    General Tso's Tofu

Thanks to Yelper reviews that led me to this surprising gem in Rantoul. I'm working in Rantoul this week, and when I drove into town yesterday all I could see were the usual fast food restaurants. Sigh. But when I checked Yelp I found five star reviews for Asian Bowl Express, and I knew I had to try it. An enthusiastic five stars all around! Five star service, five stars for the food quality, five stars for the extensive menu. I ordered General Tso's tofu and spring rolls, both were delicious. I have had General Tso's at many different restaurants, often it is far too sweet. This was perfect, and a very generous serving too. Truly enough for two meals or for two people to share. The employee was very friendly and helpful, she answered my questions and made a recommendation that was perfect. Just what I was looking for. The interior has some beautiful plants. I ordered my food to go but enjoyed looking at the plants while I waited. Prices are EXTREMELY reasonable. Also, there is a drive thru. You can call to place your order and pick up in the drive thru if you want. This place doesn't look much from the outside, but what matters is the food and service, both of which are truly outstanding. You won't be disappointed!

I honestly was a bit scared to try this place knowing what the outside and inside looked out. But WOW! I was really taken back when I started eating!! I did a take out and the service was very good. I really can't complain about anything.

    Yellow Curry Chicken.

Passing through the area, we stopped into the Asian Bowl Express... excellent!!! My wife had General Tso, and I had Yellow Curry Chicken. I highly recommend it.

But that being said there were a lot of GREAT things about this restaurant so I'll start there. The restaurant itself it's so moody and vibey I LOVED it, was such a good place for a date night, our waiter was so attentive, helped with all of our questions and a very patient with us as we worked through the menu. 10/10 service! We got the dumpling and pork bun appetizer and both were AMAZING, seriously the pork bun?? I could have eaten 1000 of them. Next was the sushi, I got the Atlantic hand roll and another member of the table got the rainbow roll, both were very fresh and flavorful, highly recommend. Next was the entree, I got the pork belly ramen, as a huge ramen fanatic I was SO excited, especially following up our appetizers, the bar was set high and unfortunately I was so disappointed. The broth was not very good and everything so extremely salty, I couldn't even eat the mushrooms in the bowl because they soaked up so much of the broth and it was like a salt bomb in my mouth. The pork belly was cooked well and I did really enjoy that, but for a $20 bowl of ramen, it really fell flat for me. I also got the sweet heat cocktail, and it also wasn't for me, cocktails are so personal so it's not that I wouldn't recommend someone try it, it's just that I didn't hit for me, and that was the general consensus of the table. While I had a great night, I would probably try a different restaurant for Asian food before I came back to this one!

However, the quality of food here does not seem to justify the price point set at Ko Fusion. The menu reflects the fusion aspect of the restaurant. Ko Fusion offers an entire Japanese sushi menu, along with various stir fries, curries, ramen and even Korean BBQ on certain nights. From the multiple visits I have had here, I would not say that they stand at the top in any cuisine, the food is relatively average. First things first, paying over $20 for a single sushi roll is one of my least favorite dining experiences out there. With restaurants charging a little more for an all you can eat experience or even doing buy one get one deals, the sushi roll has to be really, really good to make it worth it. I did not feel that way here at Ko Fusion. In fact, I felt that Flaming Phoenix Roll was good at best and when I finished, I was still starving. I do think there is an effort to import quality ingredients and do a nice job with presentation, but I was definitely not satisfied. On my next visit, I wanted to order a dish as it would hopefully fill me up more. I ordered their Bul Go Kee and at $32 dollars, I was really was hoping it would be a standout dish. The food was alright, but again, could not justify the price point set for the dish. Not only that, I am looking back on the menu and realize that I never got the lettuce wrap portion of the meal. The beef itself had some decent flavor and was tender, so it at least wasn't a bad dish. I just was left feeling like I did not get my money's worth. Would I recommend this place for nicer occasions? I guess so. However, I would go so far to make this your go-to Japanese or Korean spot, places that specialize in those cuisines would likely give you a better bang for your buck.

I think many Thai places are very similar, standard noodle and curry options with the same meat choices. I found that Siam Terrace has some really neat options that I normally do not see in my local Thai spots, and they do a great job with the food as well! First and foremost, Siam Terrace does the basics correct. What I mean is that their noodles can always be an option if you need something simple. Normally I am not a Pad Thai person, I prefer the spice of the Pad See Ew instead, but I decided to get it here and it was outstanding. Noodles weren't too sticky, all the sour, sweet and salty elements were there, and it was super filling and affordable! They have so many different options, I imagine they are all fantastic! The item I ordered that I don't see often elsewhere is their duck curry. Although it is a red curry, there are enough sweet elements to balance the blaze of the curry. The duck itself is tender and flavorful and they certainly don't skimp on the amount of duck you receive! Paired with rice, it is a really great dish. Another underrated aspect of the restaurant is that it is so accommodating to various diets. They have so many vegetarian friendly options, including said duck dishes! I can always stand behind a solid restaurant that serves all!

This place is by far the best Thai food I've ever had and let me tell you I've had a lot of Thai food. The peanut sauce they used on their chicken and broccoli. The egg rolls were outstanding. I'm so so sad. I won't have a reason to come back here for a long time. I might have to create a reason.
