I went yesterday to get my first train set for my N scale club and was hesitant. I have always felt like model railroad stores had no patients to novices like me. Not at Arnie's. I wish I had gotten his name; he was young 20's or 30's wearing shorts and had I guess his son in the store with him who kept pestering him...anyway he was fantastic. I had wanted a freight locomotive with full sound and remote control. He went over costs with me and also showed me a nice Kato Amtrak bookshelf set. He compared the prices of passenger vs freight, went over recommended manufactures, ensured I was happy with my purchase and made sure the two units were synced for tandem running. He knew the layout of my club and told me I would need two locomotives to pull a nice load with our grades. I ended up getting the passenger set of cars. Ironically, with his explanations, this was the cheaper of the options. Really? Retail isn't about trying to get the most out of the customer? They want to ensure you are comfortable with your purchase as this is a big investment. When I got home I researched what I bought. Everything was a bit higher than the suggested retail price but hands down I will purchase from Arnie's again. This place has N, HO, and I think a little Z scale. They also own the place next door for O and G scale. SHOP SMALL SHOPS!

"Come with me And you'll be In a world of Pure imagination. Take a look And you'll see Into your imagination..." "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" Looking into my grandson's eyes, this song came to mind. Model trains are as good as chocolate in his eyes. You see, 3 year old Drew announced that he and Grandpa were going to the hobby shop to see the trains on their special, monthly, Saturday bonding day. Not sure exactly where this particular pronouncement came from, but a fast Yelp look up, and thank goodness for Arnie's. What we didn't know was, Arnie's and another train store, Milepost 38 Toy Trains, were right next to each other. Model train overload? I think not when it comes to a model train fanatic. We went to both. Natch! Arnie's is mostly for adult, die hard, serious modelers. The big boys. But if nothing else, come to see the landscaped model train set up, fun for young and old to watch in action. Once you have seen it run around the track a few times, complete with village, hills, tunnels, bridges, and cute little action figures, you become aware of the scope of fun accessories on the shelves and walls for sale. Not a cheap hobby, but it sure stimulates the imagination.

Had a great visit here with my 2 sons. The 2 gentlemen on the Large scale side were really helpful in suggesting trains for when my toddlers get older. An older gentleman employee and Brad were awesome in running the trains so we could see the smoke effect. Great experience for children of any age.

Engine locomotive from the movie "Polar Express". Has characters and Santa.

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to learn tufting for the first time!! For those new to tufting,…read moretufting is essentially a texture manufacturing process where you insert yarn into a base fabric to create rugs. The lesson first starts off with choosing a simple base design. Our instructor specifically recommended a design with simple lines and colors to make it easier for our first ever rug, which was around $70. Using a projector, you will trace your image onto the fabric as a template for the rest for your work. Before starting with tufting, we then moved onto a mini tutorial on the ins and outs of using a tufting gun, from yarn insertion to how to create straight versus curved lines. Keep in mind you have to put a lot of pressure on the canvas to ensure that your yarn is being threaded correctly. Going through several practice sessions definitely made the transition to the entire tufting process easier. Starting our rug, we soon recognized how difficult and time consuming the rug tufting process was. Even simple design like ours (a cartoon dog) was a long lengthy process than anticipated and we ended up spending 3-4 hours for completion for one of the smaller size rugs. We were recommended to start from the inside out and using one color at a time, inserting lines of yearn about a fingers width to ensure completion of our rug. Though we initially struggled with creating finer lines, we eventually got the hang of it and were able to successfully complete our rug. Our instructor transitioned us into the final process, teaching us how to trim our rug and prepare it to take home. Personally based on the instructor teaching and supplies available, this class was well worth its price point. Overall, I would say tufting is an impressive skill that I learned for the first time and hope to come again to create more designs!

I was skeptical and Korean sets weren't that popular at the time so I only strolled around the store for a bit, looking smiskis and Vocaloid chibi figures and then went home, ended the trip I decided to go back to Oppa's the second time for the cards of course after getting stuffed with more food from the night market. Me and my boyfriend went to Oppa's yesterday around 8:45pm, the place filled pretty much plushies and Kpop items, Pokémon cards are opposite to the cashier. We decided to get a pack of Destined Rivals/Glory of Team Rocket for only $2.99 + tax (around $3 something) which is ok since you know the shipping costs as well as they do need some profits on selling stuff as a retail store too. We did a rip test and confirmed that they're real cards btw (purple/blue hue inside, you can find more information from this video https://youtu.be/13UoFipIF4c?si=wEwvg8D0-YPcwo6T) After that we went for 2 more packs before ending our trip, another Destined Rivals/Glory of Team Rocket and Heat Wave/Hot Air Arena, didn't get any big hits but it was fun after all :) The cashiers were a Korean couple (I think?) and they were very nice to us! I found it funny when the second time we went to get our 2 last packs and the lady looked a bit concerned (and she asked if we were here for packs again, funny ngl because we both financially irresponsible lol) Update on the sets they were having on are: Vstar Universe Scarlet and Violet ex Clay Burst Snow Hazard 151 Raging Surf Ancient Roar Future Slash Shiny Treasure Stella Miracle Paradise Dragona Battle Partners Heat Wave Glory of Team Rocket Vstar Universe w/10 cards for $10.99, 151 w/7 cards for $5.99 and the rest are $2.99 not including taxes yet. Remember to bring cash with you because they have to charge 50 cents more if you're paying with debit/credit card (transactions fee) Overall, great experience! Definitely would go back for more if I have time. Hopefully they sell sealed booster boxes too :)

I hope they're able to get the help that they need to help support their community, but I still stand by the frustration experienced when attempting to reach out multiple times.* I've spent a good amount of time calling this store trying to get ahold of a worker for clarification on a tournament they are holding. The phone doesn't even fully ring before you get sent to voicemail so I want to assume they're declining the call, but hopefully I'm wrong. Called since their opening and between the hours and still no luck talking to someone. They don't respond to their socials either. This feels very unwelcoming to new folks trying to stop by and support their shop. Unfortunately I cant comment on anything else from this shop as this was enough to deter me and my friends from wanting to visit, but it's great to hear from their community about their situation which clearly means their locals are happy playing there.
