It is by chance that I ended up having a routine vision screening at this office and I consider it a lucky chance. I had made an appointment a week out at a different office in the area that had to cancel on me last minute. I found Ashburn Vision Source in my insurance directory (VSP), called them up, and they were able to get me in the same day. The entire staff of this office made me feel welcome, calm, and at home. I arrived a few minutes early to fill out some paperwork and Allison took me back for some of the basic exams (depth perception, color blindness, etc.) right on time. After that was completed, she and a new office assistant who was shadowing her helped me sort through the different frames that were available for my potential new glasses. They were both very sweet and made that task fun. I met with Dr. Hinkle for the medical evaluation. He has a very calm, comforting demeanor and explains everything that is happening during the exam and why it is important. He also took the time to explain his findings regarding my eyesight. He asked me to make a short follow-up appointment so that he could double check my eye pressure, since I couldn't keep from blinking during the standard test (where they blow a puff of air onto your eyeball). It really seems like he cares about patients' overall "eye health," rather than just churning patients through. I wish that I could find that in a primary care doctor, too. I ordered a new pair of glasses with my new prescription, they arrived within 1 week, and a friendly member of the office staff called me right away to let me know they were in. Definitely a step up from some of my previous experiences with the "shopping mall" eye exams in the past. I highly recommend their services. read more

I am a huge fan of this place. Everyone in the office is super friendly! I love it there. The selection of glasses was small, but the one on one attention from the staff to help me find the perfect glasses was irreplaceable! Add on: 5 stars plus 5 stars! I am so glad that I finally have a good eye doctor in Ashburn. For the past ten years, literally, I have been bouncing from Dr. to Dr. trying to find a good fit and a practice that I liked. I am thrilled to have found Dr. Hinkle. I am staying there until the kick me out. I love that I don't feel like I am in an assembly line there. I am not just another patient. Dr. Hinkle took a lot of time to talk to me, and understand my problem. He was able to fix a problem that I have had for YEARS. I can now both read and see far while wearing contacts. My wife had asked me to go to Ashburn Vision Source. She had been a patient there for some time now and was really happy with their services. And I was not disappointed either. The staff was very friendly, courteous and professional. Although I had arrived 10 minutes late (I thought I was arriving 5 minutes earlier, but I was wrong), they were quick to get me registered and took me back immediately. The medical assistance and the doctor were very nice informative, and took their time to explain what was going on throughout the appointment. The staff knew the benefits very well and were able to explain everything. They took their time, answered any and all questions that I had (some were kind of stupid - at least that's what my wife told me), and were very pleasant!! The only thing I can't comment on is their selection of glass frames. I did not have the time to check out the variety they offered, but looking forward to doing that next week. I scheduled my appointment easily as they have extended hours which worked around my schedule. Dr. Boyles was thorough and professional as was the entire staff. Overall I was happy and would recommend Ashburn Vision Source. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because it took me 5 weeks to get my glasses when I was expecting them in 2 weeks. I called the office after 2 weeks had passed and they then realized that the frames were on backorder. They really should have figured this out sooner. My husband and I have been long time patients of Dr Hinkle. In fact I think we were one of the first patients when this office opened back in the early 2000s. Since then we've moved several times within the NoVa area, but no matter where we end up we keep coming back. Why? You will not find better personal care for your eyes anywhere else. Dr Hinkle is a rare breed of doctors who truly puts his patients first. Aside from being very knowledgeable, he takes his time and explains everything that's going on during the visit. He has a gentle, patient, and engaging demeanor with all but especially with young kids. My daughter raved at her last appointment and says she now wants to be an optometrist. I went in to see Dr Howell because my eye was sore and hurting. They ended up doing an eye exam and fortunately for me nothing was found to be of major concern. I was given new contact lenses that were trials and my prescription for them was lowered. Dr. Howell was professional, courteous, very helpful and took care of my problem. My eye stopped hurting the next day. I was happy to see that she did not have to run unnecessary tests or give me unnecessary medication. One star less for limited number of options for frames - they had an okay collection/option, but nothing great. We've been using Ashburn Vision Source for over 15 years, and have always had an incredible experience. In this specific visit I waited at most two minutes for the initial check-in and for seeing the optometrist. I was concerned about a somewhat recent drop in my vision, but the optometrist was able to put me at ease and just explained that my eyesight is just adjusting over time. At the end of the appointment we ended up deciding I didn't really even need contacts or glasses. There was no pressure to purchase glasses through them, and I was given the prescription if I wanted to order on my own without having to request it. The staff are all incredibly attentive and friendly, and we'd recommend anyone come for their check-ups. read more

They are also very organized and on top of things around the office. It was SO WONDERFUL to not sit around waiting. There is also no pushiness surrounding sales of glasses. The office itself has been recently remodeled and had some new equipment I had never seen. Which reminds me: NO AWFUL AIR PUFF MACHINE (tonometer, I believe they are technically called). AVS has a machine (handheld) that does not blow into your eye - it actually feels like someone is tickling your eyelashes. I have been under Dr. Chen's care for about two years. She is great and so is the staff. When we moved to northern VA in 2014, I went to another practitioner, but I was not happy with the care (not very thorough) and the staff were not at all helpful regarding my insurance. I was hesitant to seek out yet another new optometrist, but I tried Ashburn Vision Source and have been very happy. I have referred both of my adult daughters to the office. While I have been a glasses/contact lens patient of Dr. Chen, I developed a couple of other eye conditions which she has been treating and monitoring. I feel that she is very thorough and explains things very well. The staff members are also friendly and helpful, regarding the products as well as dealing with my insurance company. The only downside is that I think that their products (glasses/contacts) are a bit more expensive than some other places. But the service is excellent. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Hinkle for several years and it's always a great experience. I wear contacts and when I first went to Dr. Hinkle I explained that I was having trouble with my contacts moving around in my eyes too much. I have terrible vision and astigmatism so we went through several different trial lenses until we got the perfect lens. And lucky me, they are a lot less expensive than the brand/type I had before. After my annual exam, my contacts orders are always ready for pickup in just a week. You can tell that he really cares about your overall health and eye health in addition to getting you the best and most accurate prescription.
