The care and time she puts in to her horses is reflected by the amazing fitness level and happy attitude her animals have. She makes the lessons fun as well as very informative on how best to take care of a horse. My daughter absolutely adores Lisa, and they share the same connection with each other, that they share with the love of horses.

My daughters, age 7 and 9, have been riding with B.J. for two years now. Not only have they become better riders, but they have also learned proper horse care, how to be more responsible and to work as a team. They are constantly begging me to go spend more time at the barn and would probably live there if I let them. Does B.J. have set expectations for her students? Of course. When you are working with living, breathing, 1000lb animals this is a necessity. Safety is the number one priority and rules need to be adhered to not only to keep the kids safe, but the horses as well. Not having expectations for her students would only lead to a human or horse getting hurt. Policies for lessons, being a member of the show team, and payment are clearly explained, in writing, when you first begin at the farm. It is the responsibility of the students (or parents) to read and understand them. Being a member of the show team has been an amazing experience for my girls. They work hard at lessons each week to help reach their goals at the show. BJ preaches progress over ribbons and is always proud of what each of the show team members accomplish at every show. Sometimes it's overcoming being nervous in schooling and then having a great ride. Other times it's just being where you're supposed to be and following through on your responsibilities. All the show team kids help each other, root for each other and have a created a truly special bond. B.J. has become a great mentor for my kids. I am so thankful for what she has done for them as equestrians and people. If you are looking for somewhere for your kids (or yourself) to learn how to ride, learn responsibility, teamwork and how to care for and respect horses, I highly recommend Star Lance Farm.

Bj is verbally and emotionally abusive. Edit to add: you…read moremay see a review here by Megan. Megan's mom taught BJ how to ride horses and they have been best friends for like their entire lives so of course she will get on here and say what she's saying. Also, I have only left one review no one else in my household left the other review. My child's mental health slowly degraded over the 2 1/2 years we worked with BJ, and we are not her only students to feel this way. BJ knows she has this problem and tries to hide it from new people. So you'll go through a process of being love bombed by her before the abuse starts. After a year of working with her, my daughter had to start therapy. I attempted to explain this to her and work with her and reach our goal of the colonial classic horse show but her explosive anger and verbal abuse continued not only towards my child but the other students and her husband Joey as well. She has explosive, uncontrolled anger towards her horses as soon as they don't do what she wants, punching them in the head and hitting them with all her strength with farrier files. My entire families mental health has improved since we've cut ties with BJ. If I could give less than one star I would. My daughter is happier than I've seen her literally in two years since we decided a week ago that we would no longer associate with BJ and her Barn. Now she refuses to even refund our paid ahead lesson money. Word of warning to her current and potential future students: do not pay her ahead and record her constantly.

Michele's careful and personalized attention has brought my guy health and happiness. Having constant turnout in giant pastures with other horses, as well as unlimited hay and ample grain has made him perfectly plump and healthy. Her thoughtful, kind, and strategic approach to training my ottb has made him more than happy to work and given him the balance and confidence to do things I once thought impossible. But the biggest thing more me is her patience with me. I was scared of my horse that I didn't understand. Michele has taught me how to better horse owner, horse listener, and given my boy and I confidence and trust in each other. Finally, with her network of top-notch professionals (farrier, vet, etc.) my guy is...dare I say...an easy keep?! I couldn't live this place more. When I was forced to move to a few years after coming here, I chose to keep my guy here and visit monthly. It breaks my heart being away from him but I can't imagine taking him away from the family, comfort, and trustworthiness of M&S.

Their hospitality leading up to the ride was fantastic, the weather was a bit 'iffy' so we ended up pushing back to later in the afternoon. It was still a bit cold and overcast when we arrived and we ended up being the only couple to join them. Blankets were in the carriage waiting for us and we were greeted as soon as we pulled up, the ride was enjoyable and informative... we learned about the farm and a bit about the battle, both Bill and Bonnie were super friendly and it was a pleasure to meet them! After the ride was over we had the opportunity to go back to the barn and meet all the horses. We learned more about each of them and got to feed them carrots, absolutely worth the price and a ride we would definitely do again, hopefully under better weather next time!

We have been very pleased with our experience so far at Cumberland Gymnastics! My daughter and son…read moreboth participated in a summer camp, which gave them an opportunity to experience the various tumbling and specialty skills (balance beam, bars, etc) one would expect to practice more in a regular class. We've since enrolled my daughter (age four) in regular weekly classes, and she loves it! The instructors are patient with the kids, and the practice skills each night are tailored to kids developmentally, which takes the pressure of needing to perform off the littlest kids. As students get older, there's definitely more focus on skills, and it's neat to see the older kids practicing off to the side - and you can see the growth happen week to week! They have two areas for families to sit when they watch their kids in class, with a few chairs downstairs and a couple sets of bleachers upstairs. Be warned - it can get really hot in the summer, and there's no backing to the bleachers upstairs, which can get a little bit uncomfortable. But there are worse things in life!

Now that my daughter has been on team at 3 other gyms I am posting this review to caution parents…read more The owner kept several thousand dollars I paid in advance. The other gyms my daughter was in would never do this. During the pandemic I donated money to both Wilson School of Gymnastics and Highlanders Gymnastics. Both are excellent! Cumberland uses very young teenagers to coach. None of the other gyms do this. They also do not have adequate spotting especially for advance skills. The gym my daughter is at now has 4 male gymnastics coaches who are experienced at coaching and spotting. Not cheap but the owners understand the liability and sincerely care about safety. Cumberland's Parking lot is not adequate for their business and the township should investigate them. Dangerous for the children. The owner's focus is money and not children. She asked me what my husband did when I paid ahead. I use that incident when I speak on women empowerment. Because I made my own money and do not depend on my husband for support. My recommendation is to try Wilson School of Gymnastics which is a little North of Chambersburg on Route 11. Completely renovated and the head coach knows how to motivated children. We no longer live in the area or we would still be at that gym.
