The worst sewer company if ever dealt with in the 20 years I been in the real estate business. 1st Tom says I will be there tomorrow morning (fri) then he says oh I can't make it, I'll be there on Sat, ok no problem. He came on sat with no truck and no tools, just "to look at it", and not rod the clean out. If he would have told me I would have called another company as in Chicago they come a dime a dozen. Then he left and said, I will come back 2 days later on Monday morning, ok monday morning after a few texts he says. I'll be there on Tuesday, which really means Thursday. Now I know $500 is a lot for a rod out but I agreed because it was a weekend and didn't want to call anyone else, the standard price is $175. But I realized they broke my clean out cap and wanted to add a $500 fee to fix it. Smh Stay away. He also said he had 8 trucks on the street, lol. Ok. He is practical and understands low budget repairs, but will point out long term issues to ensure that the owner is comfortable with decisions. We bought an old poorly rehabbed bungalow and immediately had a lot of problems with our basement (sewer back-up, water intrusion, bad sewer gas smell, etc). My husband did a lot of research and had quite a few estimates to address these frustrating issues. Tom from ASAP proposed the best flood control system at a reasonable price. We were happy with his attention to detail and expertise and felt comfortable hiring him for the rest of our plumbing needs. Tom completed smaller projects for us as well- water heater replacement and damaged floor drain repair, which really improved the air quality in our home (no more sewer stink!). Tom also installed an indoor drain tile system for us, which was a huge job, as we have an 800 sq ft basement. Other companies (we had 4 total estimates) charged extra for demo, required that we hire our own electrician and wanted to bust through the finished bathroom. We didn't have to worry about any of this with ASAP- everything was included. Tom and his crew took the extra time and effort to keep demo to a minimum and dug under the structures we wanted to preserve (bathroom, stairs). Tom takes care of his customers like they are family and makes sure that you are happy with his work. When Tom does a job, you can be sure it is done right. Communication was great, he's a personable and good natured guy. His core crew is exceptional- very courteous, polite and hardworking young men. When it comes to old houses with bad plumbing, problems will always arise. You want the guy who will do what it takes to make it right. This crew does not cut corners. read more

Tom responded to my email in Yelp, and came to help my parents' nearly flooded bathroom in Austin neighborhood. He didn't actually do the job for us, but his enforcing attitude to call (1) the property manager, and the building plumber to act on the problem that my 80-year old parents were having, in which the building almost tried to neglect to help. His tenacity to speak to the right parties helped us in getting the issues resolved and getting attention from property manager. Tom was great. I hopefully don't need his services again, but if that happens in the future, I will not hesitate to call him. read more

I asked for a quote, and out of the 10 places I've asked, the owner (Tom S.) provided me with the most expensive quote that I've received so far. To be fair, he quoted Rheem vs. Bradford White, and I realize there is a price difference so I wanted to ask a follow up question. I told the owner that I saw a great deal on angie's list for a 50 gallon bradford white and whether he thinks I should just jump on that deal or if there are potentially many other fees and I'm not comparing apples to apples... He replied with "Thats your choice buying on Ebay.... We stand by our install and that includes all parts pick up and removal from property .We fo 100's a year !" Essentially, his reply was complete nonsense. Angie's list has nothing to do with Ebay and I'm not sure how much I need a water heater provider to "stand by" their generic product that takes 60 minutes to connect.. hmmm... and is being around for 100 years a really great trait? I used to be a property manager, managed many buildings and thousands of units, yes thousands. Over the years I've dealt with many contractors, and plumbers being one of the most often called. I also know my way around building systems, and have had my share of guys talk to you as if you should be off baking cookies, no insult meant to men who like to bake cookies. Baking cookies is fun, everyone should do it :) Then there's Tom, a straight forward professional that knows plumbing, he also knows how to treat a customer. Many times people will ask me for recommendations, if it is for a plumber he's the first one I think of. After all, I needed to call a plumber today and I called Tom. Tom came out (twice!) to fix two different problems at my apartment. He's extremely responsive both on yelp and over the phone. Importantly, he came on time, and called to let me know when he was on his way. He was also able to schedule a time to come out the day after or two days after I called. He offered advice about replacement parts and future maintenance I could do to avoid problems in the future. (Tom, if you're reading this I already replaced both valves!) Tom is an excellent plumber and very nice guy. We moved in to our house on Saturday and Sunday evening I noticed water running down the basement wall. After cutting a hole in the wall and discovering a large pipe I decided to call Tom based on the reviews here. I called him at 7:30 in the morning, and he came over at 8:15, much faster than I was even hoping for. He discovered a completely clogged offset waste pipe. He unclogged it and put in a new cast iron plug. Tom was great. He explained everything he was doing and taking the time to answer all my questions. While he was there he explained some of the hookups that were a little goofy on my water heater. He showed me some other "interesting" plumbing features in the basement. He checked out a broken shower upstairs and recommended what needed to be done. I plan on having him out in the spring to scope the sewer line and check the catch basin (he said it looked pretty good at the moment.) He is extremely professional and very personable. ASAP Plumbing did not actually do my plumbing work but Tom S. still deserves a five-star review from me because it is solely due to him that I had my complicated plumbing problem solved at a fraction of the cost I anticipated. I needed a plumber to repair the consequences of a very badly botched bathroom renovation. The plumber I had arranged to do the work cancelled on me because a larger client had an emergency. ASAP had too much going on to accept the project, but Tom connected me with an associate. Volodymyr took care of the bathroom plumbing, fixed my kitchen sink, and also reconnected my dishwasher which had been done improperly, all in a very painstaking fashion and for a quarter of what the other plumber wanted to charge me for the bathroom alone. So the cancellation turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I am very appreciate to Tom for taking the time out to give me a hand and connecting me with a great plumber. read more

I am so impressed with ASAP Plumbing and its owner Tom. He has been out to look at two different plumbing jobs for me in the past week, and I haven't been charged a dime yet! Today he looked at my hose bib in the front of my home which was frozen and turned it one, and showed me how to manage it while I am waiting for him to come back and completely repair it. While here he noticed that my flood control back up battery system needed batteries and he has ordered them for me. I contacted ASAP Plumbing /Tom for a 2nd opinion and a 2nd video estimate regarding tree roots getting into my sewer system. This is all preventive - as I have never had any flooding in my basement and am planning to keep it that way. Needless to say, he got the job. I had Tom come by in the summer to take a look at our tenant's kitchen sink leak. He initially stated we would need to replace the entire sink but after a closer inspection found the issue to be something very minimal which he ended up fixing. He didn't charge anything for coming out or doing the work. My wife and I also recently contacted him about our own kitchen sink having an issue with no water coming out (most likely frozen pipes due to the weather). He provided us with guidance over the phone on what to do ourselves to try and mitigate the issue. There are very few people out there who are as helpful as him, that too with no interest in attempting to make a buck out of every situation. I highly recommend ASAP for plumbing issues! read more

Tom has been doing plumbing jobs for me for a long time. Every time I call, I get prompt responses, reasonable prices and thorough work. He has done sewer work, put in a flood control, cleaned a sump pump, repaired a sink for me and my elderly parents for very reasonable prices. But it's not the reasonable prices that keep me as a loyal customer. It's that I know I can trust him to do the job right and not cut corners or rake me over the coals for unnecessary expenses. That alone is worth its weight in gold!!! I highly recommend him and his crew, who are conscientious and leave the work site clean as a whistle (I am very fussy about that!!) Our basement started backing up, so I went to our trusty Yelp site to find someone to look at it. Tom came out within a couple hours, evaluated the problem (our sewer line needed rodding), and did the work the same day, for the best price quoted. In his examination of the problem, we also discovered some serious issues in our catch basin, so I had Tom come back to work on that. He and his guys rebuilt the basin and cleaned it thoroughly, and it looks brand new now. He also goes above and beyond in all respects-- he happily patched a couple random cracks in the basement just because he had some extra cement and he figured "why waste it?" The best recommendation for Tom is how he interacts with customers and his workers. He's always polite, and explains everything he's doing and why, to you if you're looking to learn, and to his guys, who are learning their trade. He's patient and respectful at all times, even while he corrects any mistakes (both from his workers and flaws in a customer's house, or work). Our basement had flooded and I was looking on the Internet and found Tom Schmidt from ASAP plumbing. Tom was super responsive and went to work immediately. We had 6 inches of water in the basement and found out that the tree roots had impacted our sewer lines. The bad news was we needed a flood control system to stop the water from flooding the basement for all of these years. The good news is we found Tom and he is truly an expert. He and his guys did a outstanding job and after 10 days of digging and construction the job was finished on time and on budget. They were so neat that you never would've even though they were there. Not only did he return the call within the 30 min, he arrived to assess the damage within the hour. He patiently explained what the fix would be, why he recommended it, his hourly rate, the cost for materials and his estimated time to repair. The work was performed in a very professional, expeditious and amiable manner. Tom Schmidt, owner of ASAP Plumbing &Sewer, " is the man". He knows what he is talking about, he's professional, honest, responsive, reliable and his work is excellent. He personally supervises all work and keeps you informed throughout the project. He installed a flood control system in my building and mid-project, unrelated to the work he was performing, the previously leaking buffalo box finally collapsed which involved working and coordinating with The Chicago Water Department. This development added a time-consuming complexity to the job. He did not abandon us and kept us informed in a timely fashion. I needed a plumber to repair a stopped up sewer line at my in-law's house in Jefferson Park. I saw ASAP and Tom's reviews on Yelp and decided to give him a call. First off, Tom seems to answer all calls personally when he is able, which to me displays his strong customer service focus. He was very nice, straight forward, and professional. He put my in-law's on the schedule for the following day. He called me on the way with an ETA. When he arrived he called me again and diagnosed the problem while on the phone and informed me of the scope and potential cost of the work. He completed the sewer rodding within an hour or so and called me to say the work had been completed. And he even fixed an extremely low flow bathroom faucet, which I had mentioned to him as an aside...seemingly at no additional cost. He charged less than he had originally quoted which was a very pleasant surprise, and it was also a very reasonable price for the work he performed. My in-laws were very happy with Tom and his service and he treated them with the utmost respect. He definitely went way above and beyond many other contractors with whom I've dealt.
