Inside, there are many tables to dine in and it was lively in a Saturday night. The lady at the counter was friendly and attentive while we were ordering. We tried the asada tacos with everything and quesabirria tacos to-go. The food came out promptly and nicely packaged. The asada tacos were good, and a great serving size. They were so good, the asada meat has great flavor and crispy edges. I haven't tried the food yet but I go to Purchase the fresh tortillas. They are the best tortillas. We go through a few packs a week. Everyone has been super friendly with me. They even helped me out one day cause the card machine wasn't working and I didn't have cash. They let me take 2 packs of tortillas and asked me to come back to pay. Now a days, who does that?! I gave them my Name and number and promised to come back and I did. They sell the tortillas at a few local meat markets but I like to go there and get them fresh. read more

A great little family run place. Their Aguas Frescas, while often and after thought are tops. I had their special for that day (Tacos de Pescado) one Taco De Pescado empanizado and one Taco Gobernador. Both were excellent, the fillings are spot on, the shrimp (for the gobernador) were clearly fresh grilled and done just right. The pescado too was cooked perfectly. And the salsas provided too were very well made. Top this off with super nice folks, eager to please and you have yourself a winner! I'd have pictures but I jumped on to the food so quickly all I could show is an empty plate! The service is above excellent, everyone who has ever helped us has been genuinely sweet and overly accommodating. The food is bomb. My fiancé gets something different every time he goes & I sample his plates, but I get the same thing every time...I love the nachos. They're huge but I'm a left overs girlie so Idc lol. The way they build the nachos tho, they never get soggy. Weirdest visit there I ever had. We've eaten there several times, the food was really good. I show up, they're all very nice. I ordered two Tortas. They take 25 minutes to make one torta then I sit there while they make the second one, while the first one sits on the "warmer". I get home and there's five pieces of gristle in my torta, I can't even eat it. The bread is thick and not toasted, very little carne in the middle. I set it all aside to take pictures of it but that would be too cruel so It ended up in the trash. Several people picked up their order while I'm waiting for my second torta while the first one is sitting on the "warmer". I'll spare you the details on everybody else's food. 27 bucks up the keister. I know things happen once in awhile and the food and the people have been good prior to this but this one rubbed me wrong. I feel like going back and trying again considering it might be a one-off but it's a tough call if your left hungry, plus, it's not affordable at that rate. read more

So my fiancé and I were scouring the internet to try the golden "birria tacos". In all honestly, Asadero Mexicali wasn't our first choice, but we managed to find this place after our first choice being closed. However, they did not disappoint. We ordered the birria tacos and quesa tacos. They were delicious. Now, just for informational purposes, this establishment is located in what some would consider a more run down part of Oxnard. That being said, don't let that intimidate you, it's worth it. As my family likes to say, you find the best food in off the wall places (meant with zero disrespect). Also most of the menu is in Spanish (which was fine for me, but those who don't read Spanish), but I'm sure who ever is helping you could easily explain the menu in English. Food was spectacular. We stopped in here for lunch and had to order dinner to-go after we finished our tacos. We shared a cucumber lime Agua Fresca and 6 tacos (about $30 total after tax): asada, pastor, pollo, California with chorizo, California with asada, and a gobernador (shrimp). Hands down the best asada - reminds me of that family BBQ type of asada. The California tacos with asada and chorizo were sooo good. Loved the combo of the Anaheim Chile with the meat. My husband said the gobernador was the best seafood taco he's had in a while. The tacos came with choice of house made flour tortillas, which were tasty, the corn tortillas were also good. Both red/green salsa complement the food well. My favorite is that the food is served with sides of sliced Cucumber, lemon and pickled onions. Cucumber lime Agua Fresca went great with the meal. Before we left we ordered burritos to have for dinner at home: asada and pastor. Both very delicious and filling, but I think the flavors shine through much better on the tacos. We also had a licuado de mango, and it was so delicious. It reminded me of the licuados I would have in Mexico when I was a kid. 10/10 would go again. Just check the hours ahead of time. From what I recall they are closed Sunday (and maybe one other day in the week?). On Saturdays they are open 1pm to 9pm. I can't quite recall the hours during the week but I belive he said 12 to 8? You don't place order at the truck; you order inside Fruti Hielo. After paying, take your receipt to the truck and wait for your food. x2 Tacos de Al Pastor (flour and corn tortillas): Good! The Mexicali-style al pastor had good flavor and was plentiful even with cabbage and avocado crema on top; a swipe of refried beans was added to the flour tortilla. Their corn tortillas are good, too. x3 Tacos de Cabeza: Good! All 3 tacos had a solid amount of cabeza with a little red sauce added. Speaking of the red sauce, it'll wake you up! It's one of the spiciest salsas I've had in awhile. Good stuff, though! Tacos come up a side of sliced cucumber, grilled jalapenos, grilled onions, grilled scallions, and a slices of lemon (would be nice if they gave lime instead). Bacon-wrapped Hot Dog: Solid.
