Near the gothic quarter in Barcelona Spain we found a great gelato shop with two staffers who were friendly and provided some samples. We decided on the mixed cup of dolce leche and the vegan blueberry gelato priced at 4€. The blueberry was very sweet and creamy which blended well with the light chocolate dolce. The last two pieces of brioche bread was gobbled up by my two friends who filled them with gelato, at least they let me try it. The bread tasted fresh and not too flaky and with the cold gelato in the center it was a good combo. The bathroom was oddly constructed. It was clean although made for small humans as my head literally hit the roof. read more

With the abundance of all the gelato shops in Barcelona, it is difficult to say which one may be the best. We headed to Oggi based on the reviews. It is nestled in the heart of Old Town and is a fairly small shop. We ordered the coffee, dolce de Leche and mascarpone (a unique item with complex flavor!). The first server (who was helping another party) was charming and seemed to patiently enjoy helping his customers choose a treat. My guy wasn't having a good day, perhaps - he seemed exasperated and didn't offer the drizzle, just wanted to be done with me. This was my favorite gelato during my time in Barcelona. My wife and I tried many different places and both agreed this was the best. I just went with the basic chocolate in a cup. Their gelato is made in house which means they're FRESH. The pistachio was creamy and actually tasted like real pistachio, no preservatives, real goodness. The banana was definitely different and refreshing. I enjoyed it but not as much as the pistachio. Every flavor we tried was great, but if you're a fan of dark chocolate, they specialize in that. I had the 5% leche one and it was so rich and smooth, like ganache. They also have a pure dark chocolate one (i didn't try it, tho). The chocolate hazelnut was awesome, the ricotta was great, every fruit sorbet we sampled was such a good representation of each fruit. The cones had great flavor, too. We stopped by several times on our visit to BCN, it was that good! So good we came back 3 times over 3 days. This is the REAL deal, not another tourist trap which sells you "gelato" that has been repeatedly frozen and defrosted every night. The vegan flavors were ridiculously good despite not having any cream/milk in them. I rolled my cynical eyes when I read that the store made a big deal of their sustainable sourcing and responsible practices, but to my surprise it actually made a huge difference and I never got tired of coming back. Highly recommend trying the vegan chocolate, mascarpone, tiramisu, and hazelnut flavors. For realz! This is the best of Barcelona. We walked by on the way to some monument and thought that we would try to check back later to eat gelato. We went out of our way to find it again on our first day here in Barcelona, and we are thrilled we did. We now have come to eat gelato and drink coffee each day (3 so far). I think if my family was up for it, we would come twice a day. The pistachio is my favorite, but my dad and sister have tried numerous combos of any flavor plus the caramel, which is outstanding. Cones are swirled with a warm chocolate sauce inside before adding the gelato so you get an amazing oozy chocolate treat at the end of your cone. My mom gets an amazing coffee each time we roll up. You can try any flavor of gelato before buying and they have many without cream for non-Milk peeps. I don't know how we will survive when we leave in 2 days for Bilbao. We love you Oggi! read more
