We were looking for a restaurant on Glenstone Avenue. One whose doors remained open past eight on a Sunday evening as it was that time already. At the last second, instead of turning right to go to one of the restaurants we'd already tried, We turned left to the "Asian King Buffet." I kind of had a-hankerin' for some rice. My daughter loves all things Asian, including their foods. We were both pleasantly surprised. One of the few restaurants in the Springfield area that actually had carpeted floors. That kept the noise level at a minimum. We could actually enjoy a conversation with one another. Why most restaurants just wax over the noisy concrete floors is beyond me. The sounds just bounce off each other into a crescendo of cacophony sounds. There were four double-sided buffets to choose your food from. That food was very tasty. I had small helpings of nearly everything. Their biscuits were delicious as was the Mongolian Beef, Coconut Shrimp assorted chicken flavors - General Tao, Cashew, and Sweet & Sour. Vegetables taste fresh. Egg rolls were toasted just right. We didn't try the crab legs and neither of us a sushi fans so we passed on those. Anna our waitperson, couldn't speak a whole lot of English but she made up for that with a cheery disposition. The only strike against it was at closing time a little Chinese guy was wildly sweeping in front of the buffet. We added Asian King Buffet to our ever-growing list of "Places to go." At raw vegetable bar found moldy broccoli and tossed it for them. Mistake. That night contracted Norovirus, a very contagious virus that you get from contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces. The virus causes your stomach or intestines to inflame and swell with severe stomach pain, retching, and diarrhea. Bedridden for 3 days, no food, barely water. Ate here 6 hrs before symptoms. We stopped in kind of as a last resort due to over an hour wait at other places. Since this place was busy we thought "why not" and went in. I'm not much of a fan of Asian food but my daughter loves it. It's bad when my daughter can barely eat it. The lo mein was overcooked and had no flavor. The chicken on a stick didn't taste right. The sushi........well, my daughter had to excuse herself to the bathroom to spit it out. She said it tasted like dirt. Now, I'm sitting in my hotel room sick to my stomach. Don't waste your time eating here if you want crab legs because they only bring out a few every 25 minutes with no seasoning. The Dinner menu at night is 13.99 with crab legs. But you won't get any ! They still charge the 13.99 price. So basically you pay 13.99 for a Chinese buffet that is not worth that. They are advertising crab legs and you think that is a good price but it's not. When you ask about it they just walk away. They know what they are doing. They don't bring enough out so they are making more money. We tried for an hour to get some and never did. This is a Chinese buffet. You know what you're getting into. The best times to go are obviously around peak hours as that is when food will be the most fresh. They offer a pretty wide variety of things and have more available on the weekends (such as crab legs). One of my favorite dishes is General Chicken and Asian King Buffet's version is not very good. It's biggest issue is that it is not spicy. The other strikes being often dry chicken and soggy breading. Sweet n Sour and Cashew chicken are DYI style (you get the chicken and then pour the sauce over it yourself). The biggest issues with this is that it's JUST chicken and sauce. No whole cashews or scallions and of course no pineapple in the sweet n sour (which isn't a staple in SnS per se but many expect it). The sushi is mediocre but this isn't a Japanese owned restaurant and it's certainly passable for a buffet. The crab rangoon is perhaps my favorite as it has a very thin, crisp crust that is just enough to contain the gooey deliciousness inside. Some other dishes include Mongolian beef, cheesy crab meat with vegetables, teriyaki chicken, coconut shrimp, frog legs, bourbon chicken, stuffed mushrooms and black pepper chicken. They also have a Mongolian BBQ area where you select what you want cooked and well you know the drill. All in all it's a decent Chinese buffet and there aren't many. read more

My family and I had a very good experience here tonight (July 5 2015). The food was most fresh and there were lots of vegetables available. The sushi was decent and there was a selection of 6 different kinds. The tofu skin sushi was very tasty. The service was excellent, our used plates were whisked away almost immediately and our drinks kept full. A couple of the wait staff came over a few times to talk to our baby, he loved it - it made us feel welcome to bring him there! All in all this is a great Chinese buffet. I don't understand how this place has this high a rating. It used to be good several years ago, but the quality has gone downhill. The buffet is too expensive for the quality. The sushi plates were almost empty when I arrived. There is no rice on the main food bar--It is obscurely located near the stir-fry bar in closed pots, towards the back of the room. I couldn't find a soup bowl, until I discovered that they are inexplicably placed towards the back, considerably farther away from the actual soup than they should be. I never knew who my server was until I was 2/3 through my meal, and we flagged her down. Then, she finally got my one drink refill. The main buffet is split into 3 sections that are so cramped that people are regularly bumping into each other to get their food. I am utterly baffled by the 3 stars this place has. Asian King Buffet is exactly the same as Ichiban down the road, but with less variety, freshness, and organization. read more

This was a very good buffet. Not the biggest buffet in town but the food was fresh and great tasting. They do have raw oysters on Friday night but don't come here if that's the selling point for you. TL;DR -- If kept properly stocked, with foods holding hot and replenished at appropriate times, this was a good variety of dishes that I think I could have enjoyed. Unfortunately, my family did not have this experience. Food was very clearly not being hot-held appropriately in the buffet warmers. If you chanced upon grabbing some right after a new batch came out, it was nice and hot, but everything else on my plate was unappetizingly lukewarm or room temperature by the time I got to my seat. That is, however, except for the Mongolian BBQ -- steaming hot, but overcooked to the point that I tasted one piece of each meat in my dish and was embarrassed to have to push the entire thing away, afraid to test my teeth against such shoe-leather. Sushi was not refilled the entire hour or so my family was there (around 5-6pm on a Wednesday). I got the last piece of both types of sashimi on my first trip up to the buffet and recommended the Yellowfin to my party, but they were unable to ever get a piece. Bourbon chicken had the most flavor. Coconut shrimp was my favorite dish, but ran out quickly and was lukewarm after just a few minutes on the buffet. Crab rangoons are quarter-sized tiny things, so there's not a good balance of creme cheese/crab to wonton wrapper. I didn't even take a bite of my chicken wing, it was so leathery. No potstickers on the buffet, to my disappointment. A general lack of flavor in many dishes, notably the egg roll, egg custard, and lo mein. Service was attentive and the place seemed clean. No wait to be seated. We sat at the table at the end of our meal for a bit, waiting for the check to be picked back up, without realizing that we were meant to take it to the desk on the way out -- oops! read more

We were craving Chinese food and after reading mixed reviews, we stopped. We were greeted with smiling faces and were seated in a booth, which we requested. My seat was taped up, which is tacky but better than ripped I guess. We ordered our drinks and went to get food. There seemed to be a good variety. There was 1 (one) chicken wing on the buffet that apparently everyone was afraid to take, and the staff wasn't putting anymore out until it was gone...so I guess it was a standoff. The food was all sweet except for the mini crab ragoons. When I say sweet I mean as in syrup. Black pepper chicken was even sweet....why?! As I sat there I also realized how dirty and run down the place was. An apparent water leak left the ceiling stained and wallpaper peeling off. The blinds were filthy with dirt and food and the carpet was horrible. I should say I did not have the sushi for fear that it might have actually been warm and no one was cooking at the mongolian bbq station so I didn't have try that either. As far as Covid restrictions goes, they had several rules set in place for everyone's safety which is a good thing, also the service was very good. However, the food was seriously lacking. It all kind of tasted the same and was nothing to write home about in general. The sushi selection was simply put... bad. And the raw meat for the Mongolian grill looked like it had been sitting out for a very long time, there was no ice on the beef in particular and that was a huge disappointment that drove me away from the grill. The crab rangoons were teeny tiny...as if they cut the wraps in half or quarters of regular size rangoons to make these. I wanted to try the hot and sour soup, but I couldn't locate the bowels. Definitely not on any of the buffers with the food, soup, and plates. Randomly found the fried rice obscurely located in closed warming pots at the end of the Mongolian grill window.
