This Ace Hardware is our go to for parts and materials for repairing our cabin in Bear Valley. Service is always excellent and knowledgeable. The store is well stocked and is mostly what a local hardware store should have to fulfill its customers needs. That said, I wish they would reduce the amount of home goods and gifts and increase the supply of parts and equipment. I guess it's slim pickings on hiring good people​ at Arnold Ace. My hubby asked the two-toned haired cashier at the front if anyone was available to cut some water hose and the young guy told him to go back and wait. 20 minutes outside the building waiting and hubby saw the same guy walking around the store, giving him a smirk. So hubby walks to the front and said to Smirky Guy, " Hey, no one came back to help me." Smirky Guy says, We'll there's no one in the store available who knows anything about cutting hose." with his trademark snidley Smirk. Hubby said, well why'd ya bother sending me back there, if no one was available? Smirky guy doing the only thing he knows how to do Smirk and snidely say, " Hubby told him he was rude. I just gave a shop a one star review and wanted to give a good review to a deserving store. Arnold Ace Hardware is awesome!!!!! They are dog friendly which is a huge plus to me. Besides their love of dogs, the store is well-stocked with everything you need. On my last trip I needed a light bulb. My husband buys the dimmest bulbs possible. A light bulb needs to illuminate not keep you nearly in the dark. Ace had the best selection and I so happy with my 150 watter! There is also a cute little toy section to make the little ones happy. Arnold is largely a community of 2nd and Vacation Homes. Murphys and Wineries are down the Hill and Bear Valley is farther up closer to Ebbetts pass. Such homes need to be maintained, and the Arnold Ace Home Center is ground zero for repair needs and the contractors of do-it-yourself folks who perform the work. Arnold Ace Home Center is of modest size and during my walk throughs of the place, seems to have everything needed to do the job. Folks working here were really friendly and very helpful with the few questions that I posed. It was also great fun just to walk around, listen to various conversations, and enjoy the view. read more

I was really disappointed that they didn't honor a Black Friday weekend promotion after I did exactly what their sales girl said when they didn't have the item in stock. I ordered it online and then realized I didn't get the sales price that we talked about in the store. Rather than just take care of it, the same girl argued with me that I was wrong and I would have to come back because there wasn't anyone there to handle the issue. It wasn't worth the aggravation so I just signed for it as she uttered a snarky "have a great day!" We spend thousands of dollars a year on equipment and supplies for our property. I guess I will just have to take my business down to Angels..... Super disappointed because many other friends will no longer shop there either for a variety of other reasons. read more

We have shopped in the Arnold Ace Hardware since 2016. Always find the folks to be helpful and interested in our satisfaction. Power tools, garden plants, fans, miscellaneous small items, and paint. Recently, we received assistance in the paint department and the woman who helped us could not have been more helpful and really knew her products. So nice to have the location of the store too. My son refers to this store as Big Ted's for the large stuffed bear that is prominently featured at the entrance. Miss Barbara and everyone here are always happy to help guide me and their prices are fair. The free popcorn is just a bonus! I do think the garden center could be beefed up a bit, and it bothers me that it isn't cleaned out after the autumn and dead plants are left sitting there all winter. Prices are a little higher because you're ON A MOUNTAIN AND THERE"S NOT A WALMART EVERY 10 FEET. That being said, you can go to this Ace and find almost everything you need to improve your home. Plus they have popcorn. Also, the best, dry-est firewood that you can find in Arnold. It seriously lights with almost no effort. If you want to be insulted and get rude service this is your place. I walked in and a customer was on the phone with her husband. What he was looking for was pressure washer pump lube/saver: http://www.lowes.com/pd/Briggs-Stratton-4-fl-oz-Pump-Saver/3241112 What they were trying to sell her was 30W engine oil. Since I have the product in the past, I looked it up on the phone and asked the attendant if they had any. Since they did not, and the husband was not interested in 30W engine oil going in his high pressure pump, the wife left. Smart move on not wanting to put thick engine oil in a high pressure water pump. I picked up the items I was going to buy and was looking for an item when I overheard the attendant calling me an idiot because I was trying to help a customer find the right item. The other attendant that recommended putting engine oil in a high pressure pump was in agreement. I put my items back and told the attendants why I will never be buying items from them again. read more

Just as Big Trees Market is the place to get your food provisions in the area, I have found that Ace Hardware just off Highway 4 between Chevron and the Post Office is where you go to get household supplies, tools, snow shovels, etc. Staff is helpful and walk you to the items you are looking for. I have been coming to Ace Hardware since it started and Arnold for over 40 years. We bought a house here some time ago. It is Saturday the 21st amidst the Coronavirus shelter order. We came up here before and we decided to stay up last week. I was shopping for a new chainsaw because mine just broke. My wife found one at Lowe's that was a good deal. I told her "no, I want to support local business". We bought nothing in Sonora other than drinks. Came back to Arnold to buy our large items. We went into Ace and the minute we walked in we were treated like we didn't belong and it was clear that we seemed to be an annoyance to who we first encountered. I decided that I wasn't buying a chainsaw. Then when we went to pay the same gentleman then was asking my wife about where we live, do we have an address or just a PO Box. Which as you well no is a ridiculous question. It was clear that we were "Out of towners" and we were treated as such. I pulled the gentleman aside and informed him of what we came for and let him know that because of the way we were treated we would never spend any money there again. I understand these are scary times but what makes this area and our country great is how we treat one another. Remember that this time will end, but the people you treat like shit may end their desire to continue to support an area that doesn't want them. read more

Does an ACE get any better than this? I think not! It fully lives up to the small-town, mom & pop shop feel that ACE likes to say they have in spades. From the docile and gentle dogs (owned presumably by the proprietor) who greet you at the door to the huge selection of hardware/paints/plumbing, the fantastic holiday decoration collection, and a home goods area that is filled with fun little cabin and woods-inspired decor, you can spend a long time in here just checking it all out. I use this store often, and considering their location- there is an awesome selection 5-STARS! The reason I ding them to a 3, is that I feel that they are unwilling to return purchases. Biggest expense was when I asked for their best deck sealant. The associate assured me that what he gave me was equivalent to the Home Depot brand I ran out of - IT WAS NOT (it was like applying watered down paint!). I immediately returned the item, and was told by the young blonde girl at the counter - we do t return paint. And even if we did, it has color. All sales are final.... She just couldn't understand I was returning based on quality, not color. Btw: the so-called equivalent sealant didn't even last through the winter! read more

This ACE Hardware seems well stocked of tools and other indoor supplies as we walked around. However, I wasn't looking for any tools but rather a plant. When I walked into the plant section, they were all dead from the cold. I didn't see any indoor plants. I realize it was snowing and the temperature has dropped, but I figured they would still have some indoor plants left. Not the case. They did have freshly made popcorn that you can scoop and get a little bagful. There were plenty of employees but nobody asked to help us or acknowledge us. I did like how they have a sign out front with the current and weeklong weather report. That's a nice local touch. Maybe next time, they'll have some living plants. read more

Probably the most helpful staff to work in a hardware store! We came here since we were camping at Calveres Big Trees just up the road desperate for some camping supplies. We were able to purchase fire wood, kindling, hand warmers, cups, etc. and about 3 or 4 people ended up helping me as I wandered around to point me in the right direction (I must have looked lost). The wood was much better here than the stuff we bought at the campsite, so next time we would go here instead. Great store, reasonable price, and great service. read more

Customer on 5/27/10: I was already unhappy when I showed up to this place, because I had to drive 3 hours, from the Bay Area, to do ultra minor repair work on or trailer's campsite or face the prospect of a $200 dollar fine. The person that was supposed to inspect the site and tell me what needed to be fixed, showed up after the work was done, so I had to just guess. Oh, and it was pouring rain/ sleet. Not ideal working conditions. I was able to get some good advice from the service man out in the yard. He was dressed like a cowboy from the outback of Australia, but was pleasantly helpful. He set me up with the 3 cuts of 2x8 that I needed and dropped in some scrap 2x4 for free! WOOHOO!! When I checked out I didn't pay attention to the price since my temper was still boiling inside and it was still raining hard outside. Review of my receipt showed a single 8ft 2x8 redwood was $26.99, plus cuts ($0.50 ea) and tax ($2 something). I liked the service and their efficiency (that may be a different case on a dry day). Also glad they have signs to the lot up on many trees as you drive back since its almost 0.5 miles off HWY 4. This place may be a little pricey, but that tends to come with the fact that it is 72 miles into the Sierras from Stockton. read more

We often find ourselves tootling down to Ace Hardware for hefty tarps, bee attractant, your typical cabin repair supplies, tools and much more. The owner is always friendly! The employees here are helpful and knowledgeable, They are willing to special order out of stock or unique items that cater to mountain living needs. Ace in Arnold is wonderful for that reason, The carry things that you wouldn't typically find in a crowded city hardware store - like bear mace! It's mountain convenience at best.
