Great RV Park, the best in Gettysburg. Highly recommended, close to all attractions.

We're here right now, been for a few days. What a great place! The people, both staff and campers are friendly and outgoing, and you can't beat the location being right by the battlefield park entrance. My biggest thing in any campground is the cleanliness of the bathroom, and these are spotless. Special shout out to Cory Miller, an employee there for helping us out of a bind with our water system. Artillery Ridge Campground - Horseback Riding Near Me - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Stayed here over 4th of July weekend. We liked the majority of our stay. The camp store was awesome and the staff were friendly. The short walk to the museum was a plus. They brought in outside vendors and music which was nice. The only negative aspect is the place is a parking lot. The sites are too close together and multiple sites had 4 plus cars in the "street" which hindered big rigs. If you pick an end site expect other campers to walk through your site. Overall though it was a pleasant experience. read more

We rented a cabin for our visit. It was very clean. We enjoyed seeing the horses around the park, the farmers market and food truck. The proximity to the national park was fantastic. A really nice campground. We would definitely visit again. read more

Stayed here two nights for the express reason of visiting Gettysburg. Perfect location. We rode our bikes to the battleground and nearby businesses and the town itself. Nice campground with nice splash pad/pool area. Easy after hours check-in. We will stay here again when we come back next year. This time we'll take advantage of the horses! read more

August, 2022 We have stayed here quite a few times. This review is an overall synopsis This campground is under new ownership. In the past, the sites were not level, very little shade and unkempt grass areas. There was nothing really to do on premises if you didn't have a horse. Since the new owners took over, some things have remained the same and some have improved. Over the last few years, we have stayed in 4 different sites. All were not level and nothing has changed there. The grass areas are not really taken care of that well as in many campgrounds. They contract out for grass cutting. I know this because I saw them here. There is still not much shade but so do your research before you reserve. Since our last visit just a few months ago, they have installed a beautiful pool, covered pavilion, mini-golf and corn hole boards. They really did an outstanding job in this! The wifi is usually bad at campgrounds in general but here is the worst I have ever seen. They also do not have cable hook-up. Be careful of the workers (housekeepers for the cabins and bathrooms) on the golf carts. The speed limit is 9 mph on premises but they fly around here as if in a NASCAR competition, causing alot of undue dust. Just moments ago, a young lady was flying through the campground on her golf cart while using her cell phone and almost hit a tree. The staff I had interactions with are not friendly but not mean. You get a feeling as if you are bothering them. One girl at the front desk was on Facebook as I approached. She seemed annoyed that I had a question. How do I know it was Facebook? I could see it when she sighed and slammed her phone on the counter to help me. One staff member opened up to me about the new owners pricing policy. Apparently you get the lowest price if you book very early but once the campground is half full for that timeframe, the price gets jacked up. I don't know. This just doesn't seem very nice but according to her this is the new thing for campgrounds in general. All in all....would I stay here again? Yes. Primarily for the closeness to the battlefield. We investigated and now know a few level sites that would suite our preferences. This place is not "KOA" friendly and clean but it is close to the battlefield. I hope the new owners can make a difference here. I know it might take time but I would love to be able to give this 5 stars. read more

We visited mid October, check in was easy. We camped in a tent near the horse stables, but the cabins looked great. The campground was spotless. The facilities and showers were super clean, lots of hot water, located centrally. Highly recommend. Great experience. read more

Maybe I'm in the minority but I am sorely disappointed to see the 'development' going on-- swimming pool, slick clubhouse, more RV sites. This place was rather unique in its rustic ambience. You could imagine yourself in 1865, with the Boy Scouts tenting in an open field and horses in the stable (and the sound of gunshots?). Although it abuts the national park, there is cricket song at night, birdsong in the pearly dawn. Fake buildings labeled 'saloon' and 'sheriff' and 'jail' lend a Civil War flavour. The bathrooms and the laundry room are spotless. The wifi is fast and reliable. Our seventh year here. We like to think we're camping, not staying at some hotel or KOA. They could have doubled the rates and it would have been fine with us. read more

What a beautiful campground !! We just stayed Saturday afternoon into Sunday am . Horses were off in pasture area , lovely to watch . The pool / pavilion area was spectacular !! It looks like they may have just put it in . Pool was big with,lots of steps leading into the pool . Great for moms with infants . Sprinkle area for small children was still in installation process . Campsites we're spacious ( we have 42') fifth wheel . They were pretty level . Picnic tables also looked to be very new And sturdy . Bathroom/ shower were clean and well stocked . Staff was extremely courteous and friendly . We are definitely looking forward to coming here again !! read more

We had a great time. The park is centrally located to all things Gettysburg. In fact, the campground was used for artillery storage during the war. And, it is the only campground that butts up to the battlefield. You can breathe the history in the air! The park is good size, but not overwhelming. There is a pool (not open yet when we were there, but it looked nice), miniature golf, a game room, catch and release fishing, and horse stables. The only drawback, I would not recommend camping on an "end" unit. Other folks walk there dogs through "your" area and the kids ride their bikes and golf carts through there as well; so stay away from the end spots. Other than that, the area is great and the campground is clean. Would definitely return! read more

Best Campground! We were so insanely close to the Gettysburg trail and downtown area. The staff was very friendly so soon as we arrived we were greeted with a smile and they had our paperwork ready to go. The sites are well-maintained and offer full hookups. Also, lots of tent space available, if you prefer. Many sites with and without trees depending on your preference. The kids throughly enjoyed seeing the horses throughout the campground. The bathroom, shower, and laundry facilities are close to most of the sites. The camp store offers many of your camping needs plus a ton of fun civil war items. The pool is perfect for cooling off or burning your kids' energy. There is a pond for catch and release fishing and game room. The entire campground is just beautiful. This is such a wonderful and relaxing place. read more

My wife and I tent camped here for three nights last week. The campground itself was nice. The tent camping area was pretty basic but deserted when we were there (we heard that they get VERY packed on weekends FYI), restrooms, decent looking laundry room and firewood vending machine. The location really couldn't be better. You can literally walk across the street and be in the battlefield. Very short drive to downtown Gettysburg. My only complaint would be that the camp store we visited several times insisted that everyone wear a mask to enter but the managerial lady who was always there was nice but not wearing a mask read more

Dear National Riding Stables, I had always dreamed of visiting you and my visit met and exceeded my expectations. Your staff was so patient and informative when they gave the novice horseback riders a lesson in safety. My best friend had never been on a horse and you put her at ease. Me? I was uncertain I'd be excited or bored to ride a trail horse but the Belgian you let me ride... oh. Stunning. I'd always wanted to ride a draft horse and feel so big and tall. After getting on our horses, we were led across the road and into the National Military Park to see Gettysburg battlefield. It was eery and beautiful to think I was travelling the same way those soldiers did on a horse. It was strange to think so many men had died on the ground we tread. The ear bud was informative telling you about the battle. I know I saw more of Gettysburg in two hours on a horse than anyone ever could from a car, reading plaques. We went on trails that would have taken hours for a regular human to hike to... This was a magical experience. On one high field past the farm houses, there were tiny flagstones in the grass, carefully mowed. Our guide told us they were recently discovered makeshift headstones. I can't imagine dying on a hillside and someone giving you a simple flat rock because it was the best they could do. I wish your staff and horses many more successful years of educating people about Gettysburg in the most powerful manner. We were touched, moved, and educated all at the same time. My wife and have camped here a couple times. We will be going back soon. This is one of the nicer campgrounds I've been to. It's not the greatest, but it is nice. I don't think any gravel pad will be exactly level. These were close. Driving around I did see some pads that need work. But, every campground I've been to have had that issue. As others have mentioned; walk across the road and you're on the battlefield. One of the best things is this place is that it's right next to National Riding Stable which is a horse rescue. All the horses here have been rescued from abuse/neglect. National Riding Stable also offers a horseback tour of the battlefield. The horses for our tour were very well trained, gentle, and easy to ride even for the beginning rider. The guide was very knowledgeable of the battle and good at her job. The tour was a very enjoyable experience. If you like camping with your horse, this is the PERFECT place. They offer covered stalls, single, double, triple, and quad horse corrals, round pen, and fenced arena. This place was built from the ground up with equestrians in mind. The only real downside to this park is the "seasonal" campers. Some of them look like they haven't moved in several years. Some are a little run down. That does, slightly, detract from the atmosphere. One other thing lacking at this site that I've seen at other places are "buddy sites". Where one camper pulls in one way and another pulls in the opposite way so you share a common area. So, even if you're camping side by side with friends, one of you is looking at the back of the other person's camper. PS If you're using your GPS to navigate here and it tells you to exit onto Baltimore Pike, DON'T do it! Granite Schoolhouse Lane is very narrow. Take the Tanneytown Road (rt 134) exit instead. read more

This campground is a big joke it promises all kinds of amenities and it's supposed to have seasonal sites , well as a seasonal , been there a many of years was moved from the top to the back and was told we would not be bothered again now all of a sudden one year later we're being told that we have to get out .I do not recommend this campground at all The owner is not looking out for the campers, all he is concerned about is the almighty dollar if this is how he is to treat people when they come in don't bother doing it You're wasting your money ,they promise you all kinds of stuff there's no mini golf course there's no splash pad / pool there's nothing for the kids to do It's sickening There have been people that have been there for many many years not just myself but I know people that's been there for 30 years plus and he has not treated us like a campground owner should , he has not had the balls to even call the seasonals together to let them know that this is what was going to happen instead he sends out a text message and then later you get this little itty bitty note that he called a letter that didn't mount to a hill of beans. If he wouldn't have screwed up with all these permits and pissing people off he might have been able to do what he was supposed to do but no instead he got to be greedy and his greed has caused all the seasonals to suffer or I should say most of the seasonals. It's not fair and it's not right. if he wouldn't have screwed up and did things the right way for the campground it might have turned out to be pretty nice place. But that's what happens when you become greedy , but right now it looks like a grown-up field with places to park a trailer which is called transits. So my advice to you is don't waste your money your time or your trip It's not worth it. I normally don't post things like this but this is just ridiculous I've never ever in my life been treated as poorly as what happened this past year by this campground owner so I'm really advising you do not waste your money your time or travel it's not worth it. read more

My husband and I were just at Artillery Ridge for the weekend. First let me say the owner GOD rest his soul past away last year and thier is new Ownership the Ott family i was told. Let's just say they are loosing business quickly. We went camping at least 8 times a year here but not anymore after our experience this weekend. It was supposed to be Scrapbooking weekend, that did not happen. No scrapbooking, no DJ or music for kids or adults! The only activity was Ghost stories around the campfire. The new owners were not around to even meet or even be seen! The bathrooms and showers were so dirty and no toilet paper 3 times while i was there for 3 days. The office was not open at all on Sunday. Now they have changed the activities schedule again and not offering BINGO or a DJ at all this summer! I SAY U WANT TO HAVE FUN, A DJ, BINGO AND STILL BE CLOSE TO BATTLEFIELD AND SEE THE OWNER AND OPERATOR OF A GOOD CAMPGROUND GO TO GETTYSBURG CAMPGROUND, ROBERT AND HIS FAMILY ARE ALWAYS THERE! read more

I can't really tell you what this place is like because they cancelled my reservation. In October I booked 3 sites for Memorial Day weekend. I booked in advance because it is a holiday weekend and I want us and the 2 families going to be near each other. In January they called to say that they were making the sites we choose into permanent sites. But they would move us to a new area being constructed and we could all stay together. I had no idea how big the sites would be but really had no choice as most places were already booked for the holiday weekend. So yesterday they call and cancel altogether because their construction is t done. They can't move us back because now those sites are booked. WTH. So they will put us in a waiting list and the chances of 3 opening up is nil. So now 3 months before memorial day it's hard enough to find 1 spot at this point but 3. My recommendation don't book here even 9 months ahead of time cause they will screw you at the last minute. Btw still waiting for my refund! read more

This is a review of the 2 hour horseback ride through the battlefield. I am so glad we decided to do this. We left at 9AM and returned around 11AM. They take you to see how the battles unfolds as you are riding horseback. They give you a headset where you place one ear bud over your ear as the tour guide gives you a 2 hour history lesson. The other ear you keep open to listen to the guides for the horses. We went out with a group of about 11 and 4 farm hands and i guide. Our guide was full of knowledge and we got to see so much. From Little Round top, to Big Round top, to Pickett's Charge. If you are looking for a great way to see Gettysburg I highly recommend. It was well worth the $80. My wife had never been on a horse and they gave her the basic lessons and she was fine on the 2 hour tour. Make sure to make reservations we learned the hard way and had to settle for 2 days out as it is very popular on the weekend. The weather could not have been more perfect as it never topped 72. We got very lucky and made for a more enjoyable ride. read more

So, we have been here last year and loved it. Awesome atmosphere. Decided to come back this June. Last year we booked over the phone and they placed on a great spot so we could enjoy the site after exploring Gettysburg. This year, we booked online. Put in the length of our camper ( mind you, same camper and car we took last year) and were given a site. Arrived and found out there were new owners. Ok. Get to our site. Think there is no way our camper and car will fit. We get it in. But there was no room for anything outside. An older woman came around an hour after we arrived and to check in to see if we had paid(??) which we had and she then remembered me. Then i mention how we weren't happy with our spot bc there was no room and it barely fit with the car. Said that "her daughter had a 42 ft camper there and it was fine"... do i love Gettysburg? Absolutely. Will i go back to Gettysburg? Absolutely. Will i go back here? Nope. Expensive sites. Little room. And just not the same atmosphere we fell in love with last year. We stayed at this campground while visiting Gettysburg PA. It's a great place! The sites are large and not too close to each other. There are lots of trees and it's dog- friendly. We don't have satellite TV and this campground doesn't offer cable, but we got over 10 stations with just our antenna so we were good with that. They have a laundry room, bathrooms and showers for those camping more 'primitive' than us. Overall, definitely a great place to stay while in Gettysburg! Staff was friendly and accommodating; the sites were laid out conveniently as well as the campground is convenient to battlefield touring, area attraction's, and downtown Gettysburg. I tent camped here for one night the Friday of Labor Day weekend. They still had a tent spot available when we showed up :) The tent site was nice, though a little hard to find - it was flat and had a fire pit and a picnic table. The RV neighbors had adorable lights set up and a cute garden. The staff was VERY nice, they have a cool little store with food/drinks/stuff to buy (including shot glasses from every state, interesting). The bathroom could have been a little bit cleaner and the bathroom stalls were a little bit on the small side, but it was nice enough. I'd definitely stay again, and the location is very convenient to downtown and the battlefield sites. read more

Nice people and nice horses. I did the two hour ride. They let me go back and pet the horse I'd be riding. Once everyone was mounted, the mother, can't remember names, gave us some history on the battle and area. Then we rode to the the national park, which was a few hundred feet across the street. Next we stopped by a house in the park, turned our horses to face the street. We were then told about the house and what happened there during the battle. Meanwhile the leader checked everyone's girth for saftey and sprayed the horses with my fly spray. We rode some more, on the bridle path that meandered around through fields and woods. Stopped at another house, did the facing the road again and another history speech. This time the trail leader went down the line taking photos for everyone. Rode out some more and stopped for a final time. Again had the history lesson and another girth check. Then it was a straight ride back, occasionally stopping so the slower horses could catch up. Everyone was very friendly and the horses seemed well taken care of and friendly. read more

The cabin was cute, but it was definitely pricey and maybe not really worth it. There were flies and ants in the cabin that definitely would have been a problem if we stayed more than one night. Check in was at 4 and check out was at 11 so it definitely didn't give you much time to explore amenities if you also wanted to check out the town. The staff is wonderful!! We are tent campers but my husband and son in law needed electricity so we had to get RV sites, since none of the tent sites have electricity, that had no shade and were all gravel. The bathrooms were small and not very clean. The kids had a good time playing mini-golf and swimming in the pool. I would probably stay here again if I had an RV with my own bathroom but as a tent camper probably not. read more

We came here for the cabin. The campground is small but enough space for the campers and RVs. The cabins are all the way hidden in the back which was nice and quiet. It's also walking distance to the office. I like how you can park your cars right in front of the cabins. The staff was helpful and friendly. The campground is generally clean and so were the cabin. Great Place to stay good price and real close to the historic battle field and Eisenhower Farm

My wife was thrown from one of their horses during the ride due to their neglect, lack of guidance, and ignoring warning signs. They handled the situation miserably. No apology, no compensation, and they acted like it never happened. After they got everyone together, their "training" was a 5 minute video about how to control your horse. It was a quick run through of tips on what to do. After watching the video, you could tell people just had a bad feeling about this. I think most of the people assume the horses are already trained, and it shouldn't be a novice rider's responsibility to control an animal that weighs a ton. My wife's horse was twitching a lot and bucking his back legs, not relaxed or calm at all. We pointed this out to the attendant and asked if we should take a different horse. They told us it was because he had flies on him, and they sprayed him with some kind of bug spray (while my wife was sitting on him). The behavior continued but they seemed to be in a hurry to get us going. During the trip, the poor management of the ride was shown. There was a lot of abrupt stopping, none of the guides talked to you, and you pretty much felt on your own controlling your horse. We were told in the beginning to keep spacing between the horses at a distance of about 4 feet, but trust me when I tried to do this, they yelled at me to speed up my horse. While we were doing a turn around and waiting, a little boy in front of me was complaining about his stirrups being too big. He told the attendant and she said he's fine, just finish the ride. Mind you, this is the half way point of an hour trip and she tells him he's fine. So he complained to her again that his feet were falling out. She told the lead guide that we need to stop and fix his stirrups, and she let out a big huff, like she was irritated. She then proceeded to make comments about how we had to wait to fix the boys stirrups, making him feel bad about wanting to fix them. Next we came to a road. During this stopped time my wife's horse was getting bit by the horse behind her. He started getting out of control to avoid the biting, and my wife called the attention of the attendant. She said "Oh my god, what do I do?!" The attendant responded with, "you're fine, we're moving soon." Well we didn't move soon and rather than split up the horses, they let it go. And guess what happened? My wife's horse began to buck and rode off away from the group, THROWING HER FROM THE HORSE. She landed about 3 feet from a large rock wall. When she landed, she hit her head really hard. The attendant that was supposed to be in the middle, of course wasn't. Two attendants came running over to check on her while she was laying on the ground and one came to get control of her horse. Being her husband, you can imagine I wanted to check on her. The woman wouldn't let me off my horse to see my wife and made me continue. I was FURIOUS. I wanted to check on my wife and they made me ride away from her. While we were riding away, my wife said they tried to force her back on her horse, the one she'd just been thrown from. Again, I was furious. It looked like this was the first time this had happened to these guides and they looked dumbfounded on what to do. It was almost like they had no training on how to handle emergency situations. The guide in front was telling people they needed to fill out incident reports, telling the people what to write. I was in this group listening, and AGAIN I WAS FURIOUS. That was the longest 10 minutes of my life, as I had no idea how my wife was other than the attendant telling me "she's fine." Once back in the stable I told the attendant I wanted to go see my wife. She was brought back in by a golf cart and waiting at the front office. The attendant ignored me and went to other people and their horses. I was really annoyed so I got off the horse myself. The attendant saw this and yelled at me, to which I responded I wanted to see my wife. I walked out of the stable to find my wife and she was at the office crying. Much different than what they told me. She was complaining about pains in her head and she said she told the attendants this but they offered no help. The office offered no apologies to me, they offered no compensation for what happened, and didn't even address the issue. The only two people who weren't given incident reports were us... shocking huh? I went in the office to get two incident reports and filled them out. We were both novice riders, and even though they knew this, they offered no additional assistance or guidance to us. When we asked for help, it was like we were bothering them and the whole thing was rushed. They ignored problems people were having and tried to just keep moving, and didn't want to be bothered by them. Their neglect, lack of attentiveness, and poor group management caused my wife to be thrown from a horse and get hurt. They handled the situation miserably and were overall very rude. read more

I can't say enough good things about this campground. After my travel companion deserted my mother and I at a previous campground, Mom and I had absolutely no transportation, other than the motorhome we were traveling in. However, the people at Artillery Ridge were so very helpful - I am disabled and Mom is 80+ so we can't walk very far. Thank you, Ray, for the Uber rides! And for your tree trimming techniques! Overall, the campground was a clean, quiet, and roomy. I understand it is under new management so I don't know how it used to be but we enjoyed our time there. We scheduled a bus tour of the battlefield and the company picked us up/dropped us off right at the campground. read more

With recently raised prices for hookups and horse camping (now double the price) I would expect the upkeep of the horse area to be better than it was, but it's not. If anything, it's worse. Very tall weeds in all pens make it hard to clean up after the horse when it's expected of owners to leave a clean pen. Riding arena is unuseable due to tall weeds and hard as rock, uneven footing - it's horrible. Round pen footing just as bad. I would expect to see improvement since prices were raised considerably. The cost for a small weedy pen is way too much. Pluses were that the horse trails upkept by the park are across the street from the campground and nice to ride, campground is close to town, receptionist was nice, and the bathhouse was clean. read more

On a whim decided to go horseback riding and are we glad we did! It was the best thing we did the entire week we were there. I'd definitely go here again. Our guides were Meg and Sean, a delightful couple, we seemed to bond and had so much fun together! It was amazing to ride along the battlefield and imagine the soldiers at war and the people that lived back then. It's a beautiful site, and Meg and Sean made it even more so simply by being the people they are. The horses were well behaved and well cared for, you could tell they were dearly loved.
