeling vindicated, much happier and more at peace with my mouth in general. His staff was so sweet, patient and kind and the office itself is nicely appointed. It's clean and quiet, which is very soothing. Many people fear the dentist, but Dr. Van Dyke is gentle and kind and I would recommend him to anyone. PS I went back a month later and the molar is fine now :)

The procedure was not covered by my dental insurance, but it was covered (and preapproved in writing) by my medical insurance. We covered all this before the procedure began. So, they submitted it to dental, where it was of course denied, then sent me a bill for the full amount. I called the clinic for an explanation, called my medical insurance to discuss (they had a record of the preapproval and no record of any contact by Altschuler), but my dental insurance DID have a record of denying the claim. So, I called the billing department again and explained they submitted it to the wrong company, and they agreed to submit it again. After repeated misrouting and follow up by me with all parties, we are now past the 180 day window during which my medical insurance would accept a claim. So, the full amount falls to me to pay. Live and learn.

They were very honest and let me know it was actually something else and not my tooth, which I really appreciated. I ended up having a few visits for other things, including a cleaning, and every single time the staff was very nice and welcoming. I had Dr. Habib, who was absolutely phenomenal. He's very kind, efficient, and clearly knows his stuff, which made me feel really comfortable. The office itself is clean, modern, and has state-of-the-art equipment. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a plus. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the billing. A few times my insurance got mixed up, and while I was there, I noticed other patients coming in with billing concerns as well. To be fair, that could be more on the insurance side than the office, but it did cause some inconvenience. Overall, I would definitely recommend them and will continue going back!
