We've tried a few spots in here, but it was my first time in Aroma. Cakes are gorgeous, pastries are plentiful and my cafe con leche was a nice latte. Employees speak mainly Spanish and the menu is nearly exclusively in Spanish, too. Napkins were hard to come by, but the atmosphere is lovely and there's plenty of space for a relaxed conversation over coffee on a Saturday morning. Randomly found this bakery as I was trying to find some empanadas in the area! Found this place but very few of these people spoke good English. I tried to ask what kind of empanadas they had and she just said beef. So then I was questioning then she told me there's chicken. So I was confused. At the end I ordered two chicken and two beef empanadas. Well I thought it was empanadas - the chicken ones were totally something else? Different shape, rounded and a little bigger with ONLY chicken stuffing. No potatoes. Which is what empanadas consist of! The chicken ones were ok.... the chicken is extremely dry. The beef ones were 7/10 good. Not enough filling though but whatever was in there was good. Ok so yelp offers 1 free empanada when you check into this location, I tried to use it and the cashier girl looked so lost and just blank stared at me with an idk look. Then she looks over to the next girl and THAT girl also does the same thing as if they can't take the coupon? Like if none of y'all understood English, why not get a English speaking person to begin with instead of trying to deny my offer? Also don't know why you guys would put this offer on yelp if no one can honor it? Anyways, so third person comes around and it's a younger looking male, he clearly spoke English. As a Colombian that recently moved here from Florida, I've been missing some authentic Colombian cuisine. This place has everything I could ask for from classic Colombian dishes to take home goods. I ordered the arepa paisa and it was delicious. Also bought some of the frozen buñuelos and pandebonos, super good and really easy to heat up at home. Came back the next day and ordered two bandeja paisas, also really good. Sit down service can be a bit slow but take out is quick. You can order online or on a kiosk and avoid the line. The restaurant is exactly what you should expect, located in a strip mall with a bunch of other latin businesses. You can tell it's authentic because everyone there is Hispanic but everyone is welcomed. read more

This little slice of heaven is delicious! Fresh, yummy and very affordable! I'm Colombian and when I say they are on point , you can bet the bank on it! The DMV is very limited on Colombian food. Most places are Salvadorian or Mexican. They have good food, but I wanted real Colombian food and this little place did not disappoint! Family owned and run , you will make it a favorite must return to after your first visit! I love the bandeja Piasa ( feeds 2 hungry folks), sancocho (soup that feeds like 2) , buñuelos, empanadas, and the desserts! Everyone raves about the food and as such you will get a line on the weekends. That should tell you how good it is! The food is good. Arroz con pollo was a little greasy but the pan de bono and empanadas were good. Jugo de Maracuya also good. Hot dog was a little over cooked, but the chicharron was perfect. The service was quick as far as them offering assistance, food took maybe 30 mins and it was very busy. Line was at the door. I don't know if it's a normal occurrence but there was a lot of smoke in the air inside restaurant I guess from the kitchen. Looked a little foggy but I felt it more so in my eyes. I'd come here again if I'm in the area but not so sure if I'd drive 35 minutes again. I'd give it 3.5 stars but that's not an option on the app. And yes I'm a Colombian so I know about my people's food. LOL read more

Absolutely delish! Came here during the winter on a random weekend and the place was packed. Visited again the other week and it wasn't very busy but still a good amount of people for sit down and take out. We tried to order pupusas, which were listed on the menu and something we ordered last time, but they told us they didn't have them. Also, my boyfriend commented that the amount of food had decreased from the last time we were here, as in, there was a lot more on the plate than what was served. The line might look long, but it was pretty quickly. For all these reasons I would give it more stars, however, there have been a few times where I've ordered the. Calentado end it wasn't. We had a friend recommend the place to us recently because weve tried many of the colombian places in Maryland within a reasonable distance to us and my wife loves Colombian restaurants. We started with an empanada. Which actually was amazing. Set a high standard but it became apparent that the wait for food was going to be an issue. The sitting area is limited. In essence you have to scope out who might be leaving, stand close and sit as soon as they get up. Before the table is cleaned. Even the ordering process feels rushed because they seem to stay busy. We then got Bandeja Paisa and Ajiaco (soup) and frankly were solid. Taste home made, which is actually a plus. However, nothing specifically memorable. Frankly, I wish it was more of a restuarant setting. The setting, wait and overall experience distracts from the food. If you need more food or another drink, even water, you have to wait in line. Service is friendly, the place is clean and the portions are solid. The food was a three out of five. Got the bandeja paisa and the bistec a caballo. The beans needed more seasoning as did the steak and the chicharrones must have been sitting out all day because they were dry and chewy. The arepa that came out was underwhelming. The rice on the other hand was perfectly cooked and seasoned and was delicious. The tomato sauce on the bistec was also well seasoned and the perfect accompaniment. La bandeja paisa comes with carne asada which you cannot even chew because is so hard The fish is just bone fish.!! El sancocho is just ok. Some good things about Aroma are the pandebonos, empanadas and buñuelos. The bakery in general is worth the trip. It's a cafe so you have to make line to order at the register, the place is small and it was crowded I had questions about certain items and the lady was not happy about it, long face and short answers. She really upset me when she rudely asked " so do you want it or not?" In Spanish. I'm half Colombian and half Panamanian and I know certain foods vary depending who makes it so I didn't want to cause a scene so I let it go. We had to take a table that still had leftovers from a previous customer and had to ask one of the 4 ladies standing behind the counter to help. They surely have to improve their service part. Needless to say the food was excellent, husband had a bandeja paisa and it was delish and plenty. I had ajiaco (chicken and potato soup) it was very tasty and it came with white rice and fried sweet plantains. The kids shared a picada which is mixture of fried green plantain, cassava or yuca, little potatoes, sausage, chicharrón (pork) and morcilla (blood sausage) it was huge and so delicious that I will put up with the rude attendant anytime!!
