After installing a customized swingset, my wife and I felt that a treehouse should be next on our list. Because of Covid-19 the parks and playground have been closed for nearly 6 months, therefore having a dedicated play area at my home made sense. Upon looking online for an actual playhouse with a slide, many were pretty pricy and the labor to install them were a few hundred dollars. After looking at a Google images for DIY treehouses I decided to ask for qoutes through Yelp messenger along with pictures. Here is what I found out about Gary: 1) Communication: Gary was first to respond to my request for an estimate through Yelp and asked many clear follow up questions to ensure accuracy of my project. We also continued to follow up via text message and began the process on finalizing what I liked built along with providing me with a cost analysis and a timeline of completion. He was also confident in creating my treehouse even though it was a custom made project. Most of the responses I got from other companies were hesitant to do the job or were qouting me an unrealistic amount. 2) Customer Service: He is was on time, amicable, professional and also respectful. There were times when things didn't go according to plan but Gary was patience and was able to adjust and adapt to our needs. He did what he could to make his customers happy. 3) Price: The price was very competitive, reasonable and fair. He finished my project in 2 days with 3 of his workers who worked very diligently. 4) Workmanship: The tree.house seriously came out much better than expected. It's hard to give someone and idea through pictures and expect them to emulate what you want. Gary and his team fulfilled that through diligence and making sure everything was completed with accuracy. By the way they worked on this for 7 hours in a 100 degree weather. Much respect to them. They also cleaned up after themselves 5) Treehouse:: He came Day 1 to dig 4 post and added concrete. Day 2 he came out to construct my treehouse. The treehouse was 6x6 that included a deck 5 feet off the ground. There was a custom ladder, 3 foot railings, roof, and a sandbox. Lastly, it wood was stained in Sequoia colored paint to protect the wood from water. 6) Recommendation: Highly recommended for all jobs around the house. Feel free to message him through Yelp for your next project!

We bought the reclaimed oak and Gary put them up as shelves perfectly.

    Replacing Kitchen Light Fixture

Gary Came through again. This time he installed our Ring Flood Light/Camera, 2 Ring Side Cameras, replaced kitchen Light Fixture, and replace 2 Bathroom Exhaust Fans. All done within a couple hours.

Gary came down to fix our access door to our attic, which was cracked and was letting in cold or hot air from the attic. We scheduled a date for him to come, and he was here on time. Gary got everything he needed and completed the job quickly.

    Wood ramp 6' 7" slope
    Ian T.

My mom had fallen twice in the back yard so we needed a ramp. There's a 6' 7" slope which is fine, these carpenters worked with the layout of the backyard patio in-order to make it work. The floor is made of plywood and was painted with a paint that will grip making it less likely to slip. They definitely had the most competitive price.

Ground outlet with upper outlet leading to on/off switch

Where do I begin? Gary and Jim were very professional when they came out for their initial estimate viewing of what I wanted done. I wanted an old wire from a shed that was torn down, turned into an outlet/light area for the new outside area we had built. My plan was just to have something electrical and weatherproof but it didn't dawn on me to put a switch as well, in which Gary suggested. They came out about a week later (today) to come do the job and they were done in less than 2 hours and was impressed by how clean and fast they did their job. I would definitely call these guys again for my electrical or handyman needs.

Gary Ashby removing the old high ceiling chandelier from on top of the scaffolding.

Very professional! So far I've had Mr. Ashby's help with two projects. He responded to my Yelp messages in a timely manner, scheduled a visit shortly after, and offered very reasonable prices. First, he helped remove the old alarm system in my house. The alarm system company was no help when it started going off at midnight. Gary quickly removed the system and gave me advice on how to replace the smoke alarms. On the spot he offered a quote for re-wiring the location that previously held the control panel to instead serve as a clock socket. I declined and he didn't push the sale. That's exactly the professional behavior that will keep me coming back to Mr. Ashby. Second, he changed my chandeliers (pictures included). The price he originally quoted for the high celling chandelier had to be updated when he determined he needed to rent a scaffolding. Still, the price was reasonable, and I agreed. Mr. Ashby and his assistant, Jim, quickly and safely constructed the scaffolding and installed the new chandelier. They were both very positive throughout the visit, letting me know what they were doing and why. Good prices, great service; will definitely call on Mr. Ashby again.

The worked on our home during March but then finished in August due to some of the city shutdowns. At first, there were some minor issues, such as their new hires trying to avoid installing an outlet for a security camera (it was in the attic so the camera could be outdoors above the main entrance). After everything, we noticed that several mistakes were made, such as the two switches at the front were both connected to the outdoor lights, making the separate functions for the living room light and the outdoor lights pointless. We had to always leave the switches on and then find a light that could work with additional device switches. There was also an issue like this on one of the switches in the kichen, where we don't have separate control over the two different floodlights in the backyard and driveway. Annoying, but we dealt with it because we knew Marco had some new hires during the pandemic and things were just chaotic at the time. I am coming back after 6 years to leave this review because a couple of years ago, we noticed our lights would flicker. It has become worse and is now at the point where we cannot run power tools for working in our garage. We have had to request two second opinions on the electrical work to see what is going on, and both have shown that Marco's rewire was not what we paid for nor was it done well. Some of the electrical wiring was not replaced when we were charged $4500 for replacing all the wiring (we did all the patching on the walls and along with some additional outlets, which saved some money, and the full price was $4800). Marco and the guys he hired also left some of the kitchen wiring in tact that should have been replaced (even though it wasn't knob and tube, it was around 20-30 years old, and I had specifically requested for everything to be new given the poor state of the home from the previous owner who rented it out). The second opinions are certain that most of the wiring they can see in the panel and in the attic are much older than 6 years. We have also identfied the main problem as being with how the rewire was done. Far too many wires were bound together and distributed unevenly into the electrical box. Over several years, the wires are generating too much heat due to the poor techinque of how so many wires were bundled together and run to the same sections of the electrical panel. We are facing another expensive bill of thousands of dollars to make sure our home does not have fire risk and that we can run basic tools and appliances without any issues. The fact that he and his guys did not take a woman homeowner seriously from the start with some of the smaller things should have been enough of a red flag to fire them before they caused the damage they have. My husband mostly worked with them to try to get them to listen to us, but in the end, their work was shoddy and as family, friends, and consultants have explained to us, their sloppy work is the type that won't have issues until late enough that most people won't realize it was their fault. What a scam. And now that I see on other Yelp reviews that Marco sold the company, I wonder why he sold it. If Marco is still out there doing work, I'd avoid him just as much as it seems everyone should avoid Trout or the new buyers.
