The plating was amazing and everything they served was beautiful as well. The service, atmosphere, and experience of this place were all fantastic, but unfortunately, I didn't like the food as much as other Michelin starred restaurants. I thought that some of the dishes were under-seasoned, and other dishes had interesting flavors combination that I didn't quite enjoy. I loved the spicy whole fish - you can choose the type of spice, as well as add on a variety of optional ingredients (e.g. Vegetables, tofu) to add to the fish as a sort of side, cooking in the flavorful sauce that comes with it. The fish comes in a huge metal tray with a fire lit under, so it is kept constantly steaming, and is so flavorful and juicy. The Peking duck was also solid. Besides those main dishes, we also ordered a variety of smaller dishes like skewers, vegetables to round out the meal. The place overall felt super hip, with a ton of young people, and I would recommend making a reservation to avoid the long long wait that seems to inevitably come with restaurants HKers collectively decide are trendy. It was really no better than any other roasted pork we found at random restaurants all over HK. The crispy cheong fan noodles were a bit greasy but flavorful and different. Let's talk about pricing. We went on a Sunday night and we booked early so we did not have a minimum spend. But it seems any bookings now have an 800HKD/pp minimum. They slap a 10% service charge on everything and they basically require you to buy an 88HKD bottle of water. Sorry, they're just not that good.

I visited The Dining Room not knowing anything about it. I stumbled across it after seeing a promotion in front for a duck breast with glass noodles special. After entering the restaurant, I noticed a nice dining room that would not seem out of place in Seattle. It has the farm to table restaurant look. The restaurant has an excellent view of the Causeway Bay area. I would recommend getting a table by the windows if you can. Like a child, the menu at The Dining Room is very playful. I was amazed by the plentiful menu options. There are the obvious favorites like xiaolongbao and shengjianbao. But also less typical items, particularly in the desserts section. Some are not even Chinese. Recall there being a Japanese marshmallow dessert on the menu. Tried four things. The aforementioned duck breast with glass noodles, organic Chinese greens (don't know the actual name), an order of shengjianbao and a Jasmine pudding. The duck breast with glass noodles is more of an appetizer. It was delicious, though beware that it is a bit spicy. The Chinese greens which were boiled was a nice veggie option. I have never had them before. It seemed like a cross between lettuce and choy sum. The shengjianbao were as expected tasty. Like xiaolongbao, there is a little soup inside. One order has four pieces which is great since it allows you to order other things. The smaller dish sizes is one nice advantage that The Dining Room has over DTF. Lastly, the jasmine pudding was a nice meal ender. It is creamy and not too sweet. Has a yogurt like consistency. The only thing was that they served the pudding along with the other items. I would have preferred if they waited till I was done with the other dishes first. But that would have meant ordering it later. The food here is reasonably priced, especially given the location. It was a little over $20 USD for lunch even after the 10% service surcharge, which is still less than I would pay at DTF in the Seattle area.
