Summerset caters to a wide range of rider abilities and ages. So whether you are young or old, a beginner or a seasoned rider, want to get into competitions or just want to sharpen your skills and enjoy the sport here on property, we would love to have you join our growing family of riders here at Summerset. Our goal is to help our riders be more that just a rider. There is more to being an equestrian. Understanding basic elements of horse care and equipment are essential to this purpose. Our riding environment, lessons and techniques also differs from many facilities in the area as well. Our philosophy and focus here is to develop a positive learning environment and a sense of team while focusing on the needs of the horse and rider. We want to create an atmosphere of mutual encouragement, respect and communication.The exchanging of ideas and team building, while incorporating fun, creative lessons and activities, are encouraged. Lessons will concentrate on both horse and rider by means of individualized lessons geared for the horse and rider's appropriate skill level. We want to give the rider a better understanding of horse behavior and their own tendencies and how that affects the bio-mechanics of both themselves and the horse. This understanding will make them critical thinkers and better riders and as a result benefit their horses. History
Established in 2016.
Founded in March of 2016, Summerset Stables, LLC continues to grow. In 2017, many dramatic changes occurred as lessons began on property. Additions included the move of existing stalls onto the new stone pad, a new lighted outdoor arena, completion of the barn stall row bringing it to a total of 12 stalls, a new paddock and round pen and finally, a new grass dressage ring was installed. In 2018, two new horses entered the barn with owners that had already been riding at Summerset and the business acquired a new lesson horse.By the end of 2019, we hope to have the remainder of the barn at least under roof, three new pastures fenced in and additional fencing completed on the property. Hopefully in the near future, we will be able to construct an indoor arena to allow us to ride pretty much all year long. Currently we do have connections to ride at other facilities periodically through out the January and February months which are usually the harshest months of the year for us..
Meet the Business Owner: Carly A.
Carly graduated from Lake Erie College. While there, she fell in love with dressage which has shaped view on riding & teaching. Horse & Rider Bio-mechanics quickly became a major interest. Since then, she has studied & applied a bio-mechanical approach to both her teaching & riding. Her lessons concentrate on developing body awareness to create a balanced seat & heightened communication between horse & rider. Teamwork & fluid connection are greatly encouraged. Mary Wanless, Gillian Higgins, & Dr. Gerd Heuschmann have all been major influences in her bio-mechanical education as well as her own trainer and mentor, Holly Sands. Carly also works with riders who are timid, nervous, or struggle with confidence. She likes to incorporate her learning from Daniel Stewart in confidence building in & out of the ring. Carly's focus for her students isn't winning blue ribbons, it's obtaining set goals & creating a lasting partnership with their horse. Check out our website for for more info.
