Staff were fun, easy to engage and made all participants feel welcomed and comfortable no matter their riding experience. As a solo party they made me feel welcomed and included. The horses were wonderfully well behaved. The tour guide was knowledgeable and easy to engage. The tour guide informed us that this is a female owned business and is highly ethical. They have many horses so they never have to use the same ones each day. Would definitely recommend and will be returning I'm sure!

The pros: The staff is awesome. They get 6 stars. They did a great job explaining safety and how to handle the horse. This is extremely helpful for those with no riding experience. They provide helmets and a radio receiver with an earbud to listen to some canned recording explaining some background of personnel, battles, and music. You get to ride right next to some historic buildings and farmhouses that you wouldn't be able to on a road or bus tour. The cons: Unless you get a certified guide, they are not allowed to narrate the history of the battle as you ride along the trail. We did not have a guide along with our group for the ride so it was fairly quiet most of the ride. Unless you are very well versed with the locations of the army units and battle locations, the ride might be a bit confusing. If you can tie this into the end of a visit to Gettysburg with the museum, film, bus or car tour, then it will be a blast.

Our goal is to help our riders be more that just a rider. There is more to being an equestrian. Understanding basic elements of horse care and equipment are essential to this purpose. Our riding environment, lessons and techniques also differs from many facilities in the area as well. Our philosophy and focus here is to develop a positive learning environment and a sense of team while focusing on the needs of the horse and rider. We want to create an atmosphere of mutual encouragement, respect and communication. The exchanging of ideas and team building, while incorporating fun, creative lessons and activities, are encouraged. Lessons will concentrate on both horse and rider by means of individualized lessons geared for the horse and rider's appropriate skill level. We want to give the rider a better understanding of horse behavior and their own tendencies and how that affects the bio-mechanics of both themselves and the horse. This understanding will make them critical thinkers and better riders and as a result benefit their horses. If this interests you, please contact us or setup an setup an appointment to come out to the facility and learn more.

Terry and her team are very welcoming and super knowledgeable on the history of Gettysburg and the horses. You can tell the staff cares and loves all the horses that they work with. They knew all of their quirks and past history. All these horses are rescued and it is so amazing to have the opportunity to contribute to this organization and ride a horse who has been built up by this amazing caring team. I had the pleasure of riding Gus who is an ex Amish work horse and the gentlest giant. Terry is truly so kind, accommodating, and very educated about the history of the battlefield and her horses. Her story telling was great and I could picture everything happening as Terry was explaining it to us. Terry also gave us the confidence to mount and ride our horses through the trails and how to properly handle them. The views were amazing and we had a great view of the blue ridge mountains in sight. We also had the pleasure of a nice breeze brushing through the peaceful battlefields as we rode the very tidy and well kept trails. If I could do this everyday I would and I'm so thankful to Terry and her team for giving my sister and I this experience to always look back on and remember. If you're looking for something to do in Gettysburg don't miss out on this horse tour, not only will you have a great experience but you'd be supporting a fantastic team and all that they work so hard for. Thank you for having us Terry and we will definitely be back!

These people are exceptional because they have rescued the horses and they literally teach you about horses so you can be a very comfortable rider (how to read their ear cues, why they stop, how to bond with them) even if you never ridden before. The horses were all well trained and even tempered so don't worry if you are taking the kids, they will love it. The history that you see and hear is amazing and would be impossible to do by yourself in a car. They really explained what the families who lived in the farms went through as well as the soldiers, doctors, officers and battlefield horses. It really was the best way to see and learn about the Gettysburg battlegrounds. I really can't say enough good things about the experience. If you can get a spot, you're lucky!

My daughters, age 7 and 9, have been riding with B.J. for two years now. Not only have they become better riders, but they have also learned proper horse care, how to be more responsible and to work as a team. They are constantly begging me to go spend more time at the barn and would probably live there if I let them. Does B.J. have set expectations for her students? Of course. When you are working with living, breathing, 1000lb animals this is a necessity. Safety is the number one priority and rules need to be adhered to not only to keep the kids safe, but the horses as well. Not having expectations for her students would only lead to a human or horse getting hurt. Policies for lessons, being a member of the show team, and payment are clearly explained, in writing, when you first begin at the farm. It is the responsibility of the students (or parents) to read and understand them. Being a member of the show team has been an amazing experience for my girls. They work hard at lessons each week to help reach their goals at the show. BJ preaches progress over ribbons and is always proud of what each of the show team members accomplish at every show. Sometimes it's overcoming being nervous in schooling and then having a great ride. Other times it's just being where you're supposed to be and following through on your responsibilities. All the show team kids help each other, root for each other and have a created a truly special bond. B.J. has become a great mentor for my kids. I am so thankful for what she has done for them as equestrians and people. If you are looking for somewhere for your kids (or yourself) to learn how to ride, learn responsibility, teamwork and how to care for and respect horses, I highly recommend Star Lance Farm.

Megan's mom taught BJ how to ride horses and they have been best friends for like their entire lives so of course she will get on here and say what she's saying. Also, I have only left one review no one else in my household left the other review. My child's mental health slowly degraded over the 2 1/2 years we worked with BJ, and we are not her only students to feel this way. BJ knows she has this problem and tries to hide it from new people. So you'll go through a process of being love bombed by her before the abuse starts. After a year of working with her, my daughter had to start therapy. I attempted to explain this to her and work with her and reach our goal of the colonial classic horse show but her explosive anger and verbal abuse continued not only towards my child but the other students and her husband Joey as well. She has explosive, uncontrolled anger towards her horses as soon as they don't do what she wants, punching them in the head and hitting them with all her strength with farrier files. My entire families mental health has improved since we've cut ties with BJ. If I could give less than one star I would. My daughter is happier than I've seen her literally in two years since we decided a week ago that we would no longer associate with BJ and her Barn. Now she refuses to even refund our paid ahead lesson money. Word of warning to her current and potential future students: do not pay her ahead and record her constantly.
