My friend suggested this place as she saw an online article for afternoon tea for two for HKD88…read more(about USD11). That's a great price, and I figure if even the food is awful, it's still not much more than two drinks. As others said, this place is somewhat a hidden gem. Its entrance is a narrow commercial building entrance on Nathan Road, right by Hillwood Road, closer to Jordan than TST. Located on the second floor, the big windows look out to verdant shades, totally blocking out the hustle and bustle outside. The price of afternoon tea has increased, but at HKD128, still a fair price if no longer a steal. We ordered flavored fresh-squeezed lemonades (or you can choose tea, coffee or soda), and our food arrived on a wooden board: two hamburger sliders, two salmon croissants, bacon wrapped asparagus, mac & cheese, BBQ fries and brownies. All is quite tasty except for the mac & cheese, which I find really bland. Applegreen bills itself as offering Californian cuisine. Their menu has lots of salad, and pasta ranging from carbonara to tequila lime chicken to mentaiko. There are also carne asado quesadilla, Jamaican chicken wings, jambalaya flatbread and more, just to show how international the menu is.

My last review of 2015 goes to one of my favorite not so hidden gems in Hong Kong! Located on the…read moreborder of Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui, Applegreen is one of my favorite lunch spots. For Hong Kong, this restaurant is quite spacious. I've always been able to grab a seat every time I came in the afternoon. I've tried many different dishes here and usually it doesn't disappoint! What I like the most about Applegreen is that they're not just a salad house. They have a pretty wide array of dishes and drinks on the menu. But of course, if you want to eat "healthier", they have plenty of salads to choose from. Most of their salad has "half" servings, which is actually misleading. Their half portion is enough for 2-3 people if you order it with a second or third dish. Their "full" serving of the salad is humongous. Probably more suited for 3-5 people. Just be warned! Also as a tip, if you order salad you can request FREE banana bread to go with it. For their other dishes, they have your typical pastas, but what I like is their Flatbreads. Think of it as a very thin crust pizza. Quite tasty and large in portion. They also have some more unique items from their varying breakfast menu, such as honey glazed bacon, eggs benedict, or other experimental items. As for their drinks, most of their tea-juices have unlimited refill! Surprisingly an uncommon thing in Hong Kong. Applegreen is moderately priced. But for the portion and quality, its a pretty good deal. Its also conveniently located by the Jordan MTR station.

I initially bookmarked this cafe because the interior looks absolutely beautiful, it is inside a flower shop, and it is a vegan cafe! Decided to walk over when it opens at 12pm today (Boxing Day), and got a seat right away. You have to scan your vaccination pass (aka blue code) upon arrival, and you order via QR code at the table (physical menu is also available upon request). It is very spacious inside with high ceiling, beautiful floral and green decors, and very friendly staff. We ordered the Cheese Fondue Lunch Set for 2, and it comes with a fruit x greens salad, and 2 drinks (you can order the free drinks or add a bit of money and get other drink items for this lunch set). The cheese fondue is obviously vegan, and because it is vegan cheese, it does get a bit clumpy, so be sure to stir, stir, stir to get the cheese more smooth before dipping. The set comes with 3 mini trays of food for dipping: baby corn, cherry tomato, broccoli, mushroom, potato wedge, tofu dumpstick, and toasted bread. For the drinks, we had a rose theme going on lol. I ordered the Rock Salt Rose Latte (you can select decaffeinated and the type of milk), and my partner got a pot of the Rose & Osmanthus Tea. It was a lovely lunch :) I can't wait to come back again to try the Chinese desserts!

It was subtly spicy and gave it a good kick. My only qualm was that the noodle quickly absorbed the soup, so it got thicker and thicker as I ate. The portion was quite large and I struggled to finish and needed to enlist the help of friends to help me. The lunch special came with a soup, salad, or hot beverage. I went with the black truffle soup with mushrooms. Definitely made no mistake there. It was so, so good. Super flavorful with bits of mushroom. My dining companions definitely loved it too. I wouldn't mind more of it...actually that sounds pretty good right about now. Price: $78 for the lunch special, so quite reasonable for fresh, good quality, and large portions Friends tried the all-day breakfast and vegetarian burger, and they all liked their food too. Repeat? Yes!

We got a variety of dishes: choy sum, three mushroom porridge, sacha mixed veggies with bean thread noodles, sweet and vinegar mock fish, coconut milk taro and tofu skin clay pot, and hong siu tofu. My parents and relatives were underwhelmed. They said the price was high and the quality was mediocre as far as Hong Kong veggie establishments go. I, on the other hand, was pretty pleased. Perhaps it's a testament to the strength of the HK veggie scene that my parents balked at a place that I thought was pretty good. I'm looking forward to tasting more of the city

We stopped by this place after having dinner at the Hello Kitty Chinese Cuisine restaurant. The…read moreplace has a dim and modern atmosphere and has pages after pages of desserts. The desserts are a bit pricey and westernized, but the presentation is very creative and delicious. Between our foodie group, we ordered the orange soufflé, matcha mousse, creme brulee, matcha tiramisu, and strawberry fruits with a molten chocolate cake. The orange soufflé was light, lightly sweetened, and fluffy. It had tad bit much of an alcohol taste which I didn't like, but it was probably a matter of preference. The soufflé was huge and came with a side of fresh whipped cream. The matcha mousse didn't taste too exciting...afterall, is it even possible to make mousse exciting?? The dessert leaned a bit heavier towards the sweet side which I didn't like. I love the taste of matcha and I could barely taste it in the mousse. The crème brulée also didn't blow my mind. It was a good effort but tasted average in my opinion. I probably wouldn't order it again unless my name is Plain Jane (no offense, Jane). The matcha tiramisu was made to look like a potted plant which was adorable but the taste is again, very predictable. The matcha flavor are barely noticeable and the chocolate (dirt) on top of the matcha tasted like cakey chocolate crackers. I give this four stars for efforts though. The strawberry frozen fruits with a molten lava cake was interestingly presented (watch my video). When the plate arrived, we all stared dreamily at this pink cloudly puff of foggy wonders. The strawberry fruits are wonderful and pairs perfectly with the cake. It wasn't overly sweet and the strawberries weren't overly tart. I highly recommend this dish not only for the presentation, but also for the taste.

I'm glad, because I enjoyed the flavor of the milk pudding by itself, and can add in the pieces of fresh strawberry as I liked. The milk pudding had a nice texture and it wasn't too sweet, which I liked. A simple dessert, but quite refreshing. Service: Their service was good as they placed our orders, and went around refilling our glasses as they noticed that they emptied. When my order was mixed up, they helped to quickly fix it as well and were pleasant. A good spot to catch up with friends and grab some unique molecular gastronomy dessert options that they have. They also have savory food such as burgers, as well as beer on tap and wine.
