Maybe I haven't been paying enough attention, but if you were to ask me to name a place that could give you a unique Thai experience, I would think of Siam Terrace. I think many Thai places are very similar, standard noodle and curry options with the same meat choices. I found that Siam Terrace has some really neat options that I normally do not see in my local Thai spots, and they do a great job with the food as well! First and foremost, Siam Terrace does the basics correct. What I mean is that their noodles can always be an option if you need something simple. Normally I am not a Pad Thai person, I prefer the spice of the Pad See Ew instead, but I decided to get it here and it was outstanding. Noodles weren't too sticky, all the sour, sweet and salty elements were there, and it was super filling and affordable! They have so many different options, I imagine they are all fantastic! The item I ordered that I don't see often elsewhere is their duck curry. Although it is a red curry, there are enough sweet elements to balance the blaze of the curry. The duck itself is tender and flavorful and they certainly don't skimp on the amount of duck you receive! Paired with rice, it is a really great dish. Another underrated aspect of the restaurant is that it is so accommodating to various diets. They have so many vegetarian friendly options, including said duck dishes! I'm actually depressed that I am leaving town tomorrow and I'll have no reason to come back to town for a long time. This place is by far the best Thai food I've ever had and let me tell you I've had a lot of Thai food. The peanut sauce they used on their chicken and broccoli. Peanut dish was like nothing I've ever tasted before. Their pod Woon sen was out of this world and both had an enormously generous amount of fresh veggies. Everything was fresh. The prices were good. Siam Terrace never disappoints. Their Yellow Curry (#C4) is amazing with lots of big pieces of chicken, carrots, onions, potatoes, pineapple chunks, and bell peppers in a perfectly seasoned broth. My friend and I came for lunch for his birthday. The crab Rangoon was very good! The crispy pad Thai noodles were very bad though. They took the noodles and deep fried them, then covered them in an average tasting sauce so they got completely soggy. I was expecting crispy pieces in the noodles but they entirely deep fried the noodles -- I spoke to the waitress and clearly displayed that I did not like my food, she dismissed me and walked away. She asked me if I wanted a box, I said no, and left all of the food . Visiting a friend and staying in the area. Looked up "dinner" on my trusty Yelp app and it led me to Siam Terrace. Ordered Summer Roll, Chicken Pad Thai and a Thai Iced Coffee. Summer Roll was good but there were no protein options. I may have ordered incorrectly though to be fair. I asked for "Fresh Spring Roll" and was told that was their Summer Roll. It's all veggies. It was okay but would have been better with a protein choice. Chicken Pad Thai was good as well. Tasted pretty authentic! (I've had pad thai in Thailand before). I asked for spice level 2, and think it was a good amount of heat for my liking. I did ask for some hot sauce on the side and I think it was chili sauce they gave me. It was the perfect complement that let me adjust the heat level to my liking. Thai iced coffee was refreshing! However it wasn't as sweet as the ones I've had before. Maybe it's a good thing to not be too sweet. It was still good to drink it in order to offset the heat from the pad thai. Service was also great! At first I thought this place was overpriced, but I think I was wrong. Granted, it's in downtown Urbana so you need to consider that when making your selection. They have some very flavorful dishes that are decently authentic. I've had Thai fried rice at numerous places that are often too oily and often lack aroma and flavor. Siam Terrace has amazing Thai Fried Rice. I was blown away by their Tom Yum Noodle Soup. Tom yum is my go to in winter months, but the portions were so large and the noodles were very generous. It's a nicer ambience if you're looking for a moderately classy vibe but not over the top. Ifs a great place to check out if you're in the Urbana area craving some Thai food. read more

AMAZING food. I think it was also highlighted by our awesome server, David. He is so knowledgeable on what he is serving and even gave some facts about crab rangoons. Which is another thing, we get crab rangoons at most places that have them available. My wife mentioned that she loved that it wasn't just cream cheese in the Rangoon. The pad see you was awesome with the spicy garlic sauce they had and the mussaman was sweet and hit the right notes of flavor you want from Thai curry. I have been coming to Siam Terrace for approximately 20 years. I have yet to be disappointed. Now, add in their server David who I noticed in the last year and you are bound to get excellent service. An added bonus here is he knows the menu and explain dishes to entice trying new things - which I am always hesitant to do. Tried the Thai Fried Rice, which was quite good overall. It was a little heavy on the onion, but other than that all the components came together quite nicely. Meant to leave a review on Saturday after a great service experience by a helpful red haired server. He moved urgently, but not rushing as he waited on tables. Love a server who does their job well. Sure this is isn't a time to strike up friendly banter, but still he was part of the best team of servers I've had in a while. I really hope they get all the tips the guests are leaving with the generous pockets of people like me dining in for the first time in a long while. I've heard lately of some restaurants that are skimming the credit card tips and paying a higher hourly wage. This is the reason give only cash tips lately. Think this might be a time where giving a cash tip is the best way to guarantee the service gets your $ and not the management. Speaking as a former book keeper of a large restaurant in the city that was using the credit card tips to pay managers. They were caught and had auditors digging through years of back wage records. Sure I thought it was wrong, but as my manager said, "it's the owners call." Only one brave server spoke up when he realized the GM and other non servers were getting a tip check. After a flat tire on a drive back from AZ, we arrived at Strawberry Fields just too late for food. Then we found this place down the road and boy are we glad we did! We were happy with so many vegetarian options! We had hot jasmine tea, steamed veg dumplings with ginger soy sauce, veg fried rice #2 spicy, tofu vegetable special #4 spicy with a side of noodle instead of rice. My go to Thai place in Chambana. I have dined in on a weekday for lunch. They have specials that are under $12 that include salad/soup along with your main entree. Portions are shareable for dinner. They're open during the shelter in place and also deliver. Pick up is a breeze and cheaper if you do this vs delivery services that increase the price of each menu item. Love their pad Thai. Add a little spice (level 2) to keep you feeling good about yourself. The papaya salad is delicious and if you like tangy and spicy (or you can skip the spicy), this is THE DISH! They also serve sushi. The tuna in the tuna maki is very generous. Fresh and good. They take all major credit cards and there is free parking in the back if you can find it. I discovered this place this year and I must say their food is quite tasty. They have a huge menu. Endless options. I love it. As far as their appetizers, I've had their crab Rangoon and vegetable egg rolls. They both taste delicious. I've had their fried roll, I think it's called Miami heat or something along those line. It was honestly amazing. I also had their duck stir fry with vegetables it was okay. I wouldn't order it again but I'm ready to order their noodle soup next time I go. Uber Eats offered me 50% off a pick up order and after about an hour of deliberating, I finally decided to try the Mock Duck Basil that I've heard so many good things about. The food was made very quickly (about 15 minutes) and pick up was very easy. I'm actually a meat eater, but I love seitan and really enjoyed this dish! There was a good amount of mock duck and it was incredibly tender and juicy (?). Not sure if there is some sort of breading around it, but it was very good! Unlike some of the other thai restaurants on campus, it is a sit down restaurant. Servers were friendly and attentive. There menu has the typical american thai food, but the specialty menu is where you can find the unique thai entrees. i unfortunately did not get to try any of them as my wife suggested I tried the thai mango curry. I subbed the shrimp for chicken. The entree did not take long to arrive. Portion sizes were excellent and the flavor profile was spot on. Prices are very good for what you get as well. I was disappointed that the curry was on the watery side. I am disappointed that my gift certificate wasn't fully honored. We are in a global pandemic and COVID hasn't gone anywhere and is beginning to spike. With all that is going on, I didn't realize I missed the expiration date by 24 hours. I asked the waitress to ask if there was any grace period to honor the full amount, and she said "knowing the owner, he won't allow it." I then asked her to inquire any way because we are living through unprecedented times, and surely he could make an exception. She returned and said the owner would not allow it. I eat her often, and this is the only Thai restaurant I like. Based on the unwillingness and inflexibility of the owner, I will not return! He or she could have definitely made an exception, and it wasn't like I came in with something that had been expired for days or weeks. The owner never came to the front, and it appeared he or she couldn't care less. While I hope cases don't rise, but if we have to go back to phase 1, possibly the owner can work on better customer relations while closed. I will seek other options, and tell everyone I know, which is a vast group of people, about my less than optimal experience. read more

Also, Siam Terrace is the only place I noticed they'll put the sushi/rolls BELOW other entree dishes so the raw fish doesn't get cooked from the heat. Their pad thai, pad see ew and pad kee mao are all great but I recently fell in love with their pad woon sen. The portions are great, and the tofu protein option is phenomenal. The best in town!! Their shrimp tempura leaves some room for improvement (They may reheat fried shrimp instead of refrying it as the shrimp doesn't taste crispy) but otherwise, great value for the sushi/sashimi. Their spicy salmon roll is good. One warning if you get the urbana/champaign tower: they place the wasabi near the rice so pay attention when you mix everything otherwise you'll end up with an entire mouthful of wasabi. read more

I had very high hopes for this establishment. I thought the food was good. I thought the quality was great. I thought that the service could use a little work but with any restaurant, there's always room for improvement. The reason why I am granting this establishment one star is because of the fraudulent charges that occurred on my credit card. I have dined in multiple times in this establishment and when it comes to ordering extra meat or sides the price is usually range from $2.50 to five dollars. I have ordered a total of eight times and I've asked for extra meat every single time in which charges had additional $2.50 added. I tried ordering from Grubhub and then my credit card was charged an extra $15. I spent over an hour speaking to grub hub. Who connected me with the restaurant who informed GrubHub that when it comes to dining in the restaurant they only charge $2.50. However, if someone is ordering the exact same item through Grubhub they will of charge by over 100%. For what I usually would pay for for extra meat which is $2.50 while dining in, if I order through Grubhub I was charged $15. There is nothing that states on their website and ordering online that they were going from 2.50 to 15.00. When it comes down to it, I wouldn't mind paying whatever it is I need to pay for, but please do not make it an option on your website and through Grubhub that extra meat cost 250 and then bill us for an extra $15. Please do not make it an option if in reality it really isn't an option. This is extremely ridiculous. read more
