I honestly had too much pride to address the constant pain flowing like the Mission Valley River through my nervous system. My days of dark shooting pain became my norm. Finally, I said enough is enough!!! I needed help. I was referred to Dr. Jay from my Uncle; a long time patient and advocate of Jay's work. Not to get too metaphorical, but I was a lost sheep and Dr. Jay was the Shepard that showed me the way. Dr. Jay started slow, the attention to detail was evident, and his care was real. He knows me personally from my C1 to my S5. My rehab didn't happen overnight, but we made daily progress. Today my back is better than ever. Today I can touch my toes and Dr. Jay touched my heart. I had never had back issues before this and was hesitant about getting adjusted by a chiropractor. However, after a month of being in pain and not being able to work out...I went on Yelp and saw that Carmel Valley Chiropractic and Dr. Kunard had great reviews. I have to tell you that after 3 sessions, I got most of my mobility back and the pain was virtually gone. I'm back to working out regularly and attribute it all to Dr. Kunard. He knew exactly what was wrong when I explained my issues. I recommend his services without hesitation!

Pain can make you a crazy person. He developed a care plan that was specific to my needs. I had so many ups and downs. I have been a patient since August to December. He came in consistently and never waivered to any patient . He still sees me at the BAY CUB because of course he comes in hours early and leaves late so he finishes everything. For his professionalism and unwavering dedication I give him 5 stars. The team at Proactive is a well oiled machine in large part due to Jen and her unwavering commitment. She is like the strong Mother who keeps everyone in line. Call backs constantly to let her patients come in ASAP. She is open, honest and straightforward. She is a 5 star in my book. Even though Alexis is in Mission Valley now congratulations. She deserve it sweet kind caring and hard worker dedicated. Lucky Mission Valley to have got her transfer. The other PT helpers (trainers) were very helpful and kind. I always felt they worked as a team. While I'm trying to get stronger Jenn would be on the phone making sure I'm in good form, not letting me lazy!!. The only complaint I had was there is so many patients that needed to be seen and Jenn would call everyone work so hard to fit everyone in with little notes everywhere and multiple screens up constantly there wasn't enough Physical Therapists scheduled to get the patients in. I even had to wait several weeks to get an evaluation. Believe me she had me on wait lists. The area is small but cozy and everyone works together. They do a GREAT JOB of giving everyone space and getting around. They should be commended on the TEAM WORK they have. FIVE Stars to Carmel Valley. I had a great experience minus trying to get scheduled not enough therapists.

One issue was the room was very small, so I would be hitting my body when getting up. The PT or PTA should have moved the table out but I think they moved so this problem is probably resolved. My 2nd issue is one of the Pt or PTA used so much pressure that I had a black and blue bruise and was in a lot pain. My mom, a registered nurse, wanted me to go to urgent care as the bruising was really bad. My 3rd issue is after my prescription ran out from the doctor they told me I so come back for 12 PT more visits. They did not ask me to run that by my doctor at all. I ran it by 2 different orthopedic surgeons who said no wait until after surgery for more PT. The company then called me to schedule even though my doctors said to wait. From my experience, I do not think high of the PT at Proactive at all.

From my very first appointment, Mykaela gave me hope and reassurance. She is kind, positive, knowledgeable, and truly has a heart of gold. She even took the time to research my condition so she could better understand how to help me. Since starting physical therapy, I have noticed less stiffness in my calves, I'm not falling anymore due to balance issues and my legs don't get as tired. I feel like I have so much more energy throughout the day! I am now receiving PT for my neck, and once again, I'm amazed by Mykaela's knowledge of the body. She is professional, gentle, and genuinely cares about her patients. I also love this company! Everyone is so kind, the team works wonderfully together, and the environment is calm and welcoming. Mark is a focused, but empathetic, force in helping folks address what ails them. I'd thought I'd come to the end of my PT experiences with my Knee Replacement and, most recently, a Shoulder Replacement, but then got referred to work on my spine. Mark is an encouraging person who explains both the big picture, and the specifics of the attack plan to get better. He is also creatively flexible, responding to feedback from patients to craft a more effective workout. Mark flipped my disappointment with having to go back to PT, into a renewed motivation to address my spine, and to incorporate the weak knee and shoulder into continued strength-building and range of motion improvement. Mark's treatment team (the folks who set up the exercises, help patients do the exercises, and help patients maintain success momentum) are Jett, Miguel and Matt. These are the guys who help me get my form right, transition between exercises, and generally help with whatever a patient needs to excel. They are upbeat and full of energy, as well as perceptive enough to help patients fine-tune details of their performance. They help put each individual's plan into action; they are where the rubber meets the road. Last, but definitely not the least, is the Huge Smile patients see when they come in the front door: Mareya. She checks everyone in, and gets everyone organized for their sessions. Rachel left us all behind and took off for school in Michigan; good luck! I recommend PRN PT without reservation. They are professional and always have their patients' improvement in mind, while balancing any other physical issues patients might have. They are not only great at what they do. They are great people, too!

Surfing is my favorite thing to do. I hadn't surfed for a year and a half. I tried everything to get my knee back to health but the doctors said I need a knee replacement. The surgeon didn't want to do it though because I was only 45 years old and he wanted to wait till I was older so it could last me till death. He said he would do it if I really wanted but couldn't guarantee it would help. I tried everything from experimental injections, to stem cells to supplements to red lights to braces and pretty much anything you can buy to help. I have spent a lot of money on this knee. Just google osteoarthritis and you will see that everybody is saying they got the cure. Finally, as the last thing before just sayin f... it and getting surgery. I started looking into sports medicine and physical therapy. I started with some bs online programs and even bought one. But it wasn't tailored to my specific problem. A generic program can help but you want to target the problem and work on that directly for the best results. I had torn the meniscus 2-3 times over the last 15 years but never got it fixed. Doctors won't do an mri and tell you to ice and rest. Now I have osteoarthritis on the lateral side of my right knee. This degradation of my knee was not just from getting older. It was from living life to the fullest and shredding... from soccer to baseball to basketball to skateboarding to snowboarding and most of all surfing and everything in between . I just wanted to talk to some people locally that would see me and get their thoughts on if they could help. After speaking with a few other places, I finally found Colton at functional performance institute. I actually had an appointment somewhere else prior but they had to reschedule due to the main guy not being available. They wanted to have me see another person there that wasn't the specialist. This was after they told me how great that guy was and that I had to be seen by him. Thank god for that as it continued my search. I'm sure a lot of the other places are good, but why have good when you can have great? From the first phone call with Colton, I knew this place was different. He set up a free consultation and told me hey if I could help you great, and if I can't, good luck. Long story short I went in and he did some tests on my movements and pain and flexibility. He let me know that my knees were no worse than professional athletes that are still playing and he set up a program to strengthen the right parts of my legs and body to support my knees. He told me I had to commit to the program he sets up and to myself if I want this to work. He built a custom plan targeting the muscles used for surfing to help protect my knee. Fast forward 5 months, I started to feel much better and stronger, so I booked a weeklong surf trip in Nicaragua. Pumping, fast pitching barrels, yeah, what was I thinking right? Honestly, my buddies made me go since I was so bummed out for the longest time. They said just go and kick it, even if you don't surf it will be best week of my life. Surfed all day everyday. I continued rehab when I got back and now surf regularly again. I definitely am more careful and I don't go every day but I feel good and confident in my knees again and have no pain. Everybody here kicks ass from the front desk to Colton to the other therapists, they are all awesome and complement each other well. Brian is another therapist here and there is literally no drop off in his skills or knowledge. When I first met him, I was thinking okay...here we go, I'm being pushed down the line to the new guy who just took an online class but boy was I wrong. If I would have started with him on the first day, I know this journey would have had the same results. I can't say enough about how great this place is. If you have pain or injury holding you back from enjoying your best life, you owe it to yourself to go in here and take back your life. If cost is holding you back from being able to do the things you want to do, remember one thing...it's just money.
