We came here for the beer and we would give 5 stars for the beer variety and uniqueness compared to other local tap rooms. We didn't try the food so couldn't fully give 5 stars. The service was efficient and friendly enough for NYC. The place can get crowded so you might have to fight your way to get served. I was in town for a conference with only 2 afternoons to explore. If you're in the same boat and love great beer this is a must-visit. It's a small spot in a happening neighborhood that's very easily walkable. The vibe is exactly what I want from a "craft" beer bar. Not pretentious but they know what they're talking about. The service was efficient and to the point so know what you want before sauntering up to the bar. Their happy hour is fantastic. I an a fiend for a good pretzel and they killed it. For $10 I don't know if you'll find a better deal. Their full menu looked fantastic but I was already pretty full from before. A craft beer lovers haven, super hipster/minimalist decor, limited food menu (basically slightly elevated bar food), but where this place shines is their tap list. Beer wise they have everything from your basic IPA, to more interesting wild ales. The food wasn't anything to write home about but it did it's job. Wings were a little over cooked but the homemade ranch really what stood out. The fish and chips were a little soggy , but the fish was fresh and flaky. The food portions were fair too. This is my second time here. Both times were for the happy hour. All draft beers are 3 dollars off and they have some food items for 10 dollars as well. It's M-F from 3-6. One of my friends recommended me this spot because of their array of dark beers (stouts and porters) and I am truly impressed. Our bars usually will only carry one or two at most, but As Is is loaded and they're consistently rotating their drafts. Besides the drinks, I just happened to be hungry so I ordered the California Burrito ($17), which consisted of carne asada, pico de gallo, avocado, fries, cheese, flour tortilla. A bar that specializes in beer, they have a huge selection of beers and ciders to choose from with multiple different sizes. As Is has vibes of a nicer pub, and they serve fancier versions of pub food. Having been several times, I would recommend staying away from the quesadilla and nachos as the flavors and textures aren't very good. But the chicken tenders and fish and chips are pretty good (the fries could use some work, are on the thicker soggier side). 5-stars for the beer selection, easily. They've got some extremely rare, and hard to get beers here. The food was meh.. all right. It was good enough. But we weren't there for the food. The music they were playing was awesome. Boomin tunes, good speakers, nice clean sound well distributed. Place is clean and tight, all around. We were here for a celebratory event, and reserved a couple tables in the back. I ran a big bar tab (under my name) in the end it was around 2G's. There were two bartenders, one tall, one short. When I first got there (and I got there early noone was there) I tried to make some small talk with short bartender and thanked him, and said people will be coming and ordering under my name etc, and he acted like he knew everything. I got that arrogant NYC hipster feel from him, like I didn't need to remind him of anything. And then I ordered a beer from him and I wanted the Foam from Vermont and he poured me the Sierra Nevada Foam (totally different beer), and I said I wanted the Foam from Vermont but apparently I wasn't ordering it according to his protocol. It was great to see something for everyone and not a single style [of beer] taking over. Best NYC craft beer bar because you can try beers for $4-5 before committing to a full pour. As for beers, I had a Hills Farmstead (out of Vermont) 'of first and last things' (IPA). both weer local micro brewery selection and were awesome. The staff was friendly and informative, and the food was generously portioned. We ended up ordering couple of apps(Fries, Pretzels and street tacos) while we waited for the larger group. Everything came out quickly and was on point. It's easy to make a decent list of beers, but the service here takes it to the next level! The #1 thing I love about As Is is the ambience and welcoming atmosphere inside. It gives you dive bar vibes at first glance but it's actually very classy. We are new to the neighborhood so we popped into this place for a chill, week day date night. Loved the industrial lighting and wooden bar. Lotsa beers on draft and upscale bar eats. We got the pulled pork sandwich, kale salad, and the nachos...omg those nachos were the size of Antarctica. WAY too much food for too, but we left stuffed to the rafters and the bartender was impressed. Best of all they are very runner friendly...i.e. there's a run club on Monday nights and they have running themes bar shirts! Yes, we are THOSE people. Simply the best beer bar on the west side. I try not to go every week so I can explore NYC for all it's worth...but this place is hard to top. The only drawback is no samples, so you will have to commit to a 4 oz or full pour of your beer. However nearly all their offerings are winners, usually stick with the local IPA or sour beers. Pricing is fair for manhattan but not cheap. Still, having the opportunity to buy Other Half, Equilibrium, or Hudson Valley is worth an extra buck or two. I like the vibe, with classic bicycles on the wall and old fashioned tools scattered about. There is low moody lighting which is almost romantic if not for the large number of hipsters and beer heads chatting loudly. Intimate during the day but busy at night. The food menu is solid too, with very tasty but pricey options. Overall, I can't think of a better bar to quench your hops craving. read more

Great beer, some unfriendly staff. Over the course of years and many visits, I have routinely been ignored by the bartenders during uncrowded hours. I'm not sure whether to chalk it up to some of the staff not enjoying talking about beer with women or if they just don't like my vibe. Today I asked about happy hour, heard the bartender say "until 5," and so got two beers I thought were happy hour (5 vs 10 dollars). Turns out he said it was "at 5," but didn't correct me when I ordered a full size directly after asking about the happy hour and him confirming it was for full size beers (I was obviously trying to do a happy hour deal). Given the misunderstanding and that I got the beers very shortly before happy hour started it would have been nice to credit me this one time. I would have ordered differently if I had known. Also the entirety of the credited beer price would have gone to their tip to thank them but instead I'm left feeling ripped off and also guilty that I only gave 15%, so everyone's happy right? Ugh. At least the heat lamps outside are nice. (Edit after reading other reviews, glad I'm not the only person who finds the staff unnecessarily rude and dismissive.
