What a great 90 minutes! First time taking myopatterning and had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I loved it. Loved it even more when there's a pup walking around giving people hugs and kisses! Ty is a great instructor walking me through everything, since the reformer was a tad different than the ones I'm used to. The class went very slow as we were at our own pace of stretching and listening to our body. The whole bottom of my body was fully stretched out and I felt elongated. The woman who instructed the class was kind and informative with great detail in making sure her students were protected in form. The class was talkative which I found to be distracting. One of the topic of conversation was that certain students had been covid positive. 3 women had their masks below their noses. I asked the instructor is she could correct the issue. She asked one of the women twice and the woman would not put her mask on properly. I decided it was best for me to leave. The instructor apologized and told me that they fallow covid protocol. I feel if that were the case than anyone not properly wearing their masks after being asked more than once should be asked to leave. I am disappointed that I had to leave mid workout because mask policies weren't being strictly enforced. Also the equipment was not spaced 6 feet apart :( read more

Love this place! Unlike some of the more loud and fast pilates experiences, this is a long, thoughtful class. I'm a former ballet dancer, and I started doing this when I was trying to get back in shape after pregnancy. It was the best way to restore strength and reinforce posture. The class somehow manages to be both gentle and challenging, and in the beginning I was sore after every single class. Eventually, I stopped being sore all the time and felt strong enough to get back to the dance studio (as a hobbyist), so I stopped going to myopatterning as much, but I highly recommend this place. read more

It gives me great pleasure to leave a review for Artistic Body Development. I learned about this establishment through LivingSocial. When I cross-referenced it with Yelp and saw ALL 5-star reviews, I knew I had found something special. Before purchasing the LivingSocial deal, I checked out the website and saw that I could take an initial class for free to determine if I liked it. My husband decided he would go also and since neither of us have ever taken a Pilates class, we weren't altogether sure what to expect. Many of the positive reviews on Yelp mentioned Mike as being a great instructor, so we decided to give Mike's class a try on an early Saturday morning. After speaking to Gipper on the way in, we told Mike this was our first time trying Pilates and visiting the studio. He was so delighted. The 1.5 hours class was FABULOUS! It was a full body workout and Mike was so helpful and patient. Everyone in the class clearly had been a newbie at some point, so they were equally as patient when he came over to lend us a little extra help. After speaking to some friends who take Pilates, I'm now realizing that even without the LivingSocial deal, their prices are extremely reasonable. Score! My husband has been attending the myopatterning classes for 20 years. He started at 50 and is now 70 and has retained his flexability and strength. It's great for your core muscles, and helps his golf game. I go when I can, and it's great for my legs and bum. After taking pilates classes for about a year, I was getting a little unsatisfied with the studio I was attending. The group sessions weren't pushing me enough or giving me the kind of workout I really wanted and I couldn't afford one-on-one sessions. Then I found ABD. While it's not exactly traditional pilates, if it's good enough for international ballet companies, figure skaters and Brazilian soccer clubs, its gotta be worth checking out, right? I went in for my free first class and much to my surprise I was easily the youngest person in the room. Now I'm thinking, 'How good can really this be if there's all these old folks in this class?' But I'm here now, I might as well check it out... Mike helped me get the reformer set up before class and then proceeded to kick my ass for 90 minutes. When he was done with me, I was a sweaty, rubbery mess and I have been hooked for over a year now. I do a few different things as part of my weekly workout routine, but a weekly session at ABD is essential for me to stay loose, flexible and strong at a lower impact level in between weights, cardio, and soccer games. I love ABD. I have been going since about January, when I got a $30 coupon on livingsocial.com for 5 Myopatterning reformer machine classes. I have been practicing pilates solo for a couple of years, and was excited to get into a real class with a trained professional. Micheal D is great, very friendly, smiley, and helpful. He gave me plenty of time and attention until I got comfortable and familiar with the machine. He is very patient with all his new clients, and when you're a regular, then he'll push you to keep going and get the good excersize you came to get. He will call me out and keep me going, always! I just took my first class here and was really impressed. It was a 90-minute long class that mostly took place on a reformer-like machine, incorporating a foam block, therabands and a mat. In true Pilates fashion, the class was challenging both from a strength and flexibility standpoint. I would say it was more comprehensive than your usual Pilates class, perhaps because of that extra 30 minutes. Michael D. had a strong focus on proper form and was both friendly and attentive when he helped myself and others find the correct posture. I think what impressed me most were the exercises themselves. While some were familiar, others challenged my muscles and movement patterns in ways I've never experienced before. There was also a series focused on strengthening the ankles and feet, and to that I say thank God, because I am constantly subjecting those two appendages to concrete, dance floors, mountains and whatnot, and it feels amazing to exercise them in a stabilizing manner. All in all, a great workout, and I have no doubt that doing this class consistently will stabilize and strengthen my body. read more

I heard about Artistic Body Development from a good friend of mine who I had been seeing for body work. I had back and neck pain, and I was feeling well enough again to go back. First off, I should mention that I hate working out. I love hiking and riding my bike, but the idea of going to a gym or class for an hour plus is not my typical idea of fun. Second, I think most yoga and pilates studios are pretentious. They're a competition to see who is the hottest, who has the best moves, and who can out-do the others as far as modifications. You usually do not get a super welcoming vibe. Lastly, I hurt myself in a hot yoga class. I had a teacher who pushed and pushed and didn't correct postures. This combined with the heat led to a pinched nerve in my neck. (This was Mile High Bikram Yoga, btw) OUCH! I took a private lesson with Andrea first because I wanted to make sure that I was doing the moves correctly so I wouldn't hurt myself again. Andrea called me and talked on the phone one evening to get an idea of who I was, what I wanted to achieve, what my challenges were, etc. I was super impressed. As someone with a background in anatomy and physiology, it makes a lot more sense to me when someone explains what muscles we're working, why, and what the result would be. My private lesson and the classes have been amazing. Not only are they an amazing work out, but they're a killer deal and they are fun. I honestly don't know where else you can get a 90 plus minute class on a reformer for as cheap in price. And I also don't know where else you would feel at home with your pilates family as quickly as I did. They even bought me a cake for my birthday! (Thanks, Andrea). Bottom line is this: I love going for the roughly 2 hour classes, I am starting to feel less pain and more strength every day, and I wish my schedule wasn't so busy that I could go every day. I started taking Pilates at ABD after my first child was born. At the time I was rather out of shape and the excellent teachers helped me learn proper form and to regain my strength. I have been attending classes now for nearly ten years. In that time, I have had the opportunity to take classes from nearly every instructor and they are all superb.
