Menu on the front of the truck.

Wow. I have driven by this place a few times and after the other taco truck I was headed to was closed I decided to finally check them out. I'm glad I did. It was a bit after 11pm on a Saturday night (I asked, and the truck is in this same location in the parking lot of the Fast Car Title and Payday Loans shop every Wednesday - Sunday, although I didn't catch the specific hours) and although it looked like they were closing down, they were super friendly and told me what they had left. According to their menu, they have a lot of different things on offer here. Tortas, tacos, Asada fries, Burritos, Quesadillas, Gorditas, Nachos, Taquitos and rotating specials. The meats they offer are Asada, Pastor, Lengua, Cabeza, Barbacoa, Birria, Pollo and Chorizo. I came for tacos, so that's what I got. I ordered four tacos, each with different kinds of meat, "con todo" (with everything). When they asked if I wanted mild (verde) or hot (roja) salsa, I requested that they top each taco with the type of salsa that goes best with each type of meat. The cashier happily obliged and just smiled and assured me they would be good. First off, my old stand by, Al Pastor. This was pretty standard in terms of cut of meat, grilled (instead of roasted on el trompo). Very moist, tender and delicious with a bright red juicy grilled exterior and a smokier flavor than I am used to for grilled Al Pastor. I really dug the increased smoke level. The Al Pastor taco was dressed with onions, cilantro and verde salsa. The verde salsa was delicious and it gave a nice zesty medium kick, but certainly not too hot for most people. It was acceptably delicious but wouldn't necessarily be memorable if it weren't for the nice smokiness. Next, Chorizo. The Chorizo had a nice strong roasted chile flavor. Also, the meat wasn't gamey or noticeably full or glands or unrendered connective tissue like you can sometimes get in chorizos around town. It has a nice, moist and delicious flavor and consistent ground texture and a big portion. Served with onions, cilantro and smoky hot rojo salsa. The hot red salsa definitely has a kick, but it is still well balanced and delicious. I need to add that unlike many chorizos I've had and even made myself, it was nice and juicy without being greasy which is a fine line with chorizo. Up third was the cabeza (beef cheek). Man, this was great cabeza, some of the very best I've ever had and I order cabeza A LOT. Great flavor, preparation and presentation. And, like any really good cabeza should, just holding the taco long enough to devour it left my fingers covered in a viscous, sticky juice which shows that the abundant connective tissue in the meat was rendered properly. I washed my hands so I could write this review but I can still feel it and it is making me hungry. It was served with onions, cilantro and the verde salsa. Very delicious. Definitely an outstanding taco. Just writing about it is giving me cravings. Yum. Finally, I've saved the best for last, the Birria de Res (pulled/shredded and stewed beef). Really, really delicious. It was lean yet flavorful, full of balanced chile flavor, tender, substantial, filling, wonderful, etc. I've never had better birria from a taco truck. The juiciness from the meat completely coated the inside of the taco without being a drippy mess. The taco was topped with cilantro, onion and red salsa. A++. In addition to the tacos with the toppings, my well-composed plate, which was served to-go with foil on top, napkins and bagged up neatly, was served with limes, radishes, a delicious yet very hot, whole roasted, tender and delicious serrano pepper and some slow stewed, caramelized and highly delicious onions. All of this was served up quickly yet with care by kind, smiling faces. Man, I am happy I found El Taco Loco. I am loco for these tacos. 5 enthusiastic stars as El Taco Loco served up some truly outstanding and diverse flavors that would be excellent in a brick and mortar taqueria yet were somehow conjured out of the cramped environs of a taco truck on a dark street in the middle of North Oxnard. Highest possible recommendation. Tacos were $2 each, cash only.

We absolutely enjoy the tacos from here! They have been fresh every single time! The carne asada fries are also delicious.

Pretty much the only place that haven't tried in Oxnard city...until yesterday…read more Let's start with the chips and salsa...always a good indicator of things to come. Wasn't the best, but far from bad. The chips were in one of those steel machines to keep warm, they were thin, crispy, and light salt, the way ALL tortilla chips should be. But they were a bit oily only negative. The salsa was cantina style seemed homemade, was good, zero spice/mild. (B+) Combo fajitas (friend order) it was a good tasting with a terrific plate of guac, pico, refried beans, and shredded cheese. Heck, you couldve made a meal from just the side plate wrap em up call it a veggie fajita party. Very filing and good (A-) Other friends had carne asada burrito, and a steak plate, both happy so assuming they are good. Service was outstanding by several individuals; checking in on order, refilling drinks, cleaning table, all workers are terrific and polite. I was ready for the 5-star goldenrod Neptune-trident throwdown, but my order, the torta (D-) was a complete trainwreck. Al pastor and a torta; took a double-jeopardy style gamble and crapped out, snake eyes big time. The bread was abysmal/ not fresh, the al pastor was ice cold and not memorable, meat fused to a cold hardened melted gooey cheese; send it back, replaced with carne asada, still came back cold (just don't get it.) so that item alone dragged it down a star. I was so full from the chips and salsa, sampling friends' food, and the side order of clam chowder (yes, in a Mex restaurant a first for me, was smoky and quite good too! (A-) that I just picked off some of the cold beef and ate that without the bread. Would I come back? Well, when seaside, I usually crave seafood like a nice fish n chips or something, but if I am ever craving Mex, will bring wife and son. Just will not touch the torta with a diez-foot pole amigo. They also have a salsa bar upon entrance which I completely forgot to pound once food came, shame on me once.

A place recommended by a contractor who fixed our windows in Oxnard California. The man claims this…read moreis the best Mexican birria he's ever had in his life. With that being said, I wanted to try it out. This was about 2 years ago prior to this visit I had today at this location. I jotted the note down after overhearing him talking about it while watching Netflix. When arriving, the environment outside is run down, old fashioned and in the scary graffiti, homeless surrounding. Parking is difficult to find, but we got lucky me and a colleague. The place is on a road side where parking it located a few streets between about 100 feet away. The surrounding had graffiti and loitering which was unpleasant and I would imagine it is worse at night, be careful here! Inside, a wonderful aroma excites you as you enter the restaurant. Booths all around and hard uncomfortable seats. A lot of people came here today on Sunday afternoon. Customer service was excellent, the guy at the front was very chill, polite and acted as if I was his homie, buddy or good friend. This is what I like. I ordered the birria of course, a meat drenched in a bunch of flavors for days to keep the meat juicy, tender and moist. The variations ordered were three tacos plate with birria, onions cilantro and a consome that was massive. This meal was $17. The other order was a four piece birria quesadilla that was absolutely delightful, succulent and had a delicious hunger craving aroma and flavor that any starving or hungry person would die for! This plate was $14. The tacos did come with beans and rice. Between the two dishes the birria quesadilla was my favorite however, the tacos tasted better. The tortilla of the tacos was fresh and made with love. The value was regular, something I expected compared to taco trucks and side vendors of Mexican food. This place is extraordinary. I felt guilty after consumption because it was fatty, juicy and everything you would want in a pleasurable meal, but it was heavy on the calories and filling. It was a messy meal, I added salsas, more seasoning from the condiments bar. There were so many different sauces and fillings like lemon etc. to balance the flavors of the birria. The console incuded was an added kick that I loved. Definitely one of the best if not the best birria I ever had and I highly recommend this place if you like Mexican cuisine at its finest. An absolute hidden treasure that you need to try! I'll come back after a month of consistent cardio and strength training to burn enough fat and make room for another appetite that soothes my brain cells.

Place isn't too big inside and it was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon. I was for sure going to get the nachos and tacos but wanted more. Jesus was kind enough to recommend the grilled cheese and burrito. Both were great recs and delish! I mean I thought about the grilled cheese and burrito days after. The horchata was creamy and you could tell it was made in house. This place is delish, no notes.
