Definitely not what I expected from the reviews. Lots of variety but its unkept and cramped....dead plants and old dirty pots. They had an elephant plant for $129.00....I want to support local/small neighborhood businesses, but that's $100 more than Home Depot (same size too). They also had shelves full of non-plant related stuff....it was like someone emptied their home of junk and found space here. Strange! Love this place!! We just moved to the area from Portland and our home was in desperate need of greenery. The owner, Bill, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. His plants are happy, healthy, and fairly priced. The selection can't be beat. Ended up getting enough plants for each room plus a few herbs and veggies at a fair price. I stopped by this nursery for the first time today during a visit back to LA. It has an eclectic, funky vibe with many beautiful, unique and healthy plants. I picked up two plants as a gift for a friend, as well as a blouse for myself in the second hand garments area. Rob helped me - he was incredibly kind, friendly and informative about the sun/shade needs of the plants I chose. He shared the store has been around over 20 years. What a gem! read more

To truly know Echo Garden, is to really understand its significance in Los Angeles. I've been going to this nursery for 10 years and it might not be as fancy as those new bougie plant boutiques that have been popping up all over town, but the family that owns this place really put their heart into it. My friend and I stopped by yesterday and chatted with Helen for a bit. We learned so much about her father who had passed a couple years ago. I remember him running this store with his wife. The cost back then was super affordable, but we learned that he wasn't trying to make a profit, it was just his love for gardening that kept this store going. We also learned that he had such a great impact in Los Angeles and was the founder of Koreatown. Definitely look up 'Hi Duk Lee' on google to read more about it! Though the selection is smaller than before, they still have a nice variety of everything! And the prices are so fair comparably to other nurseries. It's really rare to be able to hear stories like this first hand. This is still one of my favorite nurseries and I'm so happy that its still around. :) read more

The pet adoption and local vendor support is great. We stopped by to scope the scene on a Sunday in spring 23. My friend bought a pink panther/pink lady and when he took it home and started switching it to a new pot....he found it had just been freshly propagated and had no roots. Ask before you buy. We almost fostered a cat...and we still might. Just be mindful of highland park hipsters trying to flip stem on you. read more

Neighborhood gem! I've been wanting to come here for so long and was finally able to. Upon entering they have a hand washing and hand sanitizer station. During the time of physical distancing, there are signs instructing shoppers. I was able to find exactly was I was looking for! I just wish I had more time to browse the aisles. The staff was super friendly. When I asked if they had more of a certain kind of succulent, she offered to text me and let me know when they have more in. She even picked out herbs for me. The reviews originally enticed me to stop by, as I am not from the area. It was not what I expected. It was a huge space but mostly full of old, dusty pots and unkept plants. Not to mention the plants that they had worth buying were incredibly expensive!! Almost seems like they're taking advantage of the people in the area lol But what upset me most about my experience was the way the "owner", a taller slender Asian woman, reprimanded a worker there. She was scolding him in front of other customers and I thought that was incredibly demeaning and wrong! If she had something to say she could've waited until people were gone instead of embarrassing the poor guy! She yelled at him because the plants they had on display kept moving, he tried explaining to her that the customers were grabbing them to look at them. She was irrational and unreasonable and refused to even hear him out! He was the kindest person there! If I could apologize to him I would. She should not be in charge, she lacks basic customer service skills and lacks respect when dealing with her workers. We couldn't even get a hello from the owner, felt like we were inconveniencing her from being there. Overall bad experience, bad plants, and so pricey! Please save your money and purchase plants at another establishment! read more

Small mom and pop shop with extraordinary prices. Wish I had more time to spend here and look through everything! I just started plantifying my home so I started with some hardy indoor friendly plants like monsters deliciosa, snake plant (mother in law's tongue), and the spider plant. I even bought a small pepper plant and a big pot for the monsters. The most expensive thing was the pot, which was very well made, around $40 ish dollars. There were pots of all sizes and prices as well, I just opted for a more expensive one to match my decor. I bought these plants over a month ago and I've already been propagating them and giving baby spider plants away as a gift. They are all doing very well and I can't wait to go back to get some more plants!! They have so many succulents, trees, ground cover, indoor plants, etc. It's an amusement park for the plant obsessed. People are complaining about their customer service. I agree that they are a bit crotchety but it's def because of the language barrier and they get defensive because of countless spammers calling them. it also seems like they were victims of identity theft and they are much older def don't come here looking to get individualized one one one attention. I think it's more for people who already know what they want. read more

I needed a garden pot for a large indoor tree I purchased at another place. After a little bit of wandering, I found where all the large pots were kept. I browsed through the lot and thought the prices were okay. The terra cotta pots were $20 or less, but the large ceramic pots were $40+. I was looking for a better deal, bigger pots, and a larger selection, so I left empty handed. Just a note: I stopped by the bathroom to wash my hands and it smelled worse than a casino. Someone had been smoking in the tiny bathroom and it reeked. Gross! Street parking was sort of difficult to find, but I got lucky and only had to circle the block once. read more

I stupidly bought a $130 house plant/tree (plus a large $70 pot) here based on the assurances from one of the owners that it would survive in a low light environment (room with one window that doesn't get much sun). I normally wouldn't spend that much on a plant, but it was a beautiful tree, and the woman insisted it would survive perfectly. I followed her care instructions to the letter, and now, two months later, it's dropped dozens of leaves. The bottom half gets more bare by the day and it's clearly dying. When I went back to ask their advice, I was told firmly, "Not our problem!" and shooed away like I'd come to rob the place. Seriously, those were the woman's exact words. I was blown away. I moved it into a room with more light, and gave it a bit more water, as per the recommendations of a gardening community online. Nevertheless, the plant dropped no fewer than 8 more large, beautiful, full leaves over the weekend. I feel ripped off and supremely stupid for allowing myself to be conned into spending that much money on a plant when the salesperson clearly didn't give a damn whether it would survive once it left their property, and only cared about getting my money. I will not be shopping here ever again. read more

I just moved to the Glendale/Eagle Rock area and, in wanting to fill my empty room and backyard with greenery, stopped by Echo Garden. There was so much to choose from! Being that I'm new to plant ownership I felt a bit overwhelmed. But then I met Helen who was so helpful in helping me decide which plants were best for indoor gardening and instructions on how to take care of each one. She was so friendly, we chatted for a bit talking about the shop and other things - she even gifted me a couple "welcome to the neighborhood" plants! Nice nursery, not too large and with it's own parking lot which was nice. They had a good selection of herbs and succulents. The houseplant section wasn't too large, and I didn't see any 4 inch or smaller houseplants. They seemed to have only 6 inch and up for $22-30 each. All the plants looked very healthy! Also appreciated the hand sanitizer they had at the entrance And the customer service was good, we were greeted and asked if we needed any help. read more

Great place to grab some plants, It is a cool little neighborhood spot and the owner is very kind and helpful. They had good prices and a decent selection. If you are looking for a specialty plant you might need to inquire because I felt they had your general nursery items only (which isn't a knock on them) just a FYI. The bad reviews actually made me want to come here to see what all the fuss was about. What I found was a local business, that was overflowing with plants. It is a beautiful maze of succulents, cactus, fruit trees, etc. I really am not sure why anyone would come here, write a bad review and say they are better off at home depot. Maybe you should live in a different place because businesses like this are what makes Los Angeles so interesting and I would much rather support this man and his family, than a huge corporation that is homogenizing neighborhoods. Basically, I love it here. I walked out with some beautiful things and will be coming back as long as I live in this neighborhood. The plants are very well priced, and they have a great variety. I am more than happy to support this business even if the owner may lack in the obsessive customer service we are accustomed to. This is the spice of life. Get used to it. This nursery is literally why people have a problem with gentrification. Since Covid I've decided to make an effort to shop at small businesses to help out the community. Instead of going to Home Depot I decided to come here. I was ready to spend money here but was treated so poorly I left. Instead of helping me out, these two employees wanted to talk about their dating lives and going next door to get "Jamaica and flan". Mind you the cashier Had just had a full on conversation with a previous client who happens to be white. All I know is if you can't treat everyone in the community equally you won't be getting business from me. read more

This place just accused my friend of theft. They ran out to our car and opened our backseat (where are dog was) and accused us of stealing. We said no we have not taken anything and said they could search us. While one employee was taking a picture of our license plate we emptied out our bags to the other. The thing she thought we stole was a kombucha aide bottle. She did not apologize for accusing us of theft so we said we deserve an apology. Instead of apologIzing the woman taking pictures of our license plate told us to do them a favor and never come back. We were very excited about this place but we will never ever go back and there are several kinder garden shops in NELA to shop. read more
