This is such a fun activity! You can choose from a wide selection of things to make and colors to choose from. The workers are all so knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely worth the value!

Had such a great time here for my post birthday day! Came on a Saturday and made a reservation through email. They were super responsive which I def appreciated. Me and two other friends made a spoon rest, a pumpkin and a flower-(I made the flower). We had three different glass blowers helping us with each step so everything was very safe. It was short but really cool! They make such cool and interesting glassblowing! Highly recommend visiting, even if it's just to see the gallery. They are kind of in the middle of nowhere but they do have their own parking lot and they're next to a small shopping center. The prices range from $25-75. I paid $40 for the flower not including the optional tip. Such a unique experience. It's very hot in there so you can wear anything, even open toed shoes or shorts. Highly recommend, would go back.

Nora was so helpful. I made a pumpkin and it was so fun. The piece looked beautiful. I can't want to pick it up.

The McFadden Art Glass experience was a welcomed change to date night. We were happily greeted and invited to a demonstration on how to create a bowl. We watched step by step and the dos and donts were clearly stated. When it came time to create we were accompanied step by step by a qualified artist. Make sure you are hydrated before attending. It can be warm around the fires. The outcome is worth the sweat. We appreciated the water cooler being close. There were other small pieces for sale in the gallery as well. Our piece is going to be shipped. We can hardly wait to place our vase in our home.

Such a wonderful Christmas gift from our daughter and her boyfriend. It was great experiencing glass blowing as family. The staff at McFadden's made it fun learning something new, and helped make lasting happy family memories.

Fantastic place for a date night, group activity or individual who get certified to make projects on their own! I was emailing with Mrs. McFadden to schedule our time and she was very nice to work with. We ended up choosing 4pm which was great because we were in between other groups and had many people working with us. We went as a group of 4 and each did something different. Someone takes down your project request a what colors you want to make it in. You get up to 3 color choices. We did a vase, a pumpkin, icicle ornaments and a stemless wine glass. Tim, Josh and Brie were so much fun to work with! Tim was so patient and clearly explained every step and why they do it the way they do. It made us all feel comfortable and we had a ton of fun. Each piece cost between $60-$80 but it looked like you could do different higher priced ones if you asked. Highly recommend this place! Will definitely be going back to this spot to make more pieces!

I went to last night's date night and it was such a great experience. The first 30-45 minutes is a demonstration and then staff calls groups to create a piece of your choosing (all reasonably priced). There was a lot more hands on than we expected which was great. The downside is if you are not close, you will have to pick up your piece a few days later. They do offer shipping.

This birthday adventure exceeded my expectations. A whole group of my friends joined me to blow glass - most of us for the first time. And I can say with absolute certainty that we all had a fantastic time. I wasn't sure that I was actually going to be able to do any of the tasks required to make the glass piece that I chose. I am severely disabled and use a wheelchair. My arms don't move like an average person's arms move. I am not strong, at all. But Tim was an amazing teacher, and never once made it seem like I wasn't doing a good job, or that my special needs were unusual at all. I got to do every bit of the process, from heating the glass to shaping the heart, to tapping the pole to release the finished paperweight (and about 15 other steps in between). I couldn't stop smiling. The studio was so warm and comforting. I can't imagine blowing glass in the summer. It must get like an inferno in there. It's entertaining to just sit on the nearby bleachers and watch everyone as they perform this ballet, working around each other, all while handling molten glass. There were seven people in my party, and we all made something different. The pieces have to cool in the annealer for several days before we can pick them up. I can't wait to see the finished products. The glass shop sells some amazingly beautiful pieces, some super extravagant, some completely affordable. It's worth checking it out, even if you don't make your own piece. I must have driven past the shop a million times in my life. I had no idea the splendor housed inside. Go see it! Would absolutely recommend

    Adhesive that they recommended.
    Brian L.

They provided me with inexpensive shards of glass that I needed to fix a clock. And they recommended two different adhesive to use and gave me the pros and cons of each one. The project went very well!

What a fun experience. You can look on their website in advance and see what type of vessal you might like to make. You then make a reservation and show up in their studio at the appointed time. There's a shelf showing various designs as well as colors you can chose from. Your cost is dependent on what you want to make. For more substantial pieces, the price seems to run from about $40 to $70 (?) The very friendly staff then help you work thru the process of creating your own masterpiece! In reality they do most of the work but your hands-on input is used during the entire process and you feel a sense of accomplishment when finished. Each individual piece took about 20 (?) minutes or so to make. Is this a glass blowing class - no. Is it fun - yes. If you want to sign up for an actual class they are available. So if you want to try something entirely different, this is it. Kids as young as 5 can participate.

We came as a family. 10 of us, with no experience and even less talent and through our knowledgeable instructors came away with beautiful items!

The jewelry center offers classes, workshops and studio space to both new and established designers. As you walked into the center's gallery, you could admire the creative work of some of the jewelers. The work was intricate and lovely. They were having a class when we were there, so we only peeked into that room. They do offer space for anyone who wants to create beautiful jewelry. I had heard about this place on WYPR and thought it might be interesting. The most I'd ever done regarding jewelry is stringing beads - really creatively, mind you! But what they're teaching here is well beyond that and geared to getting you to a much more professional level of craft. I had never worked at such a mini scale. When I signed up for the first class, a weekend workshop with a guest teacher from out of town, I thought it was a bit pricey. But the amount I learned, and the new challenges I faced and overcame with the help of the teacher, was really amazing. The second weekend workshop was more theory and discussion than hands-on, so I wasn't as jazzed, and in reality, I didn't learn as much. The third class I took was the 12-week Intro to Metals and Jewelry with teacher Jenn Parnell. It also was amazing! She is patient, organized, and thorough! The three projects were challenging but engaging. I watched all the students, including myself, become frustrated (during the soldering phase) but then make the leap into the ease of having somewhat-mastered a new skill. My fourth class was a weekend workshop on stone setting with Erica Bello. We learned four setting techniques and I was surprised that we were able to get to each one - and produce samples of each technique. It was very cool! The studio is professionally equipped, well maintained, and safe. The environment is mostly adult - though a couple times when I went in outside of class time, there were students who were behaving like high schoolers... Luckily, the space is large enough that you can just move to a bench further away. The two studio managers, April and Erica, are helpful and professional. Instructors are both well informed and inspiring. A couple things I think they should do are have a quick orientation of the space and point out what is where, explain studio rules, and perhaps have all these things on handouts. My first class, I was the only newbie, and everyone else had their own tools and was very familiar with the BJC - I felt VERY much like an outsider with an unfair disadvantage. Another thing, it would be great if we students could work with unlimited time for the very last class day - a win-win for all. Students get their projects (closer to) finished and the BJC gets happy students. A great resource for Baltimore - more people should be taking advantage of this local gem!
