I've gotten food from many chinese take out style restaurants and based on the reviews I'd hoped this would be a great weekday dinner pick up. Sadly it was not. The staff was friendly and generous in their portions they gave but the quality of the food was subpar. The orange chicken was doughy and bland and most egregiously was drenched in oil. It settled in the stomach like a ton of bricks. The kun pao chicken was full of veggies, a plus, but it was one note and too saucy. And where were the peanuts? The broccoli beef has limp sad broccoli and was drenched in the same brown sauce. The chow mein was overcooked and the friend rice passable. The meat, both the chicken (dark meat) and beef, frankly tasted old. The chicken was dark ad fatty and well, unappetizing..... eat at your tastebuds risk. read more

Wanted Chow Mein for a Friday night dinner. Ordered online around 5pm (August 22nd 2025). Added Honey Walnut Prawn dinner for a treat. Hopped in the car, as the order was confirmed to be ready in 15 minutes(Wow! So quick on a Friday night!). Crowded parking lot, looking from/at O'Sullivan's on Thornton Ave. Clean floor as I walked in. 1 person waiting on a side bench, 1 person ordering. I'm next. Stepped up to clean counter and asked about my order. Counter person checked my order status and let me know it'd be a few minutes. I sat down on one of several clean padded chairs facing the kitchen/steam table area. Both folks ahead of me got their orders. A delivery service slipped in for their order and I got called next. Total time between ordering and pick up was 17 minutes!!! Soooo quick! Fresh, hot tasty food. Combo Chow Mein noodles were perfect al dente and Not greasy. Chunks of chicken, whole small shrimp, small chunks of pork. Meats were distributed nicely. Veggies were chrisp/tender and also well distributed. I'm sooo glad I got the Honey Walnut Prawns! Lightly breaded prawns with a light, honey sweet sauce. Accompanying rice (Not sticky, YaY) and sauced cabbage were just right. I will be coming back for these generous, tasty foods soon! read more

Pretty solid for takeout chinese. It wouldn't be fair to compare it to high end chinese restaurants. If you have reasonable expectations, this place will easily satisfy your cravings and wallet. This place is a much better option than Panda express. You get way more bang for your buck - a combo plate can last 2-3 meals for me, so that is VALUE. The sweet and sour pork and orange chicken didn't taste too bready at all. The shrimp, however, did contain more batter. Regardless, the shrimp was still good and I would consider getting it again for future potlucks. The people working here are so nice and hardworking! The store itself was small, but there was a bench to sit while you wait. read more

This place used to be very good with their dishes 7 years ago with the original owners, but now this place has lost its quality. I ordered vegetable fried rice with Honey-walnut prawns, the fried rice was very salty probably with MSG, There was 80% fried rice with only a few chopped carrots and some peas , usually fried rice usually comes with chopped green onions and egg. There was only 35% of the shrimp but mostly batter and hardly any of the honey sauce . The union city location isn't any better because THIER shrimp was even smaller. lol I don't think I'll be ordering that dish anymore. read more

Ordered for pick up and the food was decent. The honey walnut prawns was a pretty large serving and the flavor was good. The batter was just kinda thick. I got the vegetable chow mein and it was a little bland, next time I'll try the pork or combo chow mein. I also ordered a side of vegetable egg rolls and it tasted kinda funky. It had. Weird taste to it. The photos in Yelp of the establishment are pretty old because I though it was going to look really old and dark inside but it was actually brighter than pictured. Been going to Asia Express for our go to Chinese food. Their food is always delicioso .We go there for the plate ready items but you can order any menu item and it will be ready faster than you can say fortune cookie . Wife orders the combination soup with no noodles for her low carb selection. It's good they offer mixed vegetables in addition to the choice of rice or chow main as the main item dishes. Great super friendly service with a smile. If you're short on time I highly recommend this place, heck even if you have plenty of time I recommend this place. Starting off, this is a Chinese/American takeout restaurant with family/low cost offerings. I just don't want to give anyone a misconception about their menu. We've been customers for about a year and a half and initially found some offerings better than others but seems that's to be expected. Overall, the offerings were decent enough if you don't feel like cooking and want decent meal at a good price. The restaurant seems clean with friendly helpful staff. Now the bad news. Over the past few months we have observed a disturbing change. Lately, it seems many of the dishes have the same vegetables regardless of the dish. Peas and carrots from the can, zucchini, and a bit of celery. Cashew chicken and Kung Pao chicken are the same except for the amount of chili paste. Which brings me to my final criticism, as noted over the past few months everything we order even dishes that aren't normally chili hot have become so hot we can't eat them. Don't get me wrong, we like spicy hot foods but not in dishes that shouldn't be and not so hot you can't taste anything. It strikes us they're substituting heat for flavor. I haven't been able to find a place that serves good honey walnut shrimp/ prawns until I found this place. As you can tell by the pictures, I completely devoured the food because it was so delicious. I look forward to eating food from here all the time because it's so good and the honey walnut prawns taste so good and the texture is amazing. Chow mein is also amazing and I love the thickness of the noodles. This spot is the best. At first I was not sure what to think. Located in a small mall with other stores and next to an Irish pub, this small space turns out a BIG meal!! I had to order for an office for 8 and the food that they served was outstanding!! If you are used to Fast Food Chinese, this is not that. It is fast food, however the quality is more like what you would have served at a Chinese restaurant. This is now my go to" place in this area for any clients. Thank you so much Tin. First things first. I usually don't patronize places with the word "express" in their name. I don't seek out fastness in life in general, and I definitely don't seek it in my food. But this was introduced to me by a local for a particular item, and I used it for that for many years. But during this Shelter in Place, I found myself placing more and more take out orders, so I gave them more of a whirl. So the place is a tiny hole-in-the-wall, that actually got new owners within the last couple of years. The seating area is a lot nicer than it used to be, that I even ate inside once. There is an element of style now. But for the majority that go here, it is Americanized steam table Chinese food. If you love them plate combos for $6-$7 bucks and you just point at what's gonna go in your 3-4 compartment plate, this place will do you fine. But for me, I never get anything from that steam table. I always order a la carte from another menu. Fried Garlic/Jalapeno Chicken Wings (4*) This is my anchor dish here that kept me coming back, even after the ownership change. Nice battered wings has the most crispiest crunch without it being overboard. It is sprinkled with a little garlic that will waft through the to-go container, and is also topped with sliced fried jalapenos. Addictingly salty as well. When I get a fried chicken craving, I'll often settle it here. Hot & Sour Soup (4.5*) This is my other go-to dish here. Always consistent with good fillings of tofu, bamboo shoots and black fungus. Sometimes I add more cayenne pepper at home to give it more kick, but I actually find their balance of hot to sour, to be on point. Shrimp Egg Fu Yung (3.5*) This dish screams 60s-70s American-Chinese food to me. My friend got me to try it once, and I gotta say, I didn't dislike it. It is a huge egg fritter stuffed with meat of choice, bean sprouts, water chestnuts and scallions. It is pretty dense and filling. I think they put a little too much starch in there, as it is more cake-y than it is omelette-y, if that makes any sense, haha. But I do like the balance of veggies and protein all in one patty. And the strange brown corn starchy sauce served along, actually complements it, mostly a soft soy sauce flavor, but very clingy. Black Mushroom w/ Veggies (3.5*) Tried this recently and it was okay. Yes, there are some nice sliced, very meaty black mushrooms, which I love. Okay there was "some" veggies, sliced zucchini and maybe carrot. But the rest of the dish, and I'm talking like the other 80% of the dish is fried cubed tofu. If something is in that proportion of a dish, shouldn't it be in the name? Haha. It's a good thing I like fried tofu, but I just didn't see that much coming, if at all, from the menu name. Beef Chow Fun (3*) Edible and passable, but not special. First it was extremely light in color. But the wok flavor was there, but just not as dark as I'm used to. Even the beef was super light in color. But the noodles were chewy, beef tender and bean sprouts crunchy, so not a complete loss at all. Shrimp Mu Shu (4*) I called this in once without looking at the menu, and found out that it isn't really on their menu. But without trouble or hesitation, they made it for me. So props to that! I don't really wrap the filling in the wrapper so much, but I just enjoy the crunch from the veggies along with a little protein. And they most certainly executed on that note. Dishes range from $9 - $14 a la carte. 3 dishes will almost hit the $40 mark. But it will feed 4 peeps with plenty of left overs. Or 6 peeps with little leftovers. So the value is there for me. So not the kind of Chinese food I gravitate towards to these days, only because Chinese food in my area has gotten more specialized and/or more regional. But I'm definitely keeping them in my back pocket, especially for bigger meals for people who actually prefer the Americanized version, aka my family. 3.75* rounding up. read more

I don't like being critical. Maybe it was an off night. The chow mein was kind of gummy. Good flavor otherwise. The squid with jalapeño and garlic had barely any of either and no seasoning to it. Very bland with thick batter. The shrimp rolls were fine but not what I expected, it was just shrimp in a spring roll wrapper. Went here for the first time for takeout. You order online and tell them the time for pick up. Easy to navigate. Parking was easy too. This place is behind the Taco Bell and catty corner from an Irish sports bar. Very unassuming place but very clean! Our order was ready and waiting but they had not closed up the containers so the food wouldn't steam. (Nice touch and shows attention to detail). Then they packed it up very carefully and properly. The food was rocket hot even after a 10 min car ride home! Their portions are generous! We ordered 5 different items (3 entrees, 1 side and 1 appetizer) and there is enough to feed both of use for 4 meals and we are big eaters! Everything was tasty and fresh- not oily and well balanced. Update; They changed the decorations and it looks cleaner than before. Modern Asian style if you will. Anyway, I've been trying their items on the menu and I suggested you try the mapo tofu with rice or the egg fu yung with rice. The mapo tofu is sweet and they give you a huge portion. The egg fu yung is veges scrambled with meat and egg and then dressed with a sweet sauce. It tastes amazing. Both can cover two meals for me. read more

I have been coming to Asia Express for as long as I can remember, and it's one of the few places that's food hasn't gone downhill over the years. One of my favorites is their hot and sour soup with beef, but you can get it with pork or shrimp, or nothing. My mom's favorite is their War Won Ton soup. I've probably tried most things on their menu by now. Their ribs are also pretty good and tender. The prices are extremely reasonable. I got 3 items for just over $40. And it was A LOT of food. Probably enough for 3-4 people. The owners are very sweet and friendly, and will try to accommodate you as much as possible with your requests. I'm in between a 3.5/4. Gave 4 bc service was super friendly and I would for sure return and just order something different. Hot n Sour Soup: 4/5 Same consistency I've had at other restaurants and same great flavor. Just would prefer it hotter (temperature wise). It came with a 2 entree plate to go but I was actually wanting a large cup but it comes with like a 4 oz size. Shrimp Fried Rice 5/5 GREAT with an abundance of large shrimp; greasy though, I like it this way, so if you don't like your fries rice greasy this may not be the spot for you. Super flavorful and huge portions. 2 entree plate 2/5 The combo plates can be made by a selection of meats and sides. Set up is very similar to Panda Express with how it's on display and the types of entrees offeres I got the spicy orange chicken I think it was and the string bean chicken. Again very generous portions, I chose fried rice as the noodles weren't too appealing for me. The chicken tasted stale/not fresh and there was a lot of breading. The fried rice is veggie and greasy like I like. The string bean chicken was good though with zucchini and string bean veggies present. I would select a different entree for sure and definitely try the other items on the menu. They accept card and likely apple pay as their POS was an IPAD.
