Whenever I'm in need of a caffeine fix or pick me up, Aroma Joe's is one of my favorite places to stop for coffee with locations throughout southeast NH and southern Maine, including this location in Downtown Sanford which has drive-up window service. The coffee brewed here is strong just the way I like it and has a great flavor and no bitter aftertaste, very similar to the coffee I've enjoyed at Dutch Bros. Coffee (locations on the West Coast). They also serve espresso drinks, fresh baked goods, and the FroJoe Iced Coffee, a great summertime treat, pick your favorite flavors! The other night, I stopped at this Aroma Joe's for a large coffee on my way back to NH and used the drive-up window for quick and friendly service. This aroma joes used to be located down the street. It was my FAVORITE aroma joes, workers were amazing, quick service. Now they have moved down the road next door to dunkin's. Lucky for dunkin this aroma joes is so slow that everyone leaves to go to dunkin's instead. I wouldn't complain if this was a one time thing, I was thinking they were just busy with the new place. But I shouldn't have to wait 30 mins when there's only 3 cars in front of me. Blanket statement for this franchise- it's not for real coffee drinkers. Yeah, I think it's cool they have so many flavored espresso drinks. But, what's the point in having an espresso drink when all you can taste is whatever Torani syrup blend that is in said order? I don't need a 50gram sugar drink at 8am. I have to admit I've never asked nor ordered my usual drink at any cafe- double espresso over ice with coconut milk. But, they don't have the option. Great products, but customer service is so poor here. I went in on a Saturday morning. No one working the store front. So the note said "yell down the hall, or use the drive through." We went to go ask for someone. They said they will be right with us. We waited almost 10 minutes, no one came to help so we left. Today I used the drive through. There was a line which is expected. The lady in front of me the workers friends. They talked for 3-4 minutes, than took her order. She drove up to the pick up window & continued to talk to their friend for another 2-3 minutes. Meanwhile the line was so backed up, people couldn't wait because they were also taking in a delivery. If a business cannot staff a location fully and their is not proper management in place to watch over things, people will go elsewhere. No one wants to get out of their car if they want to sit & relax only to get back in their car to wait at the drive through because staff is too busy talking to their friends that come through. read more

We decided to try Aroma Joe's while we were out shopping. We had heard that their product was better than many other coffee shops so we were enthusiastic to give them a try. Their menu has a lot of offerings! We had a hard time choosing what to order! We both went with the Avalanche Lattes. Our drinks were very disappointing. Our coffee was barely warm. I prefer Aroma Joe's to Dunkin Donuts- the coffee tastes way better. I would say it is middle-ground for me. I prefer local coffee shops but if I need something quick and inexpensive, I'll stop by AJ's over DD's. Prices are reasonable, I think. Food selection leaves a lot to be desired and I wish they had more of a variety. It would be nice to see more hot breakfast options especially at this location since it has an actually store with seating. That is another reason why I like the Sanford AJ's- you can go inside! The atmosphere is really cool being in an old bank. And there is, of course, the seating area in the old bank vault which is really hip looking. In all honesty, I wouldn't sit in there for fear of being locked in (silly, I know, but claustrophobia...) but I appreciate the charm it adds. Also, even if I had any desire to sit in the vault, I've never been able to because people monopolize the area and use it as their own personal space for hours and hours (annoying). Staff are generally very friendly here and service is quick. Definitely not high end coffee but I still enjoy coming here to read a book and people-watch out the large window. read more

French vanilla ice coffee made perfect everytime, flavor always consistent and delicious!!! Can't say that about all the aroma joes in the area- this one is the best! Ok well Im editing my review, the last couple of months Ive been so disappointed. Im sure coffee drinkers (addicts) can agree the idea of getting coffee is invigorating but when you get it and it sucks, life sucks for the duration of the cup and then some. And unfortunately Aroma Joes has SUC*** lately, Ive been to the one in biddeford, rochester, Sanford and Springvale and everytime no bueno. So Ive resolved to brewing at home because dunking donuts is hit or miss and I dont have any starbucks by me. What I will say is if you want good coffee try Coffee by Design from right in Portland I buy their frendch vanilla but all their stuff is great, and Godiva- EXCELLENT!!! A little pricey but Ive figured brewing at home averages out the same as going to Aroma Joes Everyday. Very HIGH marks for the taste of the coffee, the speed of service, and the variety of options for coffee. I'm addicted to Dark Roast, and there are few other brands out there that taste as good as Aroma Joe's. Coffee here makes Dunkin Donuts coffee taste like Diesel Fuel by comparison. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is because the owner of Aroma Joe's seems to have made a business out of hiring only certain types of high school kids (girls mostly) with a certain set of characteristics. If you've been to enough of these establishments, you'll quickly realize what I'm talking about. I'm not sure why this is a part of the business plan, but I'm actually surprised the owner hasn't gotten in trouble for it yet. Regardless, I like the coffee. This particular location is cool because it's the one Aroma Joe's where you can go inside and sit - and it's a rare location (former bank) where you can actually sit inside of the old bank vault -- assuming there aren't high school kids hanging out in there and making out (as happened one time we went). It's a local hang-out for high school kids, and often the workers have friends loitering around as well - so going inside isn't quite as fun for us. I hit up the new South Berwick location on the way, and downtown Sanford / Marden's parking lot drive up during the rest of my stay. Their flavored coffee's are a little too sweet for me, so I usually ask for a couple less pumps of flavoring. My favorites are their regular coffee, Cherry RedBull, ad the Mocha iced drink. Call me the anti-thesis of a true New Englander (which I am, I swear!), but I cannot stand Dunkin' Donuts coffee. I can make burnt coffee at home, thanks. And my mother has a Keurig, but she always buys ultra-weak coffee. So, I always wake up in the morning and head to Aroma Joe's to get my morning fix. The people are super-friendly (as most New Englanders are--bias acknowledged), and all the coffees and espresso drinks are great. I've have 5 or 6 different drinks from there, and they are fantastic. I'm partial to the peppermint pattie--not sure of the exact name. But even their brewed coffees are nice. Two bonus features: 1) This particular location is in an old bank. If you are looking to sit around and drink in the store, you can sit in the bank's old vault. I believe that it was formerly the Sanford Institute for Savings. 2) If you're in the drive-thru lanes with a dog in the car, they'll offer you a treat for the pooch. Obviously this has nothing to do with the product of the shop, but it's a great touch, and our dog loves treats (like every other dog, I suppose). The only stars are for the nice girl inside. She tried to remedy the milkshake i got from the drive thru. And by milkshake, I mean dark iced coffee. She dumped out 25% of it and put some coffee in it but it was still vile. I had to go to Cumberland Farms and fix the disaster. So, I could not tell you what the coffee tasted like, I do not know. This one is in an old bank. So it is inviting and looks like a place you might hang out get some work done. I had the worst breakfast sandwich this morning at your Sanford facility. It was a ham egg and cheese on a croissant and to warm it they microwaved it. When I opened it up out of it's package, it was this soggy, floppy thing. When I bit into it, it was chewy, it had been microwaved for so long. These breakfast sandwiches should not be microwaved and should have a better quality cheese--pretty sure this was made with American 'cheese' and a better quality meat if AJ's is going to charge 3.25 for this. Worst breakfast sandwich I've ever had. And also, the styrofoam cup just speaks for Aroma Joe's quality. I would support AJ's if the food was better quality and it was environmentally conscious. If AJ's was more sustainable and environmentally friendly, it would have better quality food and a higher quality brand. I would rather eat at Dunkin Donuts. read more
