My friend who lives across the street from Aroma has been mentioning how lively it is which put them on my radar. With no real plans for Labor Day, I picked Aroma for our dinner date. We attempted to make reservations but noone answered the phone. No big deal, if they were closed, Jerry's Seafood is right across the street.. Lol Once we arrived we saw the door was open so Aroma it is! We stood at the front hostess stand for what seemed like 15 minutes before someone finally came out and said we can choose our own outdoor seat. Walking through the restaurant I noticed that there were no traditional tables but couches and a cool bar. I wonder what it looks like with a nice sized dinner crowd?!? Once we got outside, there were tons of tables and cool lights which put us in the mind of South Beach! :) After 10min, we received water. 30min after that, we received complimentary chicken wings for the delay. 15min after that, we received another complimentary order of wings and 20min after that, we finally placed our drink order. Now, I was being stubborn because my girl said let's leave a long time ago. I was determined to stay to scratch this off my list and be able to tell the world about it.. Lol! Our server was frustrated and opened up to us. She said they are normally closed on Mondays but management decided last minute to open for the holiday which made them quickly put a staff together which caused the delay. HOWEVER, when I went on 9/9/25 for dinner with my friends I didn't know that apparently they lost their liquor license. I'm not sure when or how long that's been but I was there for the food. Well when the food came out we all were Highly disappointed in the quality of the food. I paid for food I didn't even eat because it was that bad. Friday night was packed at about 8pm. The music was good, a mix of afro-beats and hip hop. The crowd I would say ranges from 20's to mostly 30's with a sprinkle of 35+. I wouldn't get too dressed up to come here, it's very much a casual club/lounge vibe; not the Happy Hour after work crowd. I may comeback on a different night to compare. The wings I ordered were decent paired with a spicy dipping sauce. The sautéed veggies were perfect texture, but salty. The red wine, not the best quality. I saw lots of colorful mixed drinks, so if you like those, they have lots to choose from. We sat at the bar, as pretty as they were ( the emerald green velvet and gold) chairs are not functional. I could barely slide in and out of my space and they were cut really narrow. The bartenders were nice and attentive! I would go back for the music. We definitely need a few more places like this in the Bowie/Largo area with good Happy Hour prices. Damn I miss Half Note. On December 18, 2024, I made a reservation online for a birthday celebration on December 20, 2024, at 7:30 M.Th. reservation was made in good faith, and I followed up on December 19, 2024, around 8:05 PM to ensure everything was in order, especially since we had a large party. Unfortunately, when I called, the staff member I spoke with seemed unenthusiastic and her response gave the impression that my inquiry was more of an inconvenience. Additionally, I was informed that your establishment had lost its liquor license. While I understand that such circumstances can arise, I feel it would have been more appropriate and professional to notify me of this issue at the time of booking or as soon as it became known. This would have allowed me to make an informed decision regarding our celebration. Despite this notification we still wanted to try the establishment since we had never been. First, after placing our order, which included wings, plantains, Jollof rice, pasta, and goat, the majority of the food came out cold. The only exception was the plantains, which were served at an appropriate temperature. Given the long wait time, several members of our party ate the food despite it being cold, while most of the meal was sent back due to its unsatisfactory condition. This was disappointing, especially given the anticipation for a special occasion. Additionally, there were multiple instances where our waitress forgot to bring drinks that were ordered, requiring us to request them several times. It should be noted that our waitress was overworked with our party size making drinks and taking orders. There were other staff members on hand that could have helped in other ways. This lack of attention to detail further contributed to our frustration and impacted the overall experience. While I understand that mistakes can happen, the combination of cold food, delays, and inconsistent service was unacceptable. Upon speaking with the manager on duty, a dark-skinned female with braids, I explained the numerous problems we encountered, including the cold food and inconsistent service. Our bill came to $252, and I expressed that, given the poor service and food quality, the price we paid was not reasonable. After a respectful conversation, the manager offered a $40 discount, which I appreciated. However, I was still dissatisfied with the response and overall handling of the situation. When I mentioned that our party was not satisfied with the experience and suggested paying half the bill due to the circumstances, the manager responded, "What do you want me to do?" in a manner that seemed dismissive. I then asked when the owner would be available to speak with me about our concerns, to which the manager replied, "I don't know." After further questioning, she stated the owner would be in "tomorrow," despite having previously said she didn't know when he would be there. This inconsistency, combined with her visible frustration--evidenced by eye rolling, heavy sighing, and an overall unpleasant demeanor--made our experience even more disappointing. It's important to note that, despite our frustrations, we expressed a willingness to return to give the establishment another chance if service improved. Overall the experience was okay. The jollof wrap was not bad but not amazing. The price on the menu was $18 but they charged us double for it. The told us it was extra for protein but the menu does not clarify that. We also got different protein included than what was asked and it definitely wasn't worth an $18 up charge. Our waitress was kind and so was everyone else but there were so many random problems with our meal and with seating that the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. My friend visited this place before on a Saturday night and exclaimed that it was a very good night with great service and generous drinks. We arrived, and parking was so easy-free and readily walkable to the door, though we got there around 10pm. The security was very pleasant towards us, and we seamlessly entered the venue. The bathroom is clean and spacious, and well lit with plenty of mirrors!! bravo!! Like most yelpers have explained, the inside decor and seating are very stylish and lush. The overall space is not big, and there's an outdoor area with heated lamps. The bar stools, though stylish, are a little narrow, and if you are very well endowed with hips, or if you are a larger guy, you will not be comfortable in these seats. The service at bar was attentive with 3 bartenders available, though it took a while for them to clear the drinks and napkins from the previous patrons...which caused a slight pile up on the bar. btw, there's an automatic gratuity of 18% added to the bill. The music, of course was on point, but if you want to request a song, you will have to walk outside, and then upstairs to even see the DJ. We didn't try the food..and Im not particularly into hookah, so I can't give feedback on those 2 aspects, but based on the my experience and other yelpers' feedback, this place (at night) seems best to get there a little early, grab a few drinks, and enjoy the vibe for a bit, and then move on to your next destination (whether it be home or another lounge). The lounge is really well decorated and has a nice vibe to it when you walk in, a little dark at first but we adjust; not a lot of space to move about but there was also a heated tent connected which provided more room. We were able to sit in the comfy couches and ordered some drinks. The rum punch was really good and the bartender was really generous! Lol For starters we ordered the Caribbean Wings, which had a really good flavor but there was a lot going on with the assorted peppers and onions, I am also not a fan of "sweet" chicken so it's not something I would order again. I decided to order the Aroma Ceasar Salad as my main meal, yes because I was playing it safe but I was not disappointed it was very delicious. The right amount of chicken. dressing and salad mix, it was so much salad, I had to take it to go. When I return, I would honestly try it again because I enjoyed the flavors. Our server, Jonathan was nice. There is plenty of parking behind the lounge. It's also a very beautiful place. The music is good and the patio is very cute. Now, let's start with the service. When we went on the patio, all the managers , and servers were just chilling and drinking and not even paying attention to the people needing service. Next, once we ordered our drinks, it took over 20 mins. Then, we ordered the Caribbean wings, oxtails, red stew. It took over 45 mins for the food to come out. When the wings came out, they were cold. We sent them back and they were rubbery. My red stew was disgusting and had a bad aftertaste. For African rice, it looked like white rice and had no veggies. The plantains were over cooked and burnt.I spent about $180 on food. It was such a waste of my time and money! We ended up at Jerry's Seafood across the street. It is very heartbreaking that after coming to this restaurant and spending more than a $100 per visit. The restaurant implemented a policy to leave your credit card before ordering a drink. I asked to talk to the owner or a manager and I was told that they were not available. Absolutely delicious grilled fish. I will definitely be getting that again, the plantains and rice with it were cooked perfectly. There was quite a wait for food but so worth it. The musical selection was great- heavy on the afrobeats which i love. My spicy margarita was SPICY-the hottest ive had if i wasnt making it myself, so i really appreciated it but if you can only handle the 'average' spicy marg, it might be a bit much. But where the night went completely wrong was the service. We sat at the bar and ordered 2 Victoria Long Island ice teas and sliders. 30 min later, the waitress never came back with our drinks (she forgot). Then, i reminded her about the sliders which came out about an hour later. But guess what, the bartender/server "Tutu" drops the sliders on the bar table and proceeds to pick it up with her bare hands to put it back on the plate to try to serve to me, ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! I immediately told her that i no longer wanted them. If she was willing to do that in front of patrons, I can't imagine what they're doing in the back. I've never experienced outright disrespect and disgust like that.... NEVER AGAIN. If you care about your health, i wouldn't go either. I was so excited to see a West African establishment in this area! We went as a walk-in by the recommendation of my husbands coworker. Walking in and speaking with the hostess, my excitement intensified. I gladly accepted! Ambiance: absolutely beautiful! The decor from the reception area throughout the restaurant was absolutely beautiful and provided a very nice lounge feel. Outside seating: the outside seating left a lot to be desired. We were attacked by flies, which their presence is to be expected during this season but they were not prepared with anything to deter them. Service: the servers were very nice and attentive. Food: now on to the food... the main reason we chose this restaurant and invited my mother in law to join us. We order the Suya, Red Stew, the oxtails, the Egusi, Afang and ginger beer for our drinks. All of which were delivered in a timely fashion. The Suya was the thinnest cut of meat I've ever seen used for Suya, but had decent flavor. Rather pricey too for 3 pieces. The Red Stew, was flavorful but still just ok. The oxtails confused us. I'm not sure what they were aiming for but they were burnt. The Egusi was actually the best dish we ordered, but it even tasted differently than expected. It reminded us all of bitter leaves. The Afang, I'd never had anywhere before, but it wasn't what I expected and had the least amount of flavor. Last item to review is the ginger beer. Again, it was just ok. I'm not sure if the ice impacted the flavor but it was not good. We had l Grand finale of the night, after we've paid the bill, to which they automatically added the gratuity for our party of 3, we noticed a bandaid in our water pitcher... yes a bandaid. By God's grace it was not used and still in the wrapper, but it was still in our water. When I entered the restaurant everyone looked confused. So I walked up to the front desk and asked how long was the wait. I was told 1.5-2 hrs for a wait but that the bar and outside lounge was open. We ended up sitting at the bar. The staff at the bar were very kind and informative. The drinks were pretty good, We ordered our food and within 30 mins my friend's food was delivered, she ate while I was still waiting for my food which came another 25-30 minutes later. I also ordered food to go (snails) and I got 4pcs for $38. Make it make sense Around 8:50pm we were told that our seats would be taken around 9pm. I was glad our food was gone by then because we saw that others seats were taken away and they had to stand to eat whole meals. We were told we can smoke hookah outside But if we go outside we would have to purchase a $300 bottle. Overall it was nothing to brag home about. Music was kinda too loud but the sofas and the lighting were good. Unfortunately we sat too long waiting for a server to come take our order. Also be advised that their hookah prices are somewhat high to me. $60 per 2 people is pushing it. To say it's because of COVID is hilarious. You don't require masks and all of the party is sitting at the same table in close proximity anyway. Anyway, prices seemed a little pricey but since I couldn't get any service I can't speak on drinks and food and the 2 stars reflect that. I always try to support new businesses, especially black owned businesses, and it pains me to leave bad reviews, but I was left no choice here. First, there is a huge staff issue where no one can give you a straight consist answer. Secondly, we were told there was a MINIMUM amount that we have to spend in order to sit at one of the tables, however, when we tried to speak to the manager about it (after asking our wonderful server to get him to come by and explain to us exactly what the process is for sitting outside) he caught an attitude with her and purposely ignored us (he passed by our table several times and never approached us). Lastly, they really need a tutorial on drinks, because I asked for a simple old fashioned and it was T-R-A-trash! I will not be back and I honestly do not see this place lasting through the end of the year. read more

Was greeted by the hostess. We sat down and waited for 30 minutes for someone to come over and take out order. There was drink menu as that was still being created. The menu was limited. The bartender informed us that all of the staff called out that day. And there was a shortage of food. We orders wings. Th wings came out. They look good but presentation was poor. They just sprinkled some peppers on top of them. Very disappointing. It was missing the mango salsa and other sauce that comes with it. I orders the jollaf wrap and rice. The wrap was good. The jollaf rice was missing something. My friend ordered the the rice and red stew with goat and beef triap. She didn't like it. We waited 15 minutes to get the bartender attention to return the stew and order something else. She ordered the pepper fish soup with the tilapia fish head in it. Presentation was interesting. She said it was spicy and had a lot of flavor to it. The drinks were okay. It was a cigar and hookah event on the patio. The place is a bit small and still needs some work done. The managerial staff was there and watched as we sat and waited for somebody to come to our table. They even walked by several Times and didn't say anything to us. As time went by of about one and half hours still no manager to come over. Where our seats were was by the vent so the heat was on. My friend and I were sweating so bad. One of the managers Ms MJ came over and introduced herself. She was very attentive. As I know it is a new establishment with a few kinks to work out as a manager or senior person you should make it your business to greet all guest. And check on them. It was a West African restaurant so most of the guest were of African descent. And it was kind of weird that the few managers that were African catered to those patrons. Not sure if I will return. Our bill was $165. Not worthy of that amount for getting only 4 okay drinks, an order of small wings, jollaf wrap and rice that was okay and fish stew. read more

The aesthetic and the music really made the experience. None of the servers acknowledged us, we had to flag one down. The server we did flag down, was nice and you could tell she was the only one in there really doing her job. My dish came out first before my partners dish came out instead of at the same time. Our appetizer was never put in twice, and we were waiting for a side dish that had ran out much earlier. Mind you, we did not hold this against our server, because we could see that she had a lot on her plate since she was the only one working. We were there a total of 3 hours and the 3 orders were spread out. We initially order everything when we first were waited on and it still took hours, to the point were we took our appetizer home to go instead and didn't bother with dessert. The appetizer should've also been taken off of the check but we were so over it, we didn't care to try and negotiate or argue. I would try it again, just to have the outside experience & I did enjoy their red stew. I'm hopeful for this place and I'm also hopeful that our experience will be much better next time. read more

Put in my order and they said it would take a half an hour to be ready. I mean, it's a Thursday night. I guess they got busy. It happens. So I drive over and the ambiance is really great. Beautiful furnishings everywhere with gold and paintings and stuff. There's a sign saying "Proper Attire Only", but I definitely saw a guy in a sleeveless shirt for the gym and people in T-shirts and such so I guess that line isn't demanding being super dressed up. Which is fine, but don't have a sign like it is demanded. Anyway, I'm now at 35 minutes since I put in the order and I was told when I showed up 15 minutes ago that my curry goat was ready. I just got asked for clarification on my wife's pasta since she didn't want chicken. So I'm assuming my curry goat is just sitting in a warmer somewhere. Also, not sure what's taking so long making an order of pasta with shrimp in it. The theme is stingy. Who they want to appeal to and the experience they think they give off isn't what they really give off at all. They are mid-range establishment but the experience isn't. First off, they make you share a menu. We waited so long to order we were being indecisive and kept grabbing that one menu back and forth. The seats were also partially wet from the rain because they just wiped down the actual seat portion but not the front part of the seat where your arm and legs go so my dress had water spots all over it. It was empty outside when we were seated. About two parties who already had their food and drink were present. We ordered our drinks and got them pretty quickly. I ordered the African Mule which was strong but good! My friend ordered the Gingaa Smash but there was rotten mint and white stuff floating in his drink. I sent it back and the waitress came back with the same drink saying it's the coating on the ginger chews. The drink was supposed to have candied ginger, not ginger chews. Those two are not the same. I would know because I eat ginger chews. Candied ginger is crystallized ginger. The drink was walked around the establishment for five minutes before we got it back. Watered down and soggy mint. They could've remade it. By this time outdoor dining started to get packed. Everyone was seated and their waitresses were taking their orders. We were still foodless. After 20-30 minutes after the drink snafu, we saw the parties that came in after us eating their entrees as we were FINALLY placing our orders. We ordered wings, curry goat, and jollof rice with salmon. We unrolled our napkins when the wings came and the silverware was wet. I asked for a fresh set. The food actually came out quickly, surprisingly. The wings came out first. They were burnt. The salsa was good but geez that meat was tough. The portions are small. They give 5 wingettes for about $15. What was the reason? The jollof was okay but the salmon was a 2oz piece of charcoal. Why are you guys overcooking food like this?? Two tablespoons of slaw and unripe "sweet" plantains. My friend loved his curry goat but he also complained about the portion size. My rice and of course the "sweet" plantains were greasy. We asked for another round when our food arrived but received the drinks after we were finished eating. I ordered the Passionfruit Lemon Drop and my friend ordered a Rum Punch. Food is delicious....however, the service is HORRIBLE. When a restaurant charges an 18% gratuity - the customer should expect first class service and not receive substandard to NO service. Waitress delivered the food - but never came back to find out if the food was good, anything else was needed, and/or to upsell the menu. Asked for the waitress so I could pay my check and then went and sat on the patio. A waitress walked a drink to the man behind me - and I asked if I could order - she responded she was only delivering items.....without asking if I needed a waitress or if she could give someone else my order. Two hours later -- as I stayed for the amazing band that plays every Sunday from 6 to 8 pm.......another young lady walked around and gave them the thumbs up....asked someone else why is she giving the thumbs up and her response was she doesn't order anything -- as the service is horrible. The restaurant itself is beautiful. At night it lights up and turns into a nightclub after 9 pm. Security does check IDs & attire at the door. They are very strict with their dress code. Food is African, so Goat, Oxtails, Cornish Hens, Jerk/Curry Chicken, Shrimp, Coconut, Rice & Peas. The food is extremely spicy and flavorful. Outdoors has plastic chairs. I sat at a high top table. I was sliding out of the chairs and sweating a lot in them. The lower tables are probably better and more comfortable. I chose to stand up to eat. Drinks were on point. I got the House Rum Punch & LemonDrop. The ambiance, palm trees, lights, artwork and light fixtures are very nice. I recommend a table inside for a better dining experience. The music is so good, Tems, Beyoncé, BurnaBoy, Afrobeats, R&B & Hip-Hop. The DJ was on point. The atmosphere really is a vibe. I would only recommend better service, friendlier staff and more interaction from the managers. read more
