First, the restaurant needs clearer signage and parking directions. Finding our way in was confusing, although the restaurant itself was beautiful once we got upstairs. Unfortunately, the food and hospitality didn't match its upscale appearance. We arrived shortly after four women who told the host they had no reservation and wanted the Gold package. We had reserved Black Diamond for two. We were late due to Atlanta traffic and the I-285 closure in Cobb County, but had called ahead. We didn't mind waiting. What bothered me was watching the walk-in party get seated first, at what appeared to be a better table. I was told they needed a larger table, although theirs didn't look noticeably larger than ours. We were seated in the middle of the dining room. I requested a window table but was told it was broken. I understand that, but Black Diamond advertised outdoor/balcony access and priority seating. We received NEITHER. Outdoor seating wasn't available despite no rain, and I didn't notice heaters. We weren't offered priority seating as an alternative. For a premium birthday dinner, that was frustrating. There was also an event or party happening that hadn't been advertised when we reserved or mentioned when we called ahead. We were seated at 9:30 PM without a reminder of the 90-minute dining limit, then faced a 10:30 PM kitchen closing. That left us feeling rushed through a dinner we had paid a premium to enjoy. It also seemed to be an event we might have planned to attend had we even known about it. Clear communication about the event, dining window, and kitchen hours would have made a significant difference. Our server, Jason, was genuinely wonderful: kind, helpful, and attentive. He was the highlight of the evening, alongside the cocktails, which were delicious and well balanced, with the right alcohol-to-mixer ratio. Credit where it's due. Unfortunately, the food was incredibly overrated. The shrimp were unpleasantly hard. The crab was cold, had a disgusting aftertaste, and seemed so overcooked that extracting the meat was a struggle; it broke into tiny pieces. At least offer it steamed. I've had all-you-can-eat crab at Gohan Buffet for around $50 that tasted comparable. That's not a comparison a $360 dinner should invite. The lobster was equally disappointing: a tiny, roughly 3-4 oz tail served cold, with almost no flavor and another strange aftertaste. Lobster should be a highlight of a premium seafood package, not an afterthought. Much of the steak tasted noticeably gamey, with an unpleasant flavor rather than the rich, buttery wagyu experience I expected. The A5 top round was one of the few beef selections I enjoyed, and the sushi was very good. Those were exceptions, not the rule. The buffet was underwhelming. No wagyu fried rice--just noodles, broccoli, a few dry-looking burgers, egg custards, and a nice assortment of fruit. It's telling that the fruit was one of the better parts. Having to get up for our own rice felt oddly basic for the price, and the miso soup lacked flavor. There was no birthday acknowledgment: no dessert, presentation, or small gesture. Restaurants don't owe guests freebies, but thoughtful hospitality matters when someone chooses your establishment for a celebration. Wagyu House has a beautiful setting, excellent cocktails, and a fantastic server in Jason. But the seafood was disappointing, most of the beef unpleasant, the buffet limited, and we received neither the seating benefits nor the relaxed experience we expected. Expensive ingredients and pretty decor don't automatically make a meal luxurious. Execution and communication matter. For $360, I expected to leave impressed.
