So happy to be back at Aroma's. I used to eat here almost weekly when work was in Wilton. The service has always been good and friendly. However, the highlight is the food. They have the best huancaina sauce over potatoes, the lomo dishes are fantastic, but my favorite here is the chuleta frita (pork chops) perfectly fried, with a good amount of fat-to-meat ratio, and the aji sauce adds extra umph. Absolutely shocked that this neighborhood gem has little reviews. First off, besides the great service and great tasting food - what is absolutely a huuuge force to reckon with is actually the PORTIONS. Holy smokes! The $30 aromas combo features a whole chicken, huge plate of salad, fries and chaufa (fried rice!). But wait- there is more! They also include a liter bottle of soda. Whaaat!!?? This had to be the first point of this review - that is how critical it is!! Peruvian cuisine is very delicious! From the rottiserie flavors in the chicken to variations of the Latin flavors and fusion that also comes from Asia and prob other regions. As a result, it is not easy to master. Having tried many peruvian places across the country- not all can be considered the same. But what holds true for all- is their packed filled profiles in the flavor department. This is a local gem. Patrons are from the area. Carry outs are also busy too. The fried seafood (Jalea) was also huge. They serve medium and large. They also included crabs in their order. Amazing! Next is their fettuccine with pesto sauce. The plate was large because the food size was large. Literally, our two tables did not have enough room for these plates!! Their green sauce is immaculate! As we walked in it had a nice open space with tables placed alongside the walls and they had salsa music playing in the background. Prices, cleanliness, food and customer service were overall very good. They also serve plenty so come hungry. They serve beer but no cocktails. I have gone to this place for years, I love the food. However today visit was soo disappointing. Their ajo sauce was so water down. There apple juice literally tasted like Mott's apple sauce with water added we and the worst part of all they added tip to my bill without even asking. I understand for 6 or more you add tip however if it just me and one other person you legally cannot add tip. This behavior is unethical. This was my favorite restaurant of all time. Love this place. So homey and fresh. Our second time here and we shared choritos ala chalaca (mussels, lime juice, diced onions, tomatoes and Cusco corn)...SO fresh! And this appetizer plate is so generous. Also shared the bistec encobollado (steak coated and sautéed with onions and tomatoes with a side of rice). Great flavors, perfectly prepared. An explosion of flavors in every bite. Finally, the salsa verde that comes with warm bread is smooth and flavorful with a hint of spice. While we were eating, the baker from next door (Forever Sweet) came in to pick up his dinner and offered us each a cupcake. What a great neighborhood. read more

But you can't judge a restaurant by its neighborhood clutter. Aromas provides a dining experience for all tastes. The traditional Peruvian items are well-balanced delights relying on fresh ingredients & the subtle hand of their cooks. You will never be disappointed with Aromas shrimp dishes. The Southwest/Mexican dishes are equally well-prepared and served in abundance. Take-out service is fast due,in part, to a very friendly and helpful staff in the front of the house. It was one of those pre wrapped ones and when I opened mine, I noticed right away that the knife was dirty. I looked at the fork and same thing. The napkin seemed used as well. This quaint little shop is a Hidden Gem. They offer delicious Peruvian style platters at reasonable prices. I came in for a business lunch. the waitress was pleasant and helpful. I ordered the mixed seafood platter with rice. It was a large plate full of mussels squid shrimp and egg. vegetables were sauteed into the rice. My mouth was doing the happy dance. I would certainly come here again if in the area. The place was clean. Reggaeton playing on the radio. This review is for take out only!! First the name on the building is Amores. Which resulted in me driving by it 4 times before calling to ask the address. The lady who answered spoke almost no English and finally I got her to say Walgreens which helped me find it. I ordered there and waited- wasn't long about 15 mins. I got the chaufa de camerones and the spaghetti with shrimp as well. Both were fantastic- we always get the shrimp And this was by far the best seasoned shrimp we have gotten in our Peruvian food before. Big portions (two meals) and one of the better versions of these dishes I've had in CT. Prices were comparable to what I've seen so not bad. The "green sauce" was a little liquidity but it tasted good. Wish we were given more but I did recall seeing a sign that charged for extra/bigger sizes. The place itself left a lot to be desired. I was so excited to find this authentic Peruvian restaurant. I stopped for takeout one evening after work. The staff was courteous and the service was prompt. There were a few people dining in and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I can't wait to try some other menu items. I ordered a stir fried chicken dish served with rice and fries. The pollo Milanese came after the fact & it was the thinnest piece of chicken breast I've ever seen. Didn't care for the dressing on the salad. Had to ask for limes. The food is pretty good, however you should be aware that the online menu pricing is different than the pricing when you walk in and pay. They are fully aware. The woman said she had all the prices updated, however it was written on the paper menu in her hand, which I explained. The online menu pricing I pulled up was not honored. It may only have been an additional $4 Extra on a small order, however if in a budget or expecting to pay something, take into consideration there's been an increase in pricing. The chicken and steak lomo are both yummy. The alfahores were good but you will need a drink as they suck the moisture out of your mouth. We were driving through states and didn't want to stop at another fast food restaurant. This was a good casual dining spot. The food was good, bathrooms were surprising very nice and clean. The service was a tab bit slower than we hoped since we were traveling through but it was worth it to get decent food. I'd recommend the steak, it was amazing. I've eaten a lot of Peruvian restaurants and the chicken wasn't as good as other places I've had. It was a little dry and didn't have as much flavor as I anticipated. Overall, good spot. read more

So glad they changed the sign to Aromas. I had no idea this place did Peruvian food until they did. I finally got the chance to stop in last night after seeing they had my favorite dish. First, I really liked the set up of the place. It was pretty spacious and I definitely wouldn't mind eating in there sometime in the future. I got to the counter and the woman working was very friendly and welcoming. I knew I was absolutely getting the Jaela, but I had to ask about other dishes since it was my first time there and she was very helpful. She said it would be about a 10-15 minute wait so I left and came back. When I did, she said they had actually run out of the the fish they used in the dish. While that was disappointing, she did let me know that the chef threw in some extra shrimp and calamari, which I was totally fine with. When I got home, I was expecting to have only a few more pieces, but, wow. I think the amount of calamari I had was probably equivalent to 2 calamari appetizers, and there was definitely more shrimp than I usually get with this dish at other Peruvian places. All that along with the crab, mussels, and cassava, so this was definitely a lot of food, for only 15 bucks, too! And it was all delicious. All the seafood was beautifully fried, the cassava still had the right texture after being under all that seafood in a takeout container, which surprised me, and the staff was very smart and put the onion salad in a separate container so nothing got soggy. I have to agree with the review below about the Aji, though. It was definitely quite liquid-y, but it still tasted fantastic and was thick enough for me to put into a bowl and dip every piece of food I had into it, so no complaints from me. Just a heads up for anyone expecting a thick sauce. I'm really glad I decided to stop in because that meal was absolutely delicious. First time eating from there and their lomo saltado was ok . I did not dine in and called for takeout instead . After picking up my food, the minute I got out of my car and started to walk to my door , the food ripped through the bag. I called to tell them what had happened . You could tell the guy that answered didn't know what to say to me but instead he hung the phone up . I called back again and no answer . On my 3rd try the lady picked up the phone and I told her what happened with my food and she basically said it wasn't their problem. I told her that I at least would to be reimburse for the extra sauce I paid for and I would be more then happy to provide pictures . She said to me that it's not their fault the bag ripped . They are no longer given out plastic bags and that I should have been holding my food from from the bottom of the bag. Whose says that to a paying customer ?
