We loved this. We stopped in after dinner and it was so good! It seems like a small shop at first, but there was plenty of seating when you get further in. Our group of four had churros with chocolate, crema Catalan, vanilla milkshake, and a chocolate milkshake. The milkshakes are not like American milkshakes. Much thinner and lighter, but still delicious! The milkshakes had fresh whipped cream and a brownie. The vanilla came with a brownie on top, but the staff was willing to put it on the side since one of our group is allergic to chocolate and sharing it with someone who is not. The churros with chocolate was so yummy! The chocolate tasted like warm, thin chocolate pudding- slightly dark but not bitter. Yum! The crema Catalan was DIVINE!! Came in the afternoon to try the churros con chocolate - while the hot chocolate was great, the churros did not taste very fresh. I got my order almost immediately - normally a good thing, but when I'm looking for freshly made churros to try the local specialty I would hope they aren't just sitting out on the side. The hot chocolate felt like essentially a cup of melted chocolate - extremely rich and thick. The churros themselves were only lightly sweetened (with maybe a little salt?) so it went nicely with the chocolate. I also drank some of the chocolate by itself and it was very nice but I was not really able to finish the whole cup. Overall a nice thing to try, but I would definitely look for a place with fresh churros next time. It was unfortunately my last day in Spain so I didn't get to find another. read more

I was out for a gothic tour, and the tour guide recommended this place for their hot chocolate and churros, so I decided to try it out. Churros tasted really good; and, that was the best hot chocolate I have ever had! It was very creamy, and the whipped cream made it even more creamier! I was very impressed by this. Since this place was very good, I decided to come back a second time. I got the same thing as before. I wasn't very impressed by the service the second time. One of the staff members seemed super grumpy. We were trying to look at what they offer (ex. pastries), since they have no hand-held menus, but the one of the worker's insisted that we sat down and ordered at the table. We ordered at the desk last time, and the workers were completely fine with that! It was just that worker though, every other workers have been nice and friendly! The atmosphere around the store appears old. It's a little crowded, and the tables are a little rugged, but it gives you the gothic feeling. I came here while my husband was cooling down in our room. The inside is cute and the girl behind the counter was super friendly. When I walked in, I was the only one in the cafe. I ordered the iced cafe latte and the churros. The coffee was delicious as I found most of the coffee in Barcelona to be great. However, the churros were a little stale compared to the other places we went. It is important to note I did go in the afternoon and not the morning when they may have been more fresh. My first time trying this snack, and it definitely won't be my last! I also tried the Petritxol, since the place is named after it! I didn't know what it was when I ordered. Churros with chocolate! We tried it here and it was amazing. They give you these wonderful thick cups of chocolate, and you dip the churros into it and it's delicious. We also got the crema catalana, which is basically creme brulee and also extremely delicious. We got a chocolate dipped croissant which wasn't crispy at all, disappointingly. Also a chocolate and almond covered cylinder filled with some sort of white chocolate, which was also not my favorite. This was our first stop in Barcelona, and holy moly was it setting the bar high for the rest of the trip. After finding it on Yelp we made our way through some winding back streets and arrived at this quaint little coffee/dessert shop. What was on the menu? Hot chocolate and churros of course. Now you can probably tell from my photo that the hot chocolate was more like a hot chocolate pudding. That doesn't sound appetizing as a type it, but I pinky promise it is. It came in a little tea cup and had a thick film on top. You had to pop it with your spoon and then the gooey chocolate pours out. This is like eggs Benedict level food porn - except it's warm chocolate (which in my opinion is sexier). With my mind blown I relied on my instincts and what I did next was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Right up there with asking my now wife to be my girlfriend and applying for an internship with Yelp.... this was a life changing moment in my life. I dipped the churros in the hot chocolate. The creamy chocolate coated the churro like a thick layer of paint. Now, I have no idea if this is how the locals eat this...but if they don't they should. Super nice woman at the counter walked us through ordering and explained some of the chocolate truffles that my wife ended up getting (and I snagged a bite of). Tucked away from all the hustle and bustle of Barcelona is Xocoa, a cute little chocolate/bakery on a small side street off of La Rambla. I actually heard about this place because it was on the "hidden street of chocolate," and well, I really, really like chocolate, so obviously I had to check it out. I initially walked by the place but came back because my sister and I wanted to try churros y chocolate for the first time. So we grabbed a little table and ordered the churros and chocolate! The churros were delicious and topped with sugar. Sometimes the churros don't come with sugar on top, which can either be a great thing or a bad thing depending on how quickly you want to go into a diabetic coma. I was onboard with this plan so I didn't mind the extra sugar at all. The churros were cooked perfectly and the sugar complemented them very well. The chocolate here is a little different than the other chocolate I had in Spain, mostly because it was milk chocolate and not as dark as the kind I had at San Gines. It was still pretty good, however -- perfectly thick and wonderful to dip the churros in. The two women working at the shop were both very friendly. The bakery was full of amazing looking treats including these massive chocolate/rice balls. I don't know what they were actually called but they looked intense and amazing. I would have gotten one, but I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish it. I'm being 1000% serious when I say they might have been as large as my head. Great experience, cute place. Would recommend to all who want to try some baked goods in Barca and don't want to be surrounded by crowds and crowds of people. read more

Very disappointed in this place. I saw many reviews on yelp on how good these churros were, but the ones I got were not hot and probably not made fresh. The chocolate that we dipped the churros in was not sweet at all and neither was the whipped cream on the side. I'm not sure if this is how the churros are always served here, but I would not recommend this place. I think there are other places in Barcelona to get better churros. Stopped in here after a long walk and exhaustive search for churros. We wanted to go to another churro place highly regarded on Yelp, churreria laietana, but it was closed when we got there, so we went down the list. We tried a piece of cake which was like Black Forest cake. It was ok. We also tried these large Carmel ball pastry which was like a balled up pie crust with a caramel icing. It was very difficult to break apart and really wasn't anything special. Lastly we had churros. The reason we came! They too were not very great. A bit cold. And didn't appear to be freshly made. We ended up trying churros at Xurreria in the El Born area as part of a food tour. They were excellent. So it's 4pm in the afternoon and you've been walking all day. You are still full from a hefty lunch but it's still definitely too early for dinner so you are looking for a snack. Then there's advertisements of churros and melted chocolate. Your eyes open wide and your stomach starts to growl so you step into a shop. I stepped into Xocoa. The place is located in one of the many street near Las Ramblas. The place has a number of tables and wait for it.. free WiFi! A traveler's only wish when using all this data to get around. The servers are there immediately to greet you and provide you with a menu. I came here for one thing only. Churros and chocolate. So I ordered that assuming it's one dish but nope, it's really two items but whatever. The churros are already made and they just add additional sugar on top. On the side you get a pretty hefty sized glass of chocolate. In terms of the taste of the churros, I thought they were too crispy and not as hot as I would've liked. They come in bows so you get to play with the food a bit while breaking the churro in two. The chocolate was very velvety and rich. Mill chocolate with a hint of the dark chocolate flavor. There is definitely enough chocolate for the churros that you could possibly order another order of churros but if you don't want to do that, Xocoa understands people's chocolate obsession and provides a little spoon so you can pretty much just scoop out melted chocolate to eat. What makes this place a 4 star place is the service. There were 3 servers during the hour or so that I was there and I felt that the service was on point. Always willing to help and super quick in getting your order or anything else you need. The restrooms also very clean, so if you need to go, it's a good place. Again, the churros are not the best I've had imo but I think they were decent. The chocolate was better than the churros but they work well together. The service and free wifi makes this place bumped up that star. A great place to take a break from the hustle of Barcelona. read more

We happened to be walking through the famous Pertitxol street and happened to see all the chocolate goodness at this place. We'd already had some chocolate and churros at a couple of other spots and weren't completely impressed - this spot however, was impressive - they had good, thick and creamy hot chocolate. This place was so good, we actually went there 3 times in 2 days! While the churros were good, the hot chocolate was great on its own - warm and thick and very rich and creamy, a perfect dessert. What I really wanted to do that day was eat churros - affordable & chocolatey churros. My cousin Di & I tried to find this famous churros place somewhere beyond the tourist areas, & we ended up somewhere with not many people on the streets & too many graffiti on the walls. We returned here a second time, after our trip to Rome & Paris, & at this point my cousin said she noticed they most probably get their churros from the nearby Xurreria. Disculpa, but the dark chocolate ball was disappointing. I remember thinking I could just as well have eaten the wrapping paper it came in, because that's what I thought it tasted like. Was it worth its price of €3+? No. It was big, but neither sweet nor chocolate-y enough. We stayed at a BNB, & I remember asking our host if there are chocolate places worth visiting in BCN. In my mind, I kind of associated chocolates with Spain, because of Spanish (hot) chocolate & I specifically remember reading 1 Barcelona BNB review wherein the host said his apartment was near some chocolate factory, & that you could literally smell the chocolate wafting through the air, from his apartment. But Barcelona is Catalonia, & our host said, "We're not really a chocolate country - we get our chocolate from Switzerland, France, etc." As you walk around the Barri Gotic area, you'll find yourself tired after having done a ton of shopping. You'll come across Xocoa, & you will stop to check out their store design (which is quite nice, really). If it's raining, you'll find yourself thinking you want a cup of their hot cocoa, or 1 of the many chocolate products they offer. Maybe their chocolates for sale (I saw flavors like Wasabi, framboise, etc.) are good. Maybe the other stuff on their menu is good. Not sure, because I didn't buy any, but for what they charge, I really did expect better chocolate quality. read more

Our tour guide said that the street that this place is on he likes to call "churro street" because there is a large concentration of churros spots and you can smell the chocolate when strolling down the street. The churros were a bit harder than the ones I'm used to from Mexico. We were a little surprised when the woman at the counter said you can't get just one, which was fine because we split them and they were smaller than others I've had. The chocolate was extremely rich. We were all in a chocolate coma when we finished. It was a good sweetness level, yet still muy rico. The cafe was cute and they have other desserts too. Knowing that churros & chocolate was a local staple we began our hunt. We were recommended this place by some locals, which in my opinion is always the way to go! I had a large group with me, which I know can be a pain! We accepted we couldn't sit together and ordered separately so we wouldn't overwhelm the counter. Even with that, the place was packed and staff was overwhelmed. While the churros were amazing and the chocolate divine, not all of us got our food together or at all at some point. Communication was tricky and since I was with a younger crowd the staff thought they were lying. Ultimately it got fixed but it was the longest snack break we ever took! Great friendly owner and staff! Their dipping hot chocolate is smooth and sweet but not overly sweet. The texture is just perfect and doesn't turn into a pudding like mess which I've had in other places. They don't make their own churros, I saw an elderly man passing them a paper bag of churros while we were waiting for our churros. Wherever they're getting the churros from is amazing with the dipping chocolate. It's nice and crispy and not too heavy. First stop in Barcelona and boy it did not disappoint! This place is absolutely adorable. Walking in, you are greeted by happy faces and tons of chocolate. We sat down and a very sweet lady came to take our order. My husband decided to order churros and hot cocoa and I asked for a soy cappucino and a truffle ball. My soy cappucino was delicious - so yummy and creamy. The truffle ball was out of this world. The chocolated melted in my tongue as soon as I bit into it, and the dark chocolate was strong enough without being too bitter - just perfect! I had to steal a couple of churros from my husband's plate. They were recently fried and were still warm. I did not like the thickness of the hot cocoa (which served both as a drink and a dipper for the churros) so I skipped it and had the churros with just powdered sugar instead. I thought they were perfect like that. Not too sweet, not too heavy. I couldve ate a whole basket, but decided to pace myself because there plenty of other Spanish treats to indulge in. My husband really liked his hot cocoa, he really enjoyed the thickness of it (it resembled pudding). We said we would return for more, but unfortunately did not make it back before heading out of Barcelona. Im really bummed we didn't return because it was one of my favorite bites in Spain. Super cute little bakery shop. We stopped by just to grab something sweet since we were both really craving some tasty chocolate. Decided on the Xurros y chocolat. The chocolate was very good; however, the xurros were a little bit stale. I think they had fried them up earlier and they gave us what was left, which is more than what we ordered, so that was nice--but fresh and hot would have been better. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helped me with my broken spanish/catalan. I'd like to come back to try one of those cake ball things! read more
