This restaurant checks all boxes: great food selection, great food quality, great customer service, and great prices. We loved it so much, we went two nights in a row! The restaurant is a short walk from the L'illy mall. So, if your hotel is in that area, you can enjoy a nice evening walk to and from dinner. They have tapas, salads, sandwiches, and entries. Most of their options are seafood. Although, they do have vegetarian options, roasted chicken, and a burger on the menu as alternatives. Their wine list is also good, not extensive but a good enough variety. On our two dining experiences, we ordered .... (1) the croquettes which were the best of all the restaurants we experienced during our 8 day stay (2) the calamari which was excellent. It is lightly battered and very tender, not overcooked and rubbery like most places. The serving size is big enough for 3 people to share as an appetizer. We ordered calamari nights and it was excellent both nights. (3) roasted prawns in a tomato, olive, garlic sauce which was very good. The dish is services in a hot sizzling skillet right out of the oven. It is roasted with butter. (I don't think the menu mentions that.) The sauce was so good we ordered bread to scoop it all up. (4) green salad which is much more than a green salad. It was chuck full of goodies and a large half avocado on top, much different than what we Americans consider a small green salad. It more closely resembled a salad nicoise. If you aren't that hungry, this could be a meal. (See photo included with this review.) (5) grilled salmon, cooked to perfection, not over cooked or under cooked. And just a little salt. It was slightly crispy on the outside. It comes served with a couple asparagus spears and spinach. The portion size of the veggies is small. If you like generous portions of vegetables, I recommend ordering extra. The servers remembered us from the previous night and gave us a little more attention. We felt very welcomed here. I think it may be a family run restaurant. It has that feel. They don't speak English, but don't let that dissuade you. They are very open to pointing and gesturing and working with you to get the order right. They have a good sense of humor as well. One minor point is that the pictures of the interior on Yelp are old. They must have remodeled. There are booths along the windows in the main restaurant, and there is a separate back patio that is entirely enclosed with windows and a door. We sat in the enclosed patio our second night. Found this place a little off the beaten path on Yelp. Looking for someplace new so the 4 of us gave it a shot. Friendly greeting and menu was a little confusing if you didn't speak Spanish. Eddie our waiter, apologized for his weak English but certainly made up for it with his enthusiasm and great service. To be blunt, we've eaten a lot in Barcelona and the food here was fairly priced but average at best. There was a little confusion on our cod fish order. We asked beforehand if it was broiled and Eddie thought it was. When it came out in small pieces inside a heavy sauce with rice, Eddie immediately ran it back to the kitchen and "made it right". Oh my goodness, I am so glad my friend took me here. There are so many great things about this place! I also wanna say I am sorry I didn't take menu pictures therefore I don't have the proper item names, but I'm sure if you showed a picture, they would be able to know what it is. So we started with a bottle of red and white wine, and we kept it flowing! This was followed by a few appetizers: tomato toasted bread with oil, spicy potatoes, and a salad with squid. Let me just rave to you about the potatoes! They were a hit at the table. You won't regret them. Everything else was tasty, too. Next were the entrees. Most of the table ordered fish dishes. I heard the salmon was very good. There was another fish ordered and the words were "it melted in my mouth." So that's a great sign! (Fish started with an H I think) There were many bones, though, so be aware! My dish.. I think mine was best of all! I ordered a beef plate and again, I am sorry I don't know the name! It started with an E and wasn't the most expensive dish (if that helps). I asked for it medium, and it was perfectly cooked! It was juicy and flavorful, no need for anything additional to it. A friend and I were recommended to come here by hotel staff and we are so glad that we went. It was a quick and easy walk from our hotel and when we arrived we were greeted by a beautiful restaurant with wide windows and soft tealight lighting. Unfortunately we could not read the menú except for the chicken and potatoes, but decided to enter anyway. We were happily greeted and escorted into a table and handed a menú we could read. We both decided to order their chicken and potatoes. Before my meal I asked for some vegetables. My friends food came out first and it looked amazing. It wasn't just a few chicken wings it was half of a chicken, which was grilled to perfection. The chicken fell right off of the bone and was seasoned very well. The patatas were nothing special, but were fresh and hot. My vegetables were amazing! Not a lot of seasoning, but were grilled very well. I thought they were just going to bring me a few onions or pieces of broccoli, but they brought be a colorful variety of vegetables--tomatoes, potatoes, thick asparagus, peas, carrots, and a hummus like sauce on the side. I almost ate the entire plate before my friend was able to try some--it was that good! Finally my chicken came and I was very impressed. It was enough food for two people and I enjoyed every bite. Ended up taking half of the chicken home for later. Our waiter was nice enough to box it up for us! Speaking of waiters, ours was amazing! He was very nice, patient, and helpful. Recommended by the Hilton but poor quality and overpriced. I think they have a deal going because the restaurant guy asked if we were referred by the Hilton. Seafood Paella was super, super salty with a few random pieces of previously frozen seafood. Also, 40 Euros for a lobster paella that had like one claw and no lobster meat. My mother and I had an extra day in Barcelona after our family cruise. After checking in at the nearby Hilton, we were interested in finding a place to have brunch. The hotel staff recommended this restaurant, they called to make sure a table was available. It took us about 15 minutes to walk there. When we arrived, they sat us at a nice table by the window. It was still early and the traditional lunch crowd wasn't therw Mom and I enjoyed several tapas choices and a pitcher of Cava sangria. The service and the food was all excellent. Moncho's Asador del Mar seems to have an identity crisis. Is it a pizzeria, or is it a seafood restaurant? Apparently both. Which is the correct entrance? There are 3 different doors on Bori i Fontesta. I pass by the place all the time, and I still don't know which is the main entrance. How about places to sit? Well, there's an enclosed patio (nice and comfortable, by the way) where you cannot smoke... yet it's the "patio"? Or there's the bar section, which looks like a casual lunch area. And then there's that other room from that 3rd entrance where I have yet to enter. Prices: (lunch) there's the 11,50e menu del dia, and the deluxe 20e menu. Or you can go off menu - with prices all over the board. You can select from a moderate list of tapas, or salads which are decently priced - to the seafood plates that are more expensive. Food: I ordered the avocado & calamari salad - which was so greasy, it totally negated the idea of going for something light. Of the items off the 20e menu that I sampled from my friends - well, their primero platos were all fried, and the paella was lackluster at best. It's a lot of food, somewhat justifying the price point... It's just not good food. The dessert of this chocolate mouse thing with raspberries was ok. I'd say that the olives served at the beginning whilst waiting to order were the best part of the lunch. Maybe we all ordered the wrong things. Excellent! Usually never give 5 stars but this place along with the chef and our waiter Carlos did not disappoint. Recommended by our hotel, easy 7min walk, hidden behind a quiet park. When we stepped in we thought it was a modern looking diner and empty at 7pm on a Monday. Carlos took us to the back garden section and it was an older decorated "mommas kitchen" type feel. There were other hotel guest there as well. The wine, Temparanello was good and reasonably priced. The tapas were all very very good and I highly recommend the Pan Tomaquete, Jamon, Spanish Omelet, and the Calamari grilled. All were large portions and very hot off the stove. We ordered the paella to share, (4 of us) it was more brown and had less seafood and vegetables then I am used to since my mom is from a small town from Barcelona and makes it quite often, but it was still hot, tasty and good. We finished with 2 desserts and Carlos brought out complimentary dessert bites and a glass of champagne (cava) in very chilled glasses because he swirled the ice in each glass before pouring. Paying by debit card was easy. There are 2 different taxes on the bill but service is not included. We left a bigger service tip because it was just that good. We left at 9:15pm and the locals were just filling up the place. Carlos was super friendly and helped with ordering. I definitely will revisit! read more

We had a party of 6. The tapas were amazingly good. Hake, Sea Bass, Chicken were all delicious entrees. The food was so good we forgot to take pictures. Sangrias were excellent, much better than in the US! We wanted dessert because they looked delicious at the beginning of dinner but we HAD NO ROOM!!! The service was the best!!! The food was average. I ordered seafood paella and I got a platter of rice with 3 shrimp and 3 mussels, not what I was considering "seafood". I have had much better seafood paella at other restraurants; and the dish actually had "seafood". Also, most of the servers don't speak English and seem to have an attitude when you speak English to them. I came at the recommendation of my concierge, but not recommend this place unless you want to pay a lot for average food and horrible service. read more
