Finally got to come back. Valet $10. Still one of the best options for Japanese food in LA. Very thought out dishes w great quality ingredients. Service was very solid. Server knew all the dishes and her suggestions were spot on. Took great care of us. We tried a few cold dishes, salad, some fried yamaimo. Then finished with some sushi. They have an awesome selection of fish you dont find at other sushi bars. Hyu san seasoned and crafted each piece meticulously. What a treat. The brown tea homemade icecream was insane. Thank you so much!

The service and food is always top-notch at Asanebo. Elisa G, The Award Winning Yelper, me, and a friend of ours shared about 10 various dishes. Our favorite was the kinmedai, melts in your mouth fish. We also shared the Asanebo sake, nodoguro, mirugai, tuna, uni, sweet shrimp, scallop yuzu, grilled asparagus, kurodai, tai, homemade oshinko, and brussel sprouts with scallops. Our server was excellent, Fo, and so was Manatoro.

One of the best experiences we've had in a long time! Everyone was so helpful, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Lovely and very authentic environment. My favorites are - Hotate - Ono - Salmon - Kanpachi miso - Toro special - Bluefin tuna sashimi - Yellowtail special - Peach sea bass And we loved the green tea and black sesame ice cream. Arigatou chef! Will be back soon and next time we hope to sit at the bar

This place sucks so bad. Had my birthday dinner here and it will be a birthday I won't forget in the worst possible way. Actually even got sick later while I was sleeping and had to rush to the bathroom. Horrible vibes in a tight area. The Japanese servers are rude and the food for what it was really did not taste good and was extremely overpriced. Crazy how this place has a following but I guess they've never experienced good sushi.

we had a reservation for this place and it was absolutely 10/10! the service was top tier and we had our own little cubicle of where we ate so it felt like almost private. me and my partner were struggling with our fussy baby and the waiters/waitresses made us feel so comfortable telling us it was okay and not to stress or worry about the baby crying. i really appreciated it and made the experience even better. the food was amazing and definitely worth the price! loved the halibut appetizer !!

This is one of the absolute best and must-visit sushi restaurants in Los Angeles. I made an early reservation for Friday night at 5:30 but arrived around 5:15. I was the only diner for almost an hour but had the honor of sitting at the bar in front of Chef Tetsu's station and he is seriously one of the nicest, most humble, and most talented sushi chef's in Los Angeles, in California, in the USA, in the world. I kept ordering dish after dish, fish after fish, because each and every item put in front of me was so fresh, unique, flavorful, and delicious. Chef Tetsu is very welcoming and happy to talk about all things sushi, Japan, his restaurant, staff, and more. His staff too are all so incredibly kind and attentive. I loved all the nigiri, each one with a complex and unique flavor profile. My favorites were the golden baby snapper, zuke tuna, marinaded salmon. The miso black cod was so soft, umami filled and delicious. The truffle was outstanding. The spicy tuna crispy rice was perfect. The yaki toro was seriously butter. The scallops were incredible. The ono handroll was excellent. Everything was sublime. Worth every single penny and every single second at Asanebo. I can't recommend this place enough

Teetering between a 3 and a 4 star review. Honestly, I've pressed 3 stars and then 4 stars a number of times lol Customer service 4.5 stars Food 3.5 First time here. Came for our anniversary. I had certain expectations from everything I've heard and read about this sushi spot. Sometimes it will exceed or meet your expectations and sometimes it will not. For me and hubby this didn't quite meet my expectations. I feel really bad for saying that because the staff was so friendly and the customer service was really nice, but I have to be honest. We started with a glass Asanebo sake ($20). The server was kind enough to split it in half for us, which was a really good portion. It was a full sake glass for each of us. That was very nice and appreciated. We started with the spicy tuna crispy rice, and the popcorn shrimp. Both were pretty good. The popcorn shrimp was outstanding! Fresh and hot and light. I almost ordered another order lol. Spicy tuna crispy rice is something I always order everywhere. This was good, but not mind blowing. We ordered the miso black cod to share. That was good but again not mind blowing. I've had better. Next we ordered a handful of Nigiri and a spicy tuna cut roll and a Toro cut roll with pickled radish. Everything was OK. Nothing bad, but nothing wow. I really had high hopes for this place. Quality did not match the price point IMO. I would come back, but it won't be for a while. There are so many sushi spots in Los Angeles. Like I said, the customer service was great! Everyone was so sweet and attentive. They came out with a refreshing dessert for our anniversary, which was beautiful and yummy.

Came here with a buddy after a Six Flags trip since it was on the way back home. Called to get a reservation same day and got seated at the sushi bar. We found street parking not too far but the area can be a little tricky. The sushi bar sits about 8 ppl and they also had some tables as well. I always choose the bar if I can cuz I love interacting with the chefs. We both opted for their sushi omakase course and it did not disappoint!! The best experience was probably with the sushi chefs and manager. They were absolute hoots and were just an absolute great time. The sushi itself was also to die for. I loved the sea bass miso soup, the fish was buttery and melted in my mouth. I pretty much loved all the nigiri except for the mackerel which isn't general is not really my favorite. They were all seasoned perfectly with really great accoutrements that paired well with each fish. We even got some dessert and the staff was nice enough to include samplers of all their different handmade ice creams when we couldn't decide which kind to get. And it was all delicious. I honestly cannot wait to come back again, I would rank this top 3 of sushi places I've been to when you contemplate the quality, price, and service/experience. Loved it and honestly can't wait to come back again.

Best sushi experience of my life!!. Got the 2nd tier omakase ($180 pp) and worth every single penny. The quality of the ingredients is second to none. You can taste the freshness! Highly recommend sitting at the bar. Chef Hiro was awesome!

The food was absolutely fantastic. Every single piece in the $140 omakase was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We also ordered the wagyu, which was rich and perfectly done. I left completely full and satisfied. No complaints about the quality or taste of the food. But for a group of five with drinks, the total came out to around $1300. At that price, I expected more than just great sushi, I expected a full experience. Instead, the whole thing felt rushed. All 14 pieces were served in groups of seven at a time. Not a single piece was presented on its own. There was little to no explanation of what we were eating, and that took away from the depth and intimacy an omakase experience is supposed to offer. Also, they were pretty insistent about not using soy sauce, which felt unnecessary. If I want to use soy sauce, I should be able to. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's one of those small things that adds to the overall vibe. So while the food was top notch, the pacing and lack of attention to detail in the presentation really held it back. I might recommend it for the flavors alone, but if you're looking for a slow, memorable omakase experience, this one doesn't quite deliver.

Sushi at its best! Seating by the bar definitely helped as I see them prepare the sushi. Fish looks and tastes fresh. Let me warn you though it is pricey but for me it's worth a try, my eldest son who cannot do no wrong in my eyes - requested to try this sushi place and I'm happy to oblige. It's been a couple of weeks since we ate here but I kept some photos for reference. Hyu was handling our orders and what's good with sitting on the bar is that you see all these amazing sushi they prepare. The price is per sushi so it's easy to rack up on the bill. We are still a little under for me to think we should've done the omakase. Since it's just 2 of us we ordered several types of sushi and a couple of sushi rolls. We shared a soup and dessert. We also had hot green tea. The cheapest omakase is $140, they also serve wagyu. Servers and sushi chefs are great and when you can definitely sit by the bar. The place is small so reservation is a must. I called my reservation in a day before for a Saturday night 7:30pm seating. Busy area so unless you over or get dropped off there you'll have to shell out extra $$ for valet.

How much is omakase lately? I know the prices have changed since the last pic uploaded into yelp of the menu.

    160. Not worth it. They rush you like it's fast food.

    Are there any Vegan options?

Yes. They have a veggie roll and they have various appetizers that are vegan. The Himachi Tomato is vegan. Also, Mushroom Risotto and various grilled vegetables. Basically, you can make it work.

How many pieces are in the omakase A?

    12...

How much is an omasake? We're planning on going in lunch time. Will you be full afterwards?

Omakase A is $95.. Omakase B is $145ish. OR you can just do straight Omakase. however many fish you'd like. I had 12 pieces and it was $85.

I wonder how to make reservations if they don't have an answering machine?

We opted to sit at the sushi bar for the full experience. For $80 the fish was fresh, presented well with no overly complicated flavors or garnishes needed. For the location and price point, it just didn't really add up. I also wasn't obsessed with the service. Things didn't feel very seamless. We sat at the bar and had noticeable gaps between each dish. We'd finish a roll and find ourselves waiting and wondering when the next item would come out. I'm totally fine with courses coming out one at a time, but if that's the approach, the pacing should be much tighter. I left feeling like there's no real reason to come back, especially with so many other sushi spots nearby that better suit my taste.

I usually park on the side street near the studios, and between valet-only spots and impossible meter parking on Ventura, I never gave it much thought until now. I was headed to one of my usual sushi spots on a Friday night, but it was packed. No reservation, long wait, so I turned back toward my car and decided to check Yelp for Studio Sushi. The reviews were solid, so I went in and I'm so glad I did. The place is small but charming. Even though they were busy, I was seated immediately at the bar. Service was on point from the start water, beer, and appetizer suggestions right away. I ordered baked mussels, crispy rice with spicy tuna, albacore sushi with crispy onions and their most popular roll, the CBS roll. Everything was great, but the CBS roll was the star. The flavor was impeccable, the albacore was a huge bonus and whatever sauce they use is next-level. The albacore sushi practically melted in my mouth. Crispy rice was fried perfectly just very filling and the mussels were baked just right. What really stood out besides the food was the service. Constant water refills, checking in about drinks, attentive without being overbearing. Also they're open for lunch, which is rare these days for sushi restaurants on Ventura post-COVID. The room with the cocktail bar (and windows open to a patio) has the most energy, with full tables and a nice, festive buzz. The middle section has a quieter, more romantic feel, though it seemed equally busy. We, however, had asked to sit at the sushi bar, and in the case of Leona's it's the loneliest space in the place. We were the only customers, with one or two other occupied tables nearby. This was clearly a bad decision on our part, but the hostess might have suggested we'd have a better time of it elsewhere. We'd have likely had better service, too. Our server was friendly enough, but went MIA a good deal of the time (we were her only customers in this room). The sushi chef was nice, but slammed with orders, though he did make ours without much wait. There is a full bar, so many cocktail options on top of wine and beer, but the sake list is a bit silly: mostly high-priced 720ml bottles, and very few small options. The food was also a tad hit or miss. Toro sushi was top notch and very flavorful; Albacore Sashimi with pico de gallo and crispy onions was also fresh as could be, and very satisfying. Truffle Butter Edamame had a nice, earthy flavor, and Ankimo sushi tasted especially fresh, with a rich and distinctive flavor. Less inspired was the Corn Tempura, which was very bland; the accompanying spicy mayo had very little spice, and seemed wrong regardless. We requested traditional tempura sauce, and this version likewise disappointed, being bland and a bit too thin, much more like a broth. Our final selection, the Salmon Arale Roll (tempura white fish and asparagus inside with salmon and avocado on top plus crispy rice and chili oil), was, again, dull and bland despite the number of ingredients. We didn't even finish it. So, was I blown away? No. Would I return? Yes. But I'll sit in the bar room, and I'll stick to sushi or sashimi. I'm optimistic that my next visit will hit better notes.
