One of my favourite stores in Dublin. Ever since the revamp I would easily say it's the Northside's answer to Brown Thomas. Their merchandising is always gorgeous, the staff are so friendly and helpful and they have such a great variety of brands. Make a trip here during the Christmas period, the decorations are just beautiful. Really impressed with the quality of service and diversity of brands and products available.

This is my favourite new store at the moment...it's just so cool! It's basically been set up to steal some of BT2's customers, which frankly, I think is great. It's about time they had some competition!!! They stock ladies and menswear - mostly for the 18-35 groups and they have labels like Lipsy, Junk Food, Fornarina, Miss Sixty, Converse, Energie and Amlified. I love the clothes - they're young, funky and very trendy. You can have your nails pampered, get some personal shopping help, have your lingerie fitted correctly and they even have an alterations service. They've thought of everything!

Large department store that has a little bit of everything... I don't go here regularly as it's not that close to where I live but every time I do come, they have new additions to the place, whether it's another instore cafe, magnum ice cream bar, etc. They have a great homeware section which during the sales, you can pick up mega bargains! Their shoe section is quite a delight... Spacious and well laid out, it's awesome just wondering around and easily able to find your label/designer you want. Their make up / cosmetics section is also very impressive, my visits here are for Smashbox which they are the only stockist in the city centre... Always find the staff very friendly and helpful.

It's a large department store in Dublin that has been around for ages if I am not wrong. It's big with lots of selection for everything from cosmetics to fashion and so on. I have been here many times to shop and their prices are quite reasonable. This is more the the mid priced department store in Dublin with a decent selection. There are regular sales here and it's not a bad place to shop.

Ya know, you really can get anything you want in this shop, i suppose it is a department store after all! Its been around since 1843 and is the largest department store in Ireland, something to be proud of eh? one of the great stories of the shop has to do with the 1916 rising which set its scene mainly just around the corner in the GPO. Arnotts proudly claim that Pádraig Pearse, President of the Irish Republic made a brief stop at Arnotts to close his account before joining his comrades in the GPO. Not many businesses in Dublin have a story such as that do they? Anyway, moving into the present day Arnotts is still booming with everyting from fashion to homewear to sports gear to makeup. generations of irish families have been shopping here for years and to be honest i cannot see it stopping anytime soon

    Great displays!

Arnotts, how I love you! Last week a friend and I spent a good hour and a half wandering around the store, checking out all the fantastic displays (there are some really impressive ones) and lusting after kitsch accessories and cool items of clothing. We made a real event of it - trying on all the zany glasses and taking photos of us striking idiotic poses for my mate to send back home to her sweetheart (ah how cute!) Naturally the sales assistants LOVED having us in store, but to their credit, they were really really polite and helpful, and didn't even kick us out even though the store was closing (oops, sorry guys, we had no idea!) My friend and I were very impressed with the wide range of cool that we managed to find in store. We bought matching colourful belts with buttons on them that look like the pins from the 80s 'Mastermind' board game (does anyone remember that?) and my friend actually bought a pair of the crazy sunnies because, crazy or not, they suited her. So my advice is to head to Arnotts with a friend or two and enjoy a bit of nutso browsing. This is one of those places that is much more fun when you're shopping with other people. A word of warning to the skint: DON'T even THINK about going in. If you do, you will surely find something that you really really want to buy and you know you can't afford it. Wait until your next pay cheque and make a day of it!

The new Arnotts in the Jervis Centre has been putting on live gigs in the basement of the store for the whole month of August. This new initiative is part of their project Festival Fever 09. I saw this band called Soundproof play today and they were quite entertaining. They did some covers, the most notable being Your Sex is on Fire by The Kings of Leon which is the hottest band of the summer. There weren't that many people watching, maybe 20 in all but people were taking pictures and the live music definitely made the shopping more fun. I noticed that the department store was also giving free henna tattoos and tarot readings. There are two more gigs, one this coming Thursday and another next Saturday. If you fancy seeing something different then come to Arnotts on those dates.

In my opinion, Arnotts Project is fantastic. Arnotts, following Brown Thomas' lead, opened this sister store aimed at young fashionistas who have cash to burn. They stock some of the most fun, young, pretty and unique clothes in the city from the likes of Lipsy, French Connection, Diesel, Pepe, BCBG, Ted Baker, Max C and more. Their accessories section is very nice. The purses are especially fabulous, most around 50-150 euros. Their make up section is also fantastic, selling the likes of Urban Decay and Benefit, two of my very favorite brands. It's pricey, but not quite as bad as BT2. It could be feasible for me to buy something from Arnott's Project, whereas BT2 is pretty prohibitive.

I really like Arnotts. For a department store, the staff are very personable and friendly, unlike other department stores...

We never go to Dublin without a visit to Arnotts. It has to have the widest selection stock of all Dublin's department stores.

Just a little off the beaten path along Seafort Avenue, this is the secret shop D4 dandies go to for the best of Fashion Weeks past, as previously worn by Social and Personal types. Step into the back for a look at filmier gowns and frocks, but steel thyself for the prices -there's no bargain basement prices (but you will get that Chanel blouse at half it's original sale price). My first introduction to Second Avenue was on a cold spring day a few years back; as we rounded a corner on a closed up shop I wondered if we'd gone too far. A moment later the shop front appeared, blocked in by rows of Land Rovers parked right in front of the shop window. Inside there was quiet as women fanned through beautiful silks and suits hung along the wall racks. At the centre table I fell in love with a black croc clutch that I would end up going back twice to mull over bringing home. The price tag ended the would-be romance.

Second Avenue is where all the D4 ladies go second hand shopping. But this boutique is a far cry…read morefrom Oxfam or SVP. It is definitely not a mothball charity shop. On offer here you can find Gucci suits, Prada handbags, Alexander McQueen jackets and John Rocha scarves, all at a fraction of the original price (though unfortunately still out of my budget!). The clothes range from vintage to last season, and most pieces would be suited for the more mature lady.

Admittedly, it takes a bit of rummaging to find something of real interest in Leia, but the selection of party dresses is alright. These are the kind of dresses you might wear for a fun night out with the girls, or possibly to a fancy-dress party; frivolous, colorful bits of synthetic materials that frequently have sequins and ruffles attached. Nothing high fashion on the least. But cheap as hell! Leia Clothing also sells really high, plasticky fake-leather heels. We're talking seriously, hooker-shoe high. I wouldn't recommend leaving the house wearing both a dress and a pair of shoes from Leia Clothing, because you will probably look pretty ridiculous.

I discovered this gem in 2005 and have found quite a few bargains that I still have. The garments fit well, wash well and are pretty funky! The shoes are good as well, I had a work BBQ to go to and had nothing to wear, so I popped along to Leia and got a dress and a pair of "plasticky fake hooker heels" (the exact same pair in River Island for a third of the price) and got complimented all night about my ensemble! The staff are so helpful, and not afraid to tell you what suits you and what would go nicely with that top/skirt/dress, as with the BBQ, I tried on a really unflattering dress, to which the senior sales girl (Stacy, Shes the best!!) told me that it made me look bigger then I am, (scarlet!!) and helped me choose something that was more me, and I felt great all night!! I highly recommend it if your in a jam, need something to wear quick and are looking for girly, fun outfits that you can wear again and again...till it goes out of fashion, the one downfall of the clothes is that they're very in the moment. All in all a very good place to shop!!

I'm seriously shocked this place hasn't been reviewed already! I went here this weekend with a…read morefriend who has started the epic task of finding her wedding dress. Dirty Fabulous has been mentioned a few times as a place to find good vintage clothing, particularly dresses. It's upstarts in one of the georgian buildings on Baggot street, so it's a bit off the beaten track, and I suspect you have to have an appointment - well for wedding dresses you certainly do. We were taken into a room with beautiful things that girls love, but what surprised me was the range of dresses was quite small. The nature of vintage being what it is means that you do have to be lucky to be in the room at the same time as the dress you want. However I found the staff great, they do realise the nature of the search and offer to keep your details and to let you know if anything that you would like does come in. And the dresses are beautiful. You can see these really beautiful different styles from various decades - 50s, 20s, 60s etc. There's also beautiful vintage jewelry and accessories. So if you're a vintage style lover this is definitely a place for you. I do have to say that the staff here really stood out. We had a few appointments that same day and no-one gave us advice anything like the lady in Dirty Fabulous. I think my friend was very tired of mediocre dresses at this point, and she picked her up by telling her not to mind any nonsense people tell her in shops about deadlines. She gave her great advice about trying things on even if they were in the wrong colour or shape to get a better idea of what works and what doesn't. She gave us cards of other shops which might stock dresses that she might also like. She organised us bridesmaids, who were flailing about uselessly, by designating a note-taker and talking about mailing lists. And all of it was done in a gentle, understanding way which made us all warm to her, and agree we would certainly recommend the place. She said to us as we were leaving "always remember to eat between every appointment and have a glass of wine with lunch".... after a footsore day with a disappointed bride-to-be the importance of this advice really stands out in my mind!

I had clearly stated when I booked that I was looking for wedding accessories and jewellery, but as soon as she established I already had my dress she seemed annoyed I was there. I'd be wary of going back again.

Alas, no, I was not always this cool. If you could only have seen me circa 2000/2001, when I used to go around in my Slipknot hoodie, no doubt listening to a Korn CD on my new-fangled discman. O, halcyon days. My relationship with thrash metal did not last terribly long (I just couldn't relate to all of the angst, for then as I now I was possessed of a sunny dispostion), but for the duration of that particular affectation, you could be sure to find me most Saturdays in Asha in Stephen's Green Shopping Centre. Asha is the only shop in Dublin dedicated exclusively to moper nonsense (and I'm not forgetting about St George's St arcade; that is for when the goths graduate to emo-dom). Asha is full of t-shirts, posters, stickers, badges, bracelets and teenagers going through their 'awkward' phase, essentially everything that you need to be cock-of-the-walk when you're hanging around outside the Central Bank, giving out about how awful your parents are because they won't let you get a Jim Morrison tattoo. Going into Asha was always an insructive experience, because apart from selling goth accessories, they also sell cannabis paraphernalia. And pot, beloved not only of mopers, is also enjoyed by scobes, so Asha is the only place in Dublin where these two disparate cultures are likely to interact on a regular basis. Go to Asha one day, sidle up to one of the stripy-jumper-sovereign ring-kids and tell him "I just heard that hippy over there slagging Bob Marley". Oh, what fun.
