Rescue Rooter is a top quality plumbing service in SD County. They came out the same day and fixed the problem. My entire master bathroom was back up and not draining. Nothing I did worked as I tried to clear it myself. Everyone here was personable, prompt and very clean and upfront about pricing. I will use them again in the future as needed. read more

10/5/26: I will start by saying I do not enjoy giving a bad review. I believe everyone deserves a chance and even a second chance to make things right. Sadly, this company continues to disappoint and fail. They are quick to provide a new system and make a lot of promises about what will happen after the sale. In my case, it has been a string of disappointing service calls, and multiple failures of our air-conditioning system. They make it almost impossible to talk to a live person and when you do, they are good at making excuses and apologies for what went wrong. Yet still they cannot seem to follow through. Meanwhile, we are stuck with an air conditioner that does not work, that is a warranty issue, and they will not even communicate with me. All I have asked for is an open line of communication so we know what to expect and honesty and integrity on the part of ARS. I hope I can soon write a review that says they figured out their problems and are finally providing the service they advertise. 10/6/26: ARS responded to my negative review with a suggestion that I contact their quality assurance manager and they gave a phone number. Prior to writing my review above, I called that number multiple times and never got an answer. I also left multiple voicemails and of course, never got an answer. Amazing to me that they have the time to respond to a negative review but not to actually make a phone call to a customer they have left hanging. read more

We will Never use or recommend this company ever again. ARS replaced our Water in Oct 2025. The day after install we had them come out and address a leak we detected. In July 2026 - right before 4th of July weekend - we had a Plummer from another company installing new facets and we asked him to check the new Water heater - and thank goodness he did. We had an active WH leak on the Water outlet, visible water marks with leak. The flexible 1" stainless steal supply lines had to be replaced with copper (which are industry standard). They installed dialectric unions, removed thermal expansion tank brass set up (which was placed at front of WH) and installed a thermal extension tank WALL bracket. Properly pressurize the bladder for thermal expansion tank. ArS had done such an incompetent job installing the WH and susequent leak, we believed them to be inadequate, at best. I called ARS several times and spoke customer service requesting a manager return my call to discuss warranty and possible refund for the expenses incurred to fix their poor workmanship - no one returned my calls. I had to spend $1600 to fix a very expensive water heater. I would absolutely never recommend this company for any installed or repairs. POOR WORMANSHIP AND LEADERSHIP. From a former and disatisfied customer. read more

**Extremely disappointing -- read the reviews before signing up** We called ARS, along with several other HVAC companies, because our AC was having issues. ARS told us they could come out **the very next day between 8 AM and noon**. During that call, they also strongly encouraged us to sign up for their service plan for $20/month, explaining that we would get a discount and other benefits. We were desperate to get our AC looked at, so we signed up. After that, we actually had TWO other companies tell us they could come out **the same day**. We turned them down because we had already scheduled ARS for the next morning and were told our appointment was confirmed. The next morning, ARS sent us **THREE separate texts confirming the appointment** and saying they would let us know when the technician was on the way. So we waited. And waited. Then, at **11:55 AM -- literally FIVE MINUTES before the end of the 8 AM-noon window THEY gave us -- they called and cancelled.** The explanation? They were extremely backlogged because "everyone is having issues" right now. They said they would put us on their board and *probably* be able to get someone out in another couple of days. I'm sorry, but if ARS already knew they were that overwhelmed and backlogged, **why were they taking customers' money for a service plan and promising next-day appointments they couldn't actually honor?** Why not be upfront and tell us the truth so we could make an informed decision and call someone who could actually come out? Instead, we turned down two companies that could have come **that same day** because we trusted ARS's confirmed appointment. I immediately called and cancelled the $20/month service plan. Honestly, the entire experience felt incredibly misleading. At best, it's extremely poor communication and scheduling. At worst, it feels like a bait-and-switch: get a desperate customer to sign up for the service plan by promising faster service, then leave them waiting all morning and cancel at the last possible minute. And here's the kicker: **after this happened, I went back and read the reviews -- and I wish I had done that BEFORE signing up.** There are far too many reviews describing very similar frustrations. I understand that HVAC companies get slammed, especially during extreme weather. I understand emergencies happen and schedules change. What I don't understand is **confirming an appointment three times, letting a customer wait the entire morning, and then cancelling five minutes before the appointment window closes.** If you are considering ARS, **read the reviews first.** Don't make the mistake I made because you're desperate to get your AC fixed. Very disappointing experience, and I will not be using ARS again. read more

Nightmarish! Most recent experience : technician came out, two days after they had initially promised. Diagnosed the problem. Informed us the ac was still under warranty but needed info from manufacturer to proceed. Technician left. No follow up. When we call to try to find out what is happening we get AI. When we have spoken to a human, they promise a call back and there is no call. BTW, we are in the midst of a heat wave. Temperature in the house reaching 100 degrees. If you would like a similar experience, by all means, call right away! read more

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THIS COMPANY if you are looking for service! Last week, during the San Diego heatwave, we had a horrible experience. When I spoke to this company when scheduling for next day service, I was assured multiple times that we were on schedule and would receive service. I receivied confirmation texts early in the day ans a reminder and again during scheduled window (12-4pm) on day of scheduled service, that they were still coming! Well after scheduled service window, I received a cowardly text stating that they understood this was "frustrating" but they were understaffed and wouldn't be coming. This was received AFTER 5pm so I had no opportunity to call anyone else in the sweltering heat. My family wound up in a hotel that night as a result of thier horrible and misleading non-service and communication. Now they continue to send me texts and emails asking if I have any other projects for them. the NERVE! I will never use, nor recommend these guys to anyone. read more

Extremely unreliable. I had used this company for two services previously and had fairly positive experiences, so when I needed a third service for my A/C unit, I booked them again. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different. There were five separate times when they were supposed to come out but either didn't show up or told me at the last minute that they needed to reschedule because they didn't have a tall enough ladder. Communication throughout the process was extremely poor. On more than one occasion, they told me the appointment needed to be rescheduled but then never actually followed up to reschedule it. I repeatedly had to call the office myself just to find out what was going on. On multiple occasions, I called to ask when I could expect someone to arrive and was told that someone would call me back with an update. I never received those calls, and then no one showed up for the appointment. After repeatedly rearranging my schedule and trying to get someone to actually come out, I finally gave up and decided to use another company. I honestly don't think I've ever left a negative yelp review before, and I don't leave one lightly. I gave them multiple opportunities because my previous experiences with them had been fine, but five failed attempts to complete one service is unreasonable. If reliability and communication are important to you, I unfortunately would not recommend this company. read more

I am experiencing the exact same issue with Tarpy, now American Residential Services (ARS). My AC unit is still under warranty, and a technician came out and identified the circuit board as the problem. Since then, I have received no follow-up despite repeated calls. It has now been three weeks without a working AC. Every time I call, I am told that a ticket will be created, but no one calls back or provides an update. I keep having to explain the same situation, and there seems to be no accountability or clear path to getting the repair completed. A warranty is only meaningful if the company actually honors it and provides timely service. Three weeks without AC, especially during the summer, is unacceptable. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and customer service since Tarpy became part of ARS. I hope someone from the company will take responsibility and resolve this issue rather than simply creating another ticket. read more

We had a very disappointing experience with ARS Rescue Rooter when a technician came to our home for our AC service. Unfortunately, the technician's behavior was very unprofessional and made us uncomfortable. While inspecting the AC unit in our attic, he was stomping his feet. He was also repeatedly huffing and puffing while walking back and forth between the inside and outside of our home during his diagnosis and assessment. We did not feel that our home or property was being treated with the care and respect we expected from a professional service company. During the visit, the technician strongly recommended an additional maintenance service for our outdoor AC unit. He presented it as urgent and made us feel that it needed to be done to prevent the unit from continuing to have problems in the future. We agreed at the time, but after reconsidering the recommendation the following day, we decided we were not comfortable proceeding. We immediately contacted the company to cancel the service and requested a refund. Unfortunately, getting the refund was another frustrating experience. The customer service was extremely poor, and we were given the runaround instead of receiving a straightforward answer and prompt resolution for a service that had been cancelled before it was performed. To make matters worse, the technician damaged the paint on our stairwell and scratched our otherwise clean AC unit by placing his tools on top of it. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience--from the technician's conduct, to the way the additional service was presented, to the damage to our property, and finally the difficulty we experienced trying to cancel the service and obtain our refund. We expected professional, respectful, and trustworthy service. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with ARS Rescue Rooter. Based on this experience, we would not use this company again and would not recommend them to others. read more

Brett P. came out for a routine semi-annual maintenance check under our maintenance contract. He went above and beyond while he was out here. Not only did he check the heating, he checked our cooling system as well. He noted a warranty-covered issue and fixed it on the spot. He spent tons of time here answering questions and providing crisp, transparent, and real advice. I've found this level of service to be rare, and immeasurably valuable. Thank you, Brett! read more

I used Tarpy for many years, but then they were bought out by ARS. NOT HAPPY! I had an appt on Sat with an arrival time between 2:00 and 6:00. I told them, when scheduling, that I had to be somewhere by 6:00, they said no problem. At 5:00, I called and they gave me an ETA of 5:57. I rescheduled for today between 8 and 12. I got 3 phone calls to "confirm" yet they didn't have my appt noted and wanted to schedule a new appt. Finally, I received a confirmation text with date and times. At 11:00, I called and was told they didn't have anything scheduled for me. After 3 calls and a text?? I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they would have a supervisor call ASAP. 4 hrs. later and still no call. I'm DONE with ARS. read more

READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE SCHEDULING Was given a 10am-2pm window to get my HVAC diagnosed. No communication until I decided to reach out at 1:50, was given the run around and eventually told someone would reach out to me in a few minutes. They did, said that some one would be there in 30-45 minutes, they were not there in time. Eventually got a call saying someone was there, but I was unavailable at the time. No apology, no offer to reschedule, the rep just hung up. If you have anything else scheduled for the day, Id cancel all other appointments. Can see by the all the previous reviews that this is a constant issue. And all they are doing is writing an apology to the reviews but not fixing anything read more

I had hvac repairs completed on 9/8/26. I didn't receive a copy of the invoice after I paid. I have been trying unsuccessfully to get a copy of the invoice since then. I have called at least 8 times and have been told that the person answering could only elevate the ticket but could not actually help me. Today at 12:04 I finally got someone who was willing to look into the issue and she said Cheyenne? Would email the invoice to me in 10 minutes. It has been 90 minutes and I have not received the invoice. I just tried the number for "Freddianne the quality assurance manager" and it was a call center rep who again told me he couldn't tell me how to get in touch with someone who could actually help me. He could only elevate the ticket. This is the worst customer service I've ever received. It should not take over 3 weeks to get a copy of an invoice emailed. read more

Very disappointing scheduling and customer service experience with ARS. ARS sent a flyer to my home offering maintenance service, so I scheduled an appointment online for Friday between 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. I thought the evening appointment was a great option for customers who work during the day. Instead, a technician unexpectedly arrived on Thursday during the daytime and left a card saying, "Sorry we missed you--call to reschedule." When I called, I was connected with a representative in Florida who told me ARS does not offer appointments from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.--even though that was the time their own online system allowed me to select. When he asked whether my system was working, I explained that it was not, which was why I had scheduled the appointment. After getting the runaround, I was told the earliest a repair technician could come was Saturday. So, I went from having a confirmed Friday appointment to receiving an unannounced visit on Thursday, followed by a rescheduled appointment on Saturday. This is the second time I have experienced similar scheduling problems with ARS, including an issue last April. In my experience, service has gone downhill since ARS acquired Tarpy. Dan, the general manager I previously worked with, no longer works for ARS or Tarpy, although he was kind enough to return my call. I am glad to hear he is doing well in his new career. Unfortunately, ARS's current scheduling system, communication, and customer service need significant improvement. read more

UPDATED 8/27 I can not give ARS 5 starts anymore. Brett is still a great tech and deserves 5 stars. He told me when he came on 8/5 that my reverse valve on the HVAC system was not working. He recommended I schedule with ARS to get a parts/warranty provider out to determine which parts need replaced. He was able to get my HVAC hooked up to just A/C which has been a life saver in this heatwave, but he told me there wasn't much else he could do because my system needs a new part and I needed someone from the ARS parts/warranty team to help. 8/27: I scheduled to have ARS come out today. First, we were not able to get through to a real person and my husband scheduled using their AI service. It was scheduled as a prepaid check-up. Not a parts/warranty service as that was never an option. Regardless, we had the appointment scheduled and as I work full time, I arranged for a family member to be at the house during the allotted service window. No one showed up during the entire 4 hour time slot. When we called, we could not get through to a real person. After an hour, we were able to get through and they told us our appointment had been cancelled. We did not call to cancel our appointment. We have no idea how this appointment was cancelled. The real customer service person said the AI service had cancelled our appointment. Eventually, they told us someone would be there by 4pm. Again, no one showed up. Another approximate hour was spent on the phone trying to get through to a person and arranging for service. When we did speak to a real person we found out the address the AI system had for us was based off a geo-pin from the cell phone location and was NOT our address. We had never been given an option to verify the address for service either. We have several complaints: ARS relies too much on AI customer service. It failed in multiple ways (appointment confirmation/cancellation, service location, finding out about status of technician, booking an appropriate appointment for our service needs) Additionally, our HVAC system is still not working at full capacity (which Brett acknowledged that he had to create a hack to get my A/C to work and he was not able to fix my main problem and I would need another service appointment to fix) but ARS has no records of my HVAC dysfunction and can't seem to find any service notes. We have another appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath they'll show up or fix my HVAC problem. read more

I ended up calling them at 328 PM (1 Hour 28 minutes after the window in which they were supposed to show. I was greeted with an AI chat bot but ended up getting to a human. She was nice, she confirmed all of my information was correct. I told her my situation. She apologized. She said she had notes the technician got too busy. Yet NOBODY told the customer. She said she would elevate it to a dispatch supervisor. That was 35 minutes ago. No call, no text. When Tarpy heating and Air was around they were AMAZING. Punctual, professional, fairly priced. WELL, they never called so I sat there waiting all day for NOTHING. I checked my email and text to see if they had tried to contact me after they closed but NO. I checked today and nothing. I was told that the person I was speaking with could not cancel the membership but that person would contact me right away. That was 18 days ago. The company contacted me via email and I verified what I wanted done - to have a natural gas conversion kit installed on a bbq and then hook up to existing new gas line. They said, yes they can do that. A couple of days later a rep contacted me to make an appointment. He asked what I wanted done - so I told him exactly. His response was "so, you need a new gas line installed." And I said "nooooooo, I need to have a gas conversion kit installed on a bbq and then hook the bbq up to the already existing NEW gas line." His response - oh we don't do that. So, the company scheduler either didn't have a clue what the company did, or they lied to me initially when they told me they could do the install. If I could provide a zero review, I would. The appointment was supposed to be between 2pm- 6pm. The technician never showed up, no calls, no text. Very inconsiderate. I called multiples times to check the status of my appointment until 10:15 pm, only to get an AI to tell me that the technician is running late. I told the AI that they suck and was connected immediately to a person. I told the guy they suck and was inconsiderate of their customer's time. The guy had the audacity to ask me if I want to schedule an emergency appointment with them, I'm sure he suggested that so they can charge higher. My husband hired this company for a clogged drain. They dug up our grass destroying our sod and gopher barrier then said that it was not what they had expected and they were not able to fix it. We had another plumber come out who said ARS was completely wrong about the problem. They were able to fix it with minimal impact to our backyard for less than ARS was quoting which included $1200 of new equipment that was not part of the ARS quote. They required a deposit so we basically paid them over $500 to dig an unnecessary hole in our backyard that we now have to pay to get fixed. On top of all that, they keep scheduling appointments we didn't ask for to come back out. We have told them the issue is resolved and then we get another email that an appointment is scheduled. When you call you don't talk to a local offices it's more like a call center so the whole thing is a pain. - Premium Service provider is laughable considering their technicians were wrong about the issue, never actually fixed anything and they kept our deposit without following up on their "service guarantee". There was nothing premium or exceptional about our service either in customer service quality or expertise. read more

I am absolutely disturbed and angry about what happened during a recent service visit from ARS Rescue Rooter. This is NOT just a case of unprofessional behavior--it's something much worse. After reviewing video footage from my home, I discovered their employees showed an unusual and inappropriate interest in my property. They weren't just there to do plumbing work; they paid excessive attention to personal details inside my home and even engaged my elderly mother in conversation to learn my work schedule--specifically when I leave and return home. This raises huge red flags about whether they were trying to gather information for something other than plumbing. I now fear that private information may have been disclosed, and I'm worried about possible unauthorized entry, theft, or even a home invasion. I live with three women, and we are all shaken and fearful as a result of this incident. I've lived in this home for over 30 years and have never experienced anything like this until ARS came here. This behavior is completely unacceptable and makes me question the safety and integrity of their employees and company practices. I REQUESTED A FULL REFUND AND WAS DENIED! If you value your privacy and safety, I strongly recommend you think twice before letting this company into your home. The pics show them sitting with my 83 years mother going over the bill. Then 5 minutes later, one worker is sending a camera down the drain while the other worker is still sitting with my mother. Since the bill was already paid, why now run the camera? read more

Used their site to message them on a Tuesday evening because it says they'll contact you right away. Contacted them by phone the next morning since they didn't reach out to me. A supervisor came out very fast to look at the job and then called someone he said was nearby and would be at my home in half an hour. Nobody showed. Instead I got text messages changing the appointment time until later and later in the day until it was a time I would not be home, which I had explained upfront. I called them to reschedule for Thursday morning. Again I got text messages confirming the time and saying they would contact me 30-45 minutes before arriving. The appointment window closed without anyone contacting me. I called them and got the runaround and nobody was able to tell me where the plumber was or what time he might show up or even if he would show up before I had to leave the house. I still have no idea if they are coming today. I'm calling other companies to see if anyone actually wants my business. It's a really strange way to handle a customer who gave them a $20,000 to $25,000 job last year. Imagine how they might treat you when you haven't paid them thousands of dollars before. Update: I called them at least 5 times and each time was told someone would call me back to let me know when they'd be out. Nobody from this company has called me even once. Then when I called back to tell them not to come today since I will be unavailable, they told me there is no record of an appointment for me today. I am surprised this company is still in business. They are outsourced through Home Depot preferred contractor program and when I filled out the form at Home Depot last night and requested a window for today, I got a call immediately in the morning asking whether I would be free much earlier. I was not. I told them that I could only stick with the originally scheduled time. After that, they never made that time and when I called back they said they would get back to me. Even more time passed and then somebody got back to me saying that they had to ship the window to 5 PM to 7 PM. I said that was OK and still, nobody got here in time at all. I then called close to 7 PM and the dispatcher said that the person would be here by 8:15 PM. It was already 8:25 PM and no one was here and when I called back there was an AI automated agent that answered and simply said that it would route my request to dispatch. At this point in time I was livid and asked to be connected to a human. The human simply said that they would find out when the HVAC person could be here by and I said it's way too late. They then offered me an appointment time a week later and I said forget about it because I just could not trust that they would keep their timeslot. I would advise everybody to never ever use Home Depot's preferred contractor services for anything. I had a ruptured water line in my attic so seeing that ARS had bought out Tarpy I thought it would be wise to contact ARS. They responded fast, took care of the leak. Made contact to other companies for the damage. On 5/8/2025 Scott and I signed a contract to replace all water lines because he showed me that the water lines in the attic had severe corrosion so if I didn't replace the water now other lines would rupture soon. I had the lines repaired throughout the house. As the repairs were being done in the bathroom which was damaged a plumbing subcontract came to finish the plumbing, he said the water lines in the shower were corroded and he could not install the shower fixtures without fixing the water lines. He asked why the water lines were not replaced including the shower lines. He also told me that if the lines in the other showers were like the bathroom we were going to have problems sooner or later. I have been trying to get someone ARS to respond to my calls and keep getting told someone from complaints would get in contact to resolve the issue I paid by financing of the project which cost $34465. I also had paid the plumbing contractor $450 and another contractor to repair the wall $1259.89 so additional $1709.89 and possibly further expenses to come for the other two bathrooms. A past employee of ARS informed me that is why he left the company, but he had forwarded the email to the person at ARS who handles complaints, but that person has been out since 8/13/2025 and nobody is available to handle or resolve this issue Hopefully now I will get a response from ARS. But I will also be forwarding this to the BBB. read more
