I had just come from a weekend away in Palm Springs, where I had planned to relax, run, and engage in as much fitness as possible. I headed out for a run on New Years Day; new shoes, new lululemon pants, new Garmin watch, and after about 20 min. my outer knee was in so much pain I had to basically walk the rest of the way home. I was devastated and confused. Not only had I run for about an hour for 2 days in a row prior, I have been an avid runner since High School. Even with icing my knee for about 3 days straight, nothing was helping and I knew I had done something more serious. My history of running - I have run a total of around 4 or 5 half marathons easily, no knee pain since 2012. Completed many 10K's and casual runs on my own at least twice a week for years. It was something that happened so out of the blue, I am just thankful that Alex entered my life when he did. He started out with the basics, which at the time seemed a little out of context. "What other workouts do you do? What has changed in your exercise in the last year". I couldn't really come up with much, other than lots of YOGA. Becoming a certified Yoga teacher and basically doing yoga everyday for the past year only seemed like it was helping my running. Of course. Alex saw this as a red flag right away. With the types of exercises that I was engaging in on a weekly basis, I was only extending ligaments and asking parts of my body (my knee) to over compensate. This then effected my IT band, more weight in my calfs, soreness, you name it. It's a vicious cycle. After about 5 sessions with Alex - he not only identified the root cause of my pain, but trained me to run in a different pattern so I could alleviate the pain, without having to give up what I love. We took everything in phases, added in weights, combined static movements with real time workouts and in no time, I was back. To this day pain or not, I have shifted the way I run bc he has taught to me always look ahead. Alex sees prevention of injury like no one else I have ever met. I am not a very optimistic person when it comes to my body, bc I am very in tune with how it wants operate, or not operate for that matter. I was completely in awe when I made it through my first 30 min. From January 25th, when I tried to run a 5K and made it 5 min, to about mid February, I was running about 25-30 min. and now, I can run over an hour with no knee pain. Alex sees things and connections that no one else I have ever see does. I went to 2 different knee specialists who were runners themselves and left with very little optimism, and zero improvement. Alex has a holistic approach to the body that cannot necessarily be taught. It's in his intuitive nature and he sees the way in which body connects. This knowledge that he has is why he can not only guide people to overcome their injuries, but can advise on how to avoid degenerative tendencies that come with age, overuse, and in my opinion... a passion for your sport. I couldn't be more thankful for his knowledge, expertise and precision when it comes to the human body and protecting it for the rest of the active I life I have. Thanks Alex! :)

I initially went to him for 10 sessions, but I'm completely hooked now! I'm hoping to keep it up for as long as the $$ allows! He's got a great personality, is very professional, yet fun, always on time and very dedicated! I love how he clearly cares about your fitness! I am always so amazed at how much he can accomplish in 30 minutes time! Not one minute is wasted! Highly recommend him!

Carmel Valley is a solid, well maintained location with the familiar OTF rhythm: clean space, organized floor, and that corporate template that keeps everything predictable no matter where you drop in. Parking is surprisingly abundant for this area. The only odd thing is that the prime spots right in front are labeled 30 minute parking even though every class is a full hour. It's a small detail, but it jumps out every time you pull in. Classes here fill up fast. And I mean fast. Waitlists are the norm, and I've been turned away more than once. If you're not booking early, you're rolling the dice. As for coaching, I haven't found a standout yet at this location. Everyone is competent and friendly, but the coaching style stays pretty homogenous thanks to the tight OTF corporate structure. If you're looking for consistency, you'll get it. If you're looking for a coach who completely changes your game, I haven't met that person here. Overall, it's a clean, reliable studio that delivers exactly what OTF promises: heart rate monitors, clear metrics, and a workout where you're competing against yourself in the best way.

I signed up a month ago, and from the very beginning I had various issues with my heart rate monitor. It felt like all the different girls at the reception kept giving me the runaround and I was getting frustrated having to use a loaner every time and hearing different answers from different people. Finally, I was able to meet with the manager, Amelia, and she really turned around my whole experience. She immediately fixed all my issues without me even having to ask, which I really appreciated. Ever since then, I'm a happy member! I have the unlimited membership and go about 4-5 times a week. I love all the classes and all the coaches! I never thought I'd enjoy a treadmill workout, but I even take the Tread50 classes once a week and they're a lot of fun!

All the trainers are great each one has a different personality and style of training so it's nice to get the variety. And they all truly care about your personal goals. They give you modifications if you have an injury or when you're feeling like you need to train harder. The owner, Danny, is always looking for feedback so he can cater to his clients schedules and lifestyle, also looks for ways to build a community for us. They make you feel like family. And when you really commit with their nutrition recommendations the results are amazing. The other clients are great. It's nice to see familiar faces and to see people making progress on their goals. I love that they incorporate some alternative classes once a week. I can't wait to try the yoga. The virtual live zoom workouts have allowed me to have some routine/normalcy during this crazy difficult time of world wide viral war. I need someone telling me what to do and how my firm is and to push me harder. FitMo fam definitely does it for me. Thanks guys for keeping it going!

I am a 22 year old college student and I wanted to do something to start having a strong and fit body that I loved. I tried many different fitness programs in San Diego, but I had never been completely motivated to follow my coaches suggestions and to not cheat. The day I went in for the info session at Fitness and Motion, the coaches showed me before and after pictures of their clients and I thought "wow! they look amazing... if they can do it, so can I." In 6 weeks I have lost 11.5 lbs, gone from 27.4% body fat to 24% body fat, and lost over 3.5 inches off my waist. I think those numbers speak for themselves. I have a sweet tooth, but the coaches really motivated me to sacrifice sweets and give healthy food a chance, and I surprised myself in being able to do it! What makes their program awesome is how holistic it is, the trainers KNOW that to be healthy you need to workout but also need to eat healthy and sleep. They give you tips on how to not fail, like on what you can order at restaurants, or what snacks are good to have at your desk or purse that will actually aid in your nutrition and weight-loss. I will continue to go to Fitness and Motion because I see the results of their method on a weekly basis. The facilities are super clean, and you do not get that sweaty gym smell that some gyms have. Great music choices for the HIIT workouts. The only drawback for me is that they share bathrooms with the other businesses in the general area, but just bring your flip flops to shower there and you should be good. If you actually join them, I suggest being very open and communicative with the coaches. Tell them what you struggle with (whether it is eating or doing cardio on your own) and they have effective solutions and strategies for your struggles. I personally trained with Aurelie and Stephanie. They have great workouts to tone your abs and waist area. But most importantly, they really care that you get your results and that you get healthy because they care about you. They learn everybody's name and meet with people to establish new goals once the old ones are accomplished. I have no doubt that if I keep working hard and doing what they tell me to do I will get to my goal of body fat percentage very soon. Thank you to Fitness and Motion and the staff for starting me in the beginning of my new lifestyle and for being a such a supportive group of coaches. #FitMo #FitmoFam

She's a great conversationalist and really makes it feel like you're just working out with a friend (who keeps you honest and hard working!) and she totally has also become a great friend! Right from day one, I could tell that she was dedicated to my goals and interested in working with me to achieve my milestones. She really helped me develop a habit of working out and changing my lifestyle rather than just running through workouts with me. She is very responsive to your progress as you train with her and not to mention, keeps her workouts dynamic. I was never bored with our sessions and found that she constantly pushed me as soon as I had mastered an exercise. With Sam I was able to discover new methods of toning up past just using the weight room. Over the course of the few months that I trained with her, I've definitely become more active and mindful of my fitness regime. Additionally, Sam is great work with on a personal level as well. She's fun and very amiable. I found it very easy to talk to her which in turn just helped increase my comfort level with her. I highly recommend Sam to help anyone achieve their fitness goals. If I hadn't moved, I certainly would have continued training with her! Completely worth the investment.

I am not seeing Marko for fitness but for his Acupressure-Massage for cronic soft tissue hip pain…read more Before I found Marko, through a trusted friend, I tried deep tissue massage, chiropractic, ultrasound, laser treatments, stretching, sauna, swimming and exercise. Nothing was working and I'm trying to get in shape to hike mountains in Colorado in 3 months but have a lot of pain just walking my dog, sitting or sleeping! After just two sessions with Marko and I'm finally getting some relief. I'm so excited to finally feel like I won't have to cancel my hiking trip! This is a massage like no other I have ever had and I work in the spa industry. He is so strong and gets so deep that while it is happening it is quite painful but he guides you in breathing through it and doesn't go beyond what each client can personally handle. You could never get a massage this deep at a professional business - it's that deep! You have to really want to get better and trust that doing the work will get you there. Bottom line: I've lost 25 lbs and re-gained a craving for exercise since I started training with…read moreMarko 9 months ago. Feel free to stop here if you are already sold, but I'll give you my story if you need some more convincing. Last year I put on 50 pounds during my pregnancy with my first child. I realized towards the end of my pregnancy that if I did not do something to lose that weight after I gave birth that I would be "one of those women who lost their figure and never got it back" for the rest of my life. I decided then that my goal was to be back to my pre-pregnancy weight by the time I went back to work after maternity leave. Marko helped me achieve this goal, and I absolutely could not have done it without him. I started training with Marko six weeks and three days postpartum. I had not worked out for months since before my pregnancy, and had not consistently worked out in years. I was very lucky to lose 35 of those 50 pounds the first three weeks after I gave birth just from nursing, but the weight loss stopped there and I was stuck with another fifteen pounds that wouldn't budge. The first thing you notice about Marko is that he is incredibly fit. The next thing you notice about Marko is that everyone he is training is incredibly fit. As I looked at the perfectly sculpted body of the other woman Marko would be training alongside me that first day I felt completely intimidated and extremely hopeful at the same time. I wondered if I would ever get back into my pre-pregnancy jeans, but I figured if he helped her look as good as she did perhaps there was hope for me too. The thing is, she is not an anomaly. Everyone who works out with him looks that good! I'm not going to lie, the training was brutal at first. I was completely out of shape, and working out after 3-5 hours of interrupted sleep with a newborn was no joke. But Marko ramped me up slowly. I loved his philosophy about the intensity of workouts. He would demonstrate an exercise for me, give me the number of sets and reps, and then told me to complete them at my own pace. He gave me an analogy about his dog Pablo, "Pablo fetches the ball over and over again until he is tired. Then he stops for a bit an rests in the shade. When he is ready to play again he gets up and keeps going", Marko told me. So I worked out as hard as I could, and I rested when I needed to before starting again. Marko gradually ramped up the intensity of my workouts over the next few weeks as I grew stronger and stronger. I only had the energy to work out with him twice per week, but I committed to always go train with him those two times weekly no matter how exhausted I was from taking care of my new baby. Within a month or so I noticed an incredible change in my stamina and the amount of weight I could lift. By the time I went back to work I had lost every last one of those 15 pounds of pregnancy weight. My co-workers were completely amazed that I had lost all 50 pounds in just 4 and a half months. I'm not sure if it was harder to start working out with a newborn or to keep working out after returning to work full-time and taking care of an infant when I got home. I can also honestly say that I would've fallen off the wagon if it wasn't for Marko encouraging me to keep up my new level of fitness and to not lose momentum. As I tried to get back into the groove at work there were times I was not able to train with Marko and would instead try to workout on my own. Marko would send me texts to check in on me and ask if I had made time to workout that week. The guilt I would feel if I had not done so would make me go to the gym the next day. Plus I knew that he would kick my a*#$ the next time I trained with him so I better stay in shape or I would be seriously feeling it. I am still training with Marko, and I now weigh 10 pounds less than I did when I got pregnant. This weekend I put on a dress I bought before I met my husband that had not fit since. The dress fit perfectly, and he had never seen me in it in the five years we have been together. I can now say that Marko has not only transformed my body but he has transformed my life. I really look forward to working out with him, and am self-motivated to workout on my own three or four days a week. Marko still sends me texts to check in on me and make sure I'm, "Doing my homework," as he says. The best part is when I workout at the same time as one of his other clients who hasn't seen me for awhile and they say, "Wow, you look great!". So what are you waiting for!? If we happen to train at the same time one of these days I guarantee you won't know that I am the one who weighed over 200 pounds last July. I am on my way to having the beautiful atheletic body the rest of Marko's clients have as you will be too if you call Marko!
