i previously wrote a review based on my experience on the "intake " side of the store where articles look rather shabby. so, to qualify that. now, my experience bringing in some never worn clothing for consignment. Article Consignment is the same as every other consignment store. no sense of style or trends. clothing is evaluated on the label.that's it. I guess trying to hire someone with a sense of style as an intake person would be too difficult. So they are able to read the label and sort accordingly. Okay I seriously almost don't want to say how fantastic Article is, because I'd like to keep it my own little secret-it's that great! For starters, the clothing curation is unmatched. I would consider myself to be a nearly professional thrifter, and I am wildly impressed every time I enter the store. This last visit, I went to Article looking to find a cocktail dress for a gala I am attending. Of course, I headed straight back to the dresses and started hunting. I brought a friend, whom I wanted to show the store, and the first thing she said was, "this place is like a J.Crew Factory!" She isn't wrong. The second I started sorting through dresses I found myself astounded at the selection: Calvin Klein, BCBG, Dolce & Gabbana, Free People, you name it, they have it. If you're looking for high-end clothing at a low-end price, Article should be the first place you go. To the end of price-point: you seriously won't be able to find the quality of clothing for the price anywhere else. The price tags may initially look higher than traditional thrift stores, but they frequently have sales that offer deep discounts. On my last visit before this, I bought a brand new Adriana Papell gown for $39, on a 50% discount sale. On my visit before that, I bought 5 items as 'back to school' clothing for a total of $85, all of which I purchased on the day of a 70% off sale for items tagged with a certain color. If you shop in accordance with the sales, you won't be disappointed. The prices you pay for such highly curated items are more than reasonable. On this visit in particular, as you can see from my photo, I purchased an Adrianna Papell cocktail dress- still new with the tags on, with a retail value of $240.00. The gown was marked at $69.50, but 'pink tag' items were on a clearance sale of 50% off, so I walked out paying only $34.75 for the dress. INSANE. I seriously cannot stress that this is not a lucky streak, this is an expectation whenever I go to Article, and I have yet to be disappointed. To the point of shopping with the sale: Article offers text message and email alerts to keep you abreast of the sales and various events as they occur. Additionally, they take part in the 'Five Star' reward program which gives you money off as you garner points for shopping at their store, often earning you between $5 and $10 off with relatively small purchases. As for the store itself, it is incredibly clean, pleasant smelling (unlike many other thrift stores), and very well organized. The clothes are sorted by article, style/genre, and by season, making it very easy for you to head straight towards what you're looking for, even if you're short on time. This last visit, we came in 34 minutes before closing, had plenty of time to look through dresses and clearance, try on several dresses, checkout, and still managed to be out of the door by close. And finally, the icing on the cake is the staff. Truly helpful, and fantastic at sensing if you simply want to browse on your own. Every employee I have encountered has been nothing but helpful, honest in giving their opinions when asked, and great cheerleaders when you're looking for it. I have never carried more than a few items at a time before an employee came to ask if I would like them to start a room for me. Absolutely great retail service. In case you haven't gotten the memo, you'd be crazy to start shopping anywhere other than Article, even compared to non-consignment retailers. TLDR: Article is amazing. read more

Great Thrifting Opportunities in East Sacramento SITREP Article Consignment Boutique is a novel store located in the same shopping plaza area as Tupelo's (one of my favorite Indie Coffee shops) and also - ironically enough - the location of one of my favorite Starbucks in Sacramento. So the additional irony is that I've patronized this shopping plaza for 10 years and suddenly Article is newer venue and I just stepped into this particular store this past month. THE SETUP It is an eclectic store with a preponderence of women's fashions, but since I was informed recently that men's fashions were also available, I decided to come and peruse for myself. The items are somewhat unique, and by that I mean you might really like a particular piece of clothing or see a smart set of shoes, but they don't have them in every size. So you will really need to scrutinize your choices and not get your heart set on anything from afar. It is definitely a store with more selection (to be honest) for a woman than a man. BELTS However, what I DID find was a great $22 leather belt - and belts for me are one of those items that are pretty hard to go wrong anyways since if it's the width I like to fill the pant hoops - and if it's long enough - I really dont' care about the color since I tend to wear my shirts on the outside anyways. Located in a small shopping plaza sandwiched inbetween Tupelo Coffee and Sacramento Magazine, Article has been open for nearly two months now. Parking can be tricky, but you the lot is shared by all the establishments, so I was told it is okay to park in a spot marked 'Sac Mag'. They stock a range of mainly women's clothing, but also have men's, toddlers and childrens clothing. I find the prices to be somewhat random. Some things I would pay more for and others I would never pay the ticket price. One thing to note is that once an article of clothing has been there for over 30 days, it automatically becomes 50% off. Anything over 60 days gets donated. I found a very cute pair of black dressy shoes that were barely used for $19 and a Lucky brand top for my daughter. Score! I almost got a pair of jeans, but they were hip huggers which are a pet peeve of mine unless you are a teenager and/or stylishly skinny, and I'm neither. I can't stand seeing muffin tops! This place could use a fresh infusion of merchandise, shoes and accessories. So c'mon you stylish women of East Sac! Purge your closets! I love how there is a wide variety of designer items such as Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, etc. The staff is very nice and will help you out during your shopping experience. There are fitting rooms if you needed to try anything on. The store is huge with a discounted section in the back. Be sure to check out all the racks, shelves and drawers for some unique finds. After my first time in this store, in which my girlfriend purchased a leather jacket, button up shirt and a necklace for me, for $40, I knew I was going to be hooked. I've been back and second time, and I'm sure now that this place is going to be a staple in both our wardrobes for reasonably priced clothes and accessories. The store itself is in a nice shopping center, but the parking can, occasionally, suck beyond belief. The inside is bustling with employees putting away merchandise, cleaning and helping it's clients. I love the fact that they have hand made jewelry, and as soon as those earrings are no longer $20 a pair, (some kind of a "buy 2 pairs for this price" would be nice, I'm going to buy some. I adore the fact that they have lots of designer clothes and accessories. My only wish, and this is a wish I have for a lot of stores not just consignment shops, is that they have a more substantial collection of sizes 18 and up. It has been more difficult than I ever would have imagined to find a quality consignment shop to sell back clothes/accessories. I don't consider myself a major luxury brand shopper but I do have quality clothes that often times barely get worn before I realize I need to just let it go and Sacramento is LACKING when it comes to consignment options. I have tried others in town but ultimately had poor experiences interacting with those businesses. I resorted to selling items on Poshmark for a while but that was ultimately exhausting as there was so much product competition within the entire app. If you are looking for a local consignment shop with quality names and clothing I highly recommend Article! The staff was very friendly and polite when I stopped by for the first time. I wasn't familiar with the store or their practices but I was treated politely and the employee who helped me was patient and explained the entire process. They were able to review what I brought in very quickly and I was done within a few minutes. While the consignment process requires a little more patience (in that you have to wait for your items to sell before you can get your money) I was impressed with the cut that I would potentially receive if my items all sold, compared to other places that want to pay you next to nothing. To kill the few minutes that I had to wait I browsed the racks, not all of it was my style but I found several items that were adorable and yes, you are going to pay a little bit more, but still much cheaper than full price and again, compared to shopping online on ebay or Poshmark, you get to feel the product in your hands, check it over for flaws, and try it on first to make sure it even fits. I will definitely be back, this is the best consignment shop within the Sacramento area, by far! read more

Consignment, usually not my thing, but a girlfriend asked, and I led her here. She racked up. I was pleased to see the new items and some very nice high end pieces for a great price. It was fun to shop. Kind of strange to see a $19. Item next to a $300. item, that's weird. It throws you off a little. Especially when you're not a label junkie. I believe fashion is where you find it. So for you who have that issue, I saw plenty of labels. A lot of J Crew, but tis the season, I suppose. The staff was very friendly and helpful. First time ever being there tonight thanks to my bestie Gina. Definitely a very legit place. Granted you might find some stuff that isn't really your style, but that's not what this place is about. It caters to all types of styles and the prices are pretty low. Was about to get a pretty good condition Burberry purse and wallet for $119 and a beautiful glamorous necklace for $12 (that was originally $24, but it was 50% off!). Also featured a section from "Closet Candy". Was able to find a very pretty brooch for $12 that I can definitely use to pin back baggy shirts, etc. And I found an all white Nixon watch for $28 when online it was priced at $59.95!! I was able to get basically all my xmas shopping done at this shop and tonight 10% of the profit went to charity! Tip: You must pay attention to the tags! I initially went in with my mom to check-out the store to see if we would be able to bring some of our items to sell. We weren't sure the brands we would see, so we wanted to scope out the store and ask questions before bringing our "spring-cleaning" items in. We loved the atmosphere of the store and the organization of the merchandise. We both tried on things and looked at a few purses. I left with a decently priced dress that I know won't be necessarily seen around town since I came here. I am also excited to bring some of my purses and accessories in to be consigned as I think this store would do a good job selling them. The staff was helpful and friendly. Definitely a good place to go for some quality items and brands- just make sure to check items for wear and tear inside and out .... there were a few purses I think were priced a little too steep with some noticeable marks and wear; however, clothing prices were decent for the quality of brands, etc. Set-up of the store is charming and clean!!!! Went in to check out Article after hearing a lot about it from friends who live in the area. I must say, I was very impressed! This is one of the nicest high end consignment shops I've ever been to. The layout of the store is very open and has a great variety of different departments. Chelsea was extremely helpful while showing me a few high end pieces behind the front counter. A cute little consignment boutique with a large number of designer brands and quality items. You name it, they have it. Michael Kors, Burberry, Chanel, Manolo Blanik, Tiffanys, Tory Burch and more. Don't expect dirt cheap prices though, a little higher on the price points but you'll have to go in and check out the merchandise to understand why. Did I mention that have a wide assortment of designer handbags including LV? I did not find anything that I loved when I went in the other day but it definitely wont stop me from visiting again! I have been consigning with Article since I moved to Sac a couple of years ago and have only had great experiences with their staff and the consignment process! Unlike Freestyle or Crossroads, you only get paid when your items sell, but you get 40% instead of 30-35%. They look through your clothes and they email you what they took and the retail price it will go for with in a couple of days, which is great for record keeping. You go back in every once in awhile and you just ask them how much is in your account. You get a discount if you buy something from the store using your account or you can cash out and they give you a check. Super easy and straight forward. They take designer clothes/accessories/shoes and nicer brand name stores (i.e. J. Crew). To be honest, there is always something I want there, but I've been pretty good at resisting. ;) Their staff is really nice and personable. They welcome you, but don't bog you down when you shop. They also answer any questions you have about consigning and if they like a piece, but there is something off about it, they tell you directly. I once brought in a skirt that had a stain on it that I didn't see. The owner told me to bring it back after I cleaned it and he'll take it. He lived up to his word and they took it once I had cleaned it. Definitely stop by to browse or sell your clothes. Great local store! read more

I love that, I can trust that they are guaranteed to have amazing products at amazing prices. Keep in mind this is not a thrift store. Prices are set accordingly. If you enjoy good quality, high quality, and even luxury at an affordable prices, Article Consignment is the way to go. Stock changes daily, and there are times when I'm not in love with anything, but I always try and go in once a week. I don't want to let the secret out of the bag, but the wish list is also amazing. Pros: Cleanliness- This place is much cleaner than other stores and more organized. Their racks definitely aren't over-stuffed and it's easy to see what they have. You're also not confronted with smelly shoes or dirty purses, which is a definite plus. Quality-Their collection is well organized and you can tell it's been curated to a tee. None of the tattered pseudo couture seen at other trendy consignment places. Employees- The staff is upbeat and engaging. They're also very respectful when discussing buy back prices. Cons: Prices- This is one of the only consignment stores where I've experienced sticker shock. People go to these places to get deals, not to pay glorified sale prices, especially on VERY well-used items.This goes DOUBLE for active wear. I couldn't believe the prices I saw for used LULULEMON. Athleisure is big right now, but who would pay $60 for a skin tight garment someone has already sweated out a million times over? There comes a point where the brand just doesn't matter. Style- It's dated, plain and simple. I know they're choosy and can't hold the massive volume of say a buffalo exchange, but still, the cuts and styles are VERY dated especially for the prices. Now, they have two locations; the small one where they were while the other space was being remodeled, and the big one, with a different theme in each. This has been my favorite store for years. I went there yesterday and found the perfect pair of high-waisted cutoff shorts and was thrilled! The woman at the counter was so nice and held my items while I finished browsing. I found $150 worth of clothes and went to check out. It turned out that the shorts sold online during the time I was in the store and I was not allowed to purchase them. I COULD NOT believe the manager had not pulled items as they sold. This was a TERRIBLE experience and if this is the way the store operates now, I don't want to chance shopping there any longer. read more

I enjoy checking out Consignment shops, here in the Sacramento area, and when traveling as well. So it was with great enthusiasm that I visited Article Consignment Boutique in East Sacramento. Located in a shopping area with great off street parking and not one but two nearby coffee shops. Sadly, Article Consignment Boutique was a bit of a disappointment, upon entering, I was never once greeted by employees. The selection of consigned goods was mediocre at best, no high end designer items whatsoever! And the clothing section was nothing but racks crowded in the middle of the shop and against the back wall. Usually when browsing consignment shops, one almost always finds a "treasure" or two, and if you're really lucky, a designer item at a "too good to pass up" price! So I'm a big fan of Freestyle, and after reading some Yelp reviews comparing it with Article, the wife and I decided to check it out. Here are my thoughts: First of all, they really have a nice boutique: its clean, bright, well organized, and the displays have really cute and fashionable ensembles. The prices are so-so... I found a pair of shoes and a nice watch for around $16 each. Identical items at Freestyle would have been around $8-10, and if I had bought these things new from a place like Nordstrom's Rack, they would have been around $40 each... so all in all, decent deals but not great. I also don't like that they don't have a return policy. I get it, its a consignment shop and its complicated, but Freestyle does it (returns within 10 days with a receipt). Even returns for store credit only would be better than nothing. The men's selection was OK, but not great... its actually a decent section of the store, a full rack for pants, two racks for jackets and suits, a full rack of shirts, a boat load of ties, decent shoe selection and a rack of shorts & swim trunks. The problem is that considering this place is a stone's throw away from a college campus, almost everything in the men's section is for the larger among us. I think that they had less than 10 small shirts and less than half a dozen pairs of pants under a 34 inch waist. So while the overall selection was decent, I couldn't find a single thing that was in my size. So minus one star for not having a decent spread. I'm deducting the other star because of the customer service. The women who were working in the store had a 'funny' attitude. Our experience with interacting with them was OK, but in the 30 minutes we were there, maybe 3 or 4 people came in to sell stuff. Apparently you have to make an appointment, which one woman had, but the woman in the store had failed to call her back to cancel the appointment because the owners had to leave unexpectedly. She claimed that she just hadn't had time to get around to returning messages, but they were just standing around chatting and taking pictures of each other with a funny hat on. In the end, they didn't appear that busy to me and the woman who came in (with an appointment) was apparently quite busy and seemed irate (as I would be in her situation) that her appointment had been canceled unilaterally without notice. The off putting part wasn't necessarily the situation or anything that was said, but rather the tone with which the sales ladies interacted with the customers, as if they were irritated that you might actually want to buy something, but worse, disgusted that you might actually want to sell something in the store. It was a flat-but-still-condescending-I'm-smiling-with-my-mouth-but-telling-you-F-off-with-my-eyes kinda tone and look. Multiply this by three, and it made an impression on both me and the wife that made us less than eager to rush back. read more

I might have to disown my friend, Heather, for telling me about this place. Every time I go I PROMISE myself I won't spend more than $10 (which is possible, because there are TONS of items under $10 and even under $5)...and it never works. No matter what happens, I always find an amazing deal on a designer item. Last time I found this amazing designer dress that was probably about $200 new and I got it for $30 at Article. Now, I'm not a tiny girl. This is a boutique store for any size. They always have a great selection of sizes 12-16. Not to mention shoes that aren't just size 7s. And, as had been mentioned, they are super kid friendly and even have a small kids selection. This store is such a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

To be honest I was unimpressed. If I'm shopping consignment, rather than new clothing, I'm looking for a good value and this place didn't seem to have it. For example, I saw a nursing tank I owned for sale $19.50, though I paid around $20 for it new. The staff was fine, not overly friendly but they did start a dressing room for my mom, who found a beautiful dress at a good price. While I found their prices overall on the high side (same price as new clothing on clearance at stores like Macy's) they did have some cute items and even some maternity clothing. The store is very clean and well organized. There is a small parking lot as well. When you are shopping there are two prices- the starting one and the sale one- which goes into effect on the date listed on the tag. I'm obsessed with Article! It seems like every time I walk in the door, I walk out with bags of great finds! This past weekend, I was really excited to find an amazing pant suit, blazer, black slacks, adorable jacket, down-filled vest, and three new tops -- all high-end names (Tahari, LuluLemon, Velvet) and all for less than I would have had to pay for the suit jacket alone! Abe, Val, and their staff are always so friendly and helpful in providing me with ideas and suggestions to put together the perfect outfit. Each time I visit, they greet me warmly, making me feel welcome, and they allow me to take my time in selecting amazing pieces. You'd think you were shopping in Nordstrom! Staff is so attentive in making sure that you have two free hands to shop, as they carefully place your items in a spacious fitting room. The smartest thing you can do is to subscribe to their Instagram and Facebook posts! You'll find yourself waiting each day to see new items, fun outfit ideas, and notices of fantastic sales! Consigning your clothes can be an emotional thing to do. Similar to having a garage sale, where you suddenly see that treasured sofa sitting out in the daylight and realizing that you should have gotten rid of it years ago. Article is very selective in what they accept. And they have every reason to be selective! After all, that's how they ensure quality items in their store. Of course, it's not easy when they turn away items that you thought were perfectly fine. However, they're business owners, and they need to make the decision as to whether the item will be desirable by their customers and whether they already have too much inventory to support the item. That's just good business sense. So, if you emotionally cannot handle having your favorite dress or jacket turned away, don't consign. Article is well organized and always looking at ways to improve their store. The display cases for jewelry are a fun place to start your hunt. Although they carry a great deal of high-end handbags at prices I can't even afford, they also carry a wide variety of other name brand bags at very reasonable prices. Their designer clothing is beautiful, and the store is laid out nicely. Article has frequent sales, as they most likely need to in order to decrease their high inventory. I don't mind working my way through a rack of clothes - it's just the way I love to shop - but I'm sure some shoppers prefer less inventory. The inventory and selection changes frequently too, which makes me want to make the 20-minute drive to Article more often than I should. Given that it's the only store that I care to shop at anymore due to the great finds, I'm happy to make the drive! Overpriced, my husband bought two shirts well used for $40; he never buys anything so I did not want to tell.him.that he was being ripped off and let him. I guess it s a good deal, when they have sales, otherwise the selection is not exactly wow, and seriously overpriced. No, I'm not inquiring for a return, I'm just giving my honest opinion: some articles are well used and not thrift store prices. I understand the store carries mostly brand names, but still. Also, I don't agree with advertising mentioning retail price. Yes, that could have been the retail price when the item was on season and right off the store. Once it gets out of the store, used and off season we are not talking retail price anymore. Again, I think on sales day is a good deal. They are also very nice and organized. read more
