Very good pastries, visiting area, I wish we could get these pastries at home! The eclairs very good and the coconut pineapple pie/tart so good. I think we are going to have to go tomorrow! I haven't tried the macaroons yet.

You don't expect to find fine French pastries, tarts and gateaux being sold at the corner lot, but that's exactly what you get with Arno's Pastry at Gilbert's Corner every Saturday and Sunday. I've been to France and these are the real deal. Authentic French pastries. Created by an actual Frenchman. Turns out Arno used to make these wonderful pastries for the White House. Now he's making the same amazing pastries for the rest of us. Not only does he sell pastries, he will also take special orders for cakes and cater parties. I'm pretty sure I know where my next birthday cake is coming from! Do your tastebuds a favor and give Arnos a try. You won't be sorry!

9/15 UPDATE 2. Just picked up my order from Arnaud at Arno's Pastry. Arnaud rocks!! He explained what happened and all well! Place your order today. He runs this business as a one man team and his desserts are the best! Thanks for your amazing customer service and kindness, Arnaud! Changed my review to 5/5. The only thing better than a small business with great product, is a small business with a great product and excellent owner with great customer service! 9/15 UPDATE! next day, I got an email back and he offered to allow me to pick it up at his residence. Very pleased! Increased my rating. Will update after I pick up my dessert 9/14. I love Arno's Pastry but i guess they aren't reliable... that's what I discovered today. I scheduled an order for pick up today 9/14. I said I'd be there at 6:00 PM, knowing they sell fast. He said he would be at the Reston Market with my order. I show up at 5:55 PM and walk to where the booth normally is. Hes not there so I walk around the whole market - the booth is nowhere to be found. I asked the market employee where they are. He said they left early because they sold out and they aren't even supposed to early. How could they leave if they had my order that I placed 2 weeks ago? I wasnt late, so they couldnt have sold my order because I didnt show up... right? Maybe i did something wrong here but im just disapppinted because this was my "cake" for my birthday tomorrow. I know... first world problems... I'm just disappointed and very hurt because I frequent this business at both the Aldie and Reston markets. The one time I placed an order, the business couldnt pull through I wish Arno nothing but success in his business and I hope to continue supporting him because mistakes do happen. I just felt like I should share my experience here.

Do you like Cookies, Cakes and Rolls? Maybe cinnamon rolls? Challah bread? Anything that involves…read morebaking and carbs? Then run, Don't walk. Ok, maybe walk, because if you're like me and exist on a diet of chocolate chip cookies from Alana, there isn't much running involved. But that's not the point. The point is there is a new player in town in the home-based bakery division. Curly's Café. Producer of some of the finest baked things this side of the Mississippi. What's that? You're gluten intolerant? You can't have sugar? You're a vegan and can't have butter and milk? Just like that friend in a MLM trying to recruit you to sell tire polish, I've got an answer for every reason you can't buy here. She did the ole "Folgers Switch" (Are any of you old enough to remember these commercials from the early 80's where snooty restaurants served folgers coffee to their patrons and then edited it to make it look like they enjoyed that crap) on me and gave me some gluten free cookies instead of my usual 900 calorie per bite cookies, and I couldn't tell the difference. Zero. They tasted like real cookies. They were so good, I gave one to the spirit of John Wayne, who immediately stopped berating me for eating anything other than traditional 1950's baked in butter and lard cuisine, and converted to the first church of gluten intolerance. And if you know the Duke, he doesn't just endorse any old product that's willing to pay for his chemo. Nope, he personally tests the cigarettes and whisky he'll appear with, so getting him to say that her allergy friendly cookies are the fat schniznits (John wayne was a rapper in the early 90's), is a huge, huge endorsement for Curly's Café. But don't worry, not all her cookies and cakes are vegan and gluten friendly. If you're like the other 80% of America and are looking forward to treating your body like a roman temple being sacked by the vandals and visigoths (Interesting note, many of the Germanic tribes that wiped out Rome occasionally, had names that we now associate with ruining or looting society) Alana is fully willing to give you both barrels full of carbs, wheat, and butter, and then reload. These things are packed so dense with flavor that they actually bend time and space around them. You can actually see the event horizon around your box of cookies That's why she can only make them 12 at a time. Any more, and they'd achieve critical mass and collapse into themselves and create a singularity that would result in your own star floating around in your kitchen. So stick with 12 and leave the nuclear fusion to the engineers at MIT.

We love talking to him every time my bf and I want to get a sweet treat! What makes Rice Culture a lot better than other taiyaki places is their ability to make them fresh and hot and their incorporation of different and new flavors. I appreciate that they do try to update their menu based on customer feedback. Their ube custard taiyaki are ube sweet, carb-y ingots. They are best freshly made though it takes about 15-20 minutes to make (good things are worth the wait). Solid location to get a sweet treat after a Costco trip or lunch.

If you're craving dessert later in the evening, this is a great option since they're open later than many other dessert shops. A few highlights from my visit: Delicious desserts with plenty of creative flavor combinations. I ordered the Ube Matcha Cereal Milk with a taiyaki add-on, and it was fantastic. Unlimited toppings make it a great value and allow you to customize your dessert exactly how you want it. The kiddie size was surprisingly generous and could have easily been shared between two people. Plenty of indoor seating and ample parking available. Self-service ordering kiosks help keep things moving and make the ordering process simple. Free board games available while you wait, which adds a fun touch to the experience. When I visited on a Sunday evening, the shop was fairly busy and only had one employee working. Despite that, things moved along reasonably well thanks to the kiosk ordering system. Overall, Rice Culture is a great place to satisfy a sweet tooth after dinner. Between the unique flavors, generous portions, unlimited toppings, and comfortable atmosphere, it's easy to see why it's popular. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area and craving dessert.
