The Good: The food was good! Tasty fried rice and nice, crispy Sweet and Sour chicken, I was well satisfied (the fried rice was quite tasty). The Bad: The service was very... curt. Not unprofessional, but lacking any warmth, there's no invitation to return or interact with the staff. The Ugly: The doors are about to fall off and half the dining room is poorly screened off with piled up stuff. I hope it's to remodel, and give the excellent chefs a chance to serve more customers! Back when we lived in Indiana, we had a go-to Chinese takeout, delivery and dined in the restaurant. It was close to our house, and the food was always good, not great but good. We struggled for many years to find a right combination of price, convenience, and quality moving to Maryland. 1. We love a couple of places near the Kentlands, but they are more sit down expensive places. 2. We do not like a couple of the places in our area; they just aren't good. Last night we decided to try Asia Cafe. 1. They have my favorite Malaysia style curry. I spent a lot of time in Malaysia and Thailand, and that curry is my fav! 2. Egg Rolls were OK overall not great. The rest of the crew enjoyed their food. Their fried rice was very good. Overall a good solid place. The real test will be when we try them again! read more

My husband is a self-professed Kung Pao chicken expert and Asia Cafe's version passes his test. I enjoy the Sesame Beef and it's usually what I end up ordering most of the time. The Szechuan String Bean and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce are both good too. Tried the Malaysian Curry once and it was bland for my taste. Overall good place with fast and friendly service. We took our annual visit to Asia Cafe after a movie on Christmas Day with a large group. On a positive note, the food was still very good. On a not so good note, the service was very unfriendly. No smiles. Didn't make sure to get all the way around the table. One person didn't get his order taken and had to chase the server down which wasn't easy because they were only two people busy with Xmas Day takeout orders. But the worst part is that they were using paper and plastic products! No real dishes. Even for servings. So imagine passing around a saucy plate of Chinese foot in a plastic plate. It was a mess. Water was in small plastic drinking bottles. Cheap plastic forks and spoons in plastic wrap. Chinese tea in styrofoam cups. You couldn't be more environmentally unfriendly. Perhaps the dishwasher was out sick? Or maybe this is all the time? We wouldn't know because no communication or explanation. That's the last year we'll be going there. I've lived in Germantown for most of my life and have ordered from Asia Cafe dozens of times. A review is very much overdue! I see a post on here for this year that does not at all reflect the excellent service my family and I have received from this restaurant for the past several years. The staff is friendly, the food is fresh and prepared with care, and from time to time, the staff GIFTS us some soda, fried rice, egg rolls, or even Chinese donuts. Now that's dedication! If you're craving some good Americanized AND authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go in Germantown! I highly recommend the Orange Shrimp from their normal menu and the Mapo Tofu which is from their authentic menu -- never disappoints! read more

I placed an online order for Shrimp Egg Rolls, Seasame Chicken w/White rice, and Shrimp w/Snap Peas add extra Shrimp. The online menu did not indicate how much it would cost for extra shrimp so I placed the request in the comment section. When I got to the restaurant to pick up the order, the young lady working the counter indicated it was a $3.00 charge for extra shrimp which was fine. I just happen to look at the menu and saw it indicated extra meat was $2.00 which to me that would include shrimp since it was not shown anywhere else on the menu. I had not eaten all day so I do admit I should have checked the order. When we I got home, my husband opened his container of what was suppose to be "Sesame Chicken". It was Orange chicken and my husband does not like orange chicken! When I opened my container of shrimp with snap peas, it has carrots, broccoli, and onions in addition to the snap peas. I ordered Kung Pao Shrimp and not only was it exactly what I was hoping for, the portions were bigger than I thought, and the shrimp were a good size, not the tiny prawns you get at other spots. Recently we found several very good dishes here at Asia cafe: kongbao chicken, spicy three pepper chicken, biFengTang jumbo shrimp(really tasty), and Malaysia pineapple fried rice. The wild-mountain pepper shredded beef is also an authentic Sichuan dish and is very flavorful and tender, just make sure to double check that the main Sichuan chef is in before you order. The owner is very nice and warm. She comes to chat with us every time to make sure we're happy with the food. She enhanced the menu based on our suggestions actually. My favorite place to eat by far. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is well prepared and full of flavor. When I went in to pick up my order with my recently broken arm in a sling, Amy insisted on carrying my order back to the car for me. I've had 3 friends come visit from different states, and I always make sure to get Asia Café for them at least once. All three have said it was the best Chinese food they ever tasted. When placing the call to advise part of my order is incorrect, I'm met with "it's been awhile since you picked up your order" (23 mins to be exact). The AC worker continued to speak in a defensive tone, "you're wrong not us". Even with my receipt confirming my side. My first time here was yesterday. Unless something unique jumps out at me, I usually order Gen. Tso's chicken the first time I eat any any Chinese restaurant. It's my personal measurement of what to expect. The Gen. Tso's chicken lunch special was quite good, especially the sauce. Small chunks of chicken were coated and fried, producing a delicious and very crunchy meal. With steamed rice and hot and sour soup, it was only $7.25!!! What a deal. There seem to be loads of lunch specials, even squid. I was impressed, and am going to come back soon to try some of the others. I think this is a very good restaurant. Spacious and clean. My family loves "Crispy Beef, Szechuan Style". We used to order it all the time from Peking Palace/Asia Cafe. Our first time back in about 4 months and the crispy beef was a soggy mess. Not crispy at all and loaded with sauce. Not even spicy like it used to be. Don't know if management changed or new chefs or what but this is not at all what we got in the past. Sorry to say it looks like we will be on the lookout for a new restaurant that can get the crispy beef right. An update to this review: At the time I ordered the Crispy Beef, I also ordered 2 large Hot & Sour Soups. The soup was even more disappointing than the soggy crispy beef. Nothing sweey & sour about it. Mostly a thickened broth loaded with whole mushrooms and a few pieces of tofu. It came with 2 small bags of fried wonton strips that tasted old and stale. I even tried toasting the strips in the oven to no avail. Shame, Shame, Shame!! I don't know who the chef it but he/she should be fired. The downturn in taste and quality at what used to be a pretty good restaurant is just sad. Seems like the management at the restaurant is trying to cut corners by serving inferior food while keeping prices up. Once again - SHAME!!! My husband told me I should have taken it all back. There were not a lot of ppl but the service was not that fast..but i had time to kill. The lady at the counter was pretty friendly. I got some roti canai (vegetarian) and yhe singapore noodles with egg. The roti was quite soft and the curry was tasty but a little watery with two peices of hardly cooked potatoes. The noodles were pretty good given that most places skimp kn the veges or dont really prepare a tasty singapore noodles. It had a good amount of (fresh) veges and egg a nice spicy flavor. I have been to so many Asian style restaurants in the Germantown area, but this one is the absolute best!!!!! You are not going to want to sleep on this one! The food is made fresh and is very flavorful! The employees there are over the top sweet and kind. Every time we order food to go, they have included a freebie. Usually it's a soft dink and once they doubled our Lo Mein, just because. I love for food to be extra spicy and if you ask for it that way, they will definitely hook it up. It's never greasy! I guess not too many people come here because it's at a relatively small strip shopping center hidden from the main intersections, seems like you have to go out of your way to find it. The dining area is relatively clean though there are 3-4 tables. The lady who takes the orders is pretty nice. I've been there a few times. No surprises, no thrills, you'll get your typical beef and broccoli with rice. Hot tea, sauces, and plastic utensils are provided on the counter. I usually come for the Singapore noodles, which is flavorable and spicy. The only complaint is that they only accept credit card payment for over $10 charge. read more
