We went in for ramen and were impressed at the service and COVID precautions they are taking. The ramen has always been tasty here: I ordered the miso base and added spice to it--it was the perfect amount of spice for someone who likes spicy food. I was in flavor heaven with the combo. My 11 year old wanted real ramen for his birthday. We drove 45 minutes and got there and was super confused since we aren't from the city. While in the car still I called and the bartender who answered the phone as so kind and helpful. When we walked in we were warmly greeted and immediately shown a table. We ordered the deviled eggs and the tuna poke as appetizers. Both were incredible! Then we ordered our ramen. Both of my boys love spicy and they orders theirs at a level 2 with the spicy noodles. It was hot. They ate it but said it wasn't as enjoyable as they hoped. (Totally on them for ordering it like that.) I ordered spice level 1 of the beef ramen and it was absolute perfection. The service was excellent and the bartender who served me was very knowledgeable about the vegan options and even told me I couldn't order that because it was cooked in beef fat. I stopped off at Artisan Ramen downtown on Mason on Fri eve, 2/11. As it's downtown I was pretty much forced to pay $8 for an hour parking close by. It was busy when I arrived and I elected to sit at the bar so not to wait long for a table. I was hungry. Once seated, the lone bartender took some time taking my order or checking in with me. In his defense he appeared to be the one taking phone orders when there appeared to be 3 hosts standing up front. That did not seem like an equitable use of labor. Seeing that things were slow, I kept my order simpler and just got a bowl of beef ramen which appeared to be a staple composed ramen versus picking variations. To be honest, it was very average, not much noodles which weren't great, and the broth was mostly lukewarm when I got it. I anticipated more umami but it really wasn't much better than beef bouillon cubes. The beef itself was ok and the vegetables were cooked adequately. Nothing made it special or "artisan." I think the Artisan title is there to be pretentious and doesn't reflect quality. It's a trendy downtown place that overcharges for a mediocre bowl of ramen. And I had to pay $8 for parking and $21 for the dish to be dissatisfied. I expected much more. I don't plan to return. read more

I sat at the bar, ordered a cocktail (which for the price I'd didn't think was all that good), and ordered a bowl of udon noodle pork ramen. The ramen was very decent. Beautiful flavor and after I added a little extra spice, it had the perfect little kick to it. The egg was beautifully soft boiled. Very enjoyable and would highly recommend. There are clear dividers between the tables (this is the first place I've ever seen this) so it's COVID safe. We started off with the Chicken Kara-age and it was really good- chicken coated with tempura and served with spicy mayo. Then I got the Tonkatsu Ramen and it was one of the BEST RAMENS I've ever had so def try it out! I've been here several times now and, each time I've had an enjoyable experience. This is the only ramen place I've been to so far in the MKE (crazy, I know...it's something I am working on). So, anyway, I don't have anything to compare this too, but, maybe that's a good thing? My standalone, non-comparable opinion is: each time, I have ordered the chicken ramen and, each time I've been very satisfied--it's been flavorful, filling, tasty, and I've never been able to eat more than half of my bowl in one meal. I've also ordered the cheese tea (hot version) and it's been good. Previously, I'd never tried or even heard of cheese tea. It reminds me almost of a buttercream-ish, sweet-ish version of a latte or something... almost like grandma's traditional Christmas Tom & Jerry drink without the alcohol, but not quite. Appetizers are delicious and could be a meal in and of itself. Anyway, this ramen joint is near my work and walkable distance. It's always busy but the co-workers and I have always managed to grab a table, enjoy our food and the ambiance, and be on our merry way. Staff has been extremely friendly and attentive. Did a staycation in Milwaukee at the Pfister and ended up trying Artisan Ramen for dinner on a Friday night. It's nothing noticeable from the street, and the decor inside is pretty basic more of a lunch diner feel. Where they make up for that is in service. He initially was seating us over in the middle of people aka a cramped spot and instead gave us a table where we had some space. Our server was very attentive and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying ourselves. We shared a bowl of ramen and agree with other reviews that the black garlic was a very tasty addition. We also got the gyoza and crab rangoons. Both were cooked to perfection. The Gyoza was neither too slimy nor overdone and the ratio of the breading to filling in the rangoon was spot on! I'd definitely return here again. read more

They don't make the "minute ramen" you used to make in college for 0.50. Discrediting them on that would be like going to a gourmet burger place disappointed in the restaurant, price and all quality/ingredients because White Castle sells frozen burgers at the grocery store. I would also add that they have done a great job at researching and perfecting something very similar to original ramen culture and recipe. This is my favorite ramen in Milwaukee. I've been going here since they opened and they just keep getting better every time I go. I have now tried all of their broths, but miso is my absolute favorite. Be sure to add the black garlic. It is well worth the dollar, and it really takes their already delicious broth to the next level. For meat, I have found that I like the chicken, but the pork is out of this world! Perfectly seared and crispy. I've tried udon, kale, and spicy noodles, but the regular noodles are my fav. Worth mentioning they make their own noodles and even free classes on this mystic art. Every appetizer I've had, has been delicious, but I almost always get the pork gyoza. The deviled eggs and momofuku are tied for second currently. I like they they are starting to have seasonal specials, like when they had pozole ramen For Cinco de Mayo. While it was not my favorite ramen, it was still quite good and a fun option. I'm really excited about some of their upcoming new menu items, tsukemen, sushi, and sashimi! Service is great here too. Fast, knowledgeable, and friendly every time I've been here. I like that they remember their regulars, like me and my work buds. We stop in for lunch almost every week. The decor is fun and eclectic, Star Wars art is abundant and there is usually anime on at least one of the screens.
