They don't have akadama, but I got a nice little Japanese garden juniper to play with and made it into a pretty cascading bonsai. Just getting into practicing bonsai, so please forgive the sloppy wiring. I'll redo these after a little break. My first attempt at doing bonsai and it's a shohin, I suppose. Oh and I repotted it in a slightly larger pot since I was stuffing it into this tiny 4" blue one and the tilt required a rock under one side. 3/30/26 I just knew I was going to receive the best service here. Instantly as I walked up to Audel, this staffer was ready & very accommodating with answers & recommendations. The garden center is immaculately maintained & inventory is plentiful. I was looking to find a professional to recommend a liner for my planter to prevent corrosion, so I may reuse it for the next season for other plantings. Audel suggested a liner that prevents weeds from proliferating as well. It turns out Hubby has a roll in the back of our truck. Bought fertilizer that he recommended & lantana as a draw for pollinators. I googled it & it states I plant it alongside my basil, tomato & marigolds. Parking is dedicated & free. Highly recommend this nursery. Staff are super helpful & cordial. Price-wise, may be equal to home dept or more but the service is topnotch comparably. read more

They have such a nice variety of plants, particularly houseplants, and even some "rarer" ones like the variegated Alocasia Odora and Frydek. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The only dock is that there were a couple of plants I thought about getting like the Philodendron Pink Princess, but they were not in too good of a health, and a couple of other plants had fungus gnats. Ordered $300 worth of plants and was told it would arrive on Thursday morning and they would call me around 10am. I called at 11am and was told I should not have been "promised" a time of arrival. Thank goodness I didn't hire someone to plant them! So why am I paying for items that I might not get or get a season after I order it? I ordered a plant a couple of years ago from this nursery and never got it or a call. When I called they said it hadn't come in and to call back in a few weeks. They only refunded me because I went there and asked for it 2 or 3 months later. So this company takes orders knowing that they may never arrive or arrive months late, yet still make you pay for it in advance. This policy seems very dishonest to me. read more

2 months ago, I had one of those days. I was trying to help my grandfather graft his Bonsai tree from the fires that he's been growing for 50years and we found out it wouldn't survive because of how bad the soil is. The Huntington garden Bonsai master came to help me with it and he said its not worth saving. The amount of emotions I was feeling was just horrible. The one thing that kept my grandfather hopeful was that his plants survived and my goal was to make sure they did. Well it didn't. I had a complete meltdown and the bonsai person chopped our tree and said run to a garden and get this planted asap.... So I decided to go to Armstrong. I have a pile of cuttings in my hand and I literally just said I need help with tears running down my face. Let me tell you... They helped. MEGAN helped me. She was the kindest soul I've ever met. It was close to closing and she knew I needed support during this time and she supported me and was so gentle, patient and made sure I left with my cuttings in 2 pots and planted correctly, and taught me about rooting powder and how to take care of them. LITERALLY gave me a 30 minute course to help me save what was left. Thank you Megan, it was your kindness that helped me get through such devastation. To some it may be small, but to me it really meant the world. The cuttings are still alive and we are patiently waiting for roots to come through so that we can replant when the time comes! Incurable selection! I went for privacy trees but also got some beautiful ground cover and a planter full of herbs. Definitely a bit more expensive than a local Home Depot but the quality of plants is so much higher - I haven't had any issues with my plants! Love Armstrong. It's far from me but I can't help but make the trip once in a while. I even make a mini event out of it because I love the store so much. I love that I can get good information and education from staff members about products and what to use for the plants. I love they offer a professional to come to your house and give you a plan on what types of plants you use for your specific space. It's definitely a goal of mine to get that service. very bad customer service. we ask a guy (Audel) to help us find some indoor plants, and he pointed us to go inside the store and ask someone inside. no one there to help us, and then he showed up and help us load the plant we picked in the cart. We decided to get ceramic pot to put the plant in and he followed us. So while we are picking some pot, he excused himself and told us he is coming back and never showed up again. We asked another person to help us (JJ). This is the third time Ive been to this branch and workers there always preoccupied with what they do and seldom interact with the customers. This is a one and done thing. I've never been to an establishment where everyone that works there is miserable. They OVERWATER the plants and cause root rot/damage. They don't stick to the return policy when clearly the problem is from how they take care of the plants. And have the nerve to argue it's not rot, when clearly it shows rot. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself about plants if you're going to be working at a nursery. I bought a plant YESTERDAY and discovered there's rot and went back TODAY. The excuses she came up with about not being able to return it made me laugh. Oh and don't bother spending cash. You can't issue me my money cause I spent over $50?? They have a huge selection but when asked about details of a few plants, the employee was very condescending and rude about it. They also got the information completely wrong - I looked it up later and they didn't provide us correct information at all. Very unfriendly and I don't feel comfortable asking questions there anymore. If you're a pro plant expert and don't need to ask them anything, then go for it, but otherwise it doesn't feel like a very welcoming store. I feel more comfortable going to smaller independent plant shops where the employees are nicer and more passionate about their love for plants... I don't want to come back here after this experience. I purchased some ladybugs for my garden and most of them were dead and upon reading about them if they are stored too long, they weaken and die and I called and spoke with an associate and she didn't seem very concerned about it just apologized. This late afternoon my 8 year old and I went in to this branch to redeem a gift certificate and get some plants. I, admittedly, am not knowledgeable about plants and asked a salesman if all the plants inside were good for indoors, as we wanted a plant for a room at home. The salesman, (tall, thin, young, wavy brown hair, olive complexion with a tattoo on his back calf - yes I am describing him in detail for a reason), paused and gave me a look like "what a stupid question" and dropped a snarky, "yeah", then walked off. When we went to the register, he "served" us with condescension and acted as if we were bothering him. He rang us up, handed me the receipt, gave me a sour look, said, "there you go" and walked away. Armstrong is supposed to be an elevated experience but all that was elevated were it's prices and the level of disrespect. If it were my branch, I'd fire the salesman with a, "there you go", and a smile. Never again Armstrong. read more

The garden center is always decked out with seasonal plants and decorations. The cashier that cashed us out was knowledgeable about the products we were buying. It's a very pleasant afternoon to just walk around the garden center and check out the latest in season plants, even as we head into winter. The store has a really wonderful variety of plants and garden supplies, including stunning water fountains. The people in the store were super helpful in helping me find other plants I was looking for while I was there. The only drawback was that the cashier wasn't very kind. We've had our ups and downs here. I love the plant quality and knowledge of several employees. This store is really beautifully arranged and has a great selection of exotic and interesting plants, succulents and veggies. I have not had the best time with the manager here, so I will shop at the Monrovia store instead. I wish that things weren't tense with the manager, but things are what they are. They have a phenomenal selection of grivelleas, proteas and leucadendrons, so if you' re looking for drought tolerant, their selection is good. The regional manager( and former store manager) Tom is a great guy and always handles things with grace and a calm demeanor. I'm appreciative of his efforts to diffuse a sticky situation and hope that I'll match better with the nice folks at the other store. read more

Updated since I visited again during December 2024 to get some poinsettia plants. Well... they had a lot and probably 90% were dead or close to dying. I'm not a green thumb but could see these plants were all crammed together and the leaves were not given enough space to bloom properly. Target and Walmart had a better crop than Armstrong, and Armstrong prices were not even competitive. I was so sad watching a really old woman buying the tall poinsettia trees for like $75-$100 and they were in such awful condition. We left empty handed and decided to try ACE in South Pas and not only were they cheaper for all sizes of poinsettias but the plants were thriving. read more

I'm new to the area and excited at the convenient location and wide selection of plants they have, especially the succulents! Now I'm wary of shopping there as often as I'd like. I'd purchased a small Kalanchoe Penwiper, and it was starting to wilt, so I decided to check the root. I was super disappointed to find that there was no root at all, because I was totally sold clippings disguised as a potted plant. While I love a good clipping and buy them often, I am aware when I am buying a clipping and know to propagate. It's definitely not cool to sell clippings in a plant pot that aren't even rooted, they're better off selling them as such and not as something else. I also loved the giant lithops my boyfriend bought me from there, too. I thought 40.00 was a big steep, but he wanted to buy me a gift and bought them anyway. Now I KNOW that 40.00 for those are steep after seeing the same ones for 12.99 at BLVD Nursery. So, they do have a great selection, but I do recommend to shop cautiously, and double check pricing! read more
