PB's Greatest Hidden Gem:
The Asis physical therapy is by far the greatest hidden gem in PB. My life was over when I suffered a 50% MCL tear from surfing. Any least that's what I thought, until I met Dave Karg at Asis.
There were a few weeks at the beginning of my PT where I thought my knee would never recover to its full potential. All Dave asked of me was a little patience. Sure enough, after following his work-out plan in the office and the take home works-outs, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Not only was my knee recovering, my postures and body mechanics were improving to prevent future injuries. Before I knew it, Dave was prescribing me some of the most creative exercises and workouts, which he definitely thought of himself and didn't find on TikTok, to not only heal my knee but build it back even stronger than before.
Dave and assistants such as AJ and Gisselle would, on multiple occasions, stay late to make sure that I had finished my workouts. AJ and Giselle both did an excellent job of paying attention to detail while overseeing my workouts to make sure that I was executing properly, answering all of my questions, and taking the time to ask Dave for clarification if necessary. I also observed AJ and Gisselle showing the same attention to other patients when they weren't working with me.
Additionally, Asís PT is the perfect place to get updates and share opinions about all of the football games from the week; just ask Dave Karg about his fantasy football league! And if you don't care about football, Dave will always lend you his ear when you need someone to just listen, and offer deep nuggets of wisdom when you need advice. That being said, Dave only gets paid for physical therapy, so I try not to take advantage of his willing ear.
Sure, you could find a different office. But if you want a quality recovery program that works, from people who really care and want you to get better... if you want camaraderie and connection, and to stretch oversized rubber-bands until your glutes burn in ways you didn't know was possible , and your abs to scream during obscure core workouts: "who am I really doing this for?" Look no further than Dave Karg, DPT, and the employees like AJ and Gisselle at Asis physical therapy in Pacific Beach. And while I may have left a number of my PT appointments drenched in sweat, hammies burning, don't be discouraged if this doesn't sound like it's for you. Dave curates his program for each patient, finding the right balance of exercise and effort for you. Dave is an excellent listener; he takes his patients feedback seriously, and will incorporate your needs and insight into your recovery.
As saddened as I may be to be completing my recovery program at Pacific Beach Asis with Dave, AJ, Gisselle, and the many other employees, I am so honored to have had this experience. I believe Shakespeare wrote: "better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all." Let me then say, "better to have done physical therapy at Asis with Dave, than to have never injured my knee at all."
P.S. If you're still on the fence about where to get PT and with who, I'm afraid no one can help you. read more
