Called ARS to tell them about an electrical burning smell coming from the area of our air handler. I was afraid a fire might start. The dispatcher was great and said she would have someone there soon. William arrived and confirmed the electrical odor. He quickly found the problem and made the needed repairs. Thanks ARS for your quick response. Thanks William for being prompt and courteous and making the repair. read more

Spent 20min on the phone talking to multiple people trying to get basic maintenance scheduled that was already paid for. They said a few times they could schedule something, but kept placing me on hold and eventually I was transferred to the QA Manager. They wouldn't schedule the prepaid maintenance either. I've used the prepaid maintenance with ARS for years, but it is always problematic. read more

Actually, all the reviews prior to mine are pretty much spot on. Recurring theme of ineptitude. A lot of contractors seem to work with them, but their service department leaves much to be desired. We have had multiple visits for underperforming (not cooling) HVAC for our 2nd floor which they installed. They have sent multiple different technicians and really all they did was adjust the vents ... again, and again, and again. Clearly did not solve the problem. read more

Always very courteous and professional service on all my HVAC and plumbing needs. They installed my current HVAC systems and have provided routine service for the past 15yrs. Absolutely no complaints! read more

While I was out of town, my wife called me stating that there was no hot water. With wife and kids at home while I was out of town, I called ARS Raleigh to come out to check things out with the water heater. They came out promptly, looked over the water heater and told my wife it needed to be replaced. They quoted a pretty high figure to replace the water heater, so my wife called me while the ARS guy was present. After speaking with the ARS guy, he dropped the figure to $1600.00 if I gave the repair authorization at that time. Instead, I got a second opinion. A competitor came out, looked over the water heater, and found that the pilot light was out. He didn't even charge for the service call. I'm upset that ARS was trying to take advantage of the situation, and will not be calling on them again. read more

My water heater died so I called ARS to have a new one installed. The servie was good but the following winter my water wasnt hot it was luke warm, I dealt with it thinking maybe it was because the winter was colder than normal. My sisters water heater went out and I recommened ARS due to the timely and friendly service so they installed for her as well. The following winter I had ice cold water so I called ARS back and was told my Mixing Valve was bad so they replaced it for around $300. The next winter luke warm water for my sister and I (remember different houses) and now its getting cold and I have ice cold water again as well as my sister. I had a different company send out a plumber today and the first thing he asked is who put it in I told him ARS and he shook his head. He told me that they installed a commercial water heater in my home with a Mixing Valve, so I asked what exactly a Mixing Valve was since I had to replace this piece that apparently shouldnt be there in the first place once already, he told me thats what business use to limit how hot the water will get so people cant get burnt. I had to pay him $270 to take the Mixing Vavle off which never should have been there in the first place and the second plumber told me they do die out often and will have to be replaced every year or two. I sent plumber 2 to my sisters house and the same exact thing. ARS is just a company here to reel you in and take your money! They would have gladly came and serviced a piece that is not needed on my water heater every year for $300.... such a rip off!!! I now have scolding hot water and a plumber I can trust! read more

Clay S. made a first visit to our home, diagnosed our three separate plumbing problems (pressure control valve on water main into house was going, incoming water pipe on laundry sink was leaking and a brass washer had "cut" through the plastic piping, and we needed to replace our 1988 laundry sink faucet which was dripping), told us what to buy (a new laundry sink faucet), and returned the next day to do the work. He was very pleasant, obviously very experienced, cleaned up after his work, and handled the credit card payment efficiently. We are thrilled to have a new plumber! read more

Email I sent to them - good explanation of their service after the sale. Still waiting for a technician to come to our home and fix AC. UNBELIEVABLE Hi, Purchased new AC/Heat unit from your company Raleigh, NC location June 2016. May 2017, major part broke service called placed May 2017. TWO months later, AC finally fixed. May 2018, same part broke, part was under warranty-service call placed. July 6th tech came with part only to tell me he could not do the job it required two technicians. Promised to return to fix July 14th. NO SHOW. Husband and I have placed so many calls from May to today. I phoned Corporate Customer Relations 7/17 spoke with Kelia who promised she'd call me back no later 7/18. Still waiting for her to call WOW. Another two month wait to fix a par that continues to break down. WHAT TYPE OF COMPANY IS THIS?? During purchasing and installing the unit, I had ARS guys all over the place wanting to help and get the job done. Service after has been a living NIGHTMARE that we can't wake up from. I have even reached out to our local TV News station's Troubleshooter Diane Wilson (ABC 11 WTVD) for help. I even touched base again with her this morning. I will be glad to send you the email I sent directly to her. We need someone at our house this SATURDAY. I have no more vacation time to give up for your NO SHOW or CAN'T HELP YOU technicians. read more

ARS are provide poor quality service. They are trained to cause problems with your system to charge you additional fees. On 10/28/15, they removed the old drain pain, and float switch. Installed a new drain pain, float switch and cement blocks. Well the outcome today is that we had water all in our attic and the drain pain was overflowing because the representative cut off our secondary line and failed to install a new line. We now have to spend over $500 to get it repaired. I called ARS last Thursday(July 5th). The representative informed me someone would be in touch with me that day. Well, nobody called until Friday. My husband and I had to leave home, turn off the AC until we returned. On April 5, 2018 the representative came out to service our unit for the summer and didn't say anything about what they saw. How if you are a licensed trained technician and you don't see the faulty work that was completed by the previous technician. Nobody followed up with us until I called today(July 9th) Since they never contacted us, we had to get another vendor to come to our home and make the repair. I have taken pictures of everything, and I will show the news media about this. This is absolutely ridiculous. Sheila Stephens Cary, NC read more

They gave me a 5 hour window. FIVE HOURS. After waiting 7 hours I called and canceled. They may have the best technicians in the world and do absolutely amazing things but I'll never know. I was a new customer (or was going to be) but I won't call them back. read more

This company is getting many terrible reviews recently and they are no mistake or by some people with an axe to grind. My experience, although different, is just another example of the way this company does business. I initially responded on the Home Depot site to have the Home Depot "official" installation firm contact me regarding the install of a Home Depot sold outside central a/c compressor unit and its matching inside condenser coil to be mounted to my just fine working gas heater unit. ARS called, and I asked them if they are the "official" Home Depot installation firm for HVAC products sold at Home Depot. The phone scheduling agent said "yes". The next day before I allowed the ARS rep. in my home I then asked the ARS Rep if he will quote the install price of the units I wanted to purchase at Home Depot. He said "yes". The ARS Rep. took a photo of the inside units - the condenser coil, air handler and furnace - but didn't even bother to remove the outside panel on the furnace unit to have a look inside. I told him the outside unit was shut down and I had others submitting bids on this project. He didn't bother to confirm what was broken on the outside unit which others had done. He then submitted a series of three quotes as best, good, or just OK of complete RHEEM HVAC systems -outside compressor,-inside condenser coil-air handler furnace units; $8,800, $8,400, 7,900 All three quotes included a new furnace even though he never even bothered to spend 10 seconds to inspect my furnace. Keep in mind that the retail price of the two units I wished to purchase at Home Depot were $2,600 + installation and did not include a furnace that I do not need. ARS is selling RHEEM units and their sales manager told me that they "are not licensed to sell Home Depot products". I told him that they are the "Official" Home Depot HVAC contractors so how could they not install HVAC products sold by Home Depot? No Answer. I've purchased HVAC component parts (compressor units, condenser coils, furnaces) in other US cities in the past but there seems to be a lot of funny business going on in Raleigh with selling HVAC components that customers do not need and pushing products that are advantageous to the seller and not the buyer. Spend time to learn a little about HVAC systems to defend yourself from predators like ARS. Rember; BUYER BEWARE! read more

Although their staff is polite and friendly, their technicians are not always well trained. ARS called to schedule a routine maintenance check on the cooling units, (which they installed 4 years ago and were working perfectly) but after the technician left, the unit quit working! He had reported that there were no issues or problems with the unit. ARS was contacted, and they had to send another technician out to fix something that the first technician failed to secure on the unit! Meanwhile, we had no AC due to an error on the technician's part. Not good. read more

Rasheen B, Alex T, and Charlie J installed a new furnace and ductwork today. They showed professionalism and courtesy beyond expectations. After the job was complete, they cleaned up all debris. We had a plugged kitchen drain and called ARS because we were suckered by the advertising on the radio. I was told of a $79 "diagnostic fee" which would be applied against the repair. Well guess what, it wasn't and the 15 miunutes it took to clear the obstruction cost us $318!!! That amounts to over $1200 per hour. What an absolute ripoff. This seems unethical. My hot water stopped working correctly on Wednesday night. I called ARS on Thursday morning & was told they would be out to look at it on Saturday between 9-11. On Saturday at 7:58, I received a call, but I didn't have my phone with me. They called again at 8:12 & left a message to call them. They called again at 8:25 & left a message that I would have to reschedule. I finally picked up my phone, saw their calls, & called them at 8:28. I was told that I would have to reschedule on Monday. I found this to be terrible service since ARS had a 2 hour window to show up, but I had less than a 30 minute window to respond to their call about dispatching a technician! Plus, I wasn't given an option of later in the day on Saturday; they immediately went to Monday scheduling! And, this was after I had already waited 2 days to get the hot water heater fixed! Not good! Really terrible service for an operation advertised as "24/7"! read more

Had a polybutelene pipe randomly burst which caused a lot of flooding damage. I shut off the water and called ARS to respond after normal business hours. Was told to expect a call from a tech "shortly" but heard nothing back for over an hour so I called again to check on the status. The woman I spoke with, a different person that the one who took my original call for service, sounded confused and initially could not find my information. She sounded scattered and nervous and said someone will call you back, which did happen a few minutes later, yet another woman who seemed to be in control of things this time, and was told to expect plumber Andrew within 30 minutes, which also happened. Andrew arrived and assessed the leak and showed me the problem. He provided an estimate (very expensive but he doesn't control the prices) and explained exactly what he was going to do. I just wanted it repaired and my water restored so I authorized the job. He had the repairs done in less than 40 minutes and in fact changed out three other accessible polybutelene fittings for no additional cost. He also conducted a pressure test and determined that my pressure regulator while old was well within normal operating range. He was quite professional and knowledgeable, a guy you just feel knows what he's doing. He did offer to upsell me a new pressure regulator and cut off valve at a discount if I authorized them right away, but I declined on both since they really were not necessary and also quite pricey. I actually felt bad that Andrew had to be placed in the position of salesman as well as plumber but that's part of the business I suppose. Anyway, while I believe I could have had this work done at a substantially lower cost with another company had i waited til the next day this was also an emergency, I had no water. In spite of the front office hiccup (I'm sorry you're who calling about what?) they did respond and they did fix the problem. Andrew knew exactly what he was doing, he was a very nice guy, and he was quite professional. Not cheap, but in a pinch ARS will help you. read more

Fed up! Had my fill. Two years ago, I replaced my complete AC/Heating System. My home was built in 2005, but the previous system (being only 9 years old) was installed erroneously according to my new AC folks, and instead of trying to fix all of the BS, I decided to just replace the unit. In 2014, I spent $20,000.00 dollars on a new system, with air scrubbers, and the works. The returns were too small for the original builder's special which was installed by Weather Master, and the upstairs unit was zoned incorrectly and was insufficient to cool the entire 2nd & 3rd floors. Never mind the builder (McNeil Burbank) didn't insulate the room over the garage very well, but it would not have mattered cause the unit was too small to cool the area anyways. In 2015, just a few months after my new install, the coils freeze on the upstairs unit. A couple of days later, a service tech comes out and "fixes" the issue. It works for a while, then freezes again in a few months. Now the tech comes out and replaces the coils in May of 2015. A year goes by and the coils are now frozen again on my brand new, top of the line system. I WANT TO RATE THIS BELOW 1 STAR because they do not deserve a star right now! When they fix my issue (for good) I will gladly re-rate them but for now I am fed up with this BS! For the last 5 years, I have had issues with my Heating and AC. I am tired of sleeping in a hot house. I am tired of the band aids. I'm glad it is not the middle of July or August! read more

Beware single ladies. I had a HVAC condensate drainage tube break off from the outside of my house and ARS came to repair the pipe. Repair person was professional and efficient- no complaints there. Because my HVAC unit was getting older he asked if I would like to have a salesperson give me a quote for a new unit, for future budgeting purposes with no obligation to purchase. I was very clear that I was not in the market to buy a new unit when the salesperson came to my door- I only wanted a quote. He did a nice job explaining the different units and was very knowledgeable. Obviously this guy was under a tremendous amount of pressure to make a sale. When I politely explained to him I had just finished paying private school tuition for my special needs son and COULD NOT buy a new unit that day- he threw his pen across the table and said he had to call his boss and "explain" this situation to him. He proceeded to call and put his boss on speaker phone. He explained to his boss "I was just throwing away money" but choosing not to buy a unit. I lost my patience. I told them I didn't care for their super aggressive, borderline bullying tactics- inside my own home! I told him I was going to end the call myself and his salesperson needed to leave immediately or things would turn uglier. I pressed the red button to end the call on his phone and asked the salesperson to leave right away, which he did. Beware, beware- don't invite them in unless you are prepared to threaten them to leave. read more

I am so done with ARS. 11 years ago when I asked for a good basic HVAC system for the house, they upsold me on a fancy and expensive Carrier unit. It has had problems- sometimes multiple ones- every year since then, and the original problem it took them five years of tinkering to finally figure out. The "maintenance plan" service for which I've been paying monthly- which is SUPPOSED to give you "priority service" during emergencies, like now, doesn't actually give you squat- I can have a tech visit in three days. Lucky me. Last tech visit, the guy was more interested in putting me in touch with a salesman to buy a new unit than fixing what was wrong. I'm not BUYING anything else from ARS. They sold me garbage, they don't stand behind it, they fooled me into paying for "special status" that they didn't deliver. I'm done with them. Period. They're probably lucky I'm too hot right now to consider a fraud or bad faith dealings lawsuit. read more

First of all, Mostafa was very professional and courteous as he came for a scheduled service call as part of the maintenance program I paid for. KUDOS to Mostafa. I also must say, it is best to stay clear of these maintenance programs. It is like taking your car to the shop for a routine check-up. It gives the company an opportunity to suck up as much money as possible on a visit. The guilt trip comes in........."get it fixed at now $$$ or your in real trouble down the road." I will wait 'til it breaks next time and call a local guy that sidelines in servicing HVAC. It will always be cheaper. Sorry Mostafa, you were great, your company not so much. read more

We first called ARS in October when we bought our house. We weren't sure when the last maintenance had been on our HVAC system and wanted to get it checked out. Was working fine when he arrived, but noticed truck was wrong company I usually use. Before leaving they did no tune up but charged me for one and said my freon low- very cold when they arrived. I would be needing a evap coil.capacitor &contactor. Best to just get new unit. Thousands and thousands of dollars quoted. Would send salesman out next day. Amazingly enough- after he left- my house got warmer and warmer. AC has not worked anymore since. I refused to see salesman and am getting Michael & sons back out to inspect & see what they did to sabatage unit. I live on Soc. Sec and cannot afford a new unit. I purchased freon on line and pray they did not damage any parts. Awaiting new inspection & freon to arrive, otherwise this senior citizen will be living in dangerous heat thanks to their dishonesty. Do not use them. Oh, and I used them 2 years ago for a plumbing problem and have not been able to use bathroom since. Unfortunately, now I remember it was them- flooded bathroom- ruined toilet- floor etc. Have not been able to use master bath since. I only wanted new guts placed inside toilet- it was not done either, but I was charged for it & I had to clean up mess. (I was unsure how new float worked or I would have done it myself. I supplied the complete product package purchased at Lowes and he did not even open package but charged me for it and installation. Found pkg sitting in bathtub after he left with curtain closed.) toilet then began to leak from top and at floor after they left and rotted floor etc..they broke a pipe also and I had a 2000.00 H20 bill, which took me a 16 mos. to pay off- and had to pay another plumber to fix pipe and turn H20 off until I can afford repairs again. Annual A/C check. Codie N was our service technician. He was very nice, respectful, thorough, and explained the procedures he performed.

Originally had a miss wired capacitor that required two wires to be switched. They charged almost $200 for 30 seconds of work. For a little more They offered two cleanings and making lemonade out of lemons I took it. Big mistake, each cleaning took minimal time less than hour which other professionals deem a "drive-by" cleaning. Each visit the system is found to have problems costing in the thousands to repair. Most recently I was told that both evaporator coils are and have been leaking and require immediate replacement to the tune of $6000...2 to 4x what other services charge. When the tech was asked if the freon was low, a logical question with a leak requiring immediate repair, he acknoledged it was "in tolerances" and required no freon. Buyer beware! read more

We had several companies come out to our home to give us quotes for a new HVAC sytem, ARS being one of them. The sales lady that came out seemed very nice and professional. She gave us a very thorough quote and we were very impressed. Once we received three other quotes, all of which were $2000-$3000 more expensive than ARS, we informed the sales lady that we would not being using her services. It was like Jekyll and Hyde. Her once professional demeanor was gone and she became very snappy over the phone. She wanted to know what company we were going with and even wanted us to send her a copy of the quote. I explained to her that we had already signed paperwork and made our decision. Over the course of the next three days, she sent myself and my husband emails, text messages, phone calls at 8:00 at night, and even a certified letter via FedEx. She even threatened us and tried to bully us into using ARS by telling us that we would have to pay to have permits transferred over to the new company even though we did not sign any paperwork or put any money down. Needless to say, I will not be using ARS for any of my home repairs and I do not recommend this company. Completely unprofessional. read more

We lost our heat in the January cold snap and called during business hours, and did not get a response to set up an appointment for 36 hours and then took another day to get a technician to show up. I have a huge gravel driveway and he pulled into the wet front yard and left ruts. Worse yet, the technician said my circuit board was bad and was not igniting gas pack. To replace this part would be $1158. Additionally he said the burner were bad and that would be $600 to replace. He recommended not repairing the unit and suggested I get a new unit. HE would have someone schedule then next day to get me a quote and charged $99 for the "diagnosis." They never followed up. Day 5 without heat I contacted another heating and A/C repair service. The tech was shocked at what I had been told and especially the rip-off level prices. Long story short, the circuit board cost $106 (not $1158!) and was running great within 15 minutes. No need to replace burners, but if I needed that, they only cost $20 each, times 3; so $60, not $600! Beware of businesses like this that rely on radio ads. If they were good, they could do well with referrals alone. Fraudulent business practices and terrible customer service. read more

My elderly parents recently called a plumber. The toilet kept running. My Dad can fix about anything but is 83 & was not feeling good. They did not call ARS however that is who showed up. ARS said they had bought out the other company. The plumber was in & out in 10 min & charged $219 to replace rubber flap. The part is only about $5. The next morning the toilet was still running. Dad went to Lowe's & bought the part he needed. He fixed it where ARS did not. The part ARS used looks old. They may have not even replaced the part. While at Lowe's my Dad discovered he could have had the entire toilet replaced for $180 labor included. Repeated calls trying to reach the manager of ARS were futile. A complaint has been filed with the BBB. I might file a complaint with the NC Attorney General's office. One star is too good but was the lowest rating I could give. Please do not call ARS.
