When you are learning something new, you need someone like Josh to make you comfortable, provide specifics during each step of the process, and support you as you learn. That is what you can expect from Art of Fire. I made a beautiful bowl, as did my DiL. My granddaughter made a Christmas ornament using her favorite colors of pink, purple and yellow. It was the close-out event to a month-long celebration of my birthday and it was the perfect closer. I've long wanted to do a glass-blowing class so when this popped up I was excited to get my friends together to try it with me. Admittedly, it was not initially what I was expecting (there was no formal class or long instruction or presentation) BUT it actually turned out to be even better because it is more of a hands-on experience with individual attention from the staff along each step of the process. We had a reservation for 5pm and once we all arrived, we were given the safety breakdown and clear instructions on what we would be doing, and then we were off! Everyone chose something personal and had a blast creating it with the guidance of the kind, attentive and helpful staff. Each member in our party went one at a time with a different staffer to begin their creation, which was great because it allowed time and opportunity for us to capture video memories and photos of each other during the process. The prices are extremely reasonable, which I love because I tend to be a frugal fanny at times! I only wish the options for the class projects included a few more piece variations at each price range ($25 to $70). The projects from start to finish do not take very long, which is a good thing and bad thing...if you don't have anything planned for afterwards :-) At the end of the event, my friends all had something unique that they created in remembrance of our time together. On their website there is a supposedly a way to schedule online but that didn't work either. Thankfully Groupon refunded my over $500 purchase. Do not deal with this company!

My first lesson was no pressure and I felt like I made a lot of progress. BTW, this is not Viennesse waltzing, which is a formalized style of waltzing. The kind of waltzing taught here is more of a "garden variety", and done by cultures all over the world. It's a 3-step candance (slow, quick quick), and anyone can do it, seriously. It might be the best $13 that I ever spent. That's the cost of admission, which includes a 45 minute lesson, followed by nearly 3 hours of dance time with a live band. The Spanish Ballroom, where the social dances are held, is a premier venue. The building itself is Art Deco architecture and considered to be one of the best ballrooms of its kind on the East Coast. The interior is decorated tastefully and lighted well. The expansive floor is made of a lovely maple wood. The live music is such a treat as the acoustics here are top notch. The social dances are a lot of fun, and waltzing isn't the only style offered--there's contra dancing; tango dancing; swing dancing; blues dancing, etc. The social dance calendar is quite extensive.
