Came here about 15 minutes before they close hoping to get some late night dessert, but they said it was too late to make a Crema Catalana. They actually started closing up quite early already removing the gelato like 10 minutes before closing time. Husband ended up getting a Frappe, but they said they could only make one with whatever few flavors of gelato they had left out. He asked for one with the Kinder Bueno. If we were expecting a warm drink but then saw that it was like a milkshake, and less excited. But ended up being pleasantly surprised! The drink was delicious! A nice little coffee/pastry/ice cream store. Have been in several times over the years while visiting Barcelona. Good for a quick coffee or treat if you are waiting for one of the walking tours such as the Gothic Quarter or Gaudi, as they both start in Plaça Reial where the store is located on the corner of. There is generally seating inside and a few of the table outside but as there is not a lot of room inside, it can be hard to hear conversations when the shop tends to get busy. We would usually get the items to go and go sit out by the fountain in the square. Pastries have been decent for the different kinds and the coffee hot. The mixed coffees have not always been on point though and tend to either be too sweet. We have had several messed up drink orders during the multiple visits and most we just have gone with as the drink still taste ok. I would attribute this as it is hard to hear and I myself had to repeat the pastry orders multiple times due to the people yelling. read more

I was craving some churros, having experienced some amazing churros in Madrid and Granada on a previous trip to Spain. I went ahead and ordered chocolate with churros. Chocolate with churros (4 euros) - The hot melted chocolate came in a small glass cup and wasn't sweet at all. It also wasn't as bitter as I thought it would be. 4 crispy churros coated in sugar, about the size of my hand, came in a bag. These were definitely smaller than the other ones I had on my previous trip. They did however go well with the chocolate, although I had a lot of chocolate left over and could have dipped another bag of churros into the hot chocolate. Overall the churros satisfied my sweet tooth, but there weren't as good as the ones I had in Madrid and Granada. But they were better than anything one will find in the U.S. The pricing was just ok, and the quantity of churros given was on the smaller side. read more

This place was a nice spot to satisfy a sweet tooth after a long day of walking around lovely Barcelona. It is quite small inside and cozy as far as seating goes but there are a lot of customers who select a pastry to go. My sister and I enjoyed the churros, bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and the hot chocolate here. The desserts were really nice and tasty. I didn't much care for the hot chocolate which is very European in that it has the texture of chocolate sauce which is way too rich for me. It's a quaint place that is very busy. Considered by some to be one of Barcelona's more tourist-friendly Brunches, the menu spanning several Spanish classics as well as American mainstays like Eggs, Sandwiches and simple Salads, ARTiSA originally opened in 2009 and quickly made a name for itself thanks to fast service and an accessible location, the in-house Bakery no doubt a focus and turning out more than thirty styles of Cookies, Cakes and Pastries daily. We were struggling with food at all the tourist traps along Las Ramblas and Artisa was a fantastic find. Too bad we discovered it towards the end of our trip. As others have pointed out, it's a cafe, gelateria, eatery serving crepes and sandwiches and a small shop selling olive oil, chocolate, herbs, and other artisanal goodies. Everything is fresh and organic and you can't go wrong with anything here. The vibe is young, modern and hip. They music selection is good too and favors more established rock bands. Most of the employees there are young and speak some English, if you so desire. Their coffee comes with a piece of chocolate on the side. That is a very nice touch and worth returning for. The gelato though is just amazing. The sandwiches there are very good but their savory crepes are among the best we've ever had. It was my favorite cafe in Barcelona and one of the highlights of the trip. read more

Among a lot of mediocre or very expensive restaurants on the Ramblas, is this beautiful space, that looks like you've walked into someones kitchen or cottage. Along the right wall are gourmet food products found in different parts of Spain, but that's not what's exciting about it. They have sweet and savoury crepes, along with pastries and fancy coffees. We had a chocolate crepe with banana, and she used real chocolate chips (not nutella, even though you could do that). There are also a whole bunch of gelato to choose from! Yum, pistachio. Wow! How did I not know that Yelp was available in countries other than the US? Artisa was one of my wife and I's favorite places while visiting Barcelona on our honeymoon. We stopped in several times for coffee and pastries. We loved it so much so that I actually made a mason jar chandelier similar to those in their shop for our own kitchen. My friend and I ordered the churros with chocolate, and I watched as our server dumped basically a mountain of granulated sugar on them, which is not the way to eat churros in Spain. Service was also super slow, given that there were two people serving a full house. I waited 20 minutes to get my tea, which was just a tea bag in water. This is a cute little cafe right next to La Rambla. We ordered a hot chocolate, a cappuccino, and a slice of the chocolate cake. Hot chocolate here is different than in America, because it's a lot thicker, almost like melted chocolate. It wasn't too sweet, though, so I think they used dark chocolate, which i really appreciated. It was absolutely delicious! The cappuccino was good, nothing spectacular. The chocolate cake was very good, and not too sweet, so, if you want a richer, more decadent cake, this really isn't it. Its pretty light. Overall, this is a very nice cafe! read more

The place had a nice ambience (though it felt a bit like they were trying too hard to look quaint/homey), the service was good, and the people at the table next to us had some really tasty looking sandwiches, but I had come here specifically wanting some churros and chocolate and was left a bit wanting. They gave me a bag with 4 sugar-coated churros which were tasty despite having way too much sugar for what I think of as typical Spanish churros, but the hot chocolate really left a lot to be desired. It should be incredibly thick, rich and creamy - so thick you can eat it with a spoon like custard! Instead it was frothy on top and there were many lumps of cocoa powder in it. I will say though that after stirring it a lot to get the lumps out, the flavor was good - mildly sweet, and very rich. It wasn't thick enough to stick to the churros well though when you dipped them in the chocolate (as is required when eating chocolate & churros!). The chocolate was too liquidy and dripped a lot. I'll make sure to come back another time to try the sandwiches, it still seems like a great place in comparison to a lot of the touristy places along La Rambla. read more

Stumbled upon this place after choosing Las Ramblas was not where we wanted to eat. The staff is very friendly and speaks multiple languages and is willing to go out of their way to assist you whether it be from the menu or directions.
